Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I opened an online savings account with American Express National Bank. I linked it to one of my checking accounts at XXXX XXXX XXXX and submitted a XXXX $ transfer from XXXX XXXX to American Express. The next day XX/XX/XXXX I verified the trial deposit that American Express made and the transfer was initiated. After about a week I made another XXXX $ transfer from my checking account at XXXX XXXX to American Express. A few days after the second transfer I checked online and both transfers had been debited to my checking account at XXXX XXXX and the XXXX $ balance was now available at american express. On XX/XX/XXXX I opened a statement from American Express dated XX/XX/XXXX and I noticed that the two transfers had cleared on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX and that on XX/XX/XXXX there was a " Miscellaneous Withdrawal '' debit of XXXX $ and an ending balance of zero. Note that from XX/XX/XXXX until XX/XX/XXXX I was not contacted by American Express by mail, email or mobile phone number. On XX/XX/XXXX I called American Express and I asked what was going on. I was advised that my account had been closed. They didn't tell me the reason ( which I am fine with because I understand that they have the right to do so ) and they claimed that they didn't have to even notify me. I requested that they transfer back the money to XXXX XXXX or send me a check and they refused to do so, telling me to contact XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I then set up a conference call with the two banks. Then American Express asked XXXX XXXX to attempt to reverse the charge as if it were unauthorized. This is problematic because the charges WERE authorized by me and cleared properly from my bank. This is an outrageous behavior from a regulated bank. I don't contest their right to close my account but their refusal to refund me promptly my balance AND the accrued interest.

Complaint: I opened a business gold credit card through American Express in the name of our business, XXXX XXXX XXXX. My husband is the primary for the businesses and all our banking so I listed him as the primary cardholder. We hold everything separately - house, bank accounts ( except one ), utilities, etc. I then ordered another card for me under the same account. I handle the book keeping and purchasing for everything, whether it is in my name or not. One day, I couldn't use my card. I called and found out that they had frozen our account and the reason I was given was that it was because I use my card more than my husband does. That is true. I explained our arrangement. The man said that I should use my husband 's card for purchases, which seems odd to me. I reminded him that I have paid off our balance every month. He said the only way to prevent it from being canceled was to fax them a bunch of financial information - all the same things that we had sent in when applying for the cards. So I told him that we had sent all that and he said we had to do it again and they " might '' let us keep our cards. I didn't send it. I don't want to do business with someone who treats customers that way. Then, they started calling to see when we were going to pay off the last charge, but they wouldn't speak to me - even though my husband had told them to because I handle all that. But they would still call every day and then not speak to me. We didn't deserve what happened. I have closed other AmEx accounts we had. And the continuing harassment is ridiculous.

Complaint: My direct deposit is missing, it has been over two days and my employer says the transaction is still pending. It is now Tuesday ( XX/XX/19 ) at XXXX XXXX and I usually get my money Sunday night, XXXX Monday ( payday ) the latest. I called the # on back of card SEVERAL times, I only get the automated voice messaging system. I need to speak to an ACTUAL person to know WHY my money is not coming through. I called AMEX corporate and they tell me they can not help me. Shed many tears, cant pay some bills and may miss out on work this week because I have no money for gas to get there. I will be forced to take the appropriate legal action if this is not resolved.

Problem with customer service
Complaint: My first problem with AMEX started when I first opened my account and never received my card. I was able to purchase my course at XXXX XXXX XXXX of a little bit over $ XXXX online because they provided me a temporary card for online purchases. After the 10 days I was supposed to get my card, but that never happened. I called the customer service many times to complaint about but still I never got my card. Therefore, I paid my balance and cancelled my account with AMEX. However, on XX/XX/2019 one of my classes at XXXX XXXX EXTENSION was cancelled so I had a refund of {$930.00}. Because of the refund I contacted the customer service to have the amount transferred to my bank account and I was told that they were not able to make an online transfer to my XXXX XXXX bank account, so they would have to mail me a check of {$930.00}. It's been over a month and I have never received my check. I keep contacting them over the customer service to solve my problem and every time I call they make me go all over again to say they'll update my address and process a new check. I truly don't know what else to do. This has become a nightmare.

Complaint: The incident occurred on XX/XX/XXXX when I accidentally left my phone and and serve prepaid card at the store. The last transaction that I had made was at an atm in the amount of {$200.00}. Due to the fact that I was getting ready to go out of town ... and on my phone my XXXX account information was automatically saved into my phone. When I realized that I had left my phone and card I went back to the store to get it but it had been taken. When I returned from out of town that Monday the XXXX I reported and sent in the dispute form to serve and in the XX/XX/XXXXthey denied my dispute because XXXX said that these items were shipped to my address that I received them but when I look on my XXXX account it says items were left on front porch. I was out of town and then they caught one of them and returned item to shipper and it was received on the XX/XX/XXXX and I have yet to receive the refund for that item in the amount of XXXX. And my XXXX account is on hold because they withdrew payment for all of those items but at the same time there was also two charges made at XXXX XXXX to my card while I was out of town. I have filed a complaint with the XXXX XXXX XXXX as well asking to show proof that I made these purchases.

Complaint: American Express posted a payment to my account that was not initiated by me. I notified them immediately but was told nothing could be corrected until the payment was processed. The electronic payment from an unknown 3rd party bounced. I explained that it must have been a fraudulent attempt to steal that 3rd person 's money. Despite warning AmEx, they have sent me notices about my alleged bounced payment. I have lost certain card benefits and now charged a penalty interest rate ( although I pay my bill in full monthly ). Since this occurred on XX/XX/2019 I have had multiple telephone calls and emails trying to reverse this action for fear they would make a negative credit bureau reporting. I sent a detailed letter with attachments of all correspondence and form letters received on XX/XX/2019 asking for documentation about the alleged payment and that they acknowledge that the " bounced check '' was not from me. Other than paper form letters matching their prior emails, AmEx has not bothered to respond to my XX/XX/XXXX letter. I advised them that I would file a formal complaint is no response in 30. At AmEx 's suggestion, I changed the password on all my accounts and logins. There has been no similar incidents with any other of my credit cards or online accounts - only with AmEx.

Complaint: I received a refund from the merchant XXXX for XXXX. I contacted the merchants bank and it cleared as of yesterday. XXXX XXXX XXXX placed the credit back into my account but then charged my account a " Merchant Credit Hold for Review. '' in the exact amount of the credit that cleared. I feel this hold was unnecessary and causes me unjust finical strain. The transaction has been completed by the merchants bank and the hold is entirely XXXX XXXX XXXX. I feel I am due interest for each day XXXX XXXX withholds my XXXX of my balance from me. The hold on my account is for the exact amount of the credit.

Complaint: I am a customer of American Express credit card since XXXX. I have never had a payment problem with Amex.My current net worth in liquid assets is more than XXXX XXXX dollars. In XX/XX/XXXX, I submitted an application online for a Delta Skymiles Platinum Card issued by American Express. Amex denied the application stating that there was an instance where a payment was returned to American Express by my bank. I had a typo on my account number when I set up a new bank account for payment of Balance Due on the Amex Statement. I had rectified the problem immediately. I called the Amex 800 number and explained the situation and pointed out that I had been member since XXXX and that until very recently I had an Amex Platinum Card. I have never had a payment problem.They said they will review and let me know. I received a regret letter by US Mail dated XX/XX/XXXX. I called the Amex XXXX number and talked to a woman who would only give her first name XXXX. I wanted to know who made the decision and if I could speak to the person. She said that is not possible. I informed her that I will submit a complaint with CFPB. She said some one will get back to me. No one has.

Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, I attempted to withdraw {$40.00} from my American Express Serve prepaid card at the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) ATM located at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, VA XXXX. The ATM was unable to print receipts, and then encountered an error dispensing the money ( and dispensed nothing ). I disregarded it, expecting the funds to remain in my account, and used another nearby ATM to make my withdrawal. On XX/XX/2019, the {$40.00} failed withdrawal posted to my account and I contacted Serve customer support, who transferred me to the dispute department. I explained the situation and they processed the claim. At no time was a provisional credit issued. I received a dispute form in my email on XX/XX/2019, and completed it and attempted to upload it multiple times from multiple computers and separate networks to no avail ; I did not report the website failure to Serve. I ended up faxing the form back on XX/XX/2019, but received no acknowledgement of receipt from Serve. On XX/XX/2019, I received an email from Serve stating that they had completed their investigation and that " [ t ] he ATM provider confirmed the funds were dispensed for the amount requested. '' I contacted them the same day and requested the documents from the investigation, which consisted solely of a one page XXXX " Transaction Research '' screenshot with the transaction details ( attached ). I went to the XXXX branch where the ATM was located and inquired on XX/XX/2019, and was told they had no information and wouldn't have any information until the ATM 's transactions were reconciled at the end of the month. The representative took my information and said she'd pass it along to the relevant department for followup at such time. If the financial institution hasn't reconciled the transactions, I don't see how Serve can have reached any conclusion, nonetheless one that the funds were dispensed when clearly they were not. XXXX itself said they lacked transaction information, so Serve 's conclusion seems bizarre at best and malicious at worst.

Complaint: Hi, I got approval for Gold Delta miles card from American Express on XX/XX/2019. The terms for promotion is so simple. I can get XXXX Delta miles if I use $ XXXX in 3 months. So I met the requirement for spending in XX/XX/2019. Till XXXX, I couldn't see the promotion miles on Delta site. The payments were not posted as directed over the phone, the exact balance of the amex bill was deducted from my state Bank account. for a total of XXXX.
