Debt was result of identity theft
Complaint: Discover Bank was notified my account was " hacked '' or " hijacked '' after it was paid in full. I sent them a " fraud affidavit '' showing that my email was hacked and my discover card which I thought I had paid off was also hacked and used by unknown criminals to ring up charges. I informed them of these facts, yet they have filed a bogus lawsuit against me in XXXX XXXX County, Texas for a debt I did not incur. They refuse to release the case and go after the proper parties. My wife, who herself had a discover account, even made a payment on this hijacked account believing it to be hers, but it turns out it was my account and it was from charges incurred from identity theft. Discover Bank has not acted in good faith, they are abusive, corrupt and have hired an unethical outside law firm that files dozens and dozens of boilerplate lawsuits hoping to collect default judgments. I have answered the case and provided the court evidence through my answer of the fraud, yet they continue abusive collection tactics for an account in which I did not incur any debt. Discover card has sued the wrong person, myself who also happens to be a XXXX XXXX veteran and victim of identity theft. Discover Bank is corrupt and should be investigated for their illegal actions.

Complaint: XXXX XXXX Disccover card Account number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX On XX/XX/XXXX ( my payment due day ) I made my payment XX/XX/XXXX I received an email informing me my monthly statement was ready, I checked the statement and noticed that the minimum payment for XXXX, was {$100.00} dllrs, much higher than the usual minimum payment. The following day, XXXX day, I called Discover 's customer service to inquire about the reason the minimum payment went up so much. The Representative I spoke with told me it was due to a late fee, I told him I had made the payment on XX/XX/XXXX, the due date.
I made the payment on XX/XX/XXXX, not on the XXXX, as stated on the account information, I was on time. The representative expressed he understood, apologized, told me the late fee will be reversed.
XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email informing me that the late fee had been reversed.
XX/XX/XXXX, I received the monthly email reminding me of the XX/XX/XXXX, payment due day. I noticed the minimum due was still {$100.00} dllrs, the late fee still included, it had not been reversed.
XX/XX/XXXX, around XXXX XXXX. I called Dicover 's customer service to inquire why the minimum payment was still {$100.00}, why the late fee had not been reversed.
The woman that answered my called did not clarify anything or solved the issue, the most she did was to asked me if I wanted to pay {$68.00} dllrs since $ XXXX is {$68.00}, {$37.00} been the late fee.
I was going to pay my bill that day, XX/XX/XXXX, I just needed the late fee reversed first, I don't owe it, is not my mistake, I am not going to pay an amount I don't owe.
The representative was of no help, she kept putting me on hold pretending to be trying to get a hold of her supervisor, she will put me on hold for several minutes, just to come back to tell me she could not find her supervisor, I asked her name she said her name is XXXX, I asked her the supervisor 's name she said the supervisor 's name is XXXX. At the end of the call, all I got was the aggravation of been put on hold several times and dealing with a representative that was ither new and really didn't know what to do, was pretending she didn't know or she is just inept. I wasted close to XXXX minutes, on this call for nothing, also the first call was useless. The possibility of me calling again the customer center is XXXX.
A few hours later the same day XX/XX/XXXX ( a day before the due date ) at XXXX PET I deducted XXXXdllrs of the {$100.00} and made my payment of {$68.00} dllrs XX/XX/XXXX, I received a miss payment email, since then I been receiving emails and calls constantly, harassing me, insisting I haven't made the XXXX payment, ( not accurate, as I already explained ) the due day is the XXXX, I made the payment for XXXX on the XXXX, regardless they added another {$37.00} late fee to my account. followed by emails stating I haven't paid the late fee that is passed due and to pay it.
Then the minimum payment for XX/XX/XXXX was raised to {$140.00} Telling me not to miss a second payment, ( I didn't miss a first payment ) Threatening me to report me to the Credit Bureaus, if I don't pay the {$140.00} dllrs they are charging me as the minimum payment due on XX/XX/XXXX Shame on Discover for the Unfair Fees, deceptive Practices and harassment.
Discover does not send me a confirmation via email or text when I make my payment, all the other credit cards that I make payments to do, immediately after I make a payment.
I also didn't get the email they usually send when you call customer service, asking to take a survey, after the last call I made to customer service, they know how bad and poorly they did.
I been a customer for several years, I always made my payment. Correct your errors back to XX/XX/XXXX, when all this started, REALLY reversed the 2 late fees charged to my account, don't roll them over or disguise them with other charges as was done with the {$68.00} payment I made XX/XX/XXXX, when {$55.00} was applied as interest and {$37.00} for the late fee, and the charge for the late fee continues until now, regardless, I keep getting emails telling me I didn't make my XXXX payment. In this case the late fee was taken out of the {$68.00} payment I made XX/XX/XXXX.
I'm asking you to correct, remove, reverse the 2 late fees the one for XXXX and the one for XXXX. When you actually do this my minimum monthly fee should reflect that, and the amount should be similar to the amounts I paid before this issue started.
I'm asking you to make the correction immediately. Today XX/XX/XXXX, I made my payment of {$75.00} the charges for the late fees that were included on the minimum payment I can not make, I don't owe those amounts.
If the errors are not corrected immediately, I will take any action permitted under the law.

Unexpected increase in interest rate
Complaint: Discover card increased my interest rate in my latest statement by .25 %. They have done this 3 times in the last 18 months. In XX/XX/2018 I closed my account with a balance so the increases would stop.
I did ask them to reduce the interest rate before closing the account but was denied.
Can they keep increasing on a closed account?

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX ( it may have the the first ), I called Discover to give them a routing number and an account number that a Mr. XXXX XXXX ( I believe it was an alias ) gave me to give to Discover to pay off {$4.00}, XXXX. I called later in the day to see if the account was indeed paid off. She said it was and gave me the confirmation number : XXXX. I really didn't expect it to be paid because I thought it was a scam. Consequently, I took {$2500.00} from the account and sent it to an address in NY State. I called Discover to find out whether the {$2500.00} was interest free like the {$4400.00}. They said no, it was 27 % interest. Then I found out that I still owed the {$4400.00}. That the account that I gave them was closed. This was two days later. WHY WOULD THEY HAVE TOLD ME IT WAS PAID OFF THE FIRST TIME I CALLED? I knew then it was definitely a scam and I was burned. Can Discover be held responsible for not telling me? They could have told me that they were not paying the account until the funds cleared, which they would not have cleared because the account was closed. I WOULD NEVER HAVE GIVEN A PENNY IF I'D KNOW THAT MY ACCOUNT WAS NOT PAID OFF. I feel that Discover failed me and owes me the {$2500.00}.
I thought it was a scam to begin with, but when she said my account was paid, I thought, well, I'll be ahead because I'm only using {$2500.00}. WRONG!

Complaint: I was looking for a new credit card that gave me cash back & a transfer options.I found a great deal at a Discover Card plan on the Discover Card website.It sounded to good to be true. It said 0 % interest for 18 mo.on transfer balances. I called Discover Card & ordered a new card. Today I tried to make a transfer of XXXX to their card & was told that their was a 3 % charge to do that. It did not say this on the Website, but it turned out to be on other documentation that was sent to me, further.down on the page.I was thinking that the offer was so good that I might pay the {$60.00} & get on with it. I then checked the interest rate page & came to find out that you have to pay almost 15 % interest on the balance transfer as that was not part of the deal. Everything else was interest free except balance transfers & cash loans. So, my ability to save was nil.All though I was not scammed it sure felt like it. This is just a bad case of deceptive advertising & it should stop. Thought you should know.

Complaint: I opened an account with Discover Bank over the phone within the past month. I wanted to set up internet access so I used the computer at the library, as I don't have internet access at home. I input the information to access my account online - Date of Birth, Social Security Number, Mother 's Maiden Name - without thinking that a library employee or anyone looking over my shoulder would be able to see this. URGENT - THIS NEEDS TO BE HIDDEN WITH ***** AS IT IS INPUT.
I will of course contact Discover, but this is of EXTREME importance due to a very high risk of identity theft. It is unprofessional to say the least, and exposes Discover Bank to liability in encouraging customers to provide personal information without hiding it. Every other bank I've ever dealt with has the sense to hide personal information on the screen.
