Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: I paid off my American Express Credit Card XXXX, XXXX. I have been complaining and have received six letters from American Express that they are looking into and gave me six different dispute numbers. I have been reported to XXXX that I am delinquent. Each time American Express sends me a letter to acknowledge my dispute, they give name a dispute number and ask for more time to look into and resolve my case. Last week, American Express asked me to give them to XX/XX/XXXX to resolve the problem. I agree and this will be the 7th time to resolve my case. Also, they promised not to report my case as being delinquent, and I noted XXXX showed me delinquent with American Express early in XXXX. Before my last conversation with American Express. American Express did call me back this week and told me that I OWE THEM THE MONEY. I asked to see the statement showing where the charges are coming from and was told they could not provide me since it was last year. They told me I had to go back and check all my statements and payments made. I told them that was not acceptable since they claim I opened another card and I disputed opening a third card.. they said I requested a third card and I told I never did. They claim I had three cards with American Express and ask them to show me where I accepted and sign for a third card. They have really screwed up my two accounts which I have paid in full, therefore I need help from CFPB to make them send me statements showing where I opened a third account and made charges.

Complaint: On XX/XX/19, I applied for an American Express Starwood Preferred Guest credit card with a promotion to earn XXXX points after spending {$3000.00} in 3 months. Under the Offer Terms, it states : " Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had The XXXX XXXX XXXX Credit Card from XXXX, The XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Credit Card from XXXX, The XXXX XXXX Credit Card from XXXX, or The XXXX XXXX Credit Card from XXXX XXXX in the last 30 days. '' I haven't had any of these cards in over a year, so I applied. When I received the card I activated it on XX/XX/19 and called to confirm the above referenced promotion. I was told I was ineligible and was told the offer terms were different than what I had recorded when I applied. American Express opened a case to investigate whether I was eligible.
On XX/XX/19, I spoke with an American Express agent who said the investigation confirmed the wording of the offer terms I originally referenced, but said I was still ineligible, without citing any specific violation. I have not been an account holder of any of the above referenced XXXX accounts in over a year. I was told to submit screenshots of the related account closures with XXXX. An additional investigation was opened and I was told it could take 6 to 8 weeks to resolve.
Meanwhile, the original American Express offer opened for this credit card was to spend {$3000.00} within 3 months of account approval, which will be approximately XX/XX/19 If I wait for the investigation to complete ( 6 to 8 weeks from XX/XX/19 ), I will have passed the deadline to complete the minimum spend and will definitely not be eligible for the bonus promotion. I noted this to the American Express agent on XX/XX/19, and was told the investigation might be finished sooner and I could choose to make the {$3000.00} spend or not.

Complaint: I applied for the Business Gold Rewards card on XX/XX/2018 which offered a sign-up bonus of 50,000 MR Points after {$5000.00} in spend. Several weeks later, I confirmed with American Express that the offer was on my account and I had until XX/XX/XXXX to meet the spend requirement. I spent over the amount required.
I contacted American Express on XX/XX/XXXX since I did not see the bonus in my account yet. They told me that the previous agent had mis-informed me, but I was not eligible for the welcome offer because my account history shows I have " opened and closed frequently. '' I have only ever closed one American Express credit card.
They then claimed that I received a pop-up that I was not eligible for the bonus when I was applying. This is not true and I did not receive any notice that I would not be eligible for the welcome bonus.
They are denying me a welcome bonus that they confirmed I would be receiving. I have read many reports and complaints from others about the same issue who also did not receive the pop-up that they claimed would be impossible to miss.

Complaint: WHEN AT THE HOSPITAL, MY VEHICLE THAT WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT WAS ACCUMULATING STORAGE FEES AND AUCTIONED OFF ALONG WITH MY DRIVER LICENSE, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, W2, 1099, CREDIT CARDS AND CHECK BOOKS AND THE PERSON WHO TOOK POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT RETURN MY PERSONAL ITEMS AND DID NOT TAKE CARE TO SECURELY DESTROY THEM.
I CALLED UP AMERICAN EXPRESS WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND REALIZED THAT THE TOW YARD HAD AUCTIONED OFF MY VEHICLE WITH CREDIT CARDS IN THE VEHICLE AND ASKED TO CHANGE THE ACCOUNT NUMBERS AND HAVE NEW CARDS REISSUED. MR. XXXX WAS ASSIGNED BY THE XXXX COUNTY COURT AS A CONSERVATOR AND MANAGE MY FINANCIAL MATTERS BUT HE TOOK THE CHANCE TO REDIRECT ALL MY MAIL AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS TO HIS OFFICE SO I NEVER RECEIVED A REPLACEMENT. AS SUCH, I CAN NOT VERIFY THE VALIDITY OF THESE CHARGES AS I HAD MANY CARDS THAT I DID NOT USE ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THEY HAD XXXX BALANCES AND ARE PAID IN FULL EACH MONTH IF SOMETHING APPEARS ON THE STATEMENT.

Complaint: Yesterday XX/XX//2019 I received the following email from American Express.
They lowered by Credit Limit without any notice this was going to be done or options I could take to handle beforehand. Only options after it was lowered.
I was not anywhere near the credit limit, had made all payments on time. Apparently, it was decided after pulling a credit report to lower the credit limit.
The biggest problem this has created is now this Credit Card is considered " maxed out '' which it was not even close to being " maxed out '' prior to them lower the limit.
The problem this is going to have on my credit report is it will lower my credit score, which is important on the credit front in general.
The fact that this was done without any prior notice, which I am sure they can do, which is so unethical.
I did call them and spoke to a customer service rep who is the one who read over the phone why the limit was lowered. I felt like I was talking to a robot and this robot was just reading a script.
This is an unfair practice in my opinion as I have always been on time with the payments, always paid more than the minimum. Never read if I didn't pay the balance down by a certain time I would have my limit lowered.
The only reason this is so maddening is that now by no fault of my own credit limit and my credit score will be affected greatly.
Not sure what can be done about this practice. But it is an extremely unfair way to treat good customer 's who pay their credit card on time and had considered being in good standing.
My credit limit was {$20000.00} and the amount used {$10000.00}. I had also made a payment of {$450.00} just a few days earlier.

I GOT CALLS FROM DIFFERENT CREDIT CARD COMPANIES ASKING ME IF I MADE ANY CHARGES TO MY ACCOUNTS AND I QUICKLY CALLED UP ALL THE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES I COULD RECALL BASED ON MY CREDIT REPORT LOOKUP AND TOLD THEM TO RE-ISSUE NEW CREDIT CARDS AND I WAS ASSURED THAT I WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CHARGES THAT I DID NOT AUTHORIZE OR MAKE UP TO A MAXIMUM OF USD XXXX FOR SOME CARDS AND USD XXXX FOR OTHERS.
UPON DISCHARGE, I QUICKLY WENT TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON ALL MY CREDIT CARDS AS I DID NOT WANT NEGATIVE REPORTING TO THE CREDIT BUREAUS OR TO INCUR LATE FEES. ALMOST ALL THE CREDIT CARDS WERE PAID DOWN TO XXXX BALANCE BEFORE XXXX XXXX, A CONSERVATOR ASSIGNED BY THE XXXX COUNTY COURT TO MANAGE MY FINANCIAL AFFAIRS CAME ALONG.
MR. XXXX WAS WARNED THAT THERE MAY BE FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY ON MY CREDIT CARDS BUT DID NOT VERIFY WITH ME ANY OF THE CHARGES. INSTEAD, HE REDIRECTED ALL MY MAIL ( INCLUDING THE REPLACEMENT CARDS SENT AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ) TO HIS OFFICE AND SEIZED CONTROL OF ALL MY BANK ACCOUNTS.
NOT ONLY WAS HE NOT PRUDENT WITH MY FINANCES, HE WAS RECKLESS AND NAIVE AND CANCELLED ALL MY CREDIT CARDS RESULTING IN MY CREDIT TO DEBT RATIO DROPPING TREMENDOUSLY AND ALONG WITH IT MY CREDIT SCORE.
IT IS UNKNOWN WHETHER THE AMERICAN EXPRESS ACCOUNT # XXXX OPENED ON XX/XX/XXXX AND LAST REPORTED ON XX/XX/XXXX HAD ANY CHARGES RESULTING FROM ANNUAL FEES OR UNPAID BALANCE BUT IT APPEARS THE CARD WAS PAID OFF IN FULL BY XX/XX/XXXX AND NOT USED AFTER THAT WITH NO DATA ( BECAUSE NO PAYMENTS WERE NEEDED DUE TO A XXXX BALANCE ) POSTING ON THE ACCOUNT AND THEN AN ABRUBT CHARGE OFF ON XX/XX/XXXX AFTER MR XXXX TOLD ME THAT THESE ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED BY HIM.
IT IS UNSURE WHETHER THESE CHARGES WERE MADE BY HIM OR BY SOME FRAUDULENT PARTY WHO HAD ACCESS TO MY CREDIT CARD ACCOUNTS FROM THE DATA AND SECURITY BREACH THAT ACCOMPANIED THE AUCTIONING OFF OF MY VEHICLE OR IF THE CHARGES WERE DUE TO ACCOUNT ANNUAL FEES AND INTEREST, WHICH IS UNLIKELY TO OCCUR IF THE ACCOUNT WAS INDEED CLOSED AND ACCRUE A XXXX CHARGE OFF AMOUNT.

I THEN QUESTION WHY THIS ACCOUNT THAT I EXPLICITLY RECALL PAYING DOWN TO XXXX BALANCE IS SHOWING UP WITH A CHARGE OFF AMOUNT IN THE RANGE OF USD XXXX AND AFFECTING MY CREDIT HISTORY AND ABILITY TO SECURE FUTURE CREDIT AND EMPLOYMENT JOB CHANGE ESPECIALLY SINCE MR XXXX XXXX WAS APPOINTED BY THE XXXX COUNTY COURT AS CONSERVATOR STARTING SOMETIME IN XXXX, WHEN THE ACCOUNT WAS STILL IN GOOD STANDING AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED AFTER HE TOOK OVER AS I WAS DEPRIVED ACCESS TO MY BANK ACCOUNTS AND ALSO MY FINANCIAL AND BANKING AND LEGAL AND TAX STATEMENTS THAT WERE ALL FORWARDED TO HIS OFFICE.

Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Complaint: I was purchasing airline tickets through the Delta XXXX website and there was a promotion for Delta SkyMiles credit card, I called an talked to an American Express agent and he signed me up for the skymiles card and charged me {$190.00} dollars, he was very hard to understand. Terms required that I spend {$3000.00} on the card within 90 days and I would receive XXXX bonus miles. I did spend the {$3000.00} in 30 days, including the {$190.00} service fees. When I called American Express on XX/XX/XXXX they explained that I did not reach the XXXX dollar amount because they do not include the service charge as part of the XXXX dollars. I explained to them that the adviser never explained this to me and they should make an exception. American Express said they would send this to their complaint department and I would receive a written response in 8 weeks, which I never received. I called on XX/XX/XXXX and they gave me the same response and now they are not responding in writing. Then the American Express adviser said he couldn't hear me and disconnected the call, even though I was calling from a land line. American Express has very deceptive in their practice and I feel they are taking advantage of senior citizens. I would like my XXXX bonus miles or my {$190.00} back. They should also respond me in writing as they said they would. American Express advisers are very deceptive and just hang up on you. I was very polite on the phone and they still hang up.

Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Complaint: I was referred to apply for my Amex Everyday card on XX/XX/2019 and was advertised that after spending {$2000.00} within the first 3 months, I can receive XXXX Membership Reward Points. But after I met the spending requirement, they refuse my sign up bonus with no specific explanation, stating that I misuse the rewards program which I never have done so. Before I applied for the card I have only had a Delta Gold account with Amex and never closed it or downgrade it. I use it to purchase tickets from Delta occasionally and it was very helpful to save my checked bag fee. I loved Amex cards so I decided to apply for Amex gold to use it for restaurants and grocery purchase as well. But in the end, this turns out to be a quite disappointing experience. Also, their customer service also gave me misleading information, I called them many times, some told me to rest assure because I need to wait for about 8 weeks for my welcome bonus to be posted, but in the end, they were just declined with no clear reason.
