Complaint: The Equifax security beach has exposed myself and family to loss of personal identity, financial distress, and flawed credit. The generic response to inquiry leaves me even more vulnerable to attack with a less than professional and secure PIN. The security of my identity is now a main priority and I should n't have to shell out money to a company that allowed it to happen.

Complaint: Equifax mishandled my information which has led to a breach that puts myself and millions of others at potential risk. I am extremely disappointed with how equifax has handled reporting this breach. Very little was done to notify the public for nearly a month after the breach was detected. I received no email, letter, or phone call and instead had to discover it via traditional news outlets.
Going forward equifax should be required to monitor every account, add additional security & verification steps for any new activity, and notify victims if any fraud occurs. Credit fraud protection should be mandatory for every account, not a paid option given the magnitude of this breach.
This should be rectified firstly by making credit freezing free and refunding everyone who paid for it following this data breach. Requiring a police report is absurd when they clearly know if you were affected.

Complaint: With the Equifax breach I am trying to take precautions to protect my personal information from ruining my financial life. There is very little help on the XXXX or XXXX or Equifax site to guide you to a free credit report lock or fraud alerts. They want to charge you at every turn. This is disgusting. I never asked them to collect my financial data and certainly not allowed them to leak it. I feel every person needs a free way to monitor or be alerted to any breach on their personal information that affects their life and head off a disaster waiting to happen some day in the future. THIS NEEDS TO BE FREE.

Complaint: Equifax failed to properly secure my most sensitive data, including my SSN, DoB, Address, and other highly sensitive information, as it was recently reported as compromised. My information can be used not only to obtain credit in my name, but to obtain medication, lift credit freezes I put in place because of this hack, fraudulently file tax returns, and even to obtain cell phones with my own number ( eg, claiming they lost 'their ' [ my ] phone ), and utilize said phone to log into accounts where secondary authentication is sent to my phone. This last case will allow access to every account I 've taken to precaution of protecting with additional measures, such as my email and brokerage account, and the subsequent accounts linked to my email account.
For the rest of my life I will have to carefully watch my accounts and pay for services to monitor my credit and identity because Equifax could not properly and securely store my most personal and sensitive information.

Complaint: This is in regards to the Equifax security breach. I have been given today 's date as an enrollment date for their monitoring service, but after thinking it over : that is n't good enough. I no longer trust them with my information. It was improperly protected by a company that should know better.
With news out that executives sold stock before announcing this information publicly, it appears they did know better ; they knew how to benefit off treating the information they hold with cavalier indifference. As long as those stocks pay off.
Now, those affected have to pay. Pay for monitoring. Pay for freezes. Pay for alerts. Police reports. Pay for unfreezing should you need credit. Not to mention the time it takes. XXXX, relatives/parents that need help? More time. More money. And what of the XXXX, Equifax? Thank you for making the grieving people of this country have to round up the info of their loved ones XXXX more time, to walk those lonely steps to secure accounts that should never have been exposed.
And no one knows what will happen with this information. What is happening, already.

Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, I have learnt about the Equifax hack. I checked on their website and my " personal information may have been impacted by this incident ''.
Later on, I tried to get a credit report from Equifax and it failed.
I tried to freeze my files and it failed.
I also learnt that the Equifax website to check about the incident does n't even always give reliable information.
I was in XXXX for work and I had to come back to the US in order to figure out how to solve this problem since all the internet-only actions have failed.

Reporting company used your report improperly
Complaint: A major data breach occurred at Equifax, and millions of people 's sensitive private information was leaked. This leak will lead to a lifetime of vulnerability to identity theft. It took over a month for the news of the leak to be made public, and I was never notified individually -- Equifax relied on mass media to take responsibility, when Equifax is the company responsible for maintaining safety of the data. The tool used to cross check whether an individual 's information was leaked is not secured with https, and appears to have been broken -- news outlets reported nonsense input leading to the same output.
Furthermore the proposed solution will do little to mitigate the harm poses by the company 's insecure data storage. In fact, by starting people on free subscriptions to their own credit monitoring service ( and only their own credit monitoring service ), they are likely to make money off of this leak when it comes time for consumers to renew in one year 's time.

I believe the local county ( either XXXX or XXXX Pa ) added the lean/levy. The other credit bureaus do not have this negative entry. My wife and I are seniors living on a fixed income.

Problem canceling credit monitoring or identify theft protection service
Complaint: After finding out about the Equifax data breach on XX/XX/XXXX I wanted to find out if my data was impacted. I visited the dedicated website set up for the breach at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com and found a section for finding out if your information was impacted. The page had the following instruction.
1. Click on the below link, Check Potential Impact, and provide your last name and the last six digits of your Social Security number.
2. Based on that information, you will receive a message indicating whether your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.
3. Regardless of whether your information may have been impacted, we will provide you the option to enroll in XXXX XXXX. You will receive an enrollment date. You should return to this site and follow the How do I enroll? instructions below on or after that date to continue the enrollment and activation process. The enrollment period ends on Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX.
I filled out the form to find out about my information, but instead of being told if my data was compromised or not, I was given a screen showing that I was enrolled in the XXXX program. I was not given an option as stated in instruction # 3. I DO NOT want to be enrolled in this program and I DID NOT agree to the terms or give consent to be signed up. Upon calling the number listed on the page as the dedicated line for this data breach ( XXXX ), the system automatically hung up on me several times after informing me I was calling outside business hours even though I was not. On XX/XX/XXXX, after several days of trying to call the hotline, I finally got through to an agent. The agent immediately connected me to a supervisor who proceeded to tell me that they have very limited info and all they do is tell people to look at the website. He then told me to XXXX the Equifax number and call them. I called Equifax at XXXX, but was told I need to contact XXXX for XXXX questions. I called that number and was told to call XXXX. When I called that number, the system told me that it was outside business hours, told me I could leave a voicemail and then hungup on me.
To reiterate, I DID NOT agree to be signed up for XXXX and I DO NOT want this service.

Account information incorrect
Complaint: My XXXX charge card was apparently 60 days late it was reported to all 3 credit reporting agency 's as delinquient which in turn caused my credi score to go down significafantly. I contacted XXXX department store and made payment arrangements to bring the account current. I explained that kohls would ask for a payment for 2 months in advance. I usually just pay all my credit cards once every month. I explained to the rep that I do not like to make 2 months payment in advance as this is causing me confusion being I am under the impression I am paid for the next 2 months. However I was told on sunday XXXX/XXXX/XXXX that I was given wrong information. I made 3 payment arrangements to bring the account current. I was concerned about my credit reports showing this account as delinquent. The rep put me on hold and spoke to a supervisor and was told to dispute the delinquent charges being I made the arrangements and kohls will respond to remove the delinquient remarks and put my account as showing as paid as agreed. I disputed this account online just now with XXXX but was not able to dispute it online with XXXX and equifax as they say there system is down. I am submitting this complaint because I was given wrong information which in turn caused me to have my account go late when I was under the impression I was current. I am writing in hopes XXXX will hold to there word and remove the negative comments from all 3 credit reporting agency 's because it caused my score to drop by XXXX points.
