Closing your account

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Can't close your account
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I called Chase to close all three of my credit card accounts. The balance was already XXXX on two of the accounts. On XX/XX/XXXX, I made the payment of XXXX to close the third account. I called Chase to process the payment of XXXX for the third account and request Chase close all three of the accounts. The Chase operator spent significant time talking me out of closing the accounts, with a specific focus on keeping the one which I was making the final payment on open. I was clear and stated that I wanted all three of the accounts closed and ensured that the XXXX would close all the counts. After much conversation back and forth Chase verbally agreed and confirmed closing the accounts. Chase also confirmed that the account was closed and that there were no additional fees or interest charges to the account. On XX/XX/2019 I received a late notice for the Chase account which I had made the XXXX payment, plus Chase had added additional fees. The overdue amount was for an interest fee charge of XXXX cents, and the late fee was XXXX. I have paid the XXXX cents. I am concerned that Chase did not close my accounts when asked, and that they went to such effort to keep them open despite my repeated requests. My efforts to close my accounts, now that they were settled, were met with opposition at every level resulting in them not actually being closed. I would like all my Chase accounts to remain closed, and to not accrue any additional fees for them.

Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: This dispute has been going on for almost 2 months originally filed with CHASE XX/XX/19. I have spoken to XXXX who is the vendor for the charge and they stated they did not charge me, and I have confirmation of this on XX/XX/19. I have physically sent Chase explanations and correspondence emails from XXXX confirming they did not charge me. I have provided documentation online on the CASE .Com website as well as several calls to both BOTH Chase and XXXX . I have called and spoke to several reps on several occasions to complete any additional questions they had, and mailed in the information. They have closed and reopened new disputes and have again closed the dispute. I do not have anything to show or ah confirmation of this charge, and neither does the merchant XXXX from this charge other than the hassle of having to contact you to clear it. I have been a Chase customer for over 18 years and this is totally unacceptable to be charged {$420.00} and they are not resolving it.

Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Mortgage: Conventional home mortgage

Complaint: I made loan application online for a cash-out refinance with my present mortgage company. I submitted all the information Chase requested and received " conditional approval ''. Chase requested {$500.00} to proceed and they received the money. A day or so later my Loan Adviser called to discuss the Underwriter reply. I needed to pay off some of my debt with the new mortgage. I told the Loan Adviser, " NO ''. We talked a little longer and he suggested again that I increase my mortgage by {$60000.00} not the {$25000.00} I requested, I told the loan adviser that I would only consider 2 debts that I would pay off. The loan adviser would discuss with the Underwriter and he thought that would work. Loan Adviser went on vacation. A different Loan Adviser called to discuss paying off the debt again but now increasing it to {$75000.00} more. Once again I said, " NO '', I would only pay off 2 debts and not interested in increasing my Mortgage any higher than what I have requested. The insistence on me to increase my mortgage loan amount made me feel intimidated and I knew after this phone call that my loan would be denied because I refused to increase the loan amount. The second loan adviser never called back. Three days later, in the mail, I received a " counter Offer letter '' from Chase with the same terms I had requested. In the envelope was also a letter " Congratulations on Loan Approval '' I was confused and tried to contact the Loan Adviser or anyone else at Chase to discuss the letters. After waiting for a week, I contacted the Title Company and was told they had just received the request for title from Chase. The title company was not asked to pay any of my debts and the loan amount was the initial amount I had requested. I figured everything was worked out and we would be closing the loan this week. A couple of hours later, I received a call from my original, loan adviser, " let 's see what you can pay off to get this loan? '' I got upset and told him about the letters. He didn't understand what happened and transferred me to a Supervisor. The Supervisor told me he could see the letters and did not understand why they sent the letters. The loan problem according to the Supervisor was different than anything I had been discussing with the Loan adviser. We discussed this new problem and he was going to check further into it. A couple of days went by and I received a message from the Supervisor saying he thought it was worked out and my Adviser would be calling me to discuss. The Adviser called and again the conversation went to I had to pay off debt with a higher mortgage amount. So for the 4th time I said " NO ''. My finances have not changed since I first started this process ; however, Chase 's terms have changed. I gave Chase everything they asked for within a day, I paid in good faith the {$500.00} for the prepaid expenses, I was given " Conditional approval '' which I thought was due to the need of the Appraisal. The Appraisal came in with the value needed. I received " Congratulations on receiving the loan '' and now I feel that I am being " bullied '' into taking out a higher mortgage loan amount that I have repeatedly refused. I work with mortgage companies daily basis and have not had this bad of a situation with a mortgage company in years. Normally, a mortgage company would not spend any of the client 's money until the last step and loan approval pending the appraisal. I feel like Chase has stolen from me and tried to bully me into a new mortgage at a higher amount and higher interest rate to benefit them. I am attaching a copy of the " approval '' letter. Thanks for your consideration.

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: Virtual currency

Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I noticed that there were two unauthorized transactions that had been processed on two of my checking accounts. One was for {$1300.00} ( claim # : XXXX ) processed XX/XX/2019 and the other was for {$1300.00} ( claim # : XXXX ) processed XX/XX/2019. Both through XXXX XXXX, both to the same person. I immediately called Chase and reported the unauthorized transactions, which in turn created two different claims being filed. On XX/XX/2019, all 9 accounts that I was on were closed and reopened. My online access username was changed as well as my password. Also on XX/XX/2019, I worked with my IT department and received a new work computer so they could erase the old, should that have been a security concern. On XX/XX/2019 one of the checking accounts received a temporary credit for {$1300.00}, however, the other did not. Today, XX/XX/2019, I was told by Chase that the claim for {$1300.00} was denied, due to consistent activity from the same IP address. However, the IP address that Chase provided does not match any IP addresses for any device or computer that I use. They told me that I could fax proof that it was not me, however, will not explain to me what information I need to provide. I called our local Chase branch that helped us when we had to close and open the new accounts and she informed me that when she talked to the " back office '' fraud department our information that they told her that even if I provided my device & computer IP addresses, that didn't mean that it wasn't me. She told me she didn't know what else she could do for me. My husband is a XXXX XXXX with the XXXX XXXX XXXX and has contacted our financial crimes unit to open a case. We also have the persons name and phone number that it was transferred to, however, he says that he is only 17 and didn't know why the money was put in his account, but gave his " address '' and his fathers " phone number ''. However, once my husband realized he was 17 he quit talking to him. My husband attempted to contact the fathers phone number but no answer.

Problem with customer service
Complaint: This is an ongoing situation with complaint # XXXX and complaint # XXXX. On XX/XX/2019 I was on the phone with a Chase representative named XXXX and a XXXX representative named XXXX. During that recorded and monitored phone conversation I was told that I no longer had any reason to think that I have any involvement with this case. That was the reason for the original complaints : I was complaining because of my treatment but I genuinely thought that the problem was resolved. Today I receive a letter from XXXX saying I owe XXXX to XXXX for a balance transfer. I phoned XXXX office of the President because I was called last week by XXXX XXXX who works there, so I had this number. The message was : we are unable to answer phone calls today, good-bye. I phoned another number for customer service and got transferred to XXXX. XXXX and I then called Chase and we were told that what XXXX told me -- that the check was being retracted by XXXX was not true. I then was told that only I could be given a check, but a check in the amount of XXXX. Chase kept XXXX to cover the cost of revolving interest on the outstanding balance that I paid off on XX/XX/XXXX. Why does this keep happening to me? Every single time I have acted in good faith and every single time I have been lied to. I requested from both XXXX and Chase letters that would reflect what has transpired so that I do not have to continually get on the phone and repeat my story and Both XXXX XXXX and XXXX ( the last Chase representative I spoke with today ) agreed to that. XXXX from the Excecutive office, XXXX XXXX, and I were disconnected. Both had my phone number and neither attempted to call me back. I again called XXXX XXXX, received his voicemail and expressed my desire to conclude this mess today and then back to XXXX at Chase who said he will cut a check for XXXX because it is not Chase 's policy to pay out to a third party ( even though that ' s exactly what was told to me on XX/XX/XXXX -- XXXX was retracting the funds ) and apparently XXXX XXXX knew that XXXX could not to that, either, but no one from XXXX bothered to inform me that this is the case. Instead, I get yet another mailing saying I am in arrears and when I call the number given it says I owe XXXX XXXX something ( the extra for the balance transfer at 5 % -- the whole reason I did not finish the application, did not consent to the money being sent to Chase! XXXX XXXX said that he is still investigating this and that he would have a letter about his findings sent to me in a few days, but that was before the 3-way phone call with Chase, XXXX, and I. Now I think this is a new complaint and is really being leveraged more against Chase this time. Why would XXXX say he would do something he can not do? I want those recorded telephone conversations to be listened to so that others know I am not making this up! PLEASE, I feel so frustrated and abused. Everyone is treating me like I have this money and I simply do not. That is why I finally consented today to have XXXX send me a check in the amount of XXXX and I would respectfully request that XXXX accept that amount from me for the simple fact that this whole situation is an employee of XXXX fault. Whomever pushed that unsigned, unauthorized and without my consent online form through is the person who everyone but especially XXXX should be reprimanding.

Fraud or scam

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: Domestic (US) money transfer

Complaint: XX/XX/2019 I was a victim of fraud. I purchased tickets off of XXXX and paid through XXXX via my Chase checking account. Within an hour of the transaction I discovered the transaction was fraudulent and attempted to stop the money transferring, but soon learned I could not and that there is no consumer protection for this. I called the banks 24 hour customer service who further validated this. The transaction was still showing as pending when I called, since it was a Sunday night, but the woman I spoke with, XXXX, said that there was no way to stop the transaction.

Checking or savings account: CD (Certificate of Deposit)

Deposits or withdrawals
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I deposited {$9600.00} into a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, with an annual percentage yield of XXXX percent, a term of 15 months and an automatic renewal at the end of each term. On XX/XX/XXXX I was mailed the original certificate of deposit to my home in XXXX, Florida. I placed the mailed envelop that contained the original certificate of deposit, the receipt from the bank for the XXXX and the Terms and Conditions pamphlet in my personal bank safety deposit box. The certificate remained in the safety deposit box until I moved from XXXX to XXXX XXXX, Florida in XXXX when I moved it to a new bank safety deposit box in XXXX XXXX. Although the XXXX has my correct full name and correct Florida address where I lived for 22 years ( XXXX XXXX ) I was never contacted by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX or any other financial institution concerning my XXXX at any time between XXXX and XXXX. It is my understanding that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX was acquired by XXXX XXXX in XXXX along with all its financial accounts and assets and in XXXX all assets and holdings of the original XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX and XXXX XXXX were purchased by JP Morgan/Chase. During none of these transitions was I ever contacted by any of the financial institutions. The New York State Comptroller Office said legally the banks had to honor the interest rate for five years then if they could not find me they had to transfer the funds and interest to the State of New Yorks Comptroller Office of Unclaimed Funds where the funds would continue to receive interest for a period of another five years. The NY Office of the Comptroller has completed a full search and can not find any evidence that any of the banks in possession of my XXXX funds ever transferred the XXXX funds and interest as required to the State of NY Unclaimed Funds. I contacted JP Morgan/Chase as they purchased all the assets of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX and XXXX XXXX. When I contacted JP Morgan/Chase I was told that even though I have the original XXXX and XXXX bank receipt that proves the funds have never been withdrawn, that since JP Morgan/chase legally does not have to retain files for more than seven years they had no record of the XXXX and they refused to honor the XXXX. As I have the Original XXXX, the XXXX bank receipt, the original XXXX Terms and Conditions bank pamphlet as wells as the original envelop postmarked XX/XX/XXXX that contained the original XXXX and it has been in a bank safety deposit box since XXXX that should prove that I am owed the original amount plus interest. It is not fair to me and very convenient for JP Morgan/Chase to claim they do not have to honor the XXXX and can keep my money and the interest since they are only required to maintain records for the past XXXX years. Why was I not contacted during any of these institution changes since my XXXX was part of the assets they acquired? They should have contacted me when they purchased the assets originally belonging to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX and XXXX XXXX I am a XXXX XXXX living on a fixed social security income. Losing not only the original amount of {$9600.00}, due to the banks refusing to contact me, but the many years I thought it was receiving interest, should be a crime. The XXXX would be worth about {$30000.00} now! It is the responsibility of JP Morgan/Chase to honor my XXXX which they acquired and have had full access to profit using my funds. Their reasoning that they have no records past the last seven years is not acceptable as I have the original XXXX and receipt that they should accepted as recorded proof. The FDIC stated to me that this XXXX would have passed from each bank to the next as they were acquired and would now be with JP Morgan/Chase. JP Morgan/Chase should honor the XXXX and allow me to withdraw all of the original funds plus any interest.

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Deposits and withdrawals
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 someone that was not me or my fiancee made 3 withdrawals made from my checking account in the amounts of {$160.00}, {$200.00}, and {$500.00}. There was also a cash deposit of {$50.00} made on XX/XX/2019 and this person also tried to deposit a stolen check of {$300.00} into the account on XX/XX/XXXX. These transactions happened at two different Chase Bank locations ( one in XXXX, GA and the other in XXXX, GA. ) I immediately called the bank on XX/XX/XXXX notifying them that I saw withdrawals made on my account that were not done by me. They told me that they were still pending and they couldn't do anything until they were processed and cleared. On XX/XX/2019, they were processed and I called back to file a claim. At this point, I filed a claim and asked the lady what I was supposed to do regarding my account ( because it had been emptied out. ) She said to keep using it like normal, once the claim is approved the money will go back into my account and any fees from insufficient funds would be reimbursed as well. After 5 days ( they said it would take 3-5 days ) I called back because I noticed that this person tried to deposit a {$300.00} check into my account. The person I talked to this time said that they would freeze the account so no more transactions could take place and that I should open a new account, so I did. I kept calling back every week trying to figure out the status of my claim with no answers. I finally received a letter in the mail near the end of XX/XX/XXXX stating that my claim was denied because " we determined that you benefited from the funds. '' On XX/XX/2019, I called Chase Claims Department again to figure out why my claim was denied. I was told it was denied because of the following 3 reasons : 1 ) When making the withdrawal ( at a teller ) the person provided a photo ID ( a driver 's license. ) 2 ) Chase said I did business at those branches before. 3 ) The signatures matched. 1 ) When talking to this lady I went over everything with her, she asked me for my driver 's license number and she said that the ID given with these withdrawals did not match the driver 's license number I gave her ( it was missing a 1. ) 2 ) This lady looked over all of my past interactions with Chase and said that I have never been to either of the two branches where these fraudulent transactions took place. ( I haven't. ) 3 ) This lady also said that the program she used showed that the signatures didn't match, but the department that approves and denies claims uses a different program. ( The signatures are similar but there are two very distinct differences in my real signature and the fake signatures, one in my first name and one in my last name. ) This lady sent a request to reopen the claim on XX/XX/2019. I never heard anything back and called again on XX/XX/2019. They said they didn't see anything in the system and would send a request to reopen the claim ( I went over everything with this person that I did with the lady on XX/XX/XXXX. ) Still, not hearing anything back, I contacted them again on XX/XX/2019 and requested to speak to a supervisor ( his name was XXXX. ) I went over everything with him again and he agreed with the other 2 claim specialists and sent it in to be reopened and said it would take 1-2 business days. On XX/XX/2019, I spoke to another supervisor ( her name was XXXX ) and she said it was denied and there was nothing they could do to refund my money unless I were to take legal action. During all this, I also filed a police report for identity theft which was then forwarded to the counties in which these transactions took place. One police department said Chase was being uncooperative and at that location the thief only withdrew {$160.00} so the police department didn't feel it was worth their time and closed my case. The other police department said they are back logged with cases and have not even looked at my case file yet.

Complaint: I sold a mattress, box spring, frame etc., on XXXX to man that said he was moving to XXXX. He mailed me a cashiers check for the mattresses, with additional money to pay the movers for the pick up and move of the mattress. I received the cashier 's check, I deposited it into my Chase Bank personal checking account on XX/XX/2019, it was pending for a day and then it cleared and was available in my account to be used on XX/XX/2019. I waited another day and then used XXXX XXXX to send a portion of the money to the delivery service on XX/XX/2019. I was not aware that I was being scammed but would NEVER have used that money for any reason at all if Chase had not cleared my check and shown it available in my account. At this time, I had no idea what Chase was about to do considering the check cleared and I waited to it to be safe to use. Once both transactions were complete, three full days went by and onXX/XX/2019 at XXXX Chase bank 'refunded ' the check of {$1700.00} back out of my account, resulting in a negative overdraft balance of {$1400.00} to my account, not to mention the fees they've charged ME after THEY have over-drafted my account. I spoke with numerous bank managers and claims specialists who refuse to take accountability for the cleared check and refuse to assist in any assistance for me. They insist there is nothing they can do to help me get my money back. They waited too long THREE DAYS to 'refund ' the check, or alert me that it was fake, which resulted in me losing all my money. Chase bank said it was too late to get the XXXX XXXX transaction reversed because it had already gone through to the receiver. I had the claim escalated to some Chase bank escalation service which wasn't any more helpful. They spent a week " researching '' the situation only to call me back and tell me that the " bank has the right to refund a check that was cleared and deposited into my account if it's found to be fictitious '', but what about my rights? What about the consumer 's rights? If I deposit a cashier 's check, it is cleared by the bank, I wait days to use the money, why am I penalized for this? The bank cleared it, and now I'm being penalized for the mistake of clearing it that they made. I had no idea this was a fictitious check, how was I supposed to know that this money would be taken back out of my account after it was approved? I'm desperate for someone to help me, the consumer should have SOME kind of right in this situation. This was ALL of my money, and now they've frozen all my accounts completely because it is negative, which I don't have the money to bring it out of the negative. There has to be something that can be done to protect consumers like me that are being penalized for a mistake made by the bank. Please help me. Other information to be noted : I filed a police report in XXXX, IL the minute I was overdraft on Friday XX/XX/XXXX - Report No. XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX The phone number used by the buyer was XXXX ( probably a fake or burner phone number ), he referred to myself as XXXX XXXX from the XXXX inquiry.
