Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Keep getting calls about my loan
Complaint: I cosigned on a student loan for my Brother and he failed to make a single payment, which was due on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, I began receiving automated phone calls from Sallie Mae, reference " A business issue '' and directing me to call a number they provided in the message. Due to ongoing fraudulent activity with such calls, I did not return the call, however, I did check the account and noticed the account was a few days past due. I contacted my Brother and a full payment was made. After making the payment, I received three more automated phone calls from this company, each one to one and a half hours apart from each other. This type of harassment is unacceptable and is taken as telecommunications harassment and in violation of FTC regulations. To receive constant phone calls such as these every hour to hour and a half if a violation of it 's own and taken as harassment, but to receive NUMEROUS phone calls AFTER the payment is made is ridiculous.

Can't repay my loan

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: I have several student loans with SallieMae currently totaling over {$1100.00}. When paired up with my federal loans I am paying over {$1300.00} out of my roughly {$2000.00} in monthly earnings. Long story short, after factoring in living expenses I am spending more than I make and have been compensating by using some money from savings to help with my loan payments over the past several months. This is money that I reserve for special circumstances ( medical, auto ) and even if I 'm lucky enough to not have an emergency need, the fact that I 'm constantly taking out more than I 'm putting in means at this rate I will go into default on my loans at some point. Knowing this I attempted to call SallieMae today to inquire about an interest rate reduction program that I 've heard they offer to clients who are having financial troubles. I was frustrated to find out that they only offer this plan to clients who have already gone into default on their payments ( which to my understanding would not be good for my credit score either ). So basically I need to keep doing what I 'm doing and until the money runs out and SallieMae actually helps. It is extremely upsetting that I can tell them ahead of time and prove with my finances that I 'm headed for trouble yet they wo n't throw me a lifeline until I 'm actually drowning.

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Keep getting calls about my loan
Complaint: I cosigned a loan for a family member back in XX/XX/2014, am XXXX and ca n't pay ( my income was noted on the original application. Said student dropped out of college, took the money and is now in hiding and is unreachable. Got original loan through XXXX ( predatory loan approval ) Now I am being harassed by auto-dialer through Sallie Mae, who the loan went to for the college attended. They call 3+ times per day, fill up my voicemail inbox with robot messages. I recently had to put an app on my cell phone so that when they call, it hangs up and does n't go to voicemail. I SORT OF got peace of mind back, but the app makes a call log so I still have proof they are still calling, even on Saturdays and Sundays! I feel they have no right to do this to me. They have also told me there are " other accounts '' open in my name ( which I found out they lied to me ) and also have been threatening to take things from me ( I have no car or house so not worried about that ), threatening me with jail time, and saying they will take me to court every 6 months to prove my XXXX/income exemptions. They are also letting me know that I will go into charge off at the end of the month. They REFUSE to let me off the phone until EVERY PENNY of exempt income is accounted for, even food stamps! I tried to let them know I was taken advantage of at every step, and that since they ca n't get a hold of the student, they come after me. Student is refusing to take responsibility and at least try to pay {$10.00} a month to show good faith, but is refusing any responsibility for the lies of being able to pay this all back and I have nothing to worry about. THE WORST HAPPENED that was promised not to happen.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/2017, I 've paid in full XXXX education loans. Details are below : 1. XXXX Amount of payment {$22000.00} 2. XXXX Amount of payment {$20000.00} Customer service representative, who provide me with a payoff amount, told me that both loans will be marked " Paid in full '' and I 'll receive electronic " PAID IN FULL NOTIFICATION '' once my payments clear. As of today, XX/XX/2017, loan ending XXXX marked " Paid in full '' and I did receive " Paid in Full Notification ''. However, loan ending XXXX still in a payment mode with a negative ( $ -XXXX ) balance. I 've called SallieMae several times trying to solve this problem. Per customer service explanation, the negative balance preventing the system from closing loan and generating " Paid in Full Notification '' and the negative balance was due to incorrect Paid off amount given to me. I spoke to SallieMae on XX/XX/XXXX and they promise to me fix this technical issue within 24 hours. Unfortunately, the issue still there and I 'm attaching supporting evidence for you to review. Thank you in advance. Regards, XXXX XXXX

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: I finished school around XXXX years ago. I had called sallie mae to pay my loan off. They gave me an incorrect balance. I have n't heard from them till 3 months ago and they would leave dozens of herassing phone calls. Apparently what happened is they did n't give me the correct balance to pay off. They said I still had a balance due. They state that I owe them the remaining balance with interest. They used the large sum of money I sent them earlier to make minimum payments over the XXXX years, and I am now past due. They never once sent me a statement in the XXXX years saying I owed any money. So in short, I thought I paid my loan off XXXX years ago, and today I am told I owe over {$10000.00} on a balance of {$7100.00} from XXXX years ago. They are refusing to work with me and when I ask them to send me paper info in the mail they say ok. In 3 months I have n't received any paperwork, other then the monthly statements they are now sending. I do n't feel it is right to make me pay interest on a loan I was told was paid off and never given a bill for.

Can't repay my loan

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: I have been trying to get my private student loan payments reduced for some time now, I am a single mother of XXXX and can not afford the now $ XXXX month payment. I have requested to the company many time to see if I could get some sort of income based repayment option, but have been repeatedly told there is nothing they can do for me but put my account in forbearance. I have submitted a complaint here before and the only outcome from the company was to call me and tell me again that there was nothing they could do for me because of me having my account in forbearance, my account is up to date and not showing any hardship. The employee stated to me that the company " might '' be able to help me if I let my account fall past due, because only then would it show a hardship and they " might '' be able to lower the payments a little bit. I stated to the employee that I would not default on a loan and the employee told me not to worry about it because they do n't report it to my credit report for 60 days and " hopefully '' they would have been able to do something before then. I again stated I would not default on my loan and the employee stated then there was really nothing else they could do for me. When I got upset that the employee was telling me to default on my loan the employee stated several times that as a company they could not suggest I default on my loan, when I stated that he had just told me it was the only way I " might '' be able to get the payments lowered he stated again as a company we can not suggest you default on a loan but yes the only way to possibly get a payment reduction is to have the account showing hardship like being past due. The employee than stated that when I accepted the loan I signed an agreement to pay back the loan and that I had to be held to that agreement. I stated to the employee that I fully understood what I agreed to and that I had every intention on paying the loan back all I am requesting is lower payments. The employee informed me that they did not have to offer income base repayment options because they are a private loan company. Nothing came of the conversation and I again had to put my loan in forbearance this month.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: Not only does this complaint involve dealing with my lender, it also involves the repaying of my loan. In XX/XX/XXXX I called to see if I could get my payments reduced because I would not be able to make XX/XX/XXXX payment. I was told my loan payment must be past due before anything could be done, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. So I waited to call again after my XX/XX/XXXX was past due to see what could be done, after having to talk to XXXX different people and such a huge hassle I was told they could do nothing and I was not qualified for help, and at this point it was mid-late XX/XX/XXXX. I ask if there was anything they could do to get help and I was told that I needed to wait another 30 days to see if other options opened up after I missed another payment, which again I think that is absolutely ridiculous. I was also told that my account would not be marked late on my credit reports until 60 days past due and as long as I got into a program before then I would avoid any negative marks on my credit report. So I again called in mid XX/XX/XXXX about 10 times over two weeks and had to wait 45 to over an hour on hold, and never ended up talking to any one because of the long wait time. One of the times someone answered, and all I heard was back ground noise then I was hung up on, which is one of the most unprofessional things I have ever experienced with Sallie Mae. I finally got a hold of someone the end of XX/XX/XXXX and was still not 60 days past due yet because the lady told me I was XXXX days late, and was finally qualified for lower payments and lower interest. However, I just saw today that my credit reports have been file with negative reports of XXXX days late, so I was blatantly lied to about the reporting, and this could all have been avoided if they would have helped me In XX/XX/XXXX or XX/XX/XXXX

Getting a loan

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Can't qualify for a loan
Complaint: Today, I applied as a co-signer for my daughters Sallie Mae Student Loan. I am XXXX and there fore my source of income comes from XXXX. The application was denied based on fraud. They made false claims against me in regards to my credit worthiness. I was also told by a supervisor that they do not base approval on the fico score. I was told credit scores have nothing to do with their decision making. But, in the denial they told me my credit score is adverse. I am accused of having delinquent accounts. And I am also told too few accounts get paid as agreed. These are lies. I feel like they just did not like the fact that my source of income comes from XXXX. Why would they have to lie about my credit report? The only reason would be if they had another reason as to why they wanted to deny me. And they could not find anything negative enough on my report to HONESTLY deny the loan. So, they MADE UP LIES. I bet there are many borrowers that receive employment income with a whole lot worse credit then myself that they have approved for loans. My daughter is devastated. She needed the loan to complete her schooling. I was also told that they only go by credit worthiness of showing ability to pay. I do n't have negative collections showing up on my report. How many other loans get approved for those who income is from XXXX? Probably none. After what they did to me today. I would not doubt that at all. Can anything be done about it?
