Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: I was assessed an Annual Fee on my Capital One Venture card on XX/XX/XXXX, and the day after being assessed the fee, I called Capital One on XX/XX/XXXXto see if the fee could be reversed. I was informed the fee could not be reversed, but that I could switch to a Quicksilver card which had no annual fee. I was led to believe this would reverse the annual fee I was charged, as this new product did not have an annual fee and in the disclosures read to me over the phone there was no mention that annual fees already assessed would not be refunded. Note : they will refund them if you close the account, but that harms consumers as it can negatively impact one 's credit rating. I feel the lack of disclosure is unfair and deceptive, and the policy to only reverse an annual fee if the account is closed is abusive, as it can harm a consumer. Additionally, they wouldn't switch me back to the fee product, so effectively I paid {$95.00} for a card that doesn't have an annual fee.

Complaint: I am writing to inform you of an absurd bank policy that I had the unfortunate situation of being caught in the middle of. On XX/XX/2019, I was wired {$28000.00} USD from a family member assisting my family and I with medical expenses. Unfortunately, when sending the wire, my uncle left off the last digit of my account number -- all other information was correct such as spelling of my full name. My bank, Capital One Bank, deposited the money in the incorrect account ( identical to my account minus the last digit ). They have explained that they are under no obligation to check information on the wire and that they are not able to assist me in freezing/retrieving the money from this incorrect account. Capital One has closed its " investigation '' into the matter and is no longer willing to speak with me on the subject. They have indicated that they have not received a recall attempt from the sending bank, which I have multiple confirmation documents that recall attempts were sent via XXXX messaging ( basically the same way the original wire was sent -- successfully ). I have attempted to escalate this matter multiple times throughout XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX with no success. I've asked for help from Capital One Bank in explaining the proper procedure the sending bank should follow to ensure that the recall message is received, but they explained they did not know. I am speechless that a bank would allow this to happen and have no recourse to rectify this mistake. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the matter.

Closing your account

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Company closed your account
Complaint: Capital One closed my credit card account. They did so without advance notice. The account was current with a balance of {$53.00}. The closure shows up on my credit report as account closed by credit grantor which caused a significant drop in my credit score. This drop is now affecting my ability to get a mortgage as well as the interest rate that I will potentially qualify for. So, there are real damages to their actions. It took me five calls and four days to get in contact with someone at capital one to discuss this. I originally learned about it from an alert sent by my credit score monitoring company that notified me of a status change for one of my accounts ( Cap One account now showed as " Closed by Credit Grantor '' ) and a 38-point decline in my credit score. At this point, I had not been notified by Capital One and I had no idea what was causing the closure of my account. After several days of contacting Cap One, trying to find out why. Each time being told that their customer service people had no information. And the only way I could find out anything was to leave a message with some obscure department that does not answer calls. It took four attempts to get connected and to leave a message. Four days later, I received a call from someone from their executive resolution team. XXXX ID # XXXX, spoke with me on a recorded line. And basically, told me nothing. The woman read from a letter which, by her own admission had not been sent to me yet. Amazing!! The letter stated something to the effect that management closed my account because they were not happy with my usage patterns. I don't use the card much. And I pay it off as soon as I do. Obviously, I am not a meaningful customer to them, because I do not generate interest charges or fees. Furthermore, when I asked the person who called me If I could speak to her manager or any person of authority at Capital One. She gave her managers name but would not give his ID number and said she would not allow me to speak with him. She told me that closing the account was within their rights as per the cardmember agreement. Repeating that statement as well as other jarred answers. Telling me there was no one else to speak with and she could be no further help. I then asked for who I could write to or call. She told me my only recourse was to write a letter and send it to the general correspondence PO box . I then asked who regulated them, which she did not initially know. She paused and had to investigate. She also was unable to direct me on how to contact their regulator and make a formal complaint. She later directed me the CFPB but did now know how to contact the bureau. The fact that they managed this process so poorly is not my primary concern. Although I think it should concern the CFPB. I don't need the account. My issue is that they could have simply given me the opportunity to close it on my own for a period of time, before doing so themselves. Or report it to the credit bureau in such a way that was not so damaging to my credit profile. I am no risk to them and there was no need to act so abruptly without notification or considering the effect of their actions

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Unexpected increase in interest rate
Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX wrote letter to XXXX regarding an interest charged, and talking to customer service representation who told me they would charge interest on top of interest if not paid that day. XX/XX/XXXX received form letter back from them did not answer any of my questions XX/XX/XXXX called again about interest I was charged on a paid off account and was left on hold XX/XX/XXXX called again and was told I was on a fixed loan, which I never signed up for. Would not let me talk to anyone to get my interest money back ; XXXX told me that she would not escalate the call to her boss XXXX. XXXX hung up on me because I begin to ask a lot of questions she could not answer. XXXX has some how found a loop hole to charge the interest to people by changing the due date and cycle dates so that interest. As a customer this is totally unacceptable.

Confusing or misleading advertising or marketing

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit repair services

Complaint: I called Capital One on XX/XX/2019 to see if it was possible to have 2 of the hard inquires removed from my credit score. The representative got me over to a specialist who then stated that they were unable to remove any inquires and that I should get in contact with CFPB for further instructions. I gave the CFPB a call and was notified that they are unable to remove them as well and that the only option I have is to wait up until 2 years for them to be removed or file a complaint. The hard inquiry did come from me applying for a credit card to improve my credit score -- however the inquiry is affecting my credit score negatively. My score is significantly low from me making poor decisions when I was younger and I am trying all that I can to pick up that slack to maintain a decent credit score and be able to do some of the things I would like without having to be constantly reminded of how low my credit score is. I was wondering if there is any way that 1 or 2 of the hard inquires from Capital One can be removed from my credit history.

Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Investigation took more than 30 days
Complaint: I have attempted to speak to have my issues resolved through Capital One many times through their customer service representatives. Within this last week they have misinformed me and misled me many times. I always had issue with my online banking it was finally resolved last week, I was able to login after nearly 8 months without the service. In the month of XXXX I spoke to a Capital One representative, I fell under the impression that this representative had set up automatic payments for me, again during this call I asked for help with the online banking to no success. In the month of XXXX I noticed I late payment for the month of XXXX on my credit report, immediately I filed a dispute through XXXX, to this date I have not received a letter from Capital One regarding the dispute. I have tried over and over again to have Capital One representatives hear me out. I have been hung up on, and transferred endless times with each rep unwilling to assist me. I also attempted to submit dispute via U.S. Mail, with no response.

Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX XXXX billed {$640.00} to our Capital One credit card without our authorization or agreement to this specific charge. We immediately contacted Capital One and made our dispute. On XX/XX/XXXX, Capital One sent us a letter about this dispute. We then called and again spoke to Capital One, who asked us to go ahead and still make a statement in writing even though we have spoken to Capital One for the second time about this dispute. On XX/XX/XXXX, we made the statement in writing and faxed it to Capital One per their instructions. On or about a week after sending in our letter, we called Capital One to follow up. Capital One stated that YES, THEY WILL DO TWO THINGS : ( 1 ) CREDIT BACK THE FULL AMOUNT {$640.00} TO THE CARD AND ( XXXX ) CAPITAL ONE WILL ISSUE A NEW CREDIT CARD NUMBER. On XX/XX/XXXX, we still did not see the two things that Capital One stated that they would do so we called to follow up. A representative of Capital One named XXXX stated that she did not know why they had not credited back the account for the amount as they had said they would, but she offered to give us a {$100.00} credit and that would be all she could do! Of course, we disagreed to this offer and promptly requested to close our account. We now file this complaint to CFPB in order to ask that the Capital One to reimburse the full amount of {$640.00}.

Problem when making payments

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due
Complaint: Good day. I have a XXXX Mastercard which is sponsored by Capital One. Capital One, without my knowledge or consent, enrolled me their online only statement program. I never received a statement from them and was consequently late on a payment which they reported to the various credit agencies. When I did receive notice via email that I was late I contacted Capital One and they admitted it was a mistake that I was enrolled in their online only program. They reversed the late fees however they would not or could not remove the late payment reporting to the various credit reporting agencies

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Personal information incorrect
Complaint: I have been communicating with Capital One since XXXX about changing my name on my account. I was told to send over documents to prove I legally changed my name, I did send over the information and the name was changed on the account with new cards coming in the mail shortly after. I registered the card via the online system to make my payments, but then I was kicked out of the online system. For the last three years I have been calling and been transferred from department to department, everyone uses the wrong pronouns. I was in the hospital multiple times since XXXX and while I would like to keep my account payment up to date it has been hard to do when I have to call all the time just to pay. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke to XXXX who was supposed to help me change the information once and for all so that I can get on with my life. We were speaking to someone at XXXX XXXX named XXXX, while she was assistance us, XXXX from capital one hung up due to capital one closing and did not call me back. Now my account is very very out of date and the supervisors will not talk to me until I bring the account up to date, but the account has been maintained and its not my fault that no one will help me with my account information. I feel like they are not trying because of my gender identity. I was mailed new cards, I have been using the cards for years, I pay the bills under the name XXXX. What is the issue with helping me update my account. I want my account updated so that I can log on and pay and manage my bills. I think this going on for three years is unacceptable and capital one needs to help me. I can pay the bill, but why should I when you continue to discriminate against me.

Problem with balance transfer
Complaint: .On XX/XX/XXXX of this year, I contacted CapitalOne to find out how they are applying my payments to the 0 % balance transfers that I currently have. XXXX ( on XX/XX/XXXX no last name supplied ) and a XXXX ( on XX/XX/XXXX refused to give a last name ), both told me that most of the monies from the payments I made were applied to the 0 % that were due the soonest ( and were the oldest ). Yet as I looked over the last 6 statements, I saw that it was not occurring. And to complicate matters, CapitalOne admits to, and says corrected, a glich in their balance transfer system. I transferred {$2600.00} on XX/XX/XXXX as a 0 % transfer for 18 months, 3 % fee. Yet their software changed it to 25 % interest, no fee, on {$2600.00}. That has been corrected. BUT the big problem is that once the {$2600.00} was changed to 0 % ( with 3 % fees applied due XX/XX/XXXX ), all the monies that I sent to CapitalOne were now being applied to the {$2600.00}, not the {$4400.00} that was due to lose 0 % in XX/XX/XXXX. For the XXXX statement the amount was {$4400.00}, for XXXX the amount was {$4400.00} and then for XXXX the amount was {$4200.00}. Yet the 0 % due XX/XX/XXXX was now at {$950.00}. And the 0 % due XX/XX/XXXX is at {$3400.00} I budgeted out every 0 % balance transfer I made, yet the largest and soonest due was not applied the correct funds. And they refuse to rectify this problem. And I will have to come up with over {$3000.00} to keep from paying 25 % interest on the original amount of {$5000.00}
