Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: Yes, I am a XXXX American on XXXX I graduated college XX/XX/2015. I have not been able to find a job pertaining to the degree I earned at the University I attended. I can not make my monthly payment to Sallie Mae. I tell the agents my problems and the only thing they tell me is to pay a XXXX to defer loans for one month. I recently check my loan status with Sallie Mae the deferment is not placed on my account. I 've asked several times based on my issues for a reduction in my monthly payment or term extension. My interest rate keeps changing I told me rate for Sallie Mae is a fixed rate not a adjustable rate.

Can't get flexible payment options
Complaint: I was basically bullied into leaving this University. I was lied to about my completion rate at the beginning of my last quarter at this school. I was told if I got C grades or higher for full time, my completion rate would be in good standing for a federal student loan. By the end of the quarter, this person who lied about my completion rate suddenly disappeared without a trace. Although my GPA was raised as promised by me completing the credits needed, the completion rate was not high enough to get the money I needed to continue at the University. They tried very hard to keep my grades lower than a C, but I worked so hard that they had to give me C 's for my, what was A work. I filed numerous complaints about these grades, but no-one seemed to care, if they listened at all. When I brought up the teachers being on a separate payroll by failing 64 percent of students at this school, it was game over for me. They refused to grant my personal loan with Sallie Mae even though I was approved. They held the loan money too long, and discharged me from the University. I feel as though I did my part, but they did not follow up at all with their end, and tried everything to have me quit. When I did n't, they just hit below the belt because I had nothing, and was vulnerable. They are still trying to make me pay some random fee now, a year later, even though I am in a tremendous amount of student debt. It is my understanding that this University was under investigation twice by the XXXX during my enrollment.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: There is no way to set up auto-pay ( auto-debit ) to pay more than the listed payment amount. As per their FAQ page : " If you would like to pay more than the Current Amount Due, you can make an additional one-time payment by logging in to your online account, calling, or mailing a check. '' This is an unnecessary burden on those able to pay more than the required amount and is a terrible way to try to limit a borrower 's ability to pay back loans. This practice for private loans is also a cheap attempt to increase their own profits through additional interest income.

Complaint: Hello, I have a student loan with SallieMae. They keep giving me harassing phone calls. When I tried to make a resolution with them, they did not want to work one out for me. I explained to them that I am having a financial hardship at the moment, since my apartment was broken into two times. But, they did not want to hear it. Please advise or help me regarding this situation. Thank you.

Don't agree with fees charged
Complaint: I graduated from XXXX XXXX University in XXXX 2016. I was told that I would start paying my loan six months after graduation. However, Sallie Mae made a mistake with my account and now it appears that I have a late payment with fees. I was not aware of this and when I tried to speak with a representative, they blamed the University. This is not an isolated incident. They also made a mistake with my sister 's account, last week. My issue is that they should have a record of my loan disbursement which would show my enrollment in school for the XX/XX/XXXX 2016. I feel as though they purposely make mistakes in order to charge extra fees. This is not right and I should n't have to pay for their mistakes. This affects my credit score. How do I proceed from here?

Can't temporarily postpone payments
Complaint: I am behind on my private student loans from Sallie Mae, and I believe they are not working in good faith with me to ensure I can pay back the loans. In order to obtain forbearance, I must have my cosigner report every single asset to them, with the possibility that this will actually increase the monthly payments that I already can not afford. Secondly, if I am approved for forbearance, I must pay a {$50.00} fee per loan per month of forbearance that is not in any way applied to my loans or interest accumulated during that forbearance. This is not only unfair and counter-intuitive to the process of forbearance, I believe this is an extortionate practice aimed at discouraging me from using this process and simply accruing late fees and negative marks on my credit.
There must be something that can be done other than have money I already do not have thrown away on a fee that does nothing to help me save money and maintain my obligation to this loan

Frequent or repeated calls
Complaint: They are not just calling me everyday, three to even five sometimes more per day, they ( XXXX XXXX - Sallie Mae ) even emails me daily, sometimes more than once a day. The fact 's are this is my grandson 's loan I am only a co-signer. He is not in default but having an issue between XXXX XXXX ( whom really is the big problem ) and acquiring a loan to get back into school. They kicked him out the day before finals because our loan was not complete which put him into an XXXX. We got a loan through XXXX and the school refuses to enroll him so the loan ca n't be excepted. It is bad enough that he is paying XXXX for classes he had XXXX in and was not allowed to finish the semester but the fact the kicked him out right at finals ... is wrong. I am trying to help him and XXXX is trying to resolve this and get a forbearance or something but no one is helping him. In the meantime I am being harassed for being a co-signer and this is not only illegal but beyond stressful. They are emotionally tormenting me, harassing me, stalking me via phone and email. I am a XXXX year old woman and I can not have this kind of XXXX daily. They need to work with my grandson so I can further co-sign but to harass me for signing when he is only a few days late and not DEFAULTING it abusive!!! I ant something done NOW please help us and help me I am too old for this kind of worry, stress and craziness. A co-signer should NOT be Harassed EVER. Notified of the issue yes but stalked via phone and email several times a day ... that is mentally tormenting and stalking me. Sallie Mae needs to be punished for this behavior and in away that will make them think twice before allowing this kind of torment especially to a co-signer. Please help us. Please!!!
Respectfully Yours, XXXX XXXX

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: On or about XXXX XXXX XXXX, my daughter submitted a loan application with Sallie Mae in the amount of $ XXXX to cover the school expenses for her trade school ( XXXX XXXX - XXXX ) that were not otherwise covered through FAFSA. On that same date, I co-sign the loan application and it was submitted back to Sallie Mae for processing.
On XXXX XXXX XXXX, my daughter contacted Sallie Mae and found that her loan application was denied on the basis of the co-signer denial. I went out to the Sallie Mae site and saw the denial without explanation ; so, as instructed by their site, I contacted their Customer Service department ( XXXX XXXX ) and spoke with " XXXX ''. He confirmed the status of the loan application denial, but could not provide an explanation because their " process '' does not allow their Customer Service personnel from viewing said information ( Oddity # 1 ). He did put in a request through their automated system to generate an explanation letter and that I would see it within 24-48 hours.
On XXXX XXXX XXXX, I was notified via email that the loan denial explanation was out on the Sallie Mae site in my account ( I have a previous relationship with them due to co-signing student loans for my son ). I download the explanation letter and it was the standard boiler plate denial letter without a clear reason for denial ... just listed the potential reasons. Since my credit standing is very good at this point, even better than it was when I co-signed loans with them for my son, I was very confused ; so, as instructed in their letter, I contacted their Customer Service department again. Again, the Customer Service representative could not help me, so she patched me through to the Originator Department and I spoke with " XXXX ''. XXXX reviewed the account information ; and, as it was with the Customer Service personnel, he was unable to view the actual reason for the denial and stated that this was the process and policy per their Corporate Headquarters. He did submit a request for a full explanation letter to be sent to me via snail mail and that I would see it within the next 30 days. The problem is that my daughter 's school begins in less than 60 days and I explained I could not wait that long, but he said their was no one else he could refer me to expedite the help request.
I believe the only reason that is causing the hiccup with this loan application is the outstanding $ XXXX in loans I 've co-sign for my son with Sallie Mae, but none of them are delinquent. I state this because my credit is very good, I have no delinquencies and I have a decent income ( $ XXXX ), plus I 'm a veteran and still currently employed by the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( 20 years XXXX XXXX, 16 years XXXX ).
My daughter will be resubmitting her applicable using her grandfather and/or aunt to co-sign for her and those should go through with ease, but I am not satisfied with the multiple layered bureaucracy and the fact that XXXX and XXXX XXXX representatives of Sallie Mae can not assist a customer with a simple task, especially one that could possibly be resolved over the phone.
Sketchy business practices to say the least. Please look into this matter for me.

Can't qualify for a loan
Complaint: I applied for a private student loan through Sallie Mae. I checked out my credit score prior and I am even working with XXXX to make sure my credit is up to date and good. My credit score is good which is XXXX. They did not approve me for a private loan for my XXXX which would mean that I would eventually be making XXXX starting out after getting my degree. I am now making roughly XXXX. I think they discriminated against me because I am a single parent, minority and my age which is XXXX.

Qualify for a better loan than offered
Complaint: After many calls and letters I still am yet to find out the variables used in determining the interest rate Sallie Mae offered. Under truth in lending, there must be some obligation, after receiving all my personal information and processing a loan request, that they provide me with the details as to how the interest rate offered was determined.
With a cosigner XXXX score of XXXXSallie Mae offered XXXX a loan at anywhere from 8.37 % to 10.875 %!! There is nobody at Sallie Mae who can explain how this interest rate that was offered is calculated, just that it 's non negotioable. Then they are guilty of false advertising since they advertise the following rates : Variable interest rates from 2.50 % APR to 9.59 % APR3 Fixed interest rates from 5.74 % APR to 11.85 % APRXXXX If they are offering XXXX a rate only slightly lower than their highest rates available, with a cosigner with an excellent rating that is agreeing if XXXX defaults to be responsible for the loan, than there is something that does n't add up.

Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: I called multiple times to have a graduated repayment plan started. I thought that it had been started when I received a statement the next month for the full amount. I called again a few weeks ago and was told that everything was all set in the system again and I was put on the graduated repayment plan. No such luck. I just received the latest monthly statement with the full amount due.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I obtained several loans through Sallie Mae to help pay for school, XXXX to be exact. The time is coming for repayment, I received a statement of what I would have to pay ( it was an outrageous amount ), so my grandmother kindly helped me and paid for two months, around {$660.00} total. It turns out that Sallie Mae did not apply that amount evenly to all the loans and XXXX of them became outstanding. I have called several times to have this issue fixed and it is STILL outstanding. Now they are lowering my credit score due to this issue that is completely THEIR fault. Additionally, they are also unwilling to work with me for a payment plan that I can actually pay. They also will not stop calling my poor grandmother due to this " outstanding '' loan.
