Please be advised that this is not a refusal to pay, but a notice sent pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 { b } that your claim is disputed and validation is requested.

Complaint: I signed up online for a promotion from Discover for a credit card offering a 12 month 0 % balance transfer option. I was approved and proceeded to transfer {$1500.00} from a XXXX XXXX card with a high interest rate. When I received my first bill from Discover, it showed an interest charge for the balance transfer. I contacted Discover, and they are telling me that we replied to a " counter offer '' with different terms. This is incorrect. Everything was approved during the initial application online. Even now, when I do a soft inquiry on their website to see what I may be approved for, the offer is still open to me to submit a balance transfer at 0 % interest for 12 months. Discover has said they will review it, but to allow up to 30 days for a response and in the meantime I should consider transferring the balance to a different company. This is not acceptable.

Complaint: I am the spouse of the primary holder of a Discover credit card. I am an authorized user and for many years have managed the business of this account. Discover Card has written authorization from my wife and primary holder, on this account. However, Discover refuses to allow me to be a " joint holder '' because of " insufficient income ''. Not being a joint holder locks me out of important business matters regarding this account. This seems incredibly arbitrary and discriminatory to me. This has been on ongoing problem with Discover and recently has caused problems with the management and fees for this account.

Attempted to collect wrong amount
Complaint: A judgement was issued against me in the amount of {$9400.00}.
I made contact with the debt collection company and came to a payment agreement of {$200.00} per month. To date I have paid {$1200.00} and have records of all checks. They indicate that my balance is now {$8900.00}. This implies that they have put {$480.00} toward the debt. I have documentation including bank records and receipts from the collector from all payments. The initial agreement nor the court documents make any mention of interest or anything similar, especially at a percentage rate that seems to work out to over 50 %.

Complaint: This company is still reporting a account on my file after i been notified that i have been a victim of identity theft and that i have all the necessary paperwork filed and police reports to support my claim. I 'm in the process of getting a mortgage and this account is hurting me and it is being listed as bankruptcy. I also have a fraudulent bankruptcy filing that I 'm working with the courts and the government to get that issue rectified. I have been dealing with this issue for years now with all my personal information being stolen such as social security number, address, DOB, phone numbers opened under my name and bank accounts opened under my name. I request this company remove my name and social from this account immediately and mark it as fraud so if i choose to do business with this company in the future this issue wo n't stop me. I have attached my police reports and FTC fraud identity theft affidavit which has a letter from the government showing that my identity was stolen in a cyber hack also.

Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX Received a call at home phone insisting we pay a Discover credit card debt from XX/XX/XXXX for {$4100.00} which he would reduce to {$1700.00} if we paid today. We asked to mail us proof said it would be {$7.00} per page at XXXX pages. He said he did not have to prove we owed the debt, we had to prove we did n't and if we did not pay before today he would have my husband served papers indicating Docket # XXXX. Threatened judgement with a lien against my husband 's XXXX Ford Thunderbird. Represented himself from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Attorney Firm in Florida. His name XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX. Called the next day and gave all the same information to my ill sister we just recently moved in with us and a message to give to me saying if I did n't call back today with {$1700.00} it would be too late and legal action would be filed. I went home from work to call him back because I did not want him having my work number or cell number. I asked him to notify us by us mail. He asked for my email, to which I replied US mail only please. He said " so you want to play that game. '' Tried to talk over me and would not have a professional respectful conversation. I asked him to not call my home again. I told him he broke the law by sharing debt collection information with my sister. I told him as a third party collector he could not call my home everyday. He stated he was not a third party collector, he was with an Attorney Firm. He said " You just blew it because your sister was going to pay this for you ; '' He lied. I told him I called the Ohio Attorney General 's office today to file a compliant. He stated the Attorney General could not do anything to him because they do n't know anything about his business and they had no jurisdiction over him. He told me my new husband was going to ruin my credit because in Ohio I was responsible for this debt even though it was before we were married. I told him to never call our home again. He refused to disclose verification of the debt. He made false statements. He threaten legal action. He refused to give me his address for written communication. He clearly made it known he was above the law and no respect or fear of violating it. I am taking this step because I am a reasonably smart business woman and he was able rattle me. He could easily scam or cause a weaker person dangerous physical stress. Here 's the bottom line. We have good credit. The debt is not reported on my husband 's credit bureau. If he owes it we would pay it but we are not going to give a random person any personal information over the phone. Please advise to what steps I can take to stop this harassment.

Complaint: Discover and XXXX XXXX XXXX offer XXXX percent interest card for 12 months on balance transfers. In the fine print with Discover they state there is a charge of XXXX percent each month on the remaining balance at end of month. I did not see that as it was buried in fine print. BofA doing something similar. I got a card from each and now have to make payments every month on both cards. It 's deceiving. Only option is to cancel the cards but hurts my credit score.

Can't temporarily postpone payments
Complaint: I received a student loan from Discover. I was notified that my bill was due in mid-XXXX and I told them I would be unable to pay until the end of XXXX, at which time I would also cover XXXX 's bill. They seemed understanding until I started receiving multiple daily calls from them. I called back, reiterating my previous statement of being unable to pay for a month. Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I started the process of filing for a loss Mitigation package with Discover, whom we have a second mortgage with. They have made it increasing difficult to obtain a loss mitigation package, as each time I submit the paperwork they are looking for they tell me I am missing paperwork. By the time I get the paperwork they are looking for they inform me it is too late and must start the process all over again, all with new dates and new paperwork. My husband lost his job XX/XX/XXXX and took a job making half the pay. My primary mortgage holder has not been this difficult to deal with and has worked with me twice since XX/XX/XXXX. Just recently I sent all the paperwork Discover said that I was missing and now they claim I am missing one week 's paystub for myself, two months of statements for an inactive account ( not closed ), and an explanation for deposits over {$500.00}. I clearly wrote on the inactive statement that the Bank does not provide monthly statements for inactive accounts, and the statement clearly shows the date of the last statement sent out. The account which has {$500.00} clearly shows the funds were transfers not cash deposits and was noted on the statements. As for my paystubs, it clearly shows that I get paid bi-weekly not weekly. I do not feel as if an explanation is in order for this. Their excuse now is they need this explanation in writing. Please note, we only owe {$67000.00} to them on a house that is worth {$800000.00}. I have attempted to give them all the information they need at least on XXXX different filings of a loss mitigation package with them. All While receiving at least 2 phone calls a day regarding our late payments. I am beginning to feel as if they would rather foreclose on our home than come to an agreement with us.

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: In the XXXX, Discover nearly quintupled my monthly payment from {$120.00} per month to {$580.00}. I have explained to them countless times that I am unable to afford that type of payment per month. I have informed them that I am very willing to meet somewhere in the middle. In return, Discover has done the following : - Discover allowed me to go back on the graduated repayment plan in XXXX of XXXX, but again quintupled the monthly payment despite my countless testimonies that I was unable to afford what they demanded was the required monthly amount, even after I provided income verification, a fair monthly payment range that was almost three times more per month than the graduated repayment plan amount, stating they were n't able to do so, without any explanation why, at any time.
- Discover has refused any type of loan modification in any capacity.
- Discover has told me for three years now that they will be introducing new types of repayment plans that would allow me a lower monthly payment, they have not done so at any time.
- Discover has put me on what is known as the " Payment Extension Program '' several times, which, over the phone, forces me to sign up for automatic payments on a three month basis, only broken down on a per loan basis, which still does not provide any type of loan modification that leads to a monthly payment reduction, causing me to fall further behind on my payments despite repeated attempts by me explaining that I can not afford the monthly payment they are refusing to negotiate on.
- The outright lies by Discover, especially on their recorded phone conversations about new repayment programs that have never come to fruition, and how the " Payment Extension Program '' will supposedly make my account current, has in turn caused my credit score to suffer severely, and I am concerned that I will never be able to repair it due to the damage Discover Student Loans and their unwillingness to modify the loan repayment terms on a monthly basis to a fair amount that I have expressed to them countless times that I am willing to meet in the middle on will only cause further harm.
