Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Medical debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I received an alert that there was some activity on my credit report. I investigated to find out that a new collections account had been opened by XXXX XXXX XXXX. I XXXX the company and obtained their contact information. I contacted them at ( XXXX ) XXXX to discuss the matter. I was informed they were attempting to collect an outstanding debt of {$510.00} for XXXX XXXX XXXX for Date of Service XX/XX/XXXX. I informed them this debt was paid in full in XX/XX/XXXX after 12-13 months of dealing with several insurance companies and my workplace. They informed me this date was outstanding. I stated they could send the information to my home if that was in fact true and terminated the call. I received no such documentation to date. I then began calling several agencies to determine what insurance company handled the claim. XXXX XXXX, who was my health insurer at the time, informed me that the claim was deferred to my auto insurance company XXXX XXXX. I called and spoke with XXXX XXXX and was told someone would return my call within 24 hours. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a call from XXXX XXXX stating that the claim for XXXX XXXX XXXX, which totaled {$990.00}, was paid. I have been unsuccessful in speaking with XXXX XXXX XXXX. When I called the creditor and requested the contact information for XXXX XXXX XXXX I was transferred to a supervisor who stated that the bill was bought out by XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was provided with the number of ( XXXX ) XXXX. I called XXXX customer support and spoke with XXXX who stated that the bill was sold to XXXX and it is outstanding and that any information I had must go through XXXX XXXX XXXX. My complaint is that this bill has been paid for at least 2 years, and now a company with a rich history of attempting to collect on paid bills ( only for the payee to later find their credit card number was stolen ) is continuing said practice causing undue hardships on payees to have to put in all this work for something that has since been handled.

Written notification about debt

Debt collection: Credit card debt

Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Complaint: On XX/XX/18, I received a communication from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in an attempt to recover a debt on behalf of original creditor, XXXX XXXX. Contents of letter indicated they were offering to settle the debt at 35 % of balance owed over the course of 24 months. I called the office notated on the letter to offer to pay the settlement offer outlined, in full, via bank check, provided they send over a letter, on company letterhead, outlining the following : 1. Verification of debt 2. Verification of authorization to collect debt on behalf of XXXX XXXX 3. Terms of settlement offer 4. Next steps for discharging debt/judgement with XXXX XXXX attorneys ( Satisfaction of Judgement ) The original call center rep, XXXX XXXX, attempted to collect information irrelevant to the settlement offer I was agreeing to pay in full today, such as employment information, why I was in debt, what I am doing to prevent it, as well as information to secure a post dated check from me, or bank routing details. I further confirmed that I will await settlement terms above in writing, and upon receipt, will send full settlement offer via Bank check. They seemed unwilling to entertain any conversation that did not entail passing them my personal banking information. After conceding to sending the above letter to me via overnight mail, she put me on hold to verify with her floor supervisor, XXXX (? ), who then took the line and proceeded to argue that they would not verify in writing that they are authorized to collect debt or authorize settlement. After further escalation to his supervisor, whose name I did not catch, I was told the same, argued with, and essentially prevented from paying the outstanding debt if I would not do so without written verification of settlement terms and verification of authorization of their agency to collect. I was told to contact XXXX XXXX and figure it out myself. Further, this agency has contacted various parties outside of myself in attempt to collect debt, and without the above verification, I have requested they cease and desist and further communication, via any channels. I then contacted XXXX XXXX to discuss alternate means of settling said debt directly. They opened an internal inquiry/complaint against XXXX XXXX, as they are their contracted firm, and will be outlining to this agency that they are to follow the request I have made in order to settle the debt, as it is reasonable and to the letter of the law, and will alternately consider leveraging a different third party collection agency to settle said debt on their behalf.

Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Medical debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: There was a collection account reporting on my credit file with XXXX XXXX XXXX account number XXXX. I contacted the company and agreed to settle the debt. I spoke with the Floor Manager XXXX XXXX and he was the one that approved the settlement. Once I completed the payments they were suppose to zero out the remaining balance and remove it from my credit report, because again it was a settlement agreement. I watch my credit through a credit monitoring site and when I checked to make sure the account was reporting properly I was floored to see that what they did was take the money they agreed to settle the account and actually just applied it to the balance. On XX/XX/2018 I called the company ( XXXX ) XXXX and was transferred several times before I was able to speak with XXXX XXXX again the Floor Manager, at first he too seemed confused and said that there was money still owed. He did finally remember the agreement and said that the accounts were settled and that he would send me a letter showing they were settled with no money owed and that they would delete them from the credit report. I still have not received that letter nor has it been removed off my credit report.

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Account information incorrect
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I sent a letter to XXXX XXXX XXXX regarding a charged off credit card account that I had with them. I asked them to verify the debt and stated that upon verification I would be happy to settle the account if in fact the status and amount owed were correct. They never verified the account. Instead I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX dated XX/XX/XXXX offering a settlement of the account for {$270.00} of the supposed {$410.00} owed. At the time I did not take the offer because XXXX XXXX never verified the accounts validity. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a phone call at my parents house ( still not sure how they got their number as I never provided it but am a XXXX ) stating that they wanted payment of {$330.00} to resolve the account right then. I asked if I paid this amount would they delete the account from my credit report and they stated no but that it would update as settled to the credit bureaus. I took them up on the offer because I wanted to be done with this company and my wife and I are trying to improve credit scores to build a house. Upon checking my credit report in XX/XX/XXXX they did update the information however it still shows as charged off and reflects a balance still of {$83.00}.

Complaint: I received a debt collection bill from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount fo {$2300.00}. Per the state for Florida Statute 95.11 in regards to private loan debt collection, the statute of limitations has expired for this debt s the original loan was taken out on XX/XX/XXXX. Written notification about debt

Debt collection: Auto debt

Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Complaint: I have vehicle lease account with XXXX XXXX XXXX that was properly paid for and closed on XX/XX/XXXX. As I changed address after the account was closed, I did NOt receive any further communication from XXXX. But, I get a call from a credit collection agency, XXXX XXXX XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX regarding a debt to XXXX. I requested a written notification, which they sent me on my new address. The bill was for : excessive wears and tears and a purported missing key for a total amount of {$700.00}. I contacted XXXX and disputed the missing key. XXXX told me the account was closed and that the additional debt was sold to the credit collection agency ; therefore I had to work it out with the collector. I contacted the collector over the phone and we agreed on the amount of {$490.00} to settle the debt. However, until now the original account is still appearing as " open '' with XXXX, with a debt of {$210.00}. I have been disputing that over the last 3 years, but XXXX keeps telling me that this is what XXXX reports to them. Each time I contacted XXXX at XXXX to request that they either : 1 ) report the account as " closed '' or 2 ) send me a bill in the mail with payment instructions. But, each time the department refused to do so nor will they provide the phone number of the department to contact. All, the tell me is to write to their collection department, which does NOT have a phone number! Worse, the phone number ( XXXX ) listed on the credit report does NOT belong to XXXX.
