Debt was paid
Complaint: I was offered a credit card over the phone about 10 years ago by Discover Card for about {$4000.00}. I was later referred to a debt collector who took me to court as I fell behind my payments whereby a payment arrangement of {$100.00} was agreed upon.
I have asked the debt collector to consider writing off the debt as I have payed them towards or above {$10000.00} over the years, well in excess of the original {$400.00} credit card limit that they extended to me.
Unfortunately, the debt collector have always declined this arrangement ; they actually indicate that my debt has increased from about {$400.00} to about {$16000.00} because of interest rates which to me seem utterly artificial or unfair.

Complaint: Have been trying to ask them for help with consolidating or remedying my debt with them and every time I am refused any help at all. I get very mean and loud agents who insist I pay the entire amount up front to keep from having more issues with Discover Card. Some threatening me with insulting ways of paying the debt or just being stringent on not helping find a way to get my debt settled with them.

Can't qualify for a loan
Complaint: My son, XXXX, is applying for a student loan at Discover to attend Univ XXXX XXXX - XXXX and I am his father and cosigning the loan. Discover advertises a 2.99 % rate as their lowest rate.
In XXXX, my son and I applied for and received a loan at the lowest rate from Discover.
In XXXX, another son of mine, XXXX, and I applied to Discover for a student loan for him to attend XXXX XXXX - XXXX XXXX. We received this loan at the lowest rate.
My credit is excellent. I checked with XXXX XXXX and it is XXXX and XXXX. It is as good as it has ever been. I also recently paid down my home mortgage considerably, which seemed to have a positive impact on my credit score.
Last week XXXX and I applied for his fall semester and we were give a secondary rate of 4.6 % ( over 50 % higher than the lowest rate ). I called and they said my credit score in XXXX was XXXX and my credit now was XXXX, but still both outstanding scores.
I have worked hard to get my credit score in an excellent range. Paying down the mortgage was a big part of that and took considerable resources.
Discover offered no explanation other than the decision is based on their algorithm.
I do n't believe them and I believe I am unfairly being treated and discriminated against.

Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, 2015 I have made an online payment to my discover card which covered my full balance. Once the payment confirmation appeared, it stated that all my future direct payments will be cancelled. On XXXX XXXX, 2015 an additional payment, in the amount of my usual direct payment, was withdrawn from my bank account causing an overdraft charge. On XXXX XXXX, 2015 I have contacted the discover card in order to resolve the issue. The representative I spoke with told me that the amount of the direct payment will be transferred back to my bank account, however the amount of my overdraft charge will not be returned and that I have to ask my bank for the refund of that charge. I explained to the representative that the bank did n't make any mistakes and will not return the fee since the charge was made and was covered by the bank. To which the representative replied that unfortunately discover does n't refund bank fees. I once again explained that the overdraft was due to the mistake made by discover card and discover card should be the party responsible for the charge. Unfortunately I was once again told that the money I had to pay my bank will not be refunded.

XXXX in particular was of a mother who worked really hard and could not make ends meet with XXXX XXXX assistant she began to make thousands from home. I sent an email as the company provided their email address in the ad. I never received a response from the company that was doing the advertising. He began to interview me stated that he had to verify that I met the criteria to be a part of such a lucrative business opportunity. He advised he had XXXX difference platforms ranging from XXXX to XXXX XXXX dollars. He stated if I purchased the XXXX XXXX dollar package, everything would be done and customized for me, and I was guaranteed to make money, without lifting a finger. Here I am weeks later, and to my knowledge I still do n't have an active account. They mentioned that my account is active, but I never even put anything on it or seen it. They swindled me out of {$3200.00} dollars and several monthly fees of {$110.00} stating that it was essential for the operation of my website. WHAT WEBSITE, I DO N'T HAVE ONE! Which has brought me to this point. My credit card company states they will not refund my money because the merchant responded. In their responses they provided a contract which I admitted to signing and a record log of me attempting to contact them excessively, which only proofs that I was n't receiving the assistance I needed. Regarding XXXX, XXXX and case number XXXX. Please advise my credit card company under the Federal Truth in Lending Act ( TILA ) and Regulation Z, I have ONE YEAR to file a non-billing error type dispute. Complaint: Recently my credit card vendor, Discover, notified me that my account may have been compromised. Discover issued me a new account and card. Discover said it was not their system that was compromised, but a merchant. I asked Discover what merchant was compromised, but Discover refused to divulge that information. I may want to avoid the merchant so I think I should have right to know who the merchant is. Here is Discover 's official response.
" Thank you for your message regarding a merchant compromise. I understand your desire to know which merchant was compromised and I will be happy to address your concerns.
I am afraid that we are not authorized to disclose the name of the merchant in this case or dates. However, please be assured we are actively monitoring your account and you are never responsible for any unauthorized use of youraccount. ''

Complaint: I began contacting Discover Card for an account I had XX/XX/XXXX. I had filed bankruptcy in prior years and came to learn three years later that Discover Card ( amongst others ) had increased my interest rate from or about 3.5 % to over 29 %. At no time did we miss or were we late on a payment. Discover, along with several other credit card providers, had found the bankruptcy, in which I did NOT include any debt I owed, and automatically started slowly increasing the interest rate. After several years of paying the invoices we discovered the large increase and notified each credit card company that followed this process and demanded that they reduce the rate and provide a refund. Many did but Discover did not. We quit paying on the card and continued to demand a refund, which would have resulted in us owing nothing on the card. XXXX when the write-off showed up on credit report I began writing Discover and the credit reporting companies in an effort to have the charge off removed from my report ( see attached letters ). Although I received XXXX response to my XXXX requests, the information requested was never provided. The information I was requesting were items listed on the CFPB site and I referenced the Fair Debt Collections Act in each letter. I have just been turned down for a mortgage refinance on my home because this item is on my credit report. My savings in monthly payments due to the reduced interest rate would have been over {$1200.00} a month, a loss of roughly {$72000.00} over the next five years. This debt was eventually sold and I have had similar contact with the collection firm. They too did not provide the information requested, specifically the information I needed to calculate and show the overcharge of interest.

Complaint: I paid off all my balance and closed my Discover card sometime last year. After a couple of months I received a statement for a membership fee plus a late fee. In XXXX last year I called the Card Company and told them that I had already closed the card and protested to them about the charges. They agreed to remove all charges and told me that now the card had been closed. For a number of months I received no statement from the card company. Sometime in XXXX I received another statement from the card company now with a much larger late fee. I again called the card company and told them that I had closed this card twice and have made no transactions on the card. The first agent told me that she saw the noting about the XXXX discussion, however she did not have the ability to take any action. She forwarded me to another agent. In this way I was forwarded XXXX times. I got frustrated in the process and told the last agent to do whatever he could. He asked me if I wanted to dispute member ship charges. I told him that the charges had been already taken off by them. Therefore I should not have to dispute them again. I also protested about the number of times I was transferred without any resolution to my problem. He said he could not take any action. He asked me if I had any proof that I closed my account. I told him that I had closed the account by phone.
I keep receiving monthly statements with additional late fee. Now for a charge of {$10.00}, XXXX which had been earlier cancelled XXXX the balance stands at {$270.00} XXXX almost all late fee ). I feel that I am being harassed by the card company and request your assistance.

Complaint: I was sued by discover Bank and the account goes back to XX/XX/XXXX. I disputed the balance and went to trial. during the course of the trial and in discovery I asked the Plaintiff for a detailed listing of the charges they were suing for and a breakdown of interest charged. They only provided statements for the last XXXX years. They are claiming that the bulk of the charges {$8000.00} of the approximate {$10000.00} occurred prior to XX/XX/XXXX. However, they had absolutely no record of those charges and no interest breakdown. The court nevertheless found against me in spite of the lack of documentation. I believe that if they were suing on that account that they were required to provide a complete statement particularly itemizing the majority of their claimed debt. I have filed an appeal at this time. I believe that their failure to maintain those records is a violation of Federal law. Please advise

Complaint: A little over a year ago I enrolled in direct charge to my checking account to repay {$99.00} a month at a reduced interest rate, at the end of 1 year I was told that I was going back to the higher interest rate and the previous offer was only for one year, even though I was told that I could renew it every year. Very misleading. Also Discover advertises that you could redeem your bonuses anytime. Yet when I tried to redeam my bonus points I could not because I did not have {$25.00} in bonus. J also never gave them permission to put my credit score on my bill. Unfortunately I get my mail in XXXX XXXX and one of my bills went into someone elses box and it was opened. This happens quite often.

Complaint: Discover Card called my home to verify I submitted an application for credit I said I did not and they wanted my to verify my personal information. I said I would not since the phone number and name of business that ne was calling from said unavailable and that I had an issue with persons stealing my mail. He stated that Discover card did not have to protect me the consumer under the fair credit act. he placed some one else on the phone she said call me back at XXXX and ask for XXXX XXXX. I told here to send me a letter with the detail so I can protect my identity. She advised me that the application would be canceled but no details would be provide due to privacy law. So the bad guy is protected by the law while I get my identity stolen.
Prior to this a credit card was stolen from my mail activated by XXXX and fraud charges were made $ XXXX. I reported this to XXXX XXXX XXXX they just said they would write it off. Complaint filed with the local police and with the USPS. Requested that the credit reporting agency place a alret on my credit and Discover is stating no such alert is present. Complaint: As a XXXX, past XXXX years had been extremely difficult for me. I started having issues on payments, and most of my credit debts were sent to collections. And recent years I have been trying to recover from this financial crisis. And that 's how I started making payments on my Discover card debts. Initially I 've contacted XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX to resolve issues on my debt, and my understanding was we have settled the debt by making consecutive payments of {$300.00} per month for a year. So I 've been receiving documents stating {$300.00} was being applied to the settlement balance until XXXX of XX/XX/XXXX Since then I was n't receiving any documents, it led me to think my payments had ended and account was finally settled. But beginning of this month, I ran a credit report and surprisingly found this account is still bad and even had a judgement on it. And when I spoke to XXXX XXXX at XXXX who represented the Discover Bank, I found out for the first time, I had to call them to re-authorize them to debit from my account when I stopped receiving the letter from them. And I found out after making more than {$3400.00} in payments, I still owe {$4500.00} when the original debt amount was {$5300.00}. I 've tried to seek a solution with XXXX, but they were telling me it was my responsibility to call and re-authorize them to debit from my account and continue making the payments. Despite of my lack of knowledge on how to settle any type of debt, I 've tried my best to resolve this matter and made prompt payments by automatic withdrawal. It is hard to believe, I still owe so much in interest when I 've already initiated the payments in XX/XX/XXXX and made {$3400.00} in automatic withdrawal. It is my sincere apology that I could n't repay the debt on time due to my financial difficulties, and I truly want to resolve this matter ASAP. I 'm an ordinary US citizen who did n't have any professional knowledge on how this debt repayment/settlement works ; please help me find a reasonable solution to this matter. As XXXX XXXX XXXX is not willing to help me in any way, I did n't have any contact to seek help. Could you please help me?
Please let me know if you need any other information.
Thank you very much for your help.
Sincerely,
