Managing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Deposits and withdrawals
Complaint: On the Thursday of XX/XX/XXXX, I walked into my local Chase Bank to open a checking account. I was receiving money from my grandfather who was helping me with paying rent. The fastest way to get the money was if opening a bank account at the same bank he uses. I was assisted by a service rep who was very disingenuous about our exchange. I felt as if she didn't truly care about me as a new customer because of me just waking up to get to the bank. I informed them that soon i will be changing my main bank to them and they seemed ecstatic. To open the bank account they required a min deposit of XXXX dollars. I went to the ATM to withdraw the amount incurring a fee to my other account. Everything was fine and everything was set up. When the XXXX dollar amount hit my account a couple hours later, I knew it would be an issue. I didn't have a debit card physically but I knew i could verify my ID if anything came up as suspicious. I was running late so I went to another Chase bank A little further from my house, near my job to withdraw partial of the total amount. XXXX dollars. The teller first told me it would be fine that I would be able to receive my money. Then, he took quite a long time typing at the computer. I informed him that my grandfather was sending money for bills. He said everything was fine but called the bank manager over. The bank manager asked for another ID form so i gave him debit card. Now after another 10 mins and I am actually late for work, he tells me it is denying my withdraw, I didn't understand. The manager then informed me that I would be able to tomorrow around XXXX. I took the answer and went on my business. Later on around XXXX that day I looked into the account to make sure everything was still okay. Online banking said my account has been suspended and to call a number to reinstate it. After calling that number and verifying my ID the associate told me that my account is being looked at for fraud. Something I knew was possible and that I was told would be easily solved. After being cold transferred to the fraud department, re-verifying my ID i was told by someone who could not articulate in English that my account has been closed and began to read me a jargon about what will happen next. It is now the XXXX of XXXX my account is closed, I don't know what happened to my XXXX dollars plus my XXXX dollar deposit and my bills are already 3 days overdue incurring late fees. I feel robbed of my that is rightfully mine and feel as if the bank does not care about my current situation. They cared enough that I opened an account with them but not enough to tell me where my money is and help a new account holder.

Problem using a debit or ATM card
Complaint: Sometime on the night of XX/XX/XXXX or early XX/XX/XXXX my debit card was stolen. The next morning I woke up to alerts from my bank app relating to transactions and ATM withdrawals that had occurred that morning. I immediately called the bank ( at XXXX XXXX CT ), notified them that any transactions from that account that day were fraudulent, and to block the card. The bank temporarily credited some of the charges, but not all, and turned the card off at XXXX XXXX CT ( I have email confirmation of this ). A couple days later on XX/XX/XXXX, I went into a Chase branch to figure out why only some of the charges had been credited. The personal banker there informed me that whoever took the initial call missed some of the charges and it seemed some of the charges even occurred after the card was supposed to have been shut off. She also said that it would take a few days, but by XX/XX/XXXX I should see everything credited back to my account. However that never happened and instead the bank began reversing out the credits they had already given me. Then on XX/XX/XXXX, I spoke to the personal banker from the branch again and was told that the bank 's fraud department had determined that the charges were authorized ( since a pin was used ) and that I would not be receiving any credits. A few things that I think are important to consider : The bank allowed {$5000.00} to be withdrawn across 13 transactions over about 4 hours. 4 of the transactions occurred after I initiated the call to the bank fraud line. It appears to have taken 17 minutes into that call for the bank to have shut the card off. The bank never provided temporary credits for some of the charges. Most of the transactions occurred in XXXX. XXXX and XXXX ( between XXXX and XXXX ET ), and I live in XXXX without a car. I have credit card payments occurring in XXXX Saturday close to XXXX XXXX and again on XXXX XXXX. I have a receipt for an XXXX delivery to my XXXX apartment at XXXX XXXX CT. I have multiple accounts and credit cards with this bank ( for over 10 yrs ), have been an excellent customer, and have never had activity similar to these charges ( cash back at XXXX, several large cash withdrawals in short time, any use of the debit card for that matter ). Chase claims to have a zero liability policy regarding fraudulent charges.

Problem caused by your funds being low

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Overdrafts and overdraft fees
Complaint: From what I was told when I signed up with this card, I was not going to be charged if I didn't have the funds in my account. When I opened this account, I had come from XXXX and even XXXX XXXX XXXX with the promise that I wasn't going to get charged overdraft fees from the company and a transaction would not take place if the money wasn't in the account. THIS means " every day '' card purchases, this does not mean any other types of purchases. That means that if you go to the grocery store and try to buy something, it will decline if funds are not available. That makes sense. But why am I being charged AT ALL if the money isn't in there? It's been so long, and I finally read the verbiage used in the disclosure about overdraft fees and they say they will pay things to their discretion. I have called them to ask them not to take the fees if the fees aren't in there. This is not my primary account and I am switching to an account that doesn't take money if the money isn't in there. If paying something is up to the discretion of a company, they will pay it because they know I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees every single year for it. With that said, I have tried closing my account multiple times now and they tell me that I can't if I have pending transactions. So then I have to wait. In the meantime, another thing ( to their discretion ) is paid, and another fee is attached to it! I don't even use the account anymore, and I feel like I'm being cornered. I would like all of my money back for the fees, I have paid the company more than enough money for paying bills that I told them not to take out unless the money was in there, but they pay it ( to their discretion for a {$34.00} fee ). This doesn't seem like a bank to me, it seems like a business where they make more money and they can not be trusted with my business.

Closing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Company closed your account
Complaint: Last XXXX Chase J.P. Morgan had closed my checking & savings account. There reason of canceling my account was to many claims I asked them what is to many claims and they couldnt provide extra information. I have done 3 claims and no where does it say or limit me claims I can do. Yes I know I read the customer agreement from they can cancel for any reason. I also read they can report your information to third parties/ bearus. This is making it harder for me to apply for any place for a checking account. Its shows my Free credit reporting act that there is some kind of blockish getting me a checking account. I also have a car loan with chase and as they may say they dont want to do business with me that cant be possible with an existing car loan. I cant even log in to check my balance or even make payments. I am hopping to either recover my account and or have it removed so I can move forward and apply to other checking accounts with other banks.

Banking errors
Complaint: I have been a loyal Chase bank customer since XXXX. I opened Chase business account in XXXX to support a new business I founded. However, since around XXXX, the business account has not been actively used as I gained a full-time job. The balance in my business account has been between {$1500.00} and {$1600.00} to avoid monthly charges. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received Chase email alerts indicating both of my account balance was low. I logged into my Chase account online and found out that my account was compromised. Someone going by the name of XXXX XXXX made himself as one of XXXX by XXXX recipients and paid himself {$900.00} from personal account ending in XXXX using XXXX by XXXX. Then he transferred {$900.00} from personal acct. ending in XXXX to my business account ending in XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, he withdrew {$2000.00} and {$430.00} in two separate transactions, from my business acct. ending in XXXX using XXXX by XXXX, under the name of XXXX. XXXX. The hacker was smart and apparently is having a success in confusing Chase bank by changing the recipient name to XXXX. XXXX, my wife. However, when you see XXXX activity page, you will see that the only person I've been sending and receiving money is XXXX. XXXX, my wife, since XX/XX/XXXX. We have a joint checking account at XXXX XXXX XXXX, and I've been sending money to XXXX XXXX XXXX account to save money. The email associated with XXXX. XXXX is XXXX. The email associated with XXXX XXXX is XXXX, and the email associated with those two transactions of {$2000.00} and {$430.00} reportedly sent to XXXX. XXXX, is XXXX. We do not know these email addresses. These emails are associated with the hacker but I do not think Chase has investigated these email addresses. I called Chase fraud department on XX/XX/XXXX and closed all Chase checking accounts as well as credit cards. On XX/XX/XXXX I visited a local Chase branch to reopen checking accounts and to submit a claim ( claim # XXXX ) to my lost funds. Chase reversed the {$900.00} charge to XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. However, Chase is not honoring my claim for {$2400.00} for reasons not clearly explained. Chase keeps insisting that the transaction was processed correctly or was authorized because they could not find any password changes or other indications of fraud. With the help of a local Chase branch relationship manager, XXXX XXXX. of XXXX XXXX branch, I acquired a signed letter from a local XXXX XXXX XXXX branch that confirmed the only email address associated with our XXXX XXXX XXXX account is XXXX as well as recent bank statements confirming no transfer of funds for {$2000.00} and {$430.00}. My wife, XXXX. XXXX, also signed a letter confirming that the only email address associated with my XXXX XXXX XXXX account is XXXX. XXXX XXXX. faxed these documents on XX/XX/XXXX to Chase fraud department. Once again, on XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter from Chase bank that they will not honor my claim due to the reasons stated above. They did not provide any explanations for the different emails used to fraudulently withdraw the funds using XXXX by XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX statements indicating no transfer of funds from Chase bank for {$2000.00} and {$430.00}. Chase fraud department may not have looked at this claim seriously as they may have thought I initiated the transfer because of recipient 's name noted as my wife 's name. Also during the first week of XX/XX/XXXX, I filed a police report with XXXX XXXX police department ( case # XXXX ). Reportedly the investigation would take several months.
