Complaint: I have had a personal American Express Green Card since 1996. My payments are on time and up to date. I currently had a balance due of {$810.00} for XX/XX/XXXX. But without any prior notice or warning, my account was closed on XX/XX/XXXX. I learned of this when I went to my online account. On XX/XX/XXXX, I had a message to call their XXXX number. I called and the representative said it was a mistake " because someone reported fraud. ". the rep said my card was fine. When I checked my online account two days later, my account said 'CLOSED '. I made at least 3 different phone calls. At first, no one could tell me why my account was closed. Then, the rep forwarded me to another department for help. On XX/XX/XXXX, I spent 90 minutes on the phone with many different reps to ascertain what happened and why. I finally got an answer to why was my card cancelled " this was a business decision ''. the rep said I would receive a letter. I received a letter two days later with a very short explanation stating " your card was used for unintended purposes. '' Both my daughter 's and husband 's card was also cancelled. They did not receive any letter. The AMX letter is inaccurate and false accusation. I have NEVER used the card for an unintened purpose. I use the card properly. <P/>I really think this is outrageous that this can be done. I want to know what was the business decision. <P/>thanks so much for your help.

Unexpected increase in interest rate
Complaint: I just wanted to notify CFPB of an issue I just dealt with at American Express in hopes others might benefit. I made a payment to American Express that was cleared at my bank on XX/XX/XXXX which is one ( 1 ) day before the payment due date of XX/XX/XXXX. American Express credited my account for the payment on XX/XX/XXXX and proceeded to charge me a {$38.00} late fee and {$0.00} finance charge, as well as raise my interest rate on the card. After I contacted the company about the discrepancy, the company agent informed me that the company had issues recently with a 3rd party contractor that applied payments late to many customer accounts. I was refunded and my account returned to its original condition. However, I received no prior notification of this issue at any time and I can only wonder how many other members have not had time to review their financial statements like I did. I always receive my bill notifications by email on time, but somehow when the company erred, the members were not notified.

Complaint: On XXXX/XXXX/XXXX, my American Express ( AMEX ) account was charged for a purchase I did not authorize. AMEX allowed a purchase to be made in the amount {$840.00}. The charge was for a software subscription from XXXX XXXX. I was not contacted by AMEX which is my request that I always be notified of a transaction that is large ( $ ) and any transaction where my card is not present. For every transaction that I have made on my account AMEX abides by my wishes-except in this case. I have disputed it since XXXX and each dispute has terminated with AMEX accepting the XXXX argument that this is a subscription and they have my card number. The card number used is not my card number. The person named as the subscriber is " XXXX ''. That is not my name. AMEX continues to ask me to resolve the matter with XXXX XXXX. I can not. I have no status with XXXX, and I can not get past their initial screen with a PIN since I do not have a subscription to this software. In fact, it seems nobody does. " XXXX '' is unreachable. My ability to handle this matter is stifled by AMEX 's inability to accept my arguments and my inability to deal with XXXX sales to try to resolve.

Complaint: In XXXX of 2017, I applied for ( thought I was applying for ) a credit card. When I filled out the necessary paperwork, I heard back from a representative from American Express right away. She ( the representative ) had informed me that I was approved for the American Express premier awards gold card. It was not adequately explained that I was getting a charge card and NOT a credit card, which is what I had applied for and asked her for. The representative did tell me at the end of our conversation that the card would need to be paid off, but I misunderstood ( again, thinking I was getting a credit card ). I assumed she was telling me it was prudent practice to pay off the card as soon as I received a statement. The cardmember agreement paperwork and the card I received in the mail made no mention of it being a charge card and not a credit card. It was n't until after I had received a few statements that I realized there was no minimum payment option. When I called American Express to inquire about this lack of option, it was only then that a representative explained to me that I actually had a charge card and not a credit card ... and explained the difference to me. I was told that the only way I could change this would be to reapply for another one of their cards. I 'd have to let them use my SSN ( again ) and run another credit check ... which slightly reduces my credit score each time. I was ignorant, but also taken advantage of. I 'm not pleased by this and after I 've made the necessary payments, I will be closing my charge card with American Express and seeking an actual credit card with another company.

Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I applied for an American Express Delta Airlines Skymiles credit card from a promotion that was mailed to me. The promotion was XXXX. I still have the mailer that was sent to me which expired on XX/XX/XXXX. The terms of the promotion were that by spending {$2000.00} on the card, XXXX miles would be applied to your Skymiles account. Spend another {$1000.00} ( {$3000.00} total ) within the first 3 months of card membership and receive an additional XXXX miles ( total XXXX miles ). <P/>I contacted customer service and requested an investigation. The Case # is XXXX. after several weeks of not receiving a response I called Customer service today XX/XX/XXXX at around XXXX EDT and the agent informed me that I did not meet the spending threshold. When I protested, she said she " misspoke '' and then informed me that I had actually applied to a different promotion that awarded XXXX bonus miles. How I could have applied for a different promotion is unclear since I applied through the number that was in the mailer with my skymiles card number. <P/>I believe I was misled by American Express and have cancelled my card.

Complaint: Creditor Name : American Express Account number : # XXXX American Express and the 3 credit bureaus ( XXXX , XXXX and XXXX ) have been and are reporting inaccurate information on my credit report. I have been damaged and denied credit because of the inaccurate information reported by American Express and the 3 credit bureaus. American Express and the 3 credit bureaus have been and are reporting my account as managed by credit counseling program which is not true. I called, contacted American Express and the 3 credit bureaus through certified mail and fax and disputed the inaccurate information multiple times in XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX but American Express and the 3 credit bureaus insisted in breaking the law and violating FCRA ( Fair Credit Reporting Act ) and reporting inaccurate information on my credit report. The furnisher of this inaccurate information is American Express. I sent certified mail and provided the evidence ( the termination letter from the credit counseling agency ) to American Express and all the 3 credit bureaus that this account was and is still a regular account and not managed by credit counseling program since XX/XX/XXXX. I waited more than 30 days to have the verifiable proof from American Express or all the 3 credit bureaus of their inaccurate information and I didnt receive it from all of them. Since neither American Express nor all 3 credit bureaus have any verifiable proof of their inaccurate information and it has been more than 30 days since they received the dispute, according to Fair Credit Reporting Act 15 U.S. Code Sec. 1681i ( a ) the account mentioned above should be deleted immediately. Complaint: I was a loyal member of the Delta Skymiles American Express Credit Card for several years, and I recently had the unfortunate experience of finding several thousand dollars of fraudulent charges on my credit card. I submitted a fraud claim to American Express and they promptly handled the situation. This was subsequently followed by an investigation. <P/>During the investigation I was asked a series of questions which I answered and over the course of the investigation, the merchant where the fraudulent charges came from was unable to generate any documentation that could substantiate that these were in fact valid charges. <P/>To my surprise, the AMEX fraud team member informed me that they would not be removing these charges from my account. I asked if they could do that given that no documentation was provided from the merchant and she could not answer the question. I then asked to speak to her manager- I spoke with her manager and her manager was also unable to answer the question " can you reinstate charges on a fraudulent claim when no supporting documentation was provided by the merchant? ". So I then asked to speak to her supervisor. Her supervisor left me a voicemail when I was out of town on business and by the time I returned they decided my case was closed and put the charges back on my account. <P/>I was never given the chance to speak to the supervisor and be given a fair chance to discuss the fraud process. It seems that AMEX was eager to close it out and did not wish to involve me as much as I felt was fair and necessary as the consumer claiming several thousand dollars of fraudulent charges. Furthermore, I feel that, because these were NOT my charges and there is no documentation to support them, I should not be held liable for paying for them. As a responsible person I am writing this not only because I feel this is unjust, but also because I want to pay my bills, and I certainly want to pay AMEX whatever is owed to them. Complaint: I made purchase using my American express credit card, when I received my bill I sent a payment of {$5000.00} and the check was cleared, from my XXXX XXXX account, i then sent another check # XXXX for another {$5000.00} on XXXX XXXX 2017, American express, then sent me a notice that my check was returned unpaid, i then contacted the bank, and the bank told me there is no record of any attempt to endorse the check, and the money is available, i then contacted American again and spoke to a manager, she told me it will be resolved, and they will try to endorse the check to get the money, but they never did, then sent me an invoice, including the payment i already made for the {$5000.00} and interest and finance charge for the entire amount, the money is still awaiting for American to take from the bank.

Complaint: I recently filed a chapter XXXX Bankruptcy on X/XX/2017. After American Express was informed of the filing they disputed all the charges that I have made 6 months leading up to the filing. These charges range from gas station purchases, dining, utilities etc. I called and tried to speak to AMEX about the issue and no one wants to assist or help me. This practice is unlawful and I need to know what to do in order to resolve this matter ASAP. My internet, cable, and cellphone have been disconnected and the accounts are pending disconnection. Can someone reach out to American Express on my behalf and have them retract these disputed charges that has been wrongfully executed.

Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship
Complaint: I have been a member of American Express since XXXX. I have always paid them on time, without any problems. However American Express put my wife on the account without our knowledge and that lead to more problems. My wife 's Identity was stolen and because my American Express Account was in her name too, these criminals had access to my American Express Account as well. After all these years, having the XXXX Card and The XXXX Card, they are treating me as a criminal and embarrassing me where I live. American Express called our neighbor, Mrs. XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, TX, XXXX at XXXX. This was so embarrassing, and against Federal Law. This is also a violation of my privacy. If American Express had not put my wife on my account without my knowledge or consent, I would n't be having this problem. Furthermore, I made arrangements to pay back American Express by paying them {$200.00} on the XXXX Card and {$200.00} on the XXXX card a month, but this is not acceptable, because their employees do not have the authority to do anything but harass customers. The F.B.I. has contacted them about my wife 's situation, but American Express chooses to ignore them and continue to harass me, and violate Federal law.
