Complaint: As of XXXX/XXXX/2016 all of my students loans were paid off at Sallie Mae. Currently, I have an overpayment balance of {$1300.00} that Sallie Mae owes me. They do NOT provide an email service to answer questions ... Every time I call I can either not get a person ( only automated ) or I ca n't get through ( put on hold for around 30 minutes twice already ). My interest rate was also sickening on all loans. This company should be shut down for the way they treat people trying to make a better life for themselves.

Complaint: Paid student loans to Sallie Mae ( I 'm co-signer for my son ) - XXXX separate loans beginning XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX began XX/XX/XXXX when I paid the installment payments for the the XXXX loans through my banks bill pay system. Sallie Mae lost XXXX of the checks and asked that the bank send photo copies of issued checks to which my bank said it was unable. Sallie Mae requested the checks be voided and reissued. To avoid the problem repeating itself ( lost checks ) I submitted payment electronically in one lump sum for the XXXX loans whose payments were lost. Between the XXXX check for XXXX of the loans they did receive and the lump sum electronic debit for the XXXX loans whose checks were lost, Sallie Mae applied incorrect amounts to the loans. So they applied larger payment to loan requiring smaller payment and applied the smaller payment to the loan requiring the larger payment. Consequently, XXXX loan shows that I 'm behind and the other that I 'm ahead. I 've have spent hours - approximately over 7 hours with countless customer service reps - each time having to hear how I 'm late and need to pay and no nothing about my situation. I was required to send copies of my bank statements to prove I had paid. I have visited with managers who say that they can not redirect already allocated payments. I continue to receive emails saying my account is past due when it is not. It has been over 3 months now and it is still not resolved.

Complaint: I am the co-signer on my daughters student loan with Sallie Mae. Her loan payment should have been made in XX/XX/XXXX and my daughter was having trouble. She called and called ; they were rude and demanding ; not wanting to listen to her. After about 6 times calling she final was able speak with a manager. They talked on XXXX XXXX, 2016 at XXXX. and the call lasted 24 minutes. They worked out a payment plan that started on XXXX XXXX, 2016 and ends on XXXX XXXX, 2016. Then, they would reexam her finances or continue with that amount and only the date might change. I also spoke with them on XXXX XXXX, 2016 to give them my financial information. We were told that if a payment plan was set then the clock would go back to XXXX and were would not be reported. On Friday XXXX XXXX, 2016, I received a notice from the credit bureau that we was reported on all three of the loans on XXXX XXXX, 2016 and my daughters first payment was due on XXXX XXXX, 2016. If either one of us had been told that the payment needed to be made by XX/XX/XXXX it would have been paid. It seems that Sallie Mae is back doing poor business practice ( predatory practices ) and misleading their customers in order to get late fees and ruin customers credit at the same time. I ask for your assistance in not allowing Sallie Mae to get away with these forms of practices and to have them removed this from both our credit rating. Thank you for your time ; Sincerely yours.

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: We are paying XXXX loans for my daughter - all of which were set up for automatic payment. We recently changed our bank, and had to change the automatic payments. From the Sallie Mae Website, I was unable to change the bank account information, so I called them. After a 10 minute wait, I reached a representative, who informed me that I had to first CANCEL the existing auto withdrawals, wait 3 business days for the cancellation, " wait an additional 3 days to just to be sure '' and then enter the NEW information. This caused us to be past due on XXXX of the XXXX loans ( XXXX did n't get cancelled - not sure if that was my mistake or Sallie Mae ).
As a result, I have received a total of 9 calls from their " robot dialer '' - several on Sunday, when their " customer service '' was not even available. The accounts are now current ( paid today electronically on their web site ) ; but, I still ca n't set up the new automatic payment until the checks actually clear.

Complaint: I was told my Sallie Mae that I had to make account past due and wait for collections to contact me before I could try and change my rate. The only other option I was given was forbearance, which only makes the problem worse. I ca n't pay this loan and have enough money to start my life.

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: Attended the now-shutting down XXXX XXXX in XXXX, CA. During my time as a XXXX, I had a car accident and had to leave before my finale year. Upon returning, my federal loans through XXXX seemingly split with Sallie Mae who was now handling them, but these turned out to be private loans. Now, my grandfather ( who co-signed with me ) are paying my XXXX XXXX private loans month-to-month and XXXX says I do n't have to pay until I find work, which I 'm not finding anywhere across the state of California, and Sallie Mae is calling us daily with robocalls to harass us to pay XXXX different loans at once. Initially Sallie Mae told me they would switch me to Graduate Repayment ( interest only ) but this has not happened, nor has consolidation ( XXXX XXXX also claimed to lower our payments but never did ), and I do n't know what to do. My grandfather is the only one generating income and it 's barely enough for us to keep the house, so we do n't know what to do and it seems like other students both from my school and around the country feel like they are being scammed by Sallie Mae.

I spoke with three different people at Sallie Mae, telling them I was in serious financial difficulty and needed time to gather a prudent reserve to again begin paying them. I told them I fully intend to pay my debt, but needed time to gather enough money to not be so XXXX about making daily fixed expenditure payments. Since that time, they have called repeatedly including calling my sister who has an XXXX and harassing her also. There is absolutely nothing I can do at this time to resolve this and the XXXX pressure is incredible.

Keep getting calls about my loan
Complaint: Sallie Mae is harassing me ( via incessant phone calls ), and sending mail to my cosigner 's address. I 'm asking that said methods of communication cease. I 've written multiple letters to Sallie Mae, each asking for a path to a resolution regarding the issue at hand, and that they stop the harassment and bullying that they routinely participate in. With that being said, Sallie Mae has made zero effort to return my missives in regards to finding a resolution to the issue at hand. I, in addition to my cosigner, receive nonstop phone calls from various Sallie Mae agents, none of whom I have any familiarity with whatsoever. Meaning, every day, multiple people -- people who I 've never spoken to in my life -- call my phone claiming to be my assigned Sallie Mae account agent. But such claims are not accurate : Sallie Mae has failed to provide me with an account agent name and number, therefore I 'm never given access to a 'real ' human whom I can contact to resolve issues. Instead, I 'm at the mercy of Sallie Mae and their slew of nameless, aggressive debt collectors. I 'd like Sallie Mae to return my letters, stop contacting my consigner 's employer, and engage with me in a dialogue that will lead to a timely resolution to the issue at hand. Thank you.

Complaint: I recently had a baby and since then have been struggling to pay one of my Sallie Mae student loans that has an interest rate of 9.5 %. I have repeatedly tried to call and speak with a collection representative to lower my interest rate and possibly my montly payment. Up until this point I have made my student loan payments and on time. I simply can not choose between childcare and supporting my family or paying student loans. Sallie Mae has refused to work with me other than offering forebearence which I plan to use in the future when we have another child.
