Complaint: Equifax Inc. said its systems were struck by a cyberattack that may have affected about 143 million U.S. customers of the credit reporting agency. Based on their instructions I was able to confirm that my information, to include personal identifiable information, was included in the breach. My identity is no longer reasonably considered to be " secure ''. Equifax was unable to safeguard the information.
I understand that Equifax is a victim here as well, however, my entire identity is open to theft.

Complaint: Equifax mishandled my information which has led to a breach that puts myself and millions of others at potential risk. I am extremely disappointed with how equifax has handled reporting this breach. Very little was done to notify the public for nearly a month after the breach was detected. I received no email, letter, or phone call and instead had to discover it via social media.
Going forward equifax should be required to monitor every account and notify victims if any fraud occurs. Credit fraud protection should be mandatory for every account, not an option for us to have deal with.
This should be rectified firstly by making credit freezing free and refunding everyone who paid for it following this data breach. Requiring a police report is absurd when they clearly know if you were affected

Complaint: Equifax mishandled my personal information including Name, Social Security #, Address, Birthdate, etc. resulting in a data breach in XXXX XXXX t
hat they confirmed I was affected by per their " Potential Impact '' site www.equifaxsecurity2017.com. They have put myself and millions of others at risk of identity theft/fraud due to negligent security protocols in handling consumer information. Also consumers were not informed in a timely matter as the company kept news of this breach secret for weeks! Further putting the consumer at risk while trying to save their own hide. They are simultaneously defrauding these injured parties with hidden terms of service that waive their right to sue the company in what is clearly a situation of criminal negligence/fraudulent behavior as indicated by the three Equifax executives that dumped stock immediately prior to the data breach announcement.

While they are also a victim as well, they have information on about XXXX XXXX Americans and there is no way to opt-out of their information gathering. They should have held that information in the strictest of confidence.

Complaint: Equifax had a security data breach on XXXX XXXX, 2017. Due to this incident my personal information was impacted by this breach. I am submitting a formal complaint. I believe that this security breach has highly impacted my personal information.
After going to the site XXXX it appeared that I was impacted with this security breach. I did not enroll into any thing because I do not want to waive my right to sue.
I was notified via email to prove that I was impacted by this security breach, also I have filed a police report. I am putting in a complaint against Equifax for their negligence of handling my personal information.
I was previously a victim of identity theft in the past and I am worried about my personal information and security.

Complaint: Equifax Credit Reporting agency failed to protect and keep secure my personal information allowing it to fall into the hands of unknown individuals. In addition Equifax failed to notify and report the breach in a timely manner to try and mitigate damage, instead allowing their stock holders to liquidate assets before the company took a hit.
Rather than fixing and owning up to the mistake, Equifax has created a website that is randomly generating yes no answers on whether the breach has affected you, and is offering monitoring service to keep your identity safe from Equifax itself.

Complaint: Equifax has mishandled my information, did n't notify me ( I found out via social media and had to go to their poorly made response site to check for myself ), and now has cost me several hours, some money ( to freeze my credit with 4 bureaus and XXXX XXXX ) and will continue soaking my time and money to deal with paying for and unfreezing reports as necessary in the future.
This is an undue burden from a company I have never chosen to do business with - they are a vendor of my vendors/creditors.
Please take prompt and decisive action to ensure I am compensated for their negligence and that something like this does not occur again.

Complaint: Equifax recently revealed that many accounts have had information stolen from them, and there is no way of knowing which accounts are at risk. This has been happening for about 6 weeks, and Equifax only just released a statement.
Equifax asked users to go on a new website where you could check if your account was at risk. It was quickly revealed that the website gave out random results and was n't at all a useful tool.
I am trying to do everything I can to protect my information. I have never used Equifax ( as I mainly use XXXX ) but since the 3 largest Credit Unions are so interconnected, hackers could still steal my information despite me never giving it to Equifax.
My information is n't their property, even if they believe it is. I have never used their service, and because of their neglect for their customers ( or as they believe, " products '' ) I now have no idea if my personal information ( that I have made a huge effort to protect ) is at risk.
Obviously this is n't just a problem for me, it effected millions. But I just want my voice to be heard because I do n't view myself as a product, and I do n't like the idea of a major company being able to give away information that was n't given to them willingly, and is n't theirs. Thanks.

Complaint: Having checked the Equifax website to see if my information is at risk, I wrote to have my account frozen. I understand that, typically, this service costs up to {$10.00}, but I read tonight that they are charging {$30.00} for this service. The people who treated my confidential information carelessly are now going to charge me {$30.00} to try to protect it retroactively. NOT TO MENTION that the company waited for weeks to disclose the loss and is not forthcoming about what information was lost. OR the fact that their executives sold their stock before announcing the loss. INBELIEVABLE.

Complaint: On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX Equifax announced a massive data breach that has compromised personal data of XXXX43 million U.S. consumers. A website provided by Equifax allows consumers to enter their last name and the last six digits of their SSN to determine if their personal identifiable information was compromised. An inquiry on their website indicated that my personal information, as well as that of XXXX other family members, had been compromised. Equifax is offering " free '' credit monitoring/identity protection for one year. ( Does anyone else see the irony in this? ) Experts recommend placing a credit freeze with the three major credit bureaus as a best practice to help prevent unauthorized use of a person 's identity. As a resident of Oklahoma, law allows the credit reporting agencies to charge me {$10.00} ( +tax ) to initially place a credit freeze, to temporarily lift the freeze, and to permanently remove the freeze. I have attempted to reach Equifax by phone to discuss this matter to no avail. After a lengthy hold, the call was disconnected. A second call was placed and answered by a foreign call center staffed with representatives whom do not speak XXXX as a primary language. Upon asking to be transferred to an XXXX agent I was placed on hold in excess of 30 minutes and I terminated the call. I then sent an email to XXXX XXXX, president of XXXX XXXX XXXX for Equifax. I have not received any correspondence from Equifax.

Complaint: My wife and I now just have to wait to become victims of identify thefts along with XXXX XXXX other Americans for the rest of our lives thanks to Equifax and its XXXX security breach that has been just announced by them as having occurred from XXXX through XXXX of this year.
In accordance with the recommendations of experts, we have obtained the services of a credit monitoring service and have frozen our credit with all XXXX credit reporting agencies at a cost of {$29.00} per month, each, as well as a fee of {$10.00} each, per agency, to " freeze '' our credit reporting with them. The breach is obviously a separate matter entirely but to have to pay a fee to each of these agencies to freeze or unfreeze credit with them on a service consumers can not opt in or out of seems unavoidable and abusive in light of recent events ( a clear UDAAP violation for those of use working in regulated financial institutions XXXX.
The CFPB needs to also refocus itself to protecting consumers from UNREGULATED participants in our financial services industries such as credit reporting agencies and others that in additional to selling products also maintain private personal information. First and foremost with regards to " protecting '' consumers the CFPB should look to ensure that these unregulated participants are subject to the same level of scrutiny and audits that XXXX and established regulators like the FDIC and XXXX do in some many areas including cybersecurity with regards to banks.
