Complaint: Dear Amex, Thank you for your reply. I feel your missing the main point here. My contention is that with adequate internal controls, a scam like this would not be possible. All credit card companies already have similar controls in place to protect against and combat regional charges that are impossible over a short time frame as well other anomalous account activity. Why can't American Express implement internal controls to prevent account holders from purchasing exorbanant amounts of gift cards over a short period of time when it's not even XXXX. Nobody, in good judgment, would buy {$5000.00} worth of gift cards even at XXXX, unless they were under duress and facing the undue influence of a scammer. Why can't American Express understand this concept and recognize the need for internal controls to address this? Sadly, as I've stated before, Senior Citizen cardholders are victims of this type of scam all the time and I feel American Express is not practicing the due diligence needed to protect these Seniors. I feel this is a complete failure of leadership at American Express to not address this matter with the proper internal controls. But I'm certain after enough people become victims and complain, American Express will eventually address this matter after losing enough customers and in turn enough money! What would share holders think about their investments in a house of cards? I feel this dire situation should be escalated top management. In the meantime, I am once again requesting that you implement a series of internal controls to protect American Express customers and I would like these charges that were predicated upon fraud written off from my account balance. I understand such an initiative would be very expensive for AMEX, and I would gratiously settle for these charges to be removed from my account balance. But make no mistake, I implore AMEX to do the right thing and protect it's customers with the above mentioned internal controls as I feel the way this has been handled thus far has been a cruel farce! Clearly Amex has a huge hole in the bucket which needs to be plugged! Please govern your company accordingly. Thank you,

Complaint: To whom it may concern, I am filing a complaint on American Express. On XX/XX/19 I received a letter from XXXX XXXX PA. Attorneys at law claiming to represent American Express. On that letter they claim that I owe American Express {$18000.00}. On XX/XX/19 I wrote a letter requesting certain info including copies of the contact where I signed the agreement regarding this claim. According to the FCRA its there obligation to supply the requested info. On XX/XX/19 I recieved a response from XXXX XXXX PA. There response was attaching many statements and a generic Member Card Services Agreement they didn't include the actual binding contract showing offer and acceptance. On XX/XX/19 I wrote a letter requesting once again for them to send me the actual binding contract showing offer and accpetance with my signature. On XX/XX/19 I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX Basically offering me an American Express Card as long as I would pay {$18000.00} in full. In other words ignoring my request and continuing to try to get {$18000.00} from me without providing any proof that contract. I have attached document in reference to this. Thank you for your time.

Complaint: On XX/XX/19 I purchased 2 plane tickets on the American Express Travel web site using all the American Express loyalty points I had available ( XXXX points ). The purchase with the points was confirmed ( see attachment ). I had contacted American Express Travel after the purchase to ask when the points will be applied because they were not immediately removed from my points balance. The rep stated that it could take a few days before the points are applied. On XX/XX/19 ( 20 days later ), I noticed that American Express had taken the next payment scheduled from my checking account and it included the full amount of the plane tickets that were paid with the points. On XX/XX/19 I called American Express and explained the problem, the rep had to transfer me to another rep at American Express Travel. I was transferred and explained the problem to the new rep. I was placed on hold for some time ( about 1 hour ) while that rep was following up on the issue. Eventually she came back and stated that there was an internal error applying the points and that I had to be transferred to a supervisor to rectify the problem. I was then placed on hold for some time and after a while the rep stated that I can continue to wait or get a call back. I agreed to the call back, but I never got a call back. I called American Express Travel that evening XXXX XX/XX/19 XXXX and had to start over explaining the situation to a new rep. I was then told that I again needed to be transferred to a supervisor. The rep took my call back phone number in case I got disconnected. I was then placed on hold for a long time ( over 40 minutes ) and no answer. I had to hang up because I had an appointment to go to. I never got a call back. I called American Express Travel again on the morning of XX/XX/19. I got a new rep who again took my call back number and after I explained my situation, he proceeded to transfer me to a supervisor. Again, no answer after waiting on hold for 45 minutes. I had to hang up. No call back. I am certain you would agree that I should not keep calling to get nowhere, I have attempted three times already. This is why I am filing a complaint. I had decided to book my plane tickets with American Express Travel in order to use my points. I even paid more for the tickets ( about {$200.00} more ) than if I had booked them with another agency. Not only did American Express fail to use my points ( even though I have a confirmation ), they proceeded to take the funds from my checking account for the full amount of the tickets. And since it has been very difficult to reach to the right person to rectify the issue.

Complaint: I have made all my payments on time and above the minimum payment every time. However, some of the payments I have made have not been applied to my account for months now. On the other hand, there are some withdrawals from my bank account by AMEX that I did not process and they are not applied to my account either. A dispute has been opened for one of the {$40.00} payments for over a month now. A new investigation has been opened for the others, but no explanation as to why or how were the payments process/withdrawn from the bank account without our request. The payments are made using my mother 's bank account as she is my account. Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, I made a referral via email to my husband from my XXXX XXXX Rewards card. My husband chose the XXXX XXXX XXXX card. After 4 weeks, I chatted with American Express to inquire when the referral bonus would post. American Express then acknowledged that the referral had been captured and to wait an additional 2 weeks and that they would open an investigation. I have checked back every 2 weeks, and each time there has been excuse after excuse of why the points have not posted. 4 weeks ago, I was told the reason the points had not posted was because my husband chose a different card than the one referred from. This is false as it says right on American Express 's website that the receiver can choose any card they like. The chat representative then backtracked and said they'd escalate the investigation. Today, I chatted with American Express and was escalated to a supervisor. The supervisor said that the points were not applied because my husband chose a different card. This is unacceptable for the representatives AND supervisors to not even know their own policy on referrals. I sent their own website to the supervisor and she said would open a NEW investigation taking another 6-8 weeks. American Express offered a referral bonus of XXXX points if referring from my XXXX XXXX Rewards card. I referred from the card to my husband, he was approved. The referral happened and was captured on XX/XX/2019. It is now XX/XX/XXXX, and I'm being told to wait until the end of XX/XX/XXXX for something that should have been handled within a week or so. American Express, please manually credit me these points so I can be satisfied with your service once again.

Complaint: I had five cards open with American Express and nearly 150,000 Membership Rewards points ( worth ~ {$3000.00} ), earned through spend and the proper fulfillment of many promotional offers over the past 7 years. As far as I'm aware, I have not once violated American Express 's terms and services or even missed a payment. I was notified today that all of my cards have been canceled and that my points have been forfeited because they detected that I was " gaming the system ''. Customer service assured me that there is no way they will give me these points back and was unwilling to tell me how or when I violated their terms. I think that it is improper for a large US bank to take {$3000.00} away from a customer and not tell them why or give them any avenue towards rectifying the situation.

Never have I experienced such rudeness from their customer service department as well as a hold they are talking about for seven to ten days. I have a prepaid Visa and Master Card as soon as a return hits my card it is credited. I called Amex due to TWO returns one in the amount of {$26.00} and the other {$67.00}. This is inexcusable, I work hard and have Direct Deposit every pay period to this account. I need to get gas for next week and because American Express Bluebird rudeness, I may have to catch a ride with a friend or stay home. They can not even explain what Merchant Hold Means. I will redirect my Direct Deposit to my regular bank and cancel this card. This is horrible treatment.

Complaint: I have not used this card since XX/XX/XXXX, paying the balance in full on XX/XX/XXXX. When I logged in on XX/XX/XXXX to see that everything was in order, I saw a balance of {$150.00} and a notice that my account was " past due. '' The accrued charges include several from a fraudulent company called XXXX, who I first reported and disputed on XX/XX/XXXX. American Express decided the dispute in my favor and acknowledged the charge was fraudulent, but DID NOT replace my card or change my number, and failed to block future charges as I was charged again the next month. After much correspondence, American Express finally agree to block this company, yet now it seems I have continued to be charged and American Express has apparently reported me for late payment at their own error. The charges also included fees, due to the banks own error, and an additional fraudulent charge using my card - likely initiated by this same company. Since XX/XX/XXXX I have repeatedly attempted to dispute the charges and report the fraud, but have " encountered an error ' on every single attempt and have been put on ridiculously long holds every time I've tried calling.

Complaint: We had two American Express credit cards. We noticed charges on both cards that were not ours. We contacted Amex to inquire/discuss. During our telephone call with Amex we were told that our replacement credit cards had been mailed, did we receive them. Problem-we did NOT request new credit cards NOR did we ever receive new credit cards. The Amex rep provided an address where these credit cards were sent-it was NOT our address. It became clear, very clear, that someone fraudulently obtained these credit cards in our names and used them to make purchases. We continuously tried to explain and work with American Express regarding these fraudulent purchases. We were initially told we were NOT responsible for the charges-based on the fact that they sent these credit cards to these thieves, not us. We again made it clear that we NEVER requested, wanted, used these replacement credit cards! We acknowledged that SOME charges may be ours and that absolutely we would be responsible for these charges. We asked for detailed Billings from the inception of the credit cards to the current date. We only received partial information. To date we have NEVER received a complete report of charges. Now American Express is trying to take us to court to pay for charges that were made fraudulently!! This has been and is extremely upsetting and frightening! Our credit has been severely damaged. We feel that we have no rights, no protection against American Express. Thank You, XXXX and XXXX XXXX
