Student loan: Private student loan

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have worked for a qualified 501 ( c ) 3 for 13 years. I have tried two separate times to apply for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The first time I was told, by then Sallie Mae, that my loans were no longer federal because I had consolidated them through Sallie Mae who does not participate in the PSLF. At this point I had been making payments for 5 years. I was told I'd need to reconsolidate with a different lender ( they had no information with whom I would need to consolidate ) and begin making 10 years of payments again. The second time I was told my loans were too old, that since I began school in XX/XX/XXXX and finished in XX/XX/XXXXthat they were ineligible. At this point I'm giving up. But I am filing the complaint because as XXXX XXXX at this XXXX, I file paperwork for many employees to get this forgiveness and have yet to see any approved.

Communication tactics

Debt collection: Private student loan debt

Frequent or repeated calls
Complaint: On XX/XX/2018 Navient attempting to collect a student loan debt. I am listed as an information contact on my husband 's student loan. Navient used the whole day to contact members of my family who have nothing to do with the loan. They called at least 4 family members that I know of and possibly more. This was very upsetting to them and it was an invasion of my privacy. When I called in to tell Navient to never contact members of my family again I was met with pauses and aggression. All they could tell me was it " probably '' won't happen again and the people would have to contact them to get their names put on a do not call list. When I told them the law and how they were not allowed to give 3rd parties any information that would indicate that the call was about collecting a debt and that they weren't allowed to call them more than once, they told me they didn't break any laws. They identified themselves as Navient on the voicemails ( 2 of which I still have as well as a recording of the conversations today ). I asked them to give me an example of what else Navient would be trying to contact someone about other than to try to collect a debt and they were unable to even give me one example. They also told me in order to get names put on a do not call list you must own the phone. I do own two of the phones, but they never went through the process of putting the numbers on a do not call list. I was also told that there wasn't a do not call list by a supervisor. I spoke to 3 people and no one there could tell me what the law was regarding calls to a 3rd party. They just threatened to end the call when they didn't have an answer. My family felt confused and harassed by being called about a matter regarding someone they have nothing to do with. My family wishes to never be called about this matter again in the future or they will continue to take actions like this or more serious measures. My husband JUST made a payment to Navient on XX/XX/XXXX, so he's not even 2 months behind and these phone calls were harassing.

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I got a loan back in 2012 that was for a total of {$66000.00} for XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) in California to get my pilots license. It was broken down into 3 different loans. Once I finished my training I was told by Navient that I would be eligible for a rate reduction program to have lower payments. They asked for my financial statements yearly. My rate went from 3.3 % to 10 %. I have not missed a payment bec they required to be auto withdrawals. My payments are now very high and I still owe more than what my loan was originally for. What can I do to fix this.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: 1. In XX/XX/XXXX I set up a automated monthly withdrawal of {$25.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX, I received a phone call stating that my payments were several months late. Upon calling, I was told that I or my father, a cosigner on the account had signed in online and canceled the auto-payment. Neither one of us did this. The account is my bank account and my father has no access to it. I made the payment to bring up to date and the auto-payment was then reset but not without hurting my credit. 2. In XX/XX/XXXX, Navient attempted to make a withdrawal with auto pay from account which was stopped to do insufficient funds. However, a few days later I received a phone call from my father stating that navient had withdrew {$25.00} from his account. This is absurd because the auto pay is set up in my XXXX account and navient has never had my fathers banking account information. When we called them, they stated that we had entered his account information into auto pay which is a blatant lie. We asked them to send us the IP address from the computer that was used to do so and they agreed, however we never heard back. At this point we requested for autopay to be removed. We were told it had been. 3. In XX/XX/XXXX, I had an auto pay withdrawal of XXXX from my account. When called, I was told they would refund this amount and once this was done I could call back to set up repayment plan. This was never done. I was assured again that autopay was removed. 4. In XX/XX/XXXX, another autopayment of XXXX was removed. When contacted navient I was told I authorized these payments. I was told the only was they could refund this was me to fax in to a random number with no attn. to my banking account information. I was told there was no way for them to send an IP address like I was told I would receive. I asked for a copy of the recorded phone calls for the past 6 months and also denied. THESE PEOPLE ARE THIEFS AND LIARS!!!! I have tried to contact an attorney suing them and will continue until I reach someone. They originally could not help me with deferment but then gave me a plan that created a massive repayment. Crooks

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Due to family medical issues I had fallen behind in both of my consolidated student loans. When I contacted Navient in late XX/XX/2018 by phone to tell them I would be able to get back on track next month they directed me to a forbearance until XXXX. When I was able to clear the medical bills in XXXX I contacted Navient by phone on XX/XX/2018 about paying of the smallest of the two consolidated loans in its entirety and making a regular payment on the larger loan ahead of the forbearance date in XXXX. After going through 3 levels of account representatives I was assured that the {$2000.00} payment I made on XX/XX/2018 ( taken out of bank on XX/XX/2018 ) would apply to the smallest of the two consolidated loans and pay it off in full. That would have saved me approximately $ XXXX- {$42.00} per month which I could have applied to the principal on the larger loan. I also paid {$190.00} to the monthly payment on the larger of the two consolidated loans on XX/XX/2018. I created an online account with them afterwards to keep better track of my loans. When I review the statements later it appeared they had applied the payments to the opposite accounts that what I directed them to. This only served to exacerbate the ongoing problem and keep payments artificially inflated. I feel they deliberately failed to provide me with ethical and competent loan servicing duties by ( 1 ) steering me to a loan forbearance and ( 2 ) deliberately misdirecting my payments in order to prevent me from paying off the smaller of the two consolidated loans. When I contacted them by phone on XX/XX/2018 and described the problem, the representative was unresponsive. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was put on hold and eventually had to hang up after about 30 minutes.

Complaint: A payment was sent to Navient on XX/XX/XXXX. I used their online portal and emailed them 3 times to apply my payment in full to loan # 2. Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have been lied to, misguided, and misled since Navient became my loan provider. First of all I was told my loans were direct loans and would qualify for Public Loan forgiveness which they are not. I was told that I was close to making 120 on-time payments. Then I was told I make to much money and that I would satisfy the balance before the 10 years. Then when I was told they were wrong about that and they consolidated my loans in to what was then supposed to a direct loan and my payment were raised and supposedly based on my income. ALL which are lies. All which will cost me 1000 's of dollars. I have been paying these school loans for over 10 years. I could not be more upset at a company for XXXX with my livelihood.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: My loan servicer ( Navient ) reported a non-payment to credit bureaus after I transferred my loans to another company without properly informing me that I was still responsible as a co-borrower for one of my spouse 's loans. The letter I sent to them is pasted below. XX/XX/18 Dear Navient Representative, I am reaching out to you regarding a series of non-payments that were reported on my account beginning in XXXX. As a result, my credit score has dropped from over 800 to less than 700. Since I transferred the servicing of my federal student loans to another company last year, I was under the assumption that I did not owe anything. When I received E-mails stating that I still owed money after the transfer completed, I called Navient and was told to ignore the messages since they are automated. I even logged in periodically just to be sure, and my balance showed XXXX and transferred. Once I became aware of my falling credit, I discovered that the non-payments were from my spouse 's account. When we called to inquire last month, we discovered that I was listed as a co-borrower on a consolidation loan. Needless to say, I was perplexed since all amounts I have ever borrowed for college tuition had been transferred to the new servicer, and I had not received any postal mail notices or phone calls regarding the other account. Additionally, my name is not listed on her account when she logs in, so there is no way for me to know that I bore any responsibility for those balances. I did receive a couple of payment reminder E-mails, but again, when I logged in to my account it was still listing a XXXX balance. We have since requested a forbearance to deal with this issue financially, but I would also like to request an investigation into this situation, and hopefully the removal of the non-payments on my credit report. I have always been a good steward of my student loan obligations and do not have a prior record of payment irresponsibility. A copy of my credit report is enclosed for your review. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, GA XXXX

Complaint: Between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX Sallie Mae, now Navient, outsourced customer service calls to XXXX. Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Private student loan

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Navient XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, PA XXXX This student loan company gave me false information about my student loan, although I was making payments, and was diligent about annual renewals, and communication. The problems have been ongoing and Navient has withheld the truth about the loan. I discovered the extent of the dishonesty when I decided to consolidate all of my loans. In XX/XX/XXXX I began the process of consolidating all of my loans at the Federal Government rate of 6 %. I tried to negotiate a lower rate than the +9 % I was paying but Navient refused. As I began the consolidation process that would add the Navient loan to my XXXX, I was told my loan could be added and yet as I continued to talk to XXXX, I was told over and over that the loan was not a federal loan but a private one. I called Navient, and was told the opposite. They swore it was a federal loan, and someone who was a supervisor even promised to access the national data base files and ensure that my loan would be recognized as such. He even told me to call back in 3 days to ensure that all of the work was done. When I called back I was transferred a number of times, and then hung up on by the agents. XX/XX/XXXX " During a review of your account we discovered that accrued interest was added to your loan, for which you are not responsible. '' Money was added to my loan during the periods of forbearance, and even during the time I was making payments. Phone calls made during the summer of XX/XX/XXXX, show that I had to call back numerous times because I was hung up on. Further, it was revealed by one of the agents, that I was paying an unusual high interest rate, " higher than she had ever seen. '' It is revealed that my loan is a PRIVATE SMART LOAN, and that Navient knew this all along. Further, my LOAN has had NO LENDER since XX/XX/XXXX when XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, the lender " bailed. '' Navient did not disclose this information, nor did they discuss the fact that Navient became my lender without my knowledge. During XX/XX/XXXX, I called to renew my payment plan and was put off, and transferred numerous times. Because I was already making automatic payments, a larger amount was automatically deducted from my account. When I complained and had proof of my phone calls, I was told the refund of my money was delayed for some time. Navient wants me to enter into a forebearance, for 3 months and after that time try to extract a larger amount from me for repayment. The goal for Navient is not so students can pay off the loan, but so they will owe much more money through accrued interest, for longer periods of time.
