Reporting company used your report improperly
Complaint: Equifax Inc. said its systems were struck by a cyberattack that may have affected about 143 million U.S. customers of the credit reporting agency, using their online too I was listed as one of those whose data was compromised. Intruders accessed names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and drivers license numbers, and credit card numbers for about 209,000 consumers were also accessed. Criminals took advantage of a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files from mid-XX/XX/XXXXthrough XX/XX/XXXX of this year. The intruders also accessed dispute documents with personal identifying information for about 182,000 consumers.
Equifax Inc. did not inform those affected in a clear and timely manner, nor have they provided clarity or made effort to rectify their problem. They are placing the onus on those affected to right their wrong.

Complaint: Equifax has through gross negligence, leaked millions of social security numbers, dates of birth, and driver 's license numbers. These are things that can not be changed, so anybody who has access to this info can potentially steal my identity at any point in time. Beyond this, Equifax refuses to properly inform people who have been affected. Even their online system has been shown to randomly tells you you are affected or not. Now, to protect your credit, every person has to pay for a credit freeze and unfreeze and refreeze their credit every time they need to open a new account. With fees up to {$10.00}, a family of four stands to pay {$120.00} to freeze our credit and then each of us will need to pay {$60.00} to unfreeze and refreeze each time up apply for credit.
The following should be done : 1. Mandate Equifax to inform every affected customer by postal mail.
2. Make credit freezing and unfreezing free at all 3 bureaus 3. Based on the gross incompetence they have displayed, Equifax should not be allowed to maintain consumer credit information anymore. The other two agencies must have high security requirements mandated on them including periodic penetration testing and ethical hacking.

Complaint: Response below : Equifax did not securely store vital financial data they collected on me and millions of other people. Once the data was stolen they did not notify me directly, and had no appropriate solutions. Vital current information, like bank account numbers, addresses and drivers license number were left exposed, as was permanent information, like my social security number. This means I am for ever at risk of identity theft and tax fraud. The only solutions offered by Equifax have been temporary, limited to the next couple of months. Additionally, they have used this as an opportunity to promote other services, trying to make money from their own failure.
The few options I have as a consumer ( checking my credit score, credit freezes and fraud alerts ) have been nearly impossible with all three major credit companies ( Equifax, XXXX XXXX XXXX ). With Equifax in particular it has been completely impossible, since they seem not to have the resources to deal with all the affected customers. This means I have to spend several hours trying to solve this problem. Additionally, over the course of the lifetime this hack will affect me, I will have to keep spending time and money to freeze and unfreeze my account, and to monitor my credit. This is entirely caused by a company I never chose to have business with in the first place.

Difficulty submitting a dispute or getting information about a dispute over the phone
Complaint: Following the Equifax breach, I have been attempting to freeze my credit with all three major agencies. However, Equifax will not allow me to submit a report on their website and their phone line is down, so the only way I will be able to contact them is through snail mail. Considering that the breach is their own fault, they should have a much easier system in place for the hundreds of millions of people whose identities have been jeopardized.
Additionally, I find it ridiculous that I will have to pay {$30.00} total to the three agencies in order to freeze my credit and will not receive a reimbursement unless I go through their snail mail processes. Do they expect all of the Americans affected by this to go through weeks of paperwork and waiting just to protect themselves? The CFPB should prevent these agencies from making any profit off of the freezes that millions are now being forced to perform due to the agencies ' own negligence.

Difficulty submitting a dispute or getting information about a dispute over the phone
Complaint: On Tuesday, XXXX/XXXX/XXXX at XXXX p.m. central standard time, I called Equifax at XXXX XXXX the number on their website XXXX to request a credit freeze. The lady that answered gave me another phone number to call ( XXXX ). She had said she could not help me, and that this new number was customer service dedicated to credit freezes. When I called this second number, it was nothing but a recording trying to sell services such as cable t.v., internet, etc.
At XXXX p.m. central standard time, I called the original number again ( XXXX ). I told the gentleman that answered the phone what had happened, and asked if he could help me. He proceeded to read directly from the web page about what my options were. I told him that I had already read and been through those options, and that now I wanted to freeze my account. He ignored me several times as I was telling him that I had already been through those options, and he kept on reading as if I was not saying anything. He ended the call with a scripted line saying, " ok, you do n't have any questions, thank you. ''

Complaint: I was part of the Equifax credit information hack. It is unacceptable that I have to PAY to freeze my credit when I did n't consent to my information being stored by Equifax, XXXX, or XXXX in the first place. Moreover, I can not even get the credit freeze to go through because it " can not be processed at this time. '' Congress should make credit freezes and unfreezes free federally. Credit reporting agencies already make money off of my information and I should not be required to pay them additional money to protect my information, especially when they are doing a horrendous job in the first place.
Thank you for taking time to read my complaint and for the work that you do.

Reporting company used your report improperly
Complaint: In the summer of XXXX, hackers accessed Equifax 's system and compromised the personal credit information of over 100 million users. Equifax, failed to provide adequate cyber security throughout their computer system despite knowing the inherent value of the consumer information they possess. As demonstrated by the severity of this security breach, Equifax was absurdly negligent in properly securing the personal information of millions of consumers, and can no longer be trusted to act in the best interest of the American public.
I am one of the victims of this breach. Equifax 's offer of one year of credit monitoring is a mere token of whats necessary to protect myslef. Equifaxs data breach is not something I can fix with a new password. For the rest of my life, I will need to watch my credit activity closely. I am XXXX, and I have family members currently in their XXXX. That means I will need to monitor my credit activity for the next 40 to 50 YEARS!
Ironically, Equifax is happy to charge me for additional protective services, something I would not require if they had done their job adequately in the beginning.
I demand that Equifax is stripped of their ability to provide credit reports in the future. Their negligence in this matter proves that they are simply unable to protect consumer data. Based on this breach, I do not believe any bank, other financial institution or business can safely rely on the reports that Equifax might produce in the future. Simply, Equifax can no longer be trusted.
I further demand that Equifax provide a lifetime of credit monitoring for me and any other consumer who is likewise affected by the negligence of Equifax. Life-long credit monitoring - in reality - is the LEAST that Equifax should offer affected consumers. They were negligent, and they do n't appear to care the slightest about the people whose lives ' they have disrupted. They simply care about their financial stability, and how they can minimize the effect this breach will have on their profits.

Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Complaint: On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX The State of South Carolina expunged a tax lien after I complained that I was in communication with the state to investigate the accuracy of the amount owed, this was because I had to dispute the same year ( XXXX ) tax return with the IRS. In summary, the amount was settled and they issue the expungement. They stated to me " All I have to do is send the letter to all three credit bureaus and they will remove the public tax lien off my credit report ''. I disputed the public record with all three bureaus, XXXX ( confirmation XXXX ) and XXXX ( confirmation XXXX ) deleted the tax lien public record with no issues, Equifax did not after three attempts to resolve, to include calling-in and speaking with a representative who stated that it should be removed. The third dispute was completed XXXX/XXXX/XXXX ( confirmation XXXX ) with a result of verified again. I 'm not sure what else to do other than file this complaint. Please assist me with this and I look forward to your response.
Thanks.

Didn't receive services that were advertised
Complaint: I am a victim of Equifax Data breach.
Equifax seems to discourage us getting their credit monitoring help to victims. They have made it hard to use the help.
I believe when you pay for the service they send you a welcome email but with free service to breach victims, they do not even send an email.

Complaint: In wake of the massive Equifax breach there needs to be an easy and free way in which a consumer can freeze ( and thaw ) their credit so that the perpetrators can not open new lines of credit in my name.
While I will continue to aggressively monitor my familys credit, it is disappointing that there is not a way to easily do this at the three main crediting agencies.
For Equifax, XXXX and XXXX to actually profit from a security breach that they caused is beyond mind numbing.
Hi Customer, We the credit bureaus collect ALL of your personal and financial information in one convenient database. Unfortunately, all of that data was stolen, but for $ X a month we will monitor and protect you from fraud.
No thank you.
