Complaint: Equifax mishandled my information which has led to a breach that puts myself and millions of others at potential risk. I am extremely disappointed with how equifax has handled reporting this breach. Very little was done to notify the public for nearly a month after the breach was detected. I received no email, letter, or phone call and instead had to discover it via social media. Going forward equifax should be required to monitor every account and notify victims if any fraud occurs. Credit fraud protection should be mandatory for every account, not an option for us to have deal with. This should be rectified firstly by making credit freezing free and refunding everyone who paid for it following this data breach. Requiring a police report is absurd when they clearly know if you were affected.

Improper use of your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Reporting company used your report improperly
Complaint: Equifax did not properly secure my protected personal information from intrusion through any appropriate method, such as patching, 2-factor authentication at the point of service, segmentation of data, etc. As such, it appears my full name, Social Security numbers, birth date, addresses, and possibly driver 's license number are cross-matched to each other and in the hands of criminals who can use this data to breach any number of accounts in perpetuity such as my banking and financial data, medical data ( including immunization records ), legal complaints, political data, and any other number of sensitive accounts. Further, I am unable to secure these accounts because they ask for the very personal information that is breached in order to verify my identity and approve a change. Equifax is currently offering a limited credit monitoring service, which is n't available as a default. It requires 2/3 one 's SSN plus last name and a waiver of class-action recourse in order to DETERMINE is one is affected by the breach. This is insufficient to the need created by their negligent protection of my information, which I did not give them myself, but which they curated as their business from other businesses.

Complaint: Equifax did not protect my personal information ( name, addresses, financial account information, social security number, date of birth ). I never authorized Equifax to collect or store any of my information in the first place. However, once they collected my information, they did not take appropriate measures to prevent others from accessing it.

Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Complaint: Like 143 million other Americans, I was the victim of a devastating leak of personal information that will leave me susceptible to identity theft for the rest of my life. In order to try to minimize the fallout of this egregious breach of consumer trust, it was a necessity that I place a credit freeze on all my credit files. And yet, even though the events forced me to place this freeze were beyond my control and no fault of my own, I was forced to pay {$10.00} to each of these bureaus to place the freeze, and will be forced to pay again should I need to thaw my credit files. This simply is n't right. Credit freezes and thaws should be free. Freezing your credit is a protective measure, and consumers should n't have to pay to protect themselves, especially when it 's to protect themselves from the incompetence of these credit bureaus that are allowed to accumulate so much personal information, without consent, on so many Americans.

Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Complaint: Credit freezes and thawing should be free. The entire SSN system is outdated and vulnerable. In light of recent events ( Equifax breach ) the only way I can protect myself is by freezing my credit. Naturally I can not keep it this way forever and will need to unfreeze for certain purposes, at which I will be charged for the thaw. I should not be paying to protect myself because of the mistake of a large corporation.

Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Complaint: The only way to protect myself after the Equifax breach is to place a credit freeze. It is absurd that the XXXX major credit reporting agencies are allowed to charge money to initiate these freezes. There is no way to opt out of their data collection, they obviously can not keep that data secure, and they want me to pay my hard earned paycheck to each time I need to freeze ( and each time to unfreeze ) my information.

Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Complaint: I was part of the Equifax credit information hack. I find it unacceptable that I have to PAY to freeze my credit when I did n't consent to my information being stored by Equifax, XXXX, or XXXX in the first place. Congress should make credit freezes and unfreezes free federally. Credit reporting agencies already make money off of my information and I should not be required to pay them additional money to protect my information, especially when they are doing a POOR job in the first place. Thank you for taking time to read my complaint.

Complaint: Prior to Equifax 's announcement, XXXX had a link to freeze their credit easily. After X/XX/2017, they change the link and now are trying to hide the link behind their " monitoring system. '' This is disgusting that they are taking advantage of people trying to freeze their credit. This is a service that should be provided for free, after all THEY are the one who messed up.

Complaint: I was part of the Equifax credit information hack. Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Complaint: I May or may not be part of the Equifax credit information hack. I can not be certain since its been shown reliably that the Equifax verification tool is giving out bogus information. And therefore now have to take proactive steps to ensure i 'm safe. I find it unacceptable that I have to PAY to freeze my credit when I did n't consent to my information being stored by Equifax, XXXX, or XXXX in the first place. Congress should make credit freezes and unfreezes free federally. Credit reporting agencies already make money off of my information, without my consent and I should not be required to pay them additional money to protect my information, Especially when companies like XXXX XXXX have in the last week redesigned their website to promote a " credit monitoring '' Service instead of linking directly to a credit freeze application. Thees " bureaus '' are doing a POOR job of protecting my information, then want me to pay them to protect it, FROM THEM The sheer hubris of this in light of the failures by negligence of their actions in the first place is astounding.. Thank you for taking time to read my complaint.

Complaint: My PII was stolen and lost due to monumental incompetence and negligence by Equifax. Executives sold their stocks before letting us know, how is that not insider trading? They 're also charging people to take measures to fix THEIR mistake, and now XXXX is intentionally complicating the freezing process by putting their worthless ID protection in our face and deterring people from freezing. No corporate entity should be allowed to have this much control over this much sensitive information, and all of these execs that knew this was coming need to be locked up.
