Billing disputes

Complaint: I made a rental car reservation online through. I was not going to be able to use the reservation. I called XXXX to request a refund, they said my reservation was nonrefundable, non transferable, and no changes could be made. I called discover, my credit card company to dispute the charge. They called priceline on a XXXX phone call, and the resolution was my reservation would be canceled and they would provided a refund. I did not received a refund and disputed the charges with my credit card company, discover. XXXX canceled my reservation and did not provide a refund, and I was unable to use the reservation even if I wanted because it was canceled. It is my opinion priceline voided the contract/agreement by canceling my reservation and had a duty to refund my money. Discover said they would not refund my money even though I did not receive the services I paid for.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: I had a private student loan serviced by Discover, which is now paid off. Based on my understanding of the XXXX XXXX consent order between the CFPB and Discover Student Loans, I am a " Tax Information Consumer. '' I did not participate in any of Discover 's tax preparation programs. Accordingly, I believe I am entitled to a payment of {$150.00} ( {$75.00} for tax years XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX ) under the terms of the consent order. I contacted Discover Student Loans to see if there were any procedures needed to claim this amount, or if it would be sent to me. Their representative stated that I would have needed to apply for this payment by XXXX XXXX, XXXX. I am not sure if this is Discover 's actual position, or if the representative was just confused : to my understanding XXXX XXXX, XXXX was the deadline to request tax preparation assistance, not to request a payment in lieu of tax prep assistance.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: Three weeks ago I sent in {$100.00} for a payment its still NOT processed and the balance keeps clocking away against me. {$50.00} 2 weeks ago still not processed and of course the {$50.00} a week ago is still not processed. Its amazing that three weeks can pass and the payment is still not processed onto the balance and the bank benefits with the higher interest while not processing payments mailed in weeks ago.

Can't repay my loan

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: I recently applied to discover student loans hardship program. In three separate occasions I have received an email back on informing me they could approve my l application because it was missing documentation. As I am unemployed I have to submit proof of eligibilty for unemployment. I have stated over the phone to various Customer Service reps at Discover that I do not collect unemployment as I am not eligible for it. I spent close to 45 mins on the phone with a member of the hardship program today, XXXX XXXX, telling them the same thing. What am I suppose to do now committed fraud to give them what they want. My cosigner has graciously agreed to pay them during the hardship period. They refuse to accept a signed letter from both her and myself stating such, but yet have asked her to submit the last three months of pay stubs and her most recent XXXX. From my understanding this hardship program will reduce the payments significantly over a 12 month period but they are making it difficult for those who need the program to get into it. My loan is set to be charged off at the end of this month. I have repeatedly told discover I can not afford to pay XXXX a month and need a lower payment. I get the strong feeling they are trying to push me towards a charge off and a possible lawsuit. I am not refusing to pay them I can not pay them XXXX. Rather than try to find alternatives that make sense, the Customer Service rep was going to transfer back to the charge off department, for them to harang me by telling me, I have pay XXXX by the end of the month if not my account is going to charge off. If I do n't have XXXX where am I going to get XXXX from. This hardship program would have saved me but I can not get into because they seem to think I am lying when I say I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. I can not keep waiting three months to come up with one payment. This has got to stop. How many ways can you say I can not afford this payment.

Taking out the loan or lease

Consumer Loan: Installment loan

Complaint: I 'm filing a complaint against Discover Personal Loans for possibly predatory, deceptive and/or fraudulent lending practices. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I applied for a personal ( debt consolidation ) loan through their website. After I had shopped around a few other online lenders, I found that Discover was the only one that offered the amount and terms I was looking for. I used the loan calculator on their website to get a rough idea of what my interest rate and monthly payments might be, based on my credit score. Though the calculator includes disclaimer language that it is for " educational purposes '' only, the inclusion of the prospective applicant 's credit score gives it the appearance of relative accuracy. A prospective applicant may reasonably assume that her final interest rate may vary by only 1 or 2 percentage points. Given my credit score of over XXXX, the calculator determined a 12.99 percent interest rate and a $ XXXX monthly payment. I applied and received a confirmation that my application had been received and approved. The confirmation email did not include any loan details. This was the only online/written communication I would receive until after the loan had been disbursed. The email instructed me to call their service center to complete a short phone interview. I did. A representative confirmed the basic information in my application and then offered me the loan amount and terms I had applied for, but at a much higher interest rate than I had expected : 18.99 percent. When I balked, she transferred me to a supervisor by the name of XXXX, who offered me a two-point reduction - 16.99 percent -- if I agreed to ACH payments. It was still more than I had hoped for but I agreed. I was borrowing {$30000.00}. My interest rate would be 16.99 percent, resulting in a monthly payment of {$610.00}. I verified this calculation with a separate loan calculator at XXXX. At no time during this process was I asked to provide documentation to verify my income or expenses. This struck me as odd. After the loan had been funded and I was able to log in to my account online, I noticed my monthly payment had jumped to XXXX, with no explanation. The TILA disclosure I received a few days later states that ALL figures - interest rate, terms, payment amount - are " estimates '' based on the first payment date of the loan. This makes no sense to me. I was under the impression this was a fixed-rate, not variable rate, loan. And never have I seen personal loan figures based on the first payment date. I work with accountants and financial aid professionals ; as far as I know, loan figures are always based on the date of disbursement. As the TILA is written now, it would seem that Discover has carte blanche to increase the interest rate and monthly payment amount at their sole discretion. All this taken together - not verifying the borrower 's income and expenses, the lack of written communications prior to asking for the borrower 's consent to the terms, and the inexplicable increase in payment amount - would seem to suggest lending practices that are, at best, just this side of legal, and predatory and deceptive at worst.

Taking/threatening an illegal action

Debt collection: Non-federal student loan

Threatened to sue on too old debt
Complaint: I received a call at XXXX on XXXX/XXXX/16 from XXXX XXXX XXXX . The woman stated that she was calling to collect a debt and when I proceeded to ask questions about where the debt was coming from. She asked if I filed for bankruptcy and if my co-signer had filed which was odd because I have not filed and my mom had filed in the pass which has nothing to do with my current situation. I asked again what company was this from. She said XXXX which is the originator but it actually is from Discover Student Loans. She told me that she wanted to get this resolved or else wages will be garnished or they will have to sue. I was so upset because I have never heard this before and this was my first time communicating with anyone from XXXX XXXX XXXX. I told her that I will let my lawyer know and he will be in contact. She persisted to try and get my lawyers contact info and I repeatedly told her that I will let him know to contact them. She was n't satisfied with the answer but I finally was able to end the conversation.

Delinquent account

Complaint: I paid my XXXX credit card ( {$90.00} balance ) in full or so I thought. The card was one day late and was charged a late fee. I did n't realize that I had incurred the late fee therefore did n't think I was carrying a balance. I do n't recall seeing the statement last the credit card statement either? I used the card again in XXXX and when I went to pay the bill off in full again, I realized I had a past due + 30 day balance. I am in the mortgage industry and realized the impact this ONE LATE PAYMENT BECAUSE I WAS ONE DAY LATE now has dropped my credit XXXX points and the cost of credit I pay increases because i was 1 day late on a {$90.00} balance. And I pay this Target card in full overtime! I reached out to XXXX and the person I spoke with indicated they would open an investigation and realized that I was one day late and have a great pay history etc. I received a letter stating the investigation was complete and they found out they found I was late. While I realize I was, I feel that this impact it has on my credit and financial history is extreme for a 1 day late credit card when I the consumer thought the card was paid in full. I would have paid any amount due then have my credit affected the way it has. Thank you!

Complaint: On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX XXXX accused me of damaging then repairing a rental car that was in my possession for a time period of 24 hours. XXXX submitted a claim with my car insurance XXXX and charged my Discover credit card the deductible fee and one-day rental fee ( a total of {$290.00} ). While XXXX investigated the matter, I contacted Discover to find out the timeline for disputing a charge. Discover told me that customers do not have a deadline for disputing a charge. XXXX found me at no fault for the accident and did not submit payment to XXXX. XXXX reported they were taking the case to arbitration. Since Discover told me I had no deadline for filing a claim to dispute the charge, I decided to wait for an outcome from the arbitration process before pursuing a dispute charge with Discover. Since it has been about 2 years and XXXX has not pursued arbitration I went ahead and submitted a claim with Discover in XXXX, XXXX. After Discover completed their investigation, I was informed that they are not able to validate the details of the claim because XXXX did not respond to the claim. Per Discover, XXXX has the right not respond to this claim, therefor, there is nothing Discover can do for me, the consumer. I feel like Discover is deceitful by telling costumers that there is no deadline to dispute a charge. Discover is misleading consumers. Not only was I a victim of fraud from XXXX but also from Discover.

False statements or representation

Debt collection: Credit card

Impersonated an attorney or official
Complaint: I received a phone call at XXXX XXXX XXXX on XXXX XXXX, 2016 from the office of " Attorney XXXX '' of XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, phone XXXX ). The call alleged that I was named in a judgment hearing by Discover Card, for a debt that was almost twenty years old. The person on the phone asked if I was aware of this litigation, which I was not. She then proceeded to say the debt was attached to my SSN ( which she did not give ) and recited my date of birth. She kept repeating the name " Attorney XXXX XXXX '' in response to any inquiry I had, as if that was supposed to scare me into paying on the spot. I told her to send any information regarding this matter to me, in writing, and hung up. While I do not dispute this almost twenty-year-old debt, I am complaining about the fraudulent, intimidation practices used to try and collect this debt. If I were truly being sued, I would have received formal, writren notification by now. I have also filed a complaint with the XXXX of XXXX Illinois ( XXXX complaint # XXXX ), as an internet search showed that this company had multiple complaints ( XXXX and otherwise ) against it.
