Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: I have a personal school loan in the amount of {$36000.00} with Sallie Mae. Sallie Mae has charged me late fees because i have been latte with payments because I am not able to make the current payments. Sallie Mae has never contacted me directly. They have only called my co-signer with an automatied system. Because of Sallie Mae negligence. Sallie Mae reported my loans to the credit reporting companies as defaulting. So now they have ruined my credit rating and my co-signers.

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: When my loan started to become due. I told sallie mae that I am not able to pay the loan at this time because I was not making enough money to pay it back. Sallie Mae at did offer me a reduced payment plan. They had me put the loans in forbearance. But being that I was past my due date they could do the forbearance for the past month I missed. And if I needed to put in forberance again I needed to call before the next due date. By doing the forbearance the loan amount went up. Sallie Mae never called me directly to let me know that I was behind in payment. They would call my co-signer but never called me directly. I approached sallie mae to get a lower payment. The deal they offered me was not acceptable. Sallie Mae offered to lower my interest rate only two years. And after would be back to a varible rate that i have know Idea what it would be. And being that they were lowering the payment because of the interest rate. They added five more to my loan. I also offered to settle the loan with a buyout amount. Sallie Mae said they would take nothing less then 90 % of the loan.

Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Complaint: I have called three separate times and spoke with a representative to gain access to my monthly statements and other official communication. All three representatives promised to mail statements to my email, I have received none. Also, I wanted a formal ticket into my lack of access to records to be opened, with no resolution noted.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: This applies to both Private and Public loan service providers and is partly due to a significant gap in 34 CFR 685.204 concerning In-School Deferment and the National Student Loan Data System. Per 34 CFR 685.204, ( b ) ( 2 ) ( iv ), Student Loan custodians MUST process in-school deferments when they verify a borrower 's half-time enrollment status. First and foremost, this section should be amended such that the Student Loan originator MUST NOTIFY the borrower of their updated information and eligibility for In-School Deferment. At a minimum, the statute should include a mandatory notification to the borrower that they have been placed into In-School Deferment. I will now present an example of how the current process is predatory in nature : Educated borrower has graduated and begun making payments. They sign up for automatic bill pay with each Student Loan Originator and begin to pay down their debt. Years later, they decide to re-enroll to pursue a XXXX XXXX XXXX. They do not take out any additional loans. Unbeknownst to the borrower, the school supplies the borrower 's information to the National Student Loan Data System ( and possibly the National Student Clearinghouse ). The Student Loan Originator receives this information and as required by 34 CFR 685.204, ( b ) ( 2 ) ( iv ), moves the borrower into In-School Deferment. The Student Loan Originator has no requirement to inform the borrow of this transaction. While in deferment, minimum payments drop to {$0.00}, so no further payments are made. For borrowers with unsubsidized loans, their interest continues to build, with payments no longer coming in. So, through no action of the borrower and no notification to the borrower, the Student Loan Originator has increased the overall cost of the loan to the borrower, by a difference of potentially thousands of dollars. This is a predatory action. Any and all activity into and out of deferment should require written documentation and notification to the borrower. Additionally, Student Loan Originators should not be required to AUTOMATICALLY move borrowers into In-School Deferment. The action should instead be to notify the borrower to request permission to move their loan status to In-School Deferment.

Complaint: I had to go on long term XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX. I called Sallie Mae asking for different payment arrangements fur to me not working. Sallie Mae would not work with me or offer me any type of forbearance in which I did n't have to pay a fee. They call me relentlessly and my family and I have reached out to Sallie Mae calling them back and they offer no options for someone like me on lomg term XXXX. The last person I talked to threatened my account would eventually be taken to court for XXXX. I asked him why XXXX was willing to work with me ( another private loan I have XXXX and why they wo n't. He said there are no other options available for me and he will keep my account in collections. So I asked if he was going to quit calling my extended family and myself relentlessly since he does n't have any options for me and he said no. They call my extended family and myself at least XXXX times a day and when I answer they do n't help me. The fourth time I called Sallie Mae the lady I talked to asked if I had a friend that could pay my past due amount of XXXX. This company has been harassing me when I have told them I can not afford payments at this time and they offer no resolution when they do harass me. Before my XXXX I made each Sallie Mae payment on time.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Sallie Mae XXXX XXXX taken on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX - {$18000.00} balance as of XXXX/XXXX/XXXX Loan taken on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX - {$15000.00} balance as of XXXX/XXXX/XXXX Loan taken on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX - {$16000.00} balance as of XXXX/XXXX/XXXX Loan taken on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX - {$16000.00} balance as of XXXX/XXXX/XXXX I feel that Sallie Mae, along with their partner XXXX routinely engage in unfair, deceptive, and illegal practices I am the primary borrower and my mother is the co-signer. We strongly feel that Sallie Mae mis-represented themselves and had us believe that they were a federal student loan servicer and at the end of graduation, we find out that all of my son 's Sallie Mae loans were private which leaves us in terrible debt along with other federal loans that he also has to pay.
We are currently in forbearance that will end in early XXXX. According to Sallie Mae, you are put in delinquency after the forbearance period if you can not start paying your regularly scheduled amounts. This is just horrendous not only for me who literally do not make enough in my first job out of college to be able to pay these loans back, but for my parent as well.
I am also currently also paying other loans. I need Sallie Mae to work with me according to what my currently salary so I can at least start paying back what I can afford to pay back. I 've been told my Sallie Mae that I literally have to be delinquent first, which will ultimately affect my credit, as I 'm just starting out in the corporate world. What are my chances of success if I have to stress so about this currently situation. This is really tough and unfair and clearly I was completely taken off guard when I found out these were all private loans when all along we thought they were federal and under XXXX.
We need alot of help with this student loan crisis which not only affects me, but includes millions of other young people.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I have signed up for recurring payments with Sallie Mae 3 times in the past 6 months with their 3 month automatic payment plan. I contacted them XX/XX/XXXX after 3 payments were to have been taken out of my account ( XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX ) and they said the XX/XX/XXXX payment had gone thru but the payment for XXXX had not. I contacted then again shortly after and they said none of the previous payment had gone thru so my account was delinquent. When I inquired the customer service rep they said my account was delinquent and the only way to get it current was to sign up for automatic payments which I did on XX/XX/XXXX again. When the payment scheduled for XX/XX/XXXX was not debited I contacted the customer service department again. They said My account was delinquent once again and that My only way to bring it current was to sign up for automatic payments. The next payment was debited on XX/XX/XXXX which only was debited from my account because I made the payment not because it was automatically taken from my account as it was supposed to be. During this ordeal my credit score has suffered, and received negative marks due to Sallie Mae 's inability to keep up with my payments.

Problem with customer service
Complaint: Sallie Mae harassment 1- All of my student loans ( federal and private loans ) have been consolidated a year ago and now belong to XXXX XXXX. Consolidated all in one, instead of dealing with multiple lenders and multiple federal loan servicers.
2- In addition, i am unable to make any payments at this time due to unemployment. I have been in forbearance with XXXX XXXX for the past few months, and XXXX XXXX has been very understanding and helpful in this time of extreme financial hardship.
3- Any loan which i had with Sallie Mae was consolidated, therefore i do n't understand why sallie mae is harassing me. To give a fee examples, On Saturday XXXX/XXXX/2017 I received a call from Sallie Mae at XXXX XXXX. I have phone records to prove this phone call.
In addition, i received a call from my former employer saying that " Sallie Mae is looking for you and they repeatedly call here ''.

Was not notified of investigation status or results
Complaint: I have initiated an investigation into a fraudulent student loan taken out under my name and have given Sallie Mae/XXXX enough information as well as new information to come to the obvious conclusion that this loan was taken out without my knowledge or consent ; that the body of the loan belonged to my late father XXXX XXXX. I did defer the loan more than once and contacted an attorney to devise a course of action. A letter was sent by XXXX XXXX XXXX who is a Elder Law/Estate Attorney in RI and has worked on my late father 's estate and under the advice of the Executor XXXX XXXX XXXX that this loan was taken out without my knowledge. In good faith, I did pay some of the loan because I was advised by said attorney to do so. XXXX XXXX ONLY wrote XXXX letter and made XXXX phone call to the XXXX XXXX XXXX office, in which they told him that because the name matches the borrower, then the loan belonged to me. XXXX XXXX has been released. My mother XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and I called the Sallie Mae office. The representatives stated that they could no longer speak to me because I had representation and gave me a phone number for said attorney that does n't exist. ( XXXX ) I filed a complaint with the FTC, the Department of Education and the XXXX Police because my Identity was stolen by my father and documents were falsified to obtain money to pay for my education. Furthermore, I have also been referenced as a mortgage holder by the Law Firm XXXX XXXX XXXX now know as XXXX XXXX XXXX being addressed to The Spouse of XXXX XXXX ''. This letter was in reference to the foreclosure of the property XXXX my former home ) XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX RI, which I have no legal link. However, I was referenced on the Sallie Mae loan as being married under my information and that any additional income was from my spouse. I am not married and never have been married. The additional income is in reference to my late fathers wife XXXX XXXX XXXX and again, she is also the Executor of his estate. There is no other link to my being referenced as " married '' but in the body of the Sallie Mae/Navient loan.
Pay stubs have been submitted showing and will prove that I never worked at XXXX XXXX in XXXX, and never made {$100000.00}. In addition I will enclosed proof that my late father worked for XXXX XXXX and never worked for a company listed as XXXX XXXX. My father referenced myself as being married and not he. Also enclosed was a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX my XXXX XXXX which states that she also never knew about this loan and was listed in the loan as a reference.
I was informed from a Sallie MaeXXXX XXXX representative, XXXX XXXX that the burden of proof that I didnt know was on me. However, considering that this document was obviously falsified ( which is a crime ) and that Sallie MaeXXXX approved a loan that was obviously false leads me to believe that the burden falls on Sallie MaeXXXX to prove that I did know about where the funds for my education came from. That Sallie Mae/XXXX approved on their own an obvious illegal document. My late father XXXX XXXX took care of the finances and so did his wife XXXX XXXX XXXX because she co-signed a loan from XXXX XXXX. I was told before my father passed that I was responsible for ONLY the payment on the last semester of my time at XXXX XXXX and XXXX other loan which XXXX XXXX co signed and I have done so.
Based on my investigation, I have advised Sallie MaeXXXX that this loan was applied for by my late father, XXXX XXXX XXXX and because of Sallie MaeXXXX XXXX XXXX rules he put me down as the borrower, there was no other option. This loan was obviously his. At this point in time, Sallie MaeXXXX has failed to filed a claim against my late father 's estate ( which is still open ), they also insisted after the XXXX day time frame ( when we called again ) that a letter was sent to the XXXX XXXX of XXXX XXXX of RI regarding the response to our opposition. In the body of the original document sent, we stated that the attorney was released. I have yet to get a confirmation that that was the case because the attorney refuses to acknowledge that he received the letter.
My XXXX XXXX has been adversely effected after I spoke to the Sallie Mae/XXXX representatives and I was told that a freeze was to occur until the investigation was concluded. They keep emailing me stating that I 'm missing payments. All three credit bureau have been notified of the situation ( and will be notified again XXXX. Sallie Mae received an email from XXXX or more reporting agencies that the stated loan is not mine. As I have stated before, I have sent Sallie Mae/XXXX additional documents to prove this to be the case.
In conclusion, I need Sallie Mae to admit negligence, that they approved a fraudulent and illegal document willingly, that they reverse any disparing marks on my credit reports, that they acknowledge that although the money went to my education, the true owner was my late father ( he insisted that I be kept out of the details of my education 's funding ) and because he passed, it should be forgiven. I am also insisting that monies sent to Sallie Mae/XXXX be refunded and that they file for damages against the estate of XXXX XXXX through the XXXX. I can not be held accountable for the actions of my late father.

Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Complaint: My daughter wants me co-sign on her loan. I read through the documentation and can not find a clause where it states there is no prepayment penalty, ( since I do n't want to pay 8 % for 15 years ). I called Sallie Mae and both an employee and manager told me that they do n't have it written anywhere. It 's implied. Well I do n't think that is legal. In every bank I ever dealt with there is always a disclosure statement that tells you the rates and rules of the loan. I find it hard to believe that Sallie Mae does n't do this and no one has ever brought it to their attention. My concern is that I would like to see it in writing that there is no prepayment penalty before I sign the loan. Thank you for looking into this matter.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX Sallie Mae accepted a forbearance payment of {$37.00}.
" XXXX Paid XX/XX/XXXX XXXX Borrower '' This is the forbearance notice. No where did it indicate that a payment becoming due had to be paid, as Sallie Mae allows payments up to a week later with no penalty. It is misleading to not include information that the very first payment due under the loan was NOT part of the forbearance. Obviously, the request for forbearance was filed long before the payment was due.
XX/XX/XXXX Dear XXXX XXXX : We 're pleased to let you know that the request for forbearance on your education loan listed above has been approved. We understand that circumstances can change, so we 're happy we were able to offer an alternative solution that allows you to temporarily postpone your payments.
Your forbearance period is XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX.
Forbearance requires a payment of {$50.00} per loan, not to exceed a total of {$150.00} per forbearance request. If you 're postponing payments for more than one loan, the total payment will be divided equally across your loans and applied to the Current Balance of each loan.
The documents supporting the above data is available if it can not be attached to this complaint. It is also unfair for Sallie Mae to not release to the co-signer the details of the forbearance and how it would affect the first payment due under the loan subsequent to the student ( my XXXX ) graduating.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I have been patiently dealing with aggressive business tactics from an unorganized company named Sallie Mae. I have been actively trying to find some type of resolve because sallie mae constantly calls my phone, as well as my co signer ' phones, so much so that it feels like harassment. I graduated a year ago in XX/XX/XXXX 2016 and when the time came for me to start paying my loans back I was being asked to pay over {$800.00} dollars a month which was completely impossible for me because I was fresh out of college working for $ 9-10 an hour at local retail businesses. I had to request forebarence until I could figure out a better repayment option. This became a trend because sallie mae refuses to lower my payments. I tell them I am not able to pay over {$800.00} a month and they ask for my co-signer. I told them multiple times my co-signer could only help a little bit and yet they still keep trying to force me to make these absurd payments. This has gone on for too long now and it seems like the situation is getting worse. Most recently, I tried to get an income driven repayment plan and somehow that made my monthly payment go up to over {$900.00} a month. I am living at home with family and I am not able to afford even half of this and I voice this concern quite frequently yet it goes ignored. I have had multiple issues with their employees over the phone. One example being when I requested another forbearance, the associate entered my card information incorrectly when taking the payment for {$150.00}. This caused an error in the process because their system and staff understood this mistake as me not having enough money in my account. This error also caused a negative action to my co-signer 's credit. It was discovered via recorded phone conversations that the mistake was actually made by the sallie mae employee. Sallie mae never contacted us and made us aware of what was going on. After a few days went by and I had not heard anything back I had to call sallie mae. When I called, I was infromed they concluded the mistake was made on their end. They were also supposed to be fixing my co-signer 's credit report and they did not inform us of any of that information either. We had to periodically call to receive updates. When it 's time to make a payment I receive at least 3-5 calls a day from sallie mae representatives, but when they make an error that negatively effects my loan status as well as my co-signer credit report we do n't hear from them for days? This is just one frustrating example out of the many ; all which can be proven via notes, and phone recordings in their system. I fear I may have to take legal action against sallie mae soon if the manner in which they do business does not change.
