Complaint: I deposit a check into my account for {$2800.00}. I had an available balance of {$4300.00}. I spent {$2500.00} out of the {$2800.00} check. I spent it at XXXX. Than I I had {$1900.00} of my own money in my checking account still saved from my school that I had received. I looked at my available balance and it was XXXX. I called my bank and I was told the check I had deposited was a fraudulent check and I should wait seven days for it to clear. Within the seven days the check still did n't clear and the negative balanced remained the same. I was told the check was returned and I had to pay a return fee plus the negative balance ; so I did. I want to know why did n't the bank teller at TCF let me deposit the check without telling me it was fake. She did tell me that she can not cash the check and give me money back but she can put it in my account for me. It never cleared or went through so I had to pay them back.

Complaint: Loan Officer directed Buyer and Selelr to schedule a closing for XXXX XXXX. Closing is scheduled. TCF bank has not answered phone calls or responded to emails regarding the status of borrower 's loan application for more than two weeks and closing is now 2 days away. Loan may possibly have been denied at underwriting level but since TCF is not corresponding / communication with buyer or buyer 's lawyer, we can not know for sure. Buyer is about to default on contract for purchase of property due to lender 's refusal to share this information

Complaint: My wife and I have our mortgage through TCF Bank. Five years ago, we were offered a low interest payment, which would end in a balloon payment of {$160000.00}, due XX/XX/XXXX. They were never clear about what would happen on the balloon date, as we would not have that much money. Finally, they offered a reasonable new loan, effective XX/XX/XXXX Now, just one day before XX/XX/XXXX, we were told that our loan is on hold. I relied on their promises in good faith ; now, I fear they are trying to somehow trick us into a foreclosure.

Complaint: TCF Processed debits before credits on my account and then charged an overdraft fee of {$37.00}. I specifically called TCF the very day the transactions were pending and they told me the credit from the deposit would process before the debit payments. In fact they did the opposite and the account was never overdrawn if credits were processed before debits.

Complaint: I Deposited XXXX checks at a TCF Bank that I received from a online casino. ( Winnings ) They said it would need to clear casino account before I could withdraw any funds, understandable I said. Total of XXXX chks {$6000.00} I checked with the bank XXXX XXXX later and checks were good, no problem.
Another time I took a larger check ( cashiers ) for {$12000.00} from a online casino. ( winnings ) they said I had to pay them {$120.00} to get verified & same wait to clear!! I questioned it but they insisted so I paid the fee, checked XXXX XXXX later the bank said the check was a fraud.
I never withdrew any funds nor did I receive the check back either, now I see they reported on my credit ( XXXX XXXX ) record as a bad check!!!!!

Complaint: There are several inquiries on my report that I did not authorize, XXXX of which looked as though when I was searching for cars. I did not authorize the dealerships to talk to other vendors/banks to get a lower rate yet that was done. This was done on XXXX occasions ( XXXX dealerships ) and multiple banks from each. This severely effected the inquiry portion of my credit report and my score in general. This needs to be corrected ASAP so my credit reflects correctly for now and future purchases/actual inquiries.

Complaint: I had a balance of XXXX in my TCF checking account ending in XXXX as of XXXX/XXXX/2015. I made XXXX transactions on XXXX. The last of these was dinner at XXXX XXXX XXXX for XXXX at XXXX in the evening. When I got home, I checked my balance online and saw that all the XXXX transactions were pending, but I had miscalculated and the last XXXX would overdraw the account by {$18.00}. Wanting to avoid an overdraft fee, I called the bank to attempt to transfer funds into the account, this service was not available, I attempted to find a way to transfer funds into the account online from another bank account, this was not available, finally I drove to the TCF ATM machine that stands in the place they used to have our branch, and found that the TCF ATM does not take deposits. The nearest branch is XXXX miles from my home, by that point it is XXXX at night. The next morning on XXXX I drove to the bank branch XXXX miles away, and gave the teller {$20.00} to deposit into the account and asked the teller to close the account. She stated that she was unable to close the account due to a negative balance. She explained that there were overdraft fees on the account for transactions that were pending. We both agreed that it did n't make sense, but she said she was unable to reverse the charges without manager approval and that the manager was not there and would not be returning that day. Today ( XXXX ) I received a letter in the mail from TCF Bank stating that my account now overdrawn in the amount of {$250.00} as of XXXX/XXXX/15. I have not used the account since and after speaking to the customer service department, I have learned from them that there have been no transactions since those XXXX on XXXX/XXXX/15. They explained to me that each XXXX of those transactions has incurred an overdraft fee. They explained that at XXXX each day, the deposits made before XXXX are added to the account, then any transactions that are posted ( collected by the merchant ) before XXXX are subtracted from the balance and then any transactions that are pending which would be overdrafts are assessed the fee. When I asked them to explain to me specifically how each of my transactions incurred a fee, the customer service team lead named XXXX said " Ok, let me give you an example. If on Monday morning you had {$100.00} in your account and you make XXXX transactions of {$50.00} each and they are still pending on tuesday morning you make a transaction of {$100.00} your account will have a balance of - {$100.00}. '' When I asked XXXX how many overdraft fees would be assessed on the account, he answered, " XXXX. '' This is not how I interpret the policy of the bank. Perhaps I am not interpreting it correctly, however, even if it is the policy does allow TCF to charge me XXXX overdraft fees between business days ( after XXXX and before XXXX the next day ) on an {$18.00} overdraft, that spells fraud. Because of a previous complaint I made to the bank, they had explained to me that when a transaction is marked " pending '' it means that there was a request for authorization to withdraw funds. The explained to me that the transaction is n't marked " posted '' until the merchant makes request for payment, which sometimes takes days. Additionally, TCF customer service was unable to describe for me how exactly each transaction incurred an overdraft fee. Furthermore, my call was disconnected twice conveniently when it seemed they could not explain something important, like how they get away with charging me a fee when they have not even received a demand for payment from the merchant and why two weeks ago they held my transactions in a pending state for days without charging a fee and only charged a fee after they conveniently posted several transactions on the same day as another transaction came through that would cause all transactions to overdraw, but not those same type transactions incur a fee within hours of authorization.

Complaint: In 2014 my purse was stolen from me with all of my banking information inside of it including my Pin number and account information to the TCF bank. As I went in to try and close the account and get a new credit card the bank had explained to me that a fake check was deposited into my account for {$2500.00}. I then filed a claim and a police report and also got my lawyer involved with this issue. I sent in multiple pieces of evidence showing that I was not the one who applied the fake check into my account, these are documents I still hold with me today. After sending in all of the information I had on the identity theft the bank came back and said that I am responsible for the incident and I have to pay the money back even though I sent in evidence showing it was not me. This has been going on for over a year now and is preventing me from making any further life changes with this on my credit report. I am not allowed to have a bank account and I am unable to find a place to live or buy a car due to this issue. I am not sure why during investigation they did not look at surveillance cameras or anything else to help solve my case but I can still prove today that I am not the one that deposited the fake check into my account.

Complaint: My bank, TCF, was robbed by a digital fraudster, and now the bank has taken it upon themselves to deprive me of my deposits until they see fit. I want my deposits back on demand, as per the function of a bank, and I would also like {$34.00} for each cent they have stolen from me, for each day that I have been deprived of my funds, as this is the fee structure in my agreement with the bank.
