Complaint: After receiving a declined charge on my card I looked into what the charge was and found that it was a payment for a payment protection program. I immediately called Discover 's Customer service and support and was told that I had been enrolled in the program since initially having opened the card account. I requested the audio recording of my verbal acceptance of the enrollment in the program and I was told that it was only noted on my account that I gave my verbal consent and that the audio was not available. This concerns me as I do not enroll in any programs that cost monthly charges due to the fact that they accrue significant charges over time and if I were to consent to such a program it would only be with the understanding that the program was not going to charge me anything. I was hoping to be able to hear the sales pitch and or the description of the program given to me at the time of program enrollment. As such, I am unable to hear the description of the service given to me at the time nor am I able to hear my verbal acceptance of said program. I was told that because the company sends out a newsletter detailing the programs and benefits I was enrolled in I should have known that I was enrolled in the program and also due to the fact it was being charged on my statement. The e-mail I received that alerted me to this charge was a notice of declined charge due to my current financial issues causing my balance to be near my current limit. This decline was listed as " PRTCTN/CRDTSFPLS '' and on the statements it was listed as " DISCOVERPAYMENTPROTECTION ''. This charge happens on the same date as interest and charges on cash advances and interest charges on purchases and would easily be mistaken for some kind of protection for an individual 's payment of standard billing charges. I have searched through the past few years of email notifications and have found the notifications of my enrollment in the program however none of them reference any fees associated with this benefit and it could easily be assumed that this was a regular feature of the card holders benefits. Although I understand that the company makes this " effort '' to inform the consumer regarding this service, I feel that I was misled into obtaining the service and charged over the course of nearly 5-7 years a total of as far, as I can tell, close to if not exceeding XXXX . With no audio recording of my acceptance, just a note on my account, as well as the fact that the information is proliferated solely through the " newsletter '' on my account information as an ambiguous payment protection charge that accompanies the interest charges on the same date. Beyond this, I have had any number of " qualifying events '' for which I could have, and would have, used this service had I desired this service in anyway. Discover has un-enrolled me from this program and offered me a 6-moth refund of charges, however, a small approximately {$250.00} refund I find to highly insufficient given that I have been enrolled without my knowledge since the opening of my account over 6 years ago with no proof of my consent beyond a note on my account. Given my total loss, I feel that should this not bring results further legal action may be completely justified as this seems like a rather deceptive practice and it have caused me significant financial loss. I have not included a total loss amount as I have been unable to retrieve statements beyond 5 years ago to see the totality of charges filed on my account. as or right now I estimate the loss at over {$2000.00}

Complaint: Discover card approved my application for credit. After mailing the credit card, they are saying that the application should have been denied due to the previous account being revoked. I made my payments on time for the previous account and Paid the account in full. The previous account was closed because of too many disputes. That 's what Discover told me. The payment verification team put a hold on my newly approved account and now, I have not even been able to use it since I opened it. I feel discriminated against and I am being denied credit when I am legally approved for it!

Unsolicited issuance of credit card

Complaint: I applied for a secured credit card with Discover. When I first applied they told me that I needed to upload a photo of my social security card in order for my account to be verified. I was XXXX during this time and did not have my social security card on hand, so I decided to not move forward with the account. I did not express this to the bank, but I assumed they would not approve me for the card without proper verification. Since this was a secured card, I provided my account information where the money would be taken. Four weeks after applying for the card, I saw that I {$200.00} had been removed from my account. I called Discover immediately and they told me my card had been approved. I told them to close the account immediately because I never gave verification for them to open it. They then told me they would close the account, but I would n't be able to have the {$200.00} back on my account for 3 cycles ( 90 days ). I am a college student and I opened up this account to try to build my credit. Before opening this account, I had no credit score at all, since opening this account and then closing it, I now have a score of XXXX. I never used the card, so the balance was {$0.00} and I closed the account within hours of it being approved without my permission.

Complaint: Discover Bank had frozen all my accounts on XX/XX/2016. I understand that the bank could have legitimate reason to freeze accounts, but it has also a duty to notify an account holder. It has not been done timely in my case. I was unable to use my accounts until XX/XX/2016, because the department who placed a hold on my accounts was closed over the weekend. What was most appalling about the way the situation was handled that while on XX/XX/2016, the bank representative was apologetic for not notifying me, on XX/XX/2016, the bank representatives, one after another, changed their tune and started telling me that they had called me to let me know that my accounts are being frozen. I spoke with XXXX, then with XXXX ( ID # XXXX ), and finally with Discover Bank supervisor XXXX ( ID # XXXX ). I asked XXXX to document my complaint. XXXX claimed that she has filed a complaint on my behalf and gave me conformation # XXXX. Further, XXXX stated that she will be investigating my complaint and will credit {$50.00} to my account ending in XXXX if she finds that Discover Bank has failed to notify me by calling my phone number ending in XXXX. My phone registers all incoming calls, there is no record of calls made by Discover Bank. XXXX made a promise on behalf on the Discover bank and such bilateral promise is legally binding and enforceable in a court of law. I want Discover bank to live up to its promise and credit {$50.00} to my account ending in XXXX for inconvenience and havoc the bank caused by failing to timely notify me about its adverse action.

Complaint: Discover Financial Services was attempting to contact me regarding the balance on my credit card account on Saturday XXXX XXXX, 2016. During the attempt to contact me, the debt collector that was working on behalf of Discover Financial Services somehow contacted my estranged husband without my permission. Bottom line, the debt collector revealed confidential information about my personal debt to a third party that has absolutely no business concerning my personal debt. I learned this when my estranged husband contacted me to insult me. I 've never given consent for Discover to contact any third party on my behalf, let alone go as far as to tell a third party about my financial debt.. I called to complain about the incident and I sent a written complaint to Discover on XXXX XXXX 2016. In my written complaint, I requested that my complaint be escalated to the highest officer in order to conduct an investigation of the actual conversation that took place between my estranged husband and the debt collector. The phone call would serve as proof that a violation had occurred. As of XXXX XXXX, 2016 Discover has yet to respond to my complaint. I know my rights and certainly this is a direct violation of my rights and the ( FDCPA ) prohibits these types of practices. I 'm filing this complaint because I want other consumers like myself to be aware of such practices. Also, I would like for Discover and their debt collectors to be less naive in their attempt to collect information about a debtor via an unauthorized third party. In my case the actions of the debt collector caused more harm than good because my personal information was given to someone that does not have my best interest at all.

Complaint: This is in regards to my previous complaint with Discover Card and the following transactions ... XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX {$700.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX XXXX XXXX {$380.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX {$4900.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX XXXX XXXX {$2000.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX {$2600.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX XXXX XXXX {$1200.00} XXXX/XXXX/16 XXXX {$730.00} I am NOT paying for these. They are NOT MINE! I have received nothing of value from any of these companies. You need to take a closer look at these. I contacted XXXX and they are adamant that they refunded the {$2600.00} on XXXX/XXXX/2016. Do your job correctly and contact them. I suspect if you contact the others, they will tell you the same. Even if they have n't issued refunds. I 'm supposed to be covered by your XXXX liability policy because the transactions ARE NOT MINE! This has gone on long enough and I 'm not going to be bullied into paying for something that I did not purchase. There 's also the {$6500.00} balance transfer that I did not make. My identity was stolen and you need to look at this again!
