Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Credit card debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: I recently called to ask Chase bank why they reported to the credit Bureau that I was 30 days late on a payment that was already paid off. When I called I got this info : They showed that on the XXXX of XX/XX/2019 I was very late on my bill and owed XXXX to bring this balance down to XXXX and be finished with the bill. I paid that amount on the same day the XXXX to being it to XXXX. THey say that I tried to make another payment for {$250.00} later that same day and in a few days that came back as a return payment. The man on the phone stated to me that if the payment went through then it would have meant that I had a credit on my account for XXXX since I didnt owe anything. They updated my account with charges and late fees from the return payment that I had no idea of since I thought I paid off the entire amount. They reported to the credit Bureau that I was 30 days late for not paying what accrued to be {$56.00} The guy representing Chase agreed with me that they were in the wrong for charging me the fees and said they would remove them. I still have {$2.00} in the negative that they are saying that i owe in the mobile app. Additionally, because they reported me being late my credit score dropped 51 points. When I called back to ask if they can report that they made a mistake they said I would have to do that on my own. I think that's XXXX.

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: In XXXX, I applied and received an Amazon Rewards Credit Card from JP Morgan Chase Bank. I wanted the card solely for purchasing products from Amazon online, as they offer points for purchases. At some point after receiving this card, I misplaced it, and called to cancel and receive a new one. I signed up for autopay for my monthly payments, trusting that my identity, and account number was safe. Fast forward to XXXX, out of curiosity, I checked on my statements, and noticed that Chase Bank was charging me unwarranted cash advance interest charges which is why my balance barely changed! Ive never used this card to get actual cash, so upon trying to contact the customer service, and spending the better half of the day, being transferred between several departments, I was told that the CSA just wanted to get rid of me which is why I was being transferred. Trying desperately to find out why I was being charged for cash advance interest charges for cash advances I didnt make, the CSAs continued to transfer me back and forth, until I spoke with a young woman who admitted there was an error. She said she did not see any cash advances on my account, so they connected me to the security department, where I was told there would be an investigation. While the bank performed a cash advance interest reversal ( retracted last years interest charges ) they still continue to charge me! When I finally heard from the investigation associate, she fabricated that I supposedly made a cash advance at 2 separate ATM machines just after I received the card in XXXX?? I told her that I was never in one of the towns where this cash advance supposedly occurred, nor had I made cash advances! She also told me that even if I had made a cash advance, back in XXXX, I shouldnt be getting charged 12 years later ; it would have been paid off way before XXXX. I continued to write to Chase Bank, and pleaded with them to stop tacking on unwarranted charges to my balance, to which they ignored me for about two weeks, and finally, I received a phone call today, and was told that the cash advances were made inside the bank to which I corrected her saying that I was told 3 weeks ago, by another investigator, that these charges were made at an ATM, and now the story is changing to someone went inside a bank branch to take money using a credit card. To be completely honest with you, I had no idea that you could use a credit card inside a bank or at an ATM machine to get cash ; I wouldnt have known this 12 years ago and I only found this out a few months ago in XXXX. I also made several requests for CCTV footage from said banks, but of course, there would be no proof of this 12 years later. How convenient for Chase! They chose XXXX, because they knew there would be little proof! Something is very wrong here ; I dont get up every day and work hard, so that J.P. Morgan and Chase Bank can contradict my payments like this. They flat out lied to me and think Im stupid enough to believe that I forgot about taking money out against a credit card? Whats wrong with Chase bank just admitting the error and rectifying it, by reimbursing my card, instead of fabricating lies. Out of curiosity, I researched online to see if anyone else had experienced this issue, and discovered that JP Morgan Chase had been sued several times for charging Cash Advance Interest Fees. I wasnt at all shocked. As someone who worked in XXXX and XXXX for XXXX, I know for a fact that many of these associates work on a commission. Ive been making my monthly payments on time, and when I can I make more than the minimum, via autopay. Apparently, theyve become desperate ; conjuring up some cash advance in XXXX, and still charging me interest in XXXX.

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: I filed a complaint with Chase Credit cards for an online transaction I never received from the XXXX XXXX ( ordered around XXXX XX/XX/XXXX ). I filed an additional complaint with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( XXXX ) on 3/XX/XX/XXXX after it was not resolved. Chase contacted me and I explained that I never received any item from the company, they said they would contact me within 48 hours with a response to my complaint. They never contacted me again and now I am being charged interest and late fees on an item I never received. Interest charged XX/XX/XXXX for {$1.00} and a late fee of {$25.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. I want these charges reversed because I never received anything from XXXX XXXX and late fees and interest fees dropped too. Under Federal law I have the right to dispute any amount over {$50.00} and they have an obligation to fairly resolve it. XXXX XXXX no longer has a working website and has been reported by other users to be fraudulent, but Chase has still failed to take action and is now charging me additional late fees and interest. A dispute was also filed with the XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX XXXX never responded back to my complaint.

Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Complaint: I opened the account in 2012. The offering was XXXX miles award on XXXX XXXX after the first $ XXXX spent and XXXX miles every year thereafter. I did not see my award this past XXXX so I called chase. They claim that the bank did away with that promotion and switched to another offering. This unilateral switcharoo hardly seems legal to me. I expect them to honor the initial offering as it played a major role in opening an account with them

Banking errors
Complaint: Re : Chase Bank Deceptive Advertising and Sales Practices I am a 20 year account holder with Chase Bank, a retired senior citizen, and have recently had a financially and emotionally distressing experience while attempting to take advantage of one of their promotional offers. I would like to respectfully request an investigation into their promotional, advertising and sales practices. The promotional offer that I received from Chase provided for XXXX reward points ( convertible to {$600.00} ) or {$750.00} to convert my service charge free checking account to a Chase Signature Checking Account. The offer was contingent upon bringing {$75000.00} in new funds to their bank. After verifying with Chase employees that transfers from my IRA accounts with an outside institution would qualify, I initiated and transferred almost {$60000.00} in funds and authorized my account change to the Chase Signature Checking Account. The remaining funds were to come from a money market account that I maintain at another local institution. Immediately after the account type was changed on the system and the banker returned to her desk after processing the IRA deposits, I questioned the exclusions that were detailed in disclosures that she had set aside next to her keyboard. After checking with her manager, I was advised that the funds that were just deposited, did not qualify. For weeks, I was repeatedly told I would be contacted to see if there could be any accommodation. However, I have not received any calls or follow up. My follow up contact and calls with the banker were returned with no additional information provided. I recently returned from a month-long trip and did not find any further contact from Chase or the banker. After setting yet another appointment with the banker upon my return, I tried to change my checking account back to my service charge free checking account. I was told that there are minimum balance requirements, now in effect, that are required in order to avoid service charges on my checking account. I was also advised that the previous checking account waiver no longer applied. I have detailed the specifics below. XX/XX/2019 Received email with Sapphire Banking Promotional Offer from Chase to change my Chase checking account to their Sapphire Checking and receive XXXX Reward PointsXX/XX/2019 Was in Chase Branch. Asked Personal Banker if Sapphire Checking Promotional Offer included funds in IRA accounts. She set up appointment for later that afternoon for us to meet with Private Client Advisor. During that meeting, I showed PCA the offer. We discussed investment options for IRA funds and determined that I should set up a You Invest Account. He called a You Invest contact to verify if Traditional and Roth IRA accounts would qualify for the offer. He then walked me through the set up of my You Invest Roth IRA on my smart phone. He also gave me an instruction sheet to transfer the IRA funds as a direct rollover. Personal Banker said she would assist me with depositing the funds when I received them and also with completing the promotional offer. I went home and set up my You Invest Traditional IRA account. XX/XX/2019 Upon receipt of my You Invest Account numbers, I contacted the institution where my IRA accounts were housed. Using the direct transfer instructions from the PCA, I requested transfers of my Traditional IRA and my Roth funds. XX/XX/2019 Upon receipt of the checks, I contacted the Personal Banker and set up an appointment for to fund the You Invest accounts, complete the checking account changes and determine account options for the remaining balances I would be transferring to Chase from my Money Market account at another local financial institution. The PB started off our meeting by processing the promotional offer for the Sapphire Checking account change. She let me know that I also had an option of receiving {$750.00} instead of the XXXX reward points ( convertible to {$600.00} ). I decided on cash option as opposed to the rewards. She printed out some paperwork, set it aside and then contacted the You Invest Area to determine the appropriate steps to fund the You Invest IRA accounts. She completed the necessary You Invest paperwork, accepted my checks and excused herself to complete the processing of the deposits. While I was waiting for her to return, I glanced at the paperwork that she had set aside next to her keyboard after processing my account change. There were confusing stipulations for the {$750.00} Upgrade offer. Specifically, it detailed the following : Within 45 days, transfer a total of {$75000.00} or more in qualifying new money or securities to a combination of eligible checking, savings and/or J.P.Morgan investment accounts ( excluding CDs insurance products fixed and variable annuities ; 529 College Savings Plans ; any retirement accounts including but not limited to Traditional and Roth IRAs, Keogh, Simple IRAs, and 401 ( k ) Plans ). When the PB returned with my receipts, I asked about the exclusions. She, in turn, checked with her manager. Both agreed that my You Invest accounts were most probably NOT eligible. The PB said she would check further and let me know. XX/XX/2019 Left message for PB to call me. XX/XX/2019 PB called me back and set up appoint for XX/XX/XXXX to discuss. XX/XX/2019 PB set short term monthly service charge waiver on Sapphire checking account until further resolution to prevent monthly service charge. XX/XX/2019 Left message for PB to call me. She called back and set up appointment forXX/XX/XXXX XX/XX/2019 - PB said she had sent an email on XXXX about the stipulations in the promotional offer but had not heard back. She let me know that that the Total Checking Account that I had previously would now be assessed a monthly service charge if I maintained the balances that I previously maintained. She said that she would ask her manager to request a waiver from her district manager who was currently out of the office. She asked me to allow at least a week to see if it was approved.

Problem using a debit or ATM card
Complaint: XX/XX/2019 i had 4 fraudulent transactions on my debit card from XXXX gas station in XXXX XXXX. 1 for XXXX 1 for XXXX 1 for XXXX 1 for XXXX I called the bank as soon as i was made aware of the transactions that all happened around midnigjt while i was home asleep with my atm card in my wallet. I advised them that i believed there may have been a skimmer or something because i HAD gotten gas at that station on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of XXXX. They temporarily credited my account on XX/XX/XXXX for the full amount and opened a claim. On XX/XX/XXXX my account was overdrawn because they reversed the credits and claim that the i investigation found no fraud and they were legitimate transactions because of the location although i had told them the transaction from that location 4 days prior was authorized but not the 4 equaling {$410.00}. I called to appeal the decision and they opened a appeal case but said i may not win and may not get my money back. I tried to get this process expedited considering my account is in the negative and i have bills on autopay set to come out and children to feed. I dont think that the investigation was fair and even other reps on the phone said they see this all the time with gas stations and its always fraud so im not sure why i as a customer am being held accountable for stolen money. The appeal is in process and will take 3-10 business days.

Company closed your account
Complaint: Chase closed my AARP Chase credit card without my consent. Although I can understand closing an account for abuses or non-payment, it does not seem right that a card company can simply close an account because they are not satisfied with how much I am using their card. When a credit card company decides to take this action they are potentially having a negative impact on a consumer 's credit as the total amount of available credit is reduced and the average age of open accounts may decrease. This kind of tactic should not be allowed to take place and I hope you will thoroughly investigate this issue.
