Frequent or repeated calls
Complaint: My family is currently experiencing financial hardship and we are working very hard to keep up with current bills, past due bills, etc. Discover Financial has recently contacted my past employer and I feel that this is highly inappropriate. - This happened a few years ago, when it was n't even an actual debt, more like a misunderstanding with a loan I had paid off, and now that I 'm having actual financial difficulties, they are trying to reach me by contacting people I have n't worked with or seen in years. I would like to file a complaint about this debt collection practice. Thank you for your help.

Complaint: In XXXX 2016 I was considering a new cash back credit card and called Discover to inquire about a new card with cash back features. I was told that an old account existed with discover and it could be converted to the new IT card with a {$100.00} bonus and cash back.
I accepted the offer and a card was issued. When the bonus requirements were met I waited for awhile and the bonus never showed up on my account. Today I called Discover and spoke to XXXX and then supervisor XXXX XXXX. XXXX stated that no notation was made on the account when it was converted for the bonus, then XXXX stated that no offers existed during the time frame of the account being opened. I asked for a written response to my inquiry, XXXX XXXX stated the Legal would not like that and she was unable to provide anything in writing. I requested the address for the Legal Department, she declined to provide that address.
As a bonus was offered to me when the card when I accepted a new card to be issued by Discover and the bonus requirements were met I should get the bonus.

Complaint: Discover refuses to apply my payments above the minimum payment to the balance with the higher interest rate first. I have asked over the phone and through the online message center. The response I keep getting is " the company can apply it the way they want. '' Their agreement says : We apply payments and credits at our discretion, including in a manner most favorable or convenient for us. In all cases, we will apply payments and credits as required by applicable law. Each billing period, we will generally apply amounts you pay that exceed the Minimum Payment Due to balances with higher APRs before balances with lower APRs as of the date we credit your payment. According to the Fair Credit Billing Act of XX/XX/XXXX, they must apply the additional to the higher APR. I do not understand how they can get away with this. Especially if I requested it. The split occurred with the balances XX/XX/XXXX. The balance with the higher rate was at {$1200.00}. I can not add to that balance ; all new charges go with the other APR. The balance on that portion is now {$1400.00}. I was late one time in XX/XX/XXXX which was forgiven. After that, I was never late, there were only 2 times that I paid the minimum, and I tried to pay above the minimum ( even if it was only a few dollars ). There were a few times when the balanced decreased, then it would go back up. That is one of the reasons I did n't notice until I pulled out all of the bills. I did n't notice the issue because, the total balance on the card was decreasing and I assumed they did as the law required. I only recently started writing down everything, only to notice the balance on the higher rate has actually increased since XX/XX/XXXX. Do I have any recourse? Also, it is very hard to tell how any of the credit card companies apply the payments on multiple balances on the same card. I think all credit card companies should be required to provide a breakdown of how they applied your payment on your billing statement.

Complaint: I check my balance today at Discover it it displyed the following ( information also in the from as an attachment from the website ).
Last Statement Balance : {$310.00} Recent Transactions : {$850.00} Recent Payment and Credits : - {$0.00} Current Balance : {$1400.00} I am not sure how you do that math. How can you add XXXX to XXXX and arrive at XXXX? That is just incorrect and Discover is trying to deceive customers. How are they off by {$300.00}?
Now Discover might state that it is because of Pending Transactions. However, that is not true. Also included in the transaction is all of the current Pending Transactions. You will notice that this total is {$59.00}. So I will give Discover the benefit that my current balance may include pending transactions but that still means there is a difference of {$240.00}. Additionally, Discover gives the definition of Current Balance to say " Your Current Balance is the total of all transactions posted to your account as of the previous business day. '' Please note the key words of POSTED and that there is no mention of PENDING in that statement. This information can be found at Discover.com. I understand that there are some merchants that can impact the Available Credit ( i.e. Hotels, car rentals, etc. ) But as stated on their site, this will affect the Available Credit and NOT the current balance. Current Balance seems like a pretty easy calculation and they even lay out that calculation on the website as seen in the attachment.
This needs to be corrected.

Can't get flexible payment options
Complaint: Basically I was given a private student loan from Discover of around {$37000.00} for about XXXX semesters ( XXXX summer plus a full year ) of film school with the XXXX XXXX XXXX University. When it came time to get another loan for my second full year of XXXX, Discover informed me that they were no longer doing business with my school and that they would not be able to give me another loan. Because of this, my Dad had to go into debt by getting a parent plus loan for my second year and after that I was unable to continue attending the school. I was able to earn an XXXX degree but not the full XXXX degree. Now I am barely able to find work and I have had to get in even more debt pursuing other degrees to keep from paying back unimaginable loan debt. I do n't mind paying back my federal loans, but my private loan has now soared to more than {$53000.00} ( For ONE year of XXXX ) with current payments of {$570.00} a month. I 'm not sure who ( other than myself ) is more responsible for my current debt, Discover or the XXXX XXXX XXXX University but either way I was duped ( at age XXXX ) into an enormous amount of debt that will be impossible for me to pay off. My biggest concern with Discover is that had my Dad not taken out that additional loan, I would not have been able to do even more than one year of XXXX and how would I be able to pay back anyone without the benefit of an actual degree? This does not seem right and I would simply like a review of both my loan and my former school to determine if any fraud was applied to my situation. Thank you for taking the time to assist me with this matter.

Complaint: I originated a Discover personal loan at {$4500.00} 6 or 7 months ago have made XXXX payments = $ XXXX on time never late and show owing $ XXXX bottom line is the interest being charged is shady. In review of statments some payments the bank took {$20.00} and applied to principal and the remaining {$95.00} is applied in interest? The on other statements its more evenly distributed. Is this fair? The bank can chose to randomly change the amount of principal and intrest applied from payment? Had i known it wasnt going to be an even and fair disribution of my payment i would of never took out this loan. There is no where to view the actual $ amount charged in interest on the loan. The bank only shows how much of the payment they applied to interest not how much was charged. Its shady and DISCOVER PERSONAL LOANS should be held accountable. I feel like ive paid an accessive amount of interest for only having originated this {$4500.00} loan 6 months ago

Complaint: I used a 0 % APR balance transfer offer a while ago and then later made a purchase, forgetting that the 0 % APR was just for balance transfers. My minimum payment was more than enough to pay down the purchase over a couple of months, so I assumed it would be paid off shortly. However, the minimum payment was only being applied to the lowest interest balance, not to the highest interest balance as I assumed. I talked with a customer service representative online, and they only apply amounts in excess of the minimum to the highest interest balance.
