Threatened to sue on too old debt
Complaint: This account was established over 10 years ago. I closed it by choice between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. I informed the creditor at that time that I needed to arrange a lump sum payoff settlement amount because of financial hardship but they declined my offer. However, I continued to make the minimum monthly payments until XX/XX/XXXX. In XX/XX/XXXX, I became financially unable to make the payments anymore and the account went into default. Recently, my husband was given a summons by the lawyer of the creditor for a law suit against me. I called the lawyer and tried to negotiate a lump sum settlement amount of {$3000.00} but it was denied because he said it was too low. I can not afford the {$6000.00} settlement he countered. The main point is that the debt is too old to be sued on and the debt has been discharged on my credit report for quite some time now.

Complaint: I received notice of suit on an account that I had. The balance is XXXX. I do not have this money. I can not afford an attorney or any type of garnishment to my wages. I am the sole provider for my son and garnishing my wages is only taking food out of his mouth and depleting funds for his necessities. I did go into this contract with good intentions and I never had such a bad payment history on accounts as I do now. My income has decrease by 10 % and expenses have increase by 40 %. I just do n't have the money that I would like pay.
*Please allow a settlement of 30 % of this balance to be paid within 4 to 6 months. I can begin payment XXXX XXXX.
*Please drop the suit currently in process.
I apologize for being such a bad customer. I never wanted this to happen. I am in my current financial circumstance due to my attempt to band aid lack of funds with credit.

Complaint: Yesterday XXXX/XXXX/XX/XX/2015 I applied for a Credit Card via an offer from Discover Card through Credit Karma. When I submitted my information I was then told I do not qualify for the Discover Card I applied for and a XXXX card offer was made. This XXXX offer of lower interest ( BASED ON MY CREDIT SCORE ) was used a BAIT to get me to fill out the paperwork. Once I completed the paperwork another page popped up asking me to send copies of personal data such as SSN and or Current bills. I was not comfortable providing this information largely since the app did not work and all other credit cards I have can provide approval in XXXX seconds based on information contained in my XXXX XXXX. I called Discover Card and asked them if they were the actual Credit Card or was this scam, the whole thing was a bit fishy. I learned the Discover Card had no idea that they are soliciting new customers using bait and switch tactics on Credit Karma " indicating they do not communicate internally ''. I demanded that this process be cancelled and my credit hit be removed to protect my score. Today I get an email indicating the account was still being processed against my will. I called and spoke to XXXX Senior Agent in Delaware at phone number XXXX regarding application XXXX. I also demanded that she terminate the application and remove the credit hit sine this whole process was unfair and dirty BAIT AND SWITCH tactics. I told her I do not need the card with HIGHER INTEREST and I will not tolerate this treatment.

Complaint: I opened a Discover credit card. Note that Discover has been running NUMEROUS adds touting that it has a XXXX time late payment forgiveness feature. My credit limit with Discover was {$1900.00}, I had used approximately {$1000.00} of my available credit. I was 5 days late with my payment in XXXX 2015, and although Discover waived a late fee ... .they then lowered my credit limit from {$1900.00} to the outstanding balance at that time which was approximately {$1000.00}.
As a result, due to the actions of Discover card, worse than merely charging me a {$30.00} late fee, they cut my spending power in half, thereby knowingly and intentionally reducing my credit score by falsely and fraudulently manipulating my available credit to balance ratio as well as violating their advertised late payment forgiveness.
The multiple advertisements on national television stated that there was NO PENALTY, not that Discover would, without any recourse, knowingly and intentionally manipulate your credit score was never revealed. I believe it is a false and deceptive practice, not only to penalize someone for making a late payment when you are specifically touting your no penalty policy, but to nefariously manipulate credit scores and penalize me nearly {$900.00} is malicious and intolerable.

Complaint: Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted Discover Financial Services ( " Discover '' ) to inquire on the undisclosed " fees '' that were appearing on my billing statements since XX/XX/XXXX as " fees charged ''. I was advised by Discover that this was an " optional product '' that acts as insurance in the event that I were to lose my job, become hospitalized, death, etc. Never was I informed of these fees and, not to my surprise, Discover 's representative advised me that there is no future open enrollment. Thus, Discover indicated and acknowledged that these " fees '' and this billing practice is false and misleading and in violation of UDAP. These hidden fees have never been accompanied by any explanation or any election of renewal or declination.

Complaint: To Whom It May Concern, Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to listen to my story. Here is how it goes.
XX/XX/XXXX, I called Discover Card and activated my 'payment protection ' I had been being charged for since carrying a balance. I was informed at that time I was eligible for up to 24 months of 'payment protection. ' Shortly after that conversation, in the mail I received a letter from Discover Card telling me I was approved for 90 days. At that time, I did n't care I only was approved for 90 days because I was confident I was going to have a job by now.
XX/XX/XXXX, I made what I felt was a courtesy call to Discover Card to let them know I was still unable to make payment due to still being unemployed. My first call was answered by a nice lady. I explained my situation and was intending on asking for my 'payment protection ' to be extended. In all fairness, I was referring to it as 'credit protection. ' She put me on hold then came back on and said she needed to transfer me to someone else. When she did that the call was disconnected.
I made a second call immediately after the disconnected first call and, in similar fashion, when I was getting transferred the call was disconnected.
On my third attempt, the first transfer sent me to someone dealing with identity theft. They had to transfer me to another department and I ultimately arrived ( after about 25 minutes of nobody competent enough to understand what I was asking for ) the Bankruptcy Department.
I, once again, explained I would like to utilize all or at least a portion of my 'credit protection ' and, I assume since she is n't in 'customer service, ' when I told her I could n't pay, she asked if I had filed for bankruptcy. Because of my agitation, I said 'yes, I 'm going to file for bankruptcy. ' She set my credit card status to 'pending bankruptcy. ' I said that purely out of aggravation and 15 or so minutes after that call, I placed a fourth one. I got to the Bankruptcy Department and said I 'm not filing, I have n't filed, I would like that status to be removed. They said they ca n't reverse it. I asked if I was current on my payments and she said 'yes. ' In fact, my next payment is n't due until XXXX/XXXX/XXXX.
Because of 'procedure and policy, ' they are not able to reverse the bankrupt status. I am being courted by XXXX XXXX. That would render a {$30000.00} base pay plus commissions. XXXX XXXX does credit checks and that bankruptcy would not allow me to be hired. It just seems they are cutting their nose off to spite their face because any job I ca n't get prohibits me from paying Discover ( and other bills. ) They seemed very quick to set me into bankruptcy status and very inept to know I still had 21 months of eligibility on my 'payment protection. ' I do n't think I should be penalized for their ineptitude.
I received a letter yesterday ( XX/XX/XXXX ) from XXXX XXXX XXXX , XXXX identifying themselves as a collection agency. They 're only doing their job so I ca n't be upset with the messenger. However, they, as well as Discover Card, have identified I 'm current on my payments. How can I be neglected the ability to use the card if I 'm current on my payments? Yes, I 've been unemployed for some time, and have n't been able to obtain employment for a medical issue that occurred on XX/XX/XXXX. By the way, I 've had my relationship with Discover Card since XX/XX/XXXX. This is the customer service I get as a loyal customer for over 20 years?
Thank you for your time.

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: Hello, my name is XXXX XXXX and I am a 2011 graduate of XXXX XXXX University with a student loan outstanding debt ( XXXX XXXX, Discover Bank ) of a small house in the country. The only major problem I have with that is the outstanding amount the loan company asked me to pay every month, which I was n't able to do. It 's the equivalent to a monthly lease on an apartment. This caused me to be referred to a lawyer firm to " collect debt '', XXXX XXXX XXXX to be exact. I 'm constantly being harassed that I should settle or increase my payments. Both of which I ca n't do because I do n't make that amount of money to be able to do just yet. I 've asked to be on a lower payment plan and I was denied. I 've asked what other options I have that could be worked out with me having to pay rent, eat, actually go to work to make money, etc. Nothing is really being done apart from the phrase " if you do n't increase your payments soon, there is n't much I can do. I 'm doing the best that I can, but clearly it is n't enough. The flip side to that is that I did n't land a job in the field that I graduated from. I 'm using what I did go to school for just a little bit. In all reality, I could 've just purchased software and used trial and error to figure this thing out. Now I 'm stuck paying this super huge amount of money back and the only thing I feel like was actually worth asking for a loan was the living expense that helped me get started in a new city as a young adult. At this point, I 'm sure I 've paid off that amount of living.
In all reality, I do not believe that XXXX XXXX University is worth taking out this much debt unless you already have something established prior to attending. After doing research and hearing the amount of complaints with this school and the graduation rate, the proof is there. I have contacted the other student loan help ( which worked ) concerning federal loans ( subsidized, unsubsidized ), now I would like to have my private loans reviewed to hopefully get a similar result.
