Complaint: My complaint with Sallie Mae is my required monthly payment is too expensive. I am required to pay {$1400.00} each month to Sallie Mae. This payment is more than one of my paychecks, and I am struggling to my my other bills and living expenses as a result. I have made one payment so far on XXXX XXXX, XXXX, and I am about to make my payment of XXXX. I have spoken to Sallie Mae representatives on several occasions to lower my monthly payment, but I have been unsuccessful. The representatives stated that there are three options to assist with paying the debt : deferment, forebearance and interest-only payments. I have utilized the first two options and I am not eligible to use the third option. One representative suggested that if I let my payments go into collections, the collections department can work with me. Id rather not allow my payments to go into collections as this will severely damage my credit and future. I was very disappointed that this is the only option they could offer me. I utilized the forbearance for the full 12 months because I was laid off from my job, which resulted in my finances being severely set back.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I have requested several times that all interactions, bills and other changes be sent through the mail and my address has been updated several times online and over the phones. I was set up for XXXX months of auto-payments that I guess ended in XXXX XXXX. But I have never received a single piece of mail, phone call or email about them ending. Sallie Mae has told me my mail is being sent but where is it going? I also provided them with my main email address and phone number and no calls about the auto-payments coming to an end.
I was told I was set up with an account manager who should be calling me but have never received a single call from her about my account. This is the 2nd time I have had issues with payments and no information was sent to me. I moved in XXXX of XXXX and I changed my address online, nowhere did it say that I also had to call and update my address in order for my auto-payments to be taken out. If I update my billing and mailing address online should that not be entered into their system? If not should they not have contacted me by mail, email or through the phone numbers I have provided?
The only reason I have realized something was wrong with my payments was when it was reported to XXXX XXXX and my credit monitoring companies let me know something was wrong. Prior to my credit monitoring companies alerts about an issue Sallie Mae failed to reach out to me in any way.
Once again Sallie Mae says they are mailing my correspondence but I only receive emails saying your Tax information is ready and check your XXXX credit score. That information is not that important when my credit and payment history is being affected because of the lack of communication on the Sallie Mae end. How is it that every month my statement does not make it to my physical mailing address or my email address? But when asked one agent told me I have requested all my information to be sent by mail and another agent told me I had requested all my information to be sent electronically through email?
This issues with my payments and lack of communication on the side of Sallie Mae is causing me issues when it comes to moving forward in my life because they keep dinging my credit every few months.

Problem accessing account
Complaint: The XXXX XXXX XXXX site will not allow me to login to my account. There is an error with the system either timing out while trying to log in or it has an issue with cookies. The site locks you out of your account ( even after allowing you to go through layers of verification- which have to be correct or the system does n't let you proceed ) and there are no protocols in place to unlock the password or account on the weekends.
I am buying a home, and keep my money for appraisal/inspection/insurance in this account. I will now be unable to access the account to set up a transfer in any capacity until Tuesday, potentially causing my student loan payments to now bounce since I 'm on auto pay and and was assuming I could ... You know, access the money in my account to help cover the XXXX $ appraisal I went ahead and paid for.
No way to access to my account or money for three days or a bank with no physical presence being closed for that long should be illegal.

Complaint: I want Sallie Mae to stop calling family members, friends, ex husband and ex boyfriends ( people who dont have anything in relation to this loan and matter ) to put pressure on me start paying them. I am constantly calling Sallie Mae, last call I made was XX/XX/XXXX to find a way to have an agreement between us and make reasonable payments for my loans. I keep communication with them but they keep calling other people and its causing me huge problems with my husband and with them as well b cause they want to get these phone calls from Sallie Mae since they have nothing to do with me anymore. In XX/XX/XXXX I had a big argument with my case manager and warned her not to call other people who know me just to pressure and pay I told her I wasnt recording her and that whatever they are doing IS ILLEGAL and she apologized and told me they wont do that again, my husband and I got separated for that reason because a few of ex boyfriends and ex husband kept coaling me for that matter. Its getting out of hand. However, they did it again on XX/XX/XXXX. These people called me asking to tell XXXX XXXX not to call them. I dont know how to make them stop. I keep contact with them at least twice a month and they have evidence of that in their recordings. This is destroying my marriage and i urgently need help to make them stop calling people who are not in the loan and are not even related to me. Please help me. Complaint: I took this private loan out in 2013 to cover costs that my financial aid and student loans wouldnt cover. I submitted a deferment/forbearance request mid last year since i have been having these loans deferred since 2013 and after speaking with the agency they told me that they didnt receive it. So, they offered me a lump sum amount to pay off which i could not afford and a monthly payment which i also could not afford. So now the loans were sent to another agency and is in collection and has lowered my credit score due to derogatory marks on my credit. I need some help on what to do. Thank you.

Complaint: I have been making student loan payments for months until I become unemployed. Even while I was employed, I asked to lower my payment of {$1000.00} a month and I was denied.
I felt lied to because while I was applying for the student loan, they said there are income based payment options. No one worked with me about that.
So I continued to make $ XXXX payments until become unemployed on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX.
I initiated the call and explained them that I lost my job and asked for some time until I find a job and continue making my payments.
Every time I told them I am unemployed and have no money to pay them, they kept calling weekly. Constantly harassing and threatening. Some weeks they called more than once the same week even I spoken to an agent 2 days prior.
Called me non-stop, kept calling and bothering my mother which she got very frustrated because she could n't understand exactly what they were saying due to English being her second language.
All I wanted from them is to stop harassing me and give me time until I find a job.
Instead, they kept threatening me with default and possible legal action.
I am on the verge of XXXX, and I need a way out and/or some one who can help me make arrangements with them.
My credit score went from being very good to very bad in a matter of couple of months.

Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, 2017 I gave XXXX and this was unable to work at the time until I resumed work two months later. I had spoke to sallie Mae informing them on the matter that I am on XXXX leave and unable to make payments at the time. They stated not to worry and that I will be placed on a deferment. I never received any emails or phone calls until about the second week of XX/XX/XXXX constantly giving me phone calls and I didnt get paid my first paycheck until XX/XX/XXXX. I then spoke with sallie Mae again saying I can enroll back in auto debit and then I made a payment and XXXX from sallie Mae told me my account was current and that if I make a payment it wont be reported to XXXX or affect my credit score. I received an email saying it did and I am very flustered because Ive been working very hard to improve my credit score as you can see all my accounts are in good standing. I would like to purchase a home in the near future so please help me in removing this error. I am currently working full time and am ready to make payments again. Just because I had a XXXX doesnt mean I should get punished.

Complaint: In XXXX we paid college loan amounts on our son and daughter to XXXX for {$79000.00} and Sallie Mae for {$26000.00} This is {$100000.00} dollars with probably XXXX or XXXX as much in late fees and interest. It took all of our savings. My daughter had some left {$20000.00} left that we could not pay and they are coming after her with late fees and wants {$250.00} a month and said she was in default. She has struggled to find a job in her field and the money she has made goes to her living expenses. This is not fair. At this point we wished we would never of even sent them to college. We raised good kids and to send them to college should not of taken all of our savings and caused her this much stress. I see people doing better that do nothing and live on welfare. We definitely picked the wrong loan company but do n't know what to do now. It has ruined us and now we have to worry about this all over again. She has government loans she is paying back but they are willing to work with her. Sallie Mae is not.

Complaint: Back in XXXX, I attempted to make my first payment to Sallie Mae, it was almost {$600.00} on top of my other student loan payment of over {$600.00} to XXXX. I tried to figure out a way to pay both sets of student loan bills on top of my other bills ( car, gas, insurance, etc. ) I was able to consolidate my XXXX payments but Sallie Mae told me they could not help me. They told me my only options were forbearance, delinquency, or bankruptcy. I asked if there was any way they could lower my payments and again, my only options were forbearance, delinquency, or bankruptcy. I chose forbearance until I could figure out a solution. My forbearance ran from XXXX through XXXX, which I was required to pay $ XXXX loan as a good faith payment for a total of {$150.00}. I was instructed to call back at the end of XXXX to extend my forbearance. I was limited to one year and I could extend in 1, 2 or 3 month increments. I called back on Thursday, XXXX XXXX and the representative asked me why I was filing for forbearance. I simply replied that I could not afford the payment. She asked me a series of questions and I told her that my income, as a XXXX XXXX XXXX could not support me enough to be able to pay the {$600.00} / month. She gave me attitude and asked me if I looked into a 3rd party income driven repayment plan. So I went and looked into it. On Friday, XXXX XXXX, I applied for it and noticed that it went to my XXXX loans and not my Sallie Mae. I contacted the federal student aid services, ( that 's who I filed my income driven payment application through ) and they informed me that I needed to contact Sallie Mae and fill out a paper application to send to them or input into their system. So I contacted Sallie Mae and the girl informed me that I needed to contact the Federal Student aid people and see if they could just send over my application or call XXXX and see if they could forward it to Sallie Mae. So I called XXXX and the very nice representative informed me that Sallie Mae is strictly private loans now and my Income driven application would not even be applied to those loans. At this point, I was irate. I called Sallie Mae back and was given the run around. Never once did someone at Sallie Mae tell me that my income driven application would n't be valid for private loans. Over a span of 40 minutes, I talked to customer service representatives who told me my only options were were forbearance, delinquency, or bankruptcy. I asked to speak to a supervisor and again he told me he could n't help me and my only options were forbearance, delinquency, or bankruptcy. The supervisor said he does n't work with collections when it comes to payments and that they could transfer me to collections and see what they could do. They told me to call back the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX of next month to see what they could do for me. I asked to be transferred to collections. Now, at this point, I have explained my situation 6 different times to representatives at Sallie Mae over the course of 2 days. As soon as I told the collections agent, the first thing he said was, this sounds like a customer service issue. I said oh no, they told me it 's a collections issue. So the collections representative from Sallie Mae explained that because I did forbearance for 3 months, I would need to wait till XXXX XXXX to call back, with the stipulation that I do n't make my payment for the month of XXXX so I go into delinquency. I explained over and over and over again that I do n't miss payments and that I did not want this to hurt my credit score. They assured me it would n't hurt my credit score and that the collections reps at Sallie Mae should be able to help me lower my payment. I am trying to be proactive and get ahead of this but Sallie Mae is not making this easy for me. The only reason my father cosigned my loan was because they wanted to give me some outrageous interest rate if I did n't have my father cosign. Even when I applied for the loan, I felt discriminated against because my loan disbursement and interest rate was based off amount of income my parents generated which I do n't think is appropriate since I am the one paying my loan off, not them. I am trying to pay my loan, that is both reasonable and affordable. I am sick of getting the same, ridiculous excuses. They had no problem giving me a loan with interest rates all over the place but now they expect me to pay back loans that I can not afford with my salary. I ca n't even live on my own, I have to live with my parents because my income does not allow me to support myself and pay my student loans. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX, I am not making anywhere near six figures.

Complaint: My mom applied for student loans from Sallie Mae when I started college in XX/XX/XXXX. I had no idea how to address paying for college or what applying for a loan entailed, so she took care of that. I just graduated in XX/XX/XXXX and my loans are about to be in repayment. I was just handed my password to the account and saw that interest has been acquiring the whole time on twelve different student loans. I have called Sallie Mae on multiple occasions asking if I can consolidate my 12 student loans or if they had any income driven repayment programs. They repeatedly informed me that neither were possible and that I should try reaching out to my cosigner. They keep encouraging forbearance, but that is only going to be a short-term fix. They want me to pay over {$1500.00} a month and I only make XXXX a year. The interest rates on my TWELVE different loans range from 9 % to 11 %. They are offering no realistic options and I ca n't afford any of the options that they are giving me.
They are the most unhelpful company I have ever encountered and I am going through a financial hardship because of them and their lack of help.
