Complaint: Recently there was a massive data breach at Equifax. Said data breach has put at risk the financial security of hundreds of millions of Americans. Out society is such that our credit score deterined by this company will determine the trajectory of your life. In the recent events, the only option to truly protect your credit score is to enact a credit freeze at each credit agency. This will cost almost EVERY American 10 dollars per agency for a freeze and to remove a freeze. That is {$60.00} for each of the 143 million Americans for the mistake of a company performing a service that most of those Americans did not request. I know I do not want to pay the fee to freeze because why should I give money to the people whose fault this is. There should be no fee to freeze one 's credit, especially given the current circumstances.

Complaint: XXXX the credit reporting companies. Calling them " bureaus '' only elevates their status to an institution, which they are not and should never be. I tried freezing my credit with XXXX & Equifax, something I should n't have to worry about in the first place. Both online and automated phone systems are down, and XXXX has begun obfuscating their freeze function in order to hock their XXXX security product, taking advantage of consumers. Complaint: Equifax did not properly secure my protected personal information from intrusion, such as through appropriate patching, 2-factor authentication at the point of service, segmentation of data, etc. As such, it appears my full name, Social Security numbers, birth date, addresses, and possibly driver license number is cross-matched to each other and in the hands of criminals who can use this data to breach any number of accounts in perpetuity such as my banking and financial data, medical data, legal complaints, political data, and any other number of sensitive accounts. Further, I am unable to secure these accounts because they ask for the very personal information that is breached in order to verify my identity and approve a change. Equifax is currently offering a limited credit monitoring service, which does n't even activate immediately. Even this had to be sought out by those who see the news reports, follow the news links to the Equifax page, which in turn link to a shady third-party website asking for 2/3 of one 's social security number plus last name and a waiver of all class action recourse in order to discover if one is among the breached accounts, only changed to waive class action recourse from the third party site if it too is breached with the sensitive data it is querying once the news of this spread. This is insufficient to the need created by their negligent protection of my information, which I did not give them myself, but which they curated as their business from other businesses.

Complaint: Credit ( security ) freeze + thaw should be free, mandated by law for every US citizen. The recent Equifax breach is a perfect example of why credit freezing and thawing should be free, it 's appalling that credit bureaus can charge for such services when their own incompetency is what caused these actions to be required for consumer protection. Luckily I live in NC where I do receive a free freeze, but everyone in the country should have the right to unlimited free freeze/thaws.

Complaint: My complaint is about Equifax. 1 ) Equifax is making a lot of money with my information, their executives make millions but they could not even do what they are supposed to do, which is to keep my information safe. I am complaining that the company did not use appropriate security. My guess is that they did not want to spend the money to get good protection. 2 ) Now that my and millions of other 's data has been compromised they did not contact affected people right away but waited for weeks. When I tried to place a fraud alert the website was down. When trying to log in to XXXX, which I subscribe to, I get an empty page. When calling them I am on the phone so long that the battery runs empty and I have to switch to another phone. That is not acceptable. If the company can not do the job it is supposed to do it should be shut down.

Complaint: Due to gross negligence of companies like Equifax handling our personal information I find it extremely unethical for credit monitoring companies like Equifax and XXXX to be able to not handle our private information properly, have several hundred millions of US citizens social security and finance information leaked, and then have the gall to expect us to pay them {$5.00} to freeze and unfreeze our credit lines. So we 're basically obligated to go pay these companies money because they leaked our information and we do n't want to be in financial ruin for years because of it. So basically the way this is set up is that we are forced to pay them and if we do n't then our information will more than likely be used by criminals because they are never held accountable. This is legal, and apparently encourageable, extortion. Plain and simple. Companies need to be held accountable for their extreme lack of security with our information or make it free to freeze or unfreeze our credit lines. Does the mob run our finances now because I definitely feel like I 'm obligated to pay protection money in order for my life to be lived normally.

Equifax reported a tax lien on my credit report that has been vacated by the State of MD Comptroller and the Circuit Court of XXXX XXXX XXXX. I provided a copy and Order to Equifax and they have not complied with the order and they have n't removed the Tax Lien, although I provided them the supporting document. After receiving supporting documents XXXX and XXXX has removed the Tax lien from my credit reports as appropriate. I am asking that Equifax remove the Tax Lien from my credit report immediately as has been ordered State of MD Comptroller and the Circuit Court of XXXX XXXX XXXX.
