Complaint: In my role as the XXXX XXXX XXXX for the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( " XXXX '' ), I oversee the bequest administration process. I have a full time paralegal who works on gifts we received as part of someone's planned giving at the time of death. Often times, the XXXX is listed as a beneficiary designee for an individual 's IRA. When that happens, every single financial institution requires that the XXXX XXXX XXXX open up an account in order to receive the funds that have been designated to come to the XXXX. Whether or not this step is necessary is debatable, but that is not the subject of my complaint. In opening up the account, most financial institutions ask for information about the representative opening up the account. I am authorized to act on behalf of the XXXX so it is my signature every time. We process dozens of beneficiary designations each year. In many cases, I am asked for my personal Social Security number to open the account. As you may imagine, in this era of frequent breaches I am uncomfortable providing my personal Social Security number on a regular basis simply to do my job. It is not required under the law. There are a number of articles on this topic I am linking one : XXXX XXXX XXXX On most occasions, we are able to successfully persuade financial institutions that they do not legally need my individual social security number in order to set up an account for my organization, which only wants to receive the money it was bequeathed. However, after several conversations with XXXX XXXX XXXX, I was essentially given the choice of disclaiming the gift for my employer or providing my individual Social Security number. I am providing that number very reluctantly would like the CFPB to stop financial institutions like Huntington from this unnecessary and intrusive of my privacy.
The people at Huntington I dealt with were XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX and a lawyer named XXXX.

Complaint: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Complaint XX/XX/XXXX What is this complaint about?
The predatory nature of a promissory note signed in XX/XX/XXXX. My Parents signed the note for a {$12000.00} line of credit. The amount of credit was ( and still is ) at {$110.00}, at 2.74 % plus Prime, interest ONLY, paid monthly with a balloon payment due in XX/XX/XXXX. Interest rates are increasing every day. Huntington has made well over {$32000.00}, in six and one-half years, ( if not much more ), the with a current balance at {$11000.00}. My Parents immediately drew on most of the credit line, making the monthly payments large from the start. When the ten-year balloon payment is due, Huntington will have profited approximately {$50000.00} with no equity having been accrued. Ive been living in their house, and making the payments, and trying to rectify this misdeed since my Parents died late in XX/XX/XXXX.
Heres what my attorney stated in writing : This mortgage deal may well be in violation of the Home Ownership and Equity Protection. The fact that the loan was interest payments only was highly suspicious. The Act provides some civil rights of action that you might pursue as trustee. You could also make complaint to the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau which has authority to investigate this bank. That step would force the bank to deal with you.
What type of problem are you having?
The Title to the house and lots were then and still are in my deceased mothers Trust. It is the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX ), and I am the sole Trustee. The bank wont recognize my authority and will not lend any of the remaining credit, refinance, nor negotiate with me on any terms.
What happened?
In XX/XX/XXXX, my Parents consulted with XXXX XXXX, Huntington Bank Branch Manager of the XXXX, Michigan. They were looking for an instrument in the {$100000.00} to {$120000.00} range and wanted to use their home as collateral. The house and its two lots were valued at {$100000.00} by Huntingtons own appraiser. I use quotation marks around their because my Parents did not technically own that property or any other real property adjacent. The title to house and its lots, including adjacent lots, were / are held by the XXXX XXXX.
Let it be known that : 1 ) My mother and father had no income except Social Security, barely enough to pay taxes, take care of my fathers failing health and pay utilities. Their only asset was the house and lots, which were not really assets since the bank had encumbered them.
2 ) Amongst the XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX with XXXX XXXX, my father also suffered from XXXX XXXX XXXX and had to read through front focusing XXXX with his XXXX XXXX to the side, not to the front. Why would a bank provide an interest only loan to someone with no income and no chance of living to the term of the contract, confirmed by his death XX/XX/XXXX. ( My mother passed XX/XX/XXXX. ) 3 ) The Promissory Note and Credit Line Note were printed in 4-point font. My father could not read that size of font, let alone eight pages. The books he read were printed in much larger font. He could not read a newspaper. Even if Ms. XXXX offered to read parts or all the documents, it would be difficult or impossible to comprehend all the elements collectively and their relationship when read to him, and not read by himself.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Complaint ( continued ) 4 ) During the signing ceremonies, my father offered what is called Exhibit A, a document used for a previous mortgage on the same property. Exhibit A delineated the real property ( previously 22 lots ) and their house. It was offered only for reference only to Huntington, but by XX/XX/XXXX, many material changes had occurred, and Exhibit A did not reflect the current property assets of my Parents. My father naturally expected Huntington to perform a Title Search to sort out the changes, as any reasonable person would expect. Since Huntington defined the genre of the loan as a Home Equity loan, they subsequently stated, that a Title Search was not needed or required. The problem was that the XXXX XXXX, ostensibly my father and mother, did not own sixteen of the twenty-two lots encumbered. My Parents never noticed the discrepancy, further supporting the assertion that they did not read the important elements of the transaction. This faux pas was rectified in XX/XX/XXXX. But how ethical was the rapid, probably illegal, grab for approximately {$300000.00} of property as collateral on a {$120000.00} credit line? My Parents were sure to default in ten years or sooner, as fate has proven.
What credible bank would do this in this moneylending climate? No Income/ with little or no, unverified assets. Worse than an out of favor, predatory, illegal NINA loan.
What company is this complaint about?
Huntington Bank originated the loan at their XXXX, Michigan office.
Who are the people involved?
XXXX XXXX, Huntington Bank Branch Manager of the XXXX, Michigan office was the original advisor/loan originator that steered my Parents, and eventually me, into this untenable financial position.
Also, XXXX XXXX, Huntington Bank Branch Manager of the XXXX, Michigan ( XXXX XXXX Branch ) assisted with some of the informational transfers after my Parents deaths in order to update some documents.
Both were very cordial but insisted there was nothing that they can do unless the deed was in my name for six months. There is so much compartmentalization at Huntington, that trying get information, let alone a fair is frustrating and, seeming impossible.

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I helped my mother open an Huntington 5 Interest Checking Account with Huntington National Bank. On XX/XX/XXXX my mother made a mobile deposit of {$1000.00} from her personal XXXX XXXX Account. Then on XX/XX/XXXX my mother did another mobile deposit of {$1900.00} from her business checking account. Again on XX/XX/XXXX she did 2 mobile deposits of {$1500.00} and {$500.00} for her business checking account. Originally she wanted to make one mobile deposit of {$3900.00} to make a total deposit of {$5000.00} in order to avoid a monthly fee. However, Huntington National Bank only allows mobile deposits of {$2000.00} per day.
She is the owner of the company and I am her son, who is the also the bookkeeper as well as her power of attorney, and wrote her 3 checks to be deposited.
A letter was received from The Huntington National Bank dated XX/XX/XXXX stating that the {$1900.00} will be available on XX/XX/XXXX. The next 2 letters received from The Huntington National Bank were dated XX/XX/XXXX stating {$1500.00} and {$500.00} would be available on XX/XX/XXXX.
On XX/XX/XXXX when she came back from XXXX, she tried to access her account, but the account could not be accessed. On XX/XX/XXXX my mother and I contacted customer service to find out what was going on with the account and why we couldn't access the account. I spoke to the customer service representative, XXXX, and he told me the bank where the checks originated put them on hold because they believed the checks were fraudulent. I tried to explain to XXXX that we have copies of the checks on XXXX XXXX online showing they have already cleared her bank, but he still insisted it was a problem with XXXX XXXX and not Huntington Bank. He told me that my mothers account was closed and the funds were returned to XXXX XXXX which is not true. I asked him where the first deposit of {$1000.00} from XXXX XXXX was, and he would not give me any answer. He contradicted himself to much. I hung up the phone with him and called XXXX XXXX Branch and spoke to the Branch manager who informed me that all checks had cleared and they had no requests or had even spoken to anyone from Huntington Bank. I called again to Huntington Bank and spoke to another representative who informed me that I should go to the branch, but I told her the closest Huntington branch was 8 hours away. She told me it was my responsibility to prove to Huntington Bank that these checks were not fraudulent. I become over frustrated after she told me. I tried to explain to her that 3 checks came from her business XXXX XXXX Account which belongs to my Mother and they could check to see who was the owner of the business. Besides this, the signature on the front is the same as the signature on the back of the checks. I also told her that I had a copy of the checks from XXXX XXXX showing they had cleared the bank. I told her what more could they want besides the copies of the check from XXXX XXXX showing they cleared. I told her why don't you call XXXX XXXX and talk to manager of the branch to clear up this matter and she said no. They sent a request and have not received an answer yet. At this point I have become overly frustrated. At this point is has been 28 days and my mother is not able to access her money.
In XXXX, Congress passed the Check Clearing for the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( Check 21 ) to help speed up the process and allow banks to transfer checks electronically. By law, a bank can hold a check for a maximum of 9 business days before you can withdraw the money.
I want to know where my mothers money is???
This is as simple as making a phone call to XXXX XXXX where the checks originated. They will find that my mother has a business account there and that they know her and me and she has had that business account since XXXX.

Complaint: I received a call from XXXX XXXX XXXX who left voicemails for both my wife and myself. I called them back.
They stated they sent me letters ( which I never received ) and were pursuing legal action on behalf of Huntington National Bank regarding a bank account I had in XX/XX/2011.
I was advised I was being served notice. They threatened me with judgments but never disclosed themselves as a debt collector.
To date, I have received no notice of this debt.
When I requested a statement of all of the charges on my account to show how I could be overdrawn {$500.00}, they refused. I was never that far negative on the account and they are refusing to provide the account history.
They told me I have no right to see it. When I advised them that I just wanted to see what I was being charged for on my old account statements since they are pursuing legal action, the woman was very rude to me and hung up.
In XX/XX/2011, I was recovering from a bankruptcy. I had lost my job. I was suddenly divorced and owed child support. I have spent the last 7 years of my life recovering from the hardships I went through in XX/XX/2011.
I finally caught my delinquent child support up last year. Ive paid several other creditors who I defaulted with.
I would like to work with the bank to resolve the matter but I want to know what they are charging me for before I arrange any payments.
I dont understand why she would tell me I have no right to know that information when she was threatening me with judgements.

Transaction was not authorized
Complaint: After having a problem with a Payday Lending company taking too much or charging too much interest I sat with the bank and explained the situation and asked if I could closed the existing account and open a new account to resolve this matter. I was I could, I opened the account. They told me that the old account closed only to later find the account was charged a service which I brought to a XXXX balance this past Friday and i was asked if I wanted to keep that XXXX. I said yes because it should be closed. I don't need two accounts. The next day I realized that they took $ XXXX+ instead of just {$4.00} for maintenance fees. This emptied my new account. I first call customer services to explain that it seems to be a account error. I was told to go back to the bank. I spoke to the person who I originally spoke to changed accounts. He directed me to the teller who served me that Friday who happened to not be working Saturday. I just left the bank today and now they want to direct me to the branch manager but told me they had a right to go in the new account without my authorization. How do they have that right to basically dip into any account when most of the time most banks make it necessary for you to transfer monies from a checking to a saving unless you signed prior authorization.

Application denied
Complaint: applied for a credit card with Huntington Bank on XX/XX/XXXX at the XXXX branch, XXXX, Michigan. I had to release my XXXX freeze for 1 day. It was in the afternoon on a friday ~ XXXX. One week later I get a letter telling me that I was denied.
Request id on the letter said. XXXX - if one exist I don't know card # Reasons for denial were : * Huntington has already issued the maximum amount of allowable unsecured credit card dept to this individual * Insufficient income for amount of debt.
I called Huntington and told them my score/income was and what the letter said. They checked to see if I had a credit card and told me I didn't but they see no reason why I wasn't given a card. I only have student loans and I paid off car note and old credit cards..
I never had a credit card with huntington bank Later I went into the branch and they called for me and they told the manger I was denied. I was told that there was no card in my name - however it doesn't explain the letter - I have nothing but student loans - unless the reports I have from XXXX and XXXX are copy cats and forged.
End 1st Some how things may be getting covered up - I tried to tell people in XX/XX/XXXX that XXXX was hacked and there has always been a problem with XXXX ... likely infiltrated for a long time now ... I have had some crazy dealings with XXXX and many ... Whoever this is is scamming and stealing my old credit reports and old loan documents and letters, tearing things out of note books and calendars I think it was report numbers * high chance that they have COPIED the CREDIT BUREaus data base and controlling it.. something is happening that is not right. Because I dont have a lot of money some people dont look at this as being something someone would take the time to do.. It is a new day and new ways of doing crime. People need to wake up because something is seriously wrong and there has been so much I cant tell it all I am dealing with serious high level hacking and I am concerned that my credit report is being modified with XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. I got my report around XX/XX/XXXX ( mailed ) when I requested it over the phone for XXXX when I was trying to get a house phone from XXXX XXXX XXXX or XXXX. - I didn't get it because XXXX said they were told when I call back ( after my freeze was released ) to have her call this number? the guy on the phone said it was customer service and he would transfered me ... then he came back and said no one answered. I believe it was a scam to see when my freeze was lifted .... Point 1 I got the first report from XXXX then later I received another report. I started the process of applying with Annual credit report but didn't send any identifying information because - I believed it would be intercepted - like it was last year - this hacking group is targeting the mail for credit bureaus. Just recently I got a XXXX report and I never sent in any identifying information.. My id was stolen XX/XX/XXXX so I flagged my account ... somehow they are able to get my report. I believe that a huntington credit card is out there in my name but everything that is being done is made to look like me ... I've seen - forged documents - that's another situation. Entry in my home and stealing of documents and hacking and messing up cell phones blocking mobile data reprogramming phone so they can sync and use it and block me from using it.. this all has been happening for last 3 years+ without police help.. Someone tried to get in just Wednesday XX/XX/XXXX XXXX night and I didnt make it to wrk waiting on cops ( saw door damage by chain area- I caulk and taped it to make sure - what has been still happening while sleep.stealing docs. )

Complaint: On Sunday XX/XX/XXXX, my father gave me a {$15000.00} check from his XXXX checking account as a loan to pay off my credit card and loan debt. I deposited the check same day via ATM into my Huntington checking account. On Tues. XX/XX/XXXX, the funds were briefly made available and I paid off {$10000.00} in total. Weds. XX/XX/XXXX I attempted to make an {$11.00} purchase at a XXXX store in XXXX Ohio and it was declined. I immediately called the bank and was told there would be a hold on the check until today 's date Fri. XX/XX/XXXX. My {$1100.00} payroll check was direct deposited into my account this morning so I assumed I would have money in addition the the {$15000.00} check from my father that had cleared. I called Huntington and was informed that they put a hold on my account so I have NO access to ANY of my funds for up to 30 days. I have offered my father 's contact info several times if they have questions about the legitimacy of the check and obviously my payroll money should be available aside from the check. I have no access to other funds and have no way to pay my rent, buy food for my child or myself or put gas in my vehicle despite doing nothing wrong and offering solutions to validate that the funds were legitimate.

Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed
Complaint: On XX/XX/18, I opened a Huntington 5 Interest checking account with Huntington Bank via the following link : https : //www.huntington.com/aXXXX.
The bank advertised a {$300.00} bonus on this site by meeting these conditions : " Start by opening a new Huntington 5 Checking checking account by XX/XX/2018, then make deposits of at least {$2000.00} into your checking account within 60 days of account opening. Your bonus will be deposited into your new checking account within 14 days of meeting the above requirements. '' During account opening, I was asked for a promo code, but the website did not list one or state that such a code was needed for this bonus ( see attached screenshot of webpage ). Thus I did not enter a promo code.
I was concerned that this bonus may not be attached to my account, so I used the online chat feature on XX/XX/18 to speak to a representative. Representative XXXX told me, " Just by opening the correct account through that promo page should automatically make the account eligible for the bonus. '' ( See attached for complete conversation. ) I then deposited {$2000.00} into the account on XX/XX/18.
On XX/XX/18, I still had not received the stated bonus, so I again chatted with a representative, XXXX. She told me that a promotion code was required, contrary to what XXXX told me previously. She indicated the following, " We did not know that a flyer was needed until the end of XXXX. It was not something we were told. The site was created just for the flyer and was not made to go viral for the promotion. I will submit a complaint with the chat that has it being stated that as long as it was opened the code would be applied. '' Thus, even the bank representatives did not know that a promo code was needed for this offer, so how was I to know?
XXXX submitted the complaint for me as referenced above.
On XX/XX/18, I received a phone call from XXXX, who informed me that the bank reviewed my complaint but refused to honor the promotion because I did not enter a code. I reiterated the fact that no code was stated as required on their own offer page, but she again refused to honor the terms of this bonus.

Problem using a debit or ATM card
Complaint: On XX/XX/2018 I received an email from Huntington Bank stating that I needed to verify my recent transactions. I have two XXXX. My book-bag was left in my locker at XXXX, which consisted of my phone case. I was away at the XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) and not even in Michigan nor XXXX. I replied NO to a text message so that my card could be locked and I called in the next day. I disputed around {$7000.00} in unauthorized charges to be told that the Merchants said my transactions were authorized. Some transactions were out of State ( not country ) and some were in state. Some transactions were through the ATM. I did not authorize any of these transactions nor have my card or ssn. I was sent out a new card, which now I carry in my sock so I know for sure no one will have access to it. Under Regulation E if this problem is not corrected within 15 days I will be filing a lawsuit. This is unlawful and no way to treat a direct deposit customer that has never had any issues with overdrafts and always a positive balance.
