Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: 1. I disputed a charge of XXXX ( made on X/X/2017 ) on my account because I had returned the items and the merchant had not provided me with the credit for all items returned.
2. XXXX opened a dispute for the entire amount of the charge. When the merchant provided a partial refund of {$720.00} onXX/XX/XXXX, XXXX closed the dispute and opened a new dispute for {$720.00} - the amount refunded - NOT the amount of {$940.00} that was still under dispute from the merchant.
3. Additionally, XXXX then reapplied the original amount of the charge to my statement on XX/XX/XXXX so my payment due reflected a charge of {$1600.00} on XX/XX/XXXX and a charge of {$1600.00} on XX/XX/XXXX.
4. By reapplying the charge in the month following the original charge, both transactions totaling XXXX were reflected in my payment due.
5. I contacted XXXX once by phone to ask them to remove the duplicate transaction of XXXX on XX/XX/XXXXand said that the amount due on my account was inaccurate because it included both charges. Customer service said it would be looked into and nothing has happened.
6. I continued to work with the merchant to resolve the issue. On XX/XX/XXXX, the merchant provided me with a refund for {$810.00}, and I considered to dispute to be resolved.
7. I contacted XXXX in late XXXX and in early XXXX via the chat on their website to request that they close the outstanding dispute with the merchant because the merchant had provided me a refund. Their website does not permit me to close the dispute online - it requires me to call them to do so.
8. XXXX does not provide a secure message center to contact customer service. They require that you call them ( which can take upwards of half an hour after being on hold, transferred, and there can be some difficulty in communicating with customer service reps particularly when located in another country or that do not have any authority to review or make changes to the account ). They also offer a chat and you can message them through twitter.
9. The dispute has not been closed, and XXXX have placed my card on hold because I have not paid the amount of {$3800.00}, which includes the duplicate charges. Additionally, the {$3800.00} amount does not include payments made to the account sinceXX/XX/XXXX.
10. The website states : " Please make a payment. If you are unable to make payment in full, view payment options. We will evaluate your account to restore your charging privileges when we receive payment for at least {$3800.00}. This amount does not reflect payments made since Tue. XX/XX/XXXX. '' 11. This accounting results in unfair and onerous payments and penalties. Even if I had made payment of {$3800.00} onXX/XX/XXXX, according to American Express, my account would still be in collection and on hold.
12. Since XX/XX/XXXX 2017, I have made payments of {$1200.00}. Also, the {$3800.00} charge includes the duplicate charge of XXXX that was placed on my account by American Express ( the original charge, as noted, was on XXXX XXXX ), and the {$3800.00} does not reflect the {$810.00} refund that was provided by the merchant on XX/XX/XXXX
13. The payment due also does not reflect other refunds to my account since XX/XX/XXXX. I received a refund for a charge of {$270.00} on XXXXXX/XX/XXXX that is not reflected in total due of {$3800.00}, whereas the original charge of {$270.00} is included. A refund should offset the original charge resulting in a net zero amount due.
14. By my accounting, the total due is closer to approximately {$1100.00} after the XXXX amount due is reduced by 1 ) XXXXXXXX ( erroneous charge on XX/XX/XXXXthat should be reversed ), 2 ) the XXXX refund on XX/XX/XXXX and 3 ) the XXXX refund on XX/XX/XXXX. As stated, I have made payment in the amount of {$1200.00} on XX/XX/XXXX andXX/XX/XXXX.
15. XXXX has charged me late fees and forfeited my American Express points for the months of XXXX and XXXX while these items were under dispute and after I had contacted them.
16. XXXX also refuses to close the {$720.00} dispute on my account. Please note that I did not open this dispute - American Express did - without verifying the information with me. Thus, the dispute is in the wrong amount and after I had resolved the issue with the merchant directly, American Express refuses to close the dispute.

Problem with fees
Complaint: My American Express bill was due on XX/XX/XXXX. The total due was {$29.00}. Admittedly, I forgot to pay the bill on time and did not pay it until XX/XX/XXXX. The late fee for a {$29.00} charge is {$27.00}, which is almost a late fee of 100 %. I would say that this is usurious, but it 's not an interest rate. It is, however, unfair and abusive.
Please investigate them and have the charge removed from my account. This ridiculous. I have had an account with American Express for 24 years and have never been late. The fee is completely disproportionate to the bill. Rather than set fees, perhaps they should charge a percentage, like mortgage companies.

Complaint: American Express XXXX just closed my account XXXX days ago without giving me XXXX single reason. I tried to know the reason, but I failed to know why. I have been a loyal customer since XXXX till today. Never missed a payment, and I always pay on time. I have a high XXXX XXXX. Had almost XXXX in rewards miles, and paid off the balance every month. Would n't give me any specific reason. I 'm furious! Is this because they have n't made interest off of us in all XXXX years? Is that how they treat their loyal customers? I really feel disappointed.

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I authorized a check with Bluebird by American Express for {$1000.00} that I mailed to my landlord for my rent payment for the month of XX/XX/XXXX.
On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email indicating that there was a stop payment that I never initiated or authorized..
Bluebird gave me a very nonsensical excuse about the handwriting on the check being illegible which is not correct since I have been authorizing checks for four years as a consumer with their product with no prior issues. In order to write a check on the Bluebird account one must have the funds pre-authorized in advance and which an authorization code is processed and my landlord had no problem depositing the check to her account. It took Bluebird by American Express almost 2 weeks to send me this type of notification that the funds were stopped which is very disturbing and is now costing me to be late on my rent and I will absorb a bunch of fees in the process for the financial penalties imposed by my landlord

Complaint: This complaint is in reference to complaint XXXX also AMEX reference Ref : XXXX in the final response, AMEX states that I have received the total XXXX MR points. which was incorrect.
AMEX issued me XXXX bonus points, then another XXXX. But the XXXX points was taken back. I have attached the pdf for reference.
In addition, when I contacted AMEX, they explicitly told me that I could retroactively submit the mailer to have my original 100k offer applied ( another lie ).
This is my final attempt with CFPB and if this is not resolved in my favor, i will be continue escalating this via other channels including but not limited to my local small claims court.Note, It literally takes 5 minute to look over my MR points history to know that the XXXX points was taken back.

Problem during payment process
Complaint: I had a fraudulent charge on my checking account with my bank XXXX XXXX. They resolved the problem and transferred my money to a new account number. I provided authorization for them to pay my American Express credit card. I sent multiple emails and phone calls to make sure they allow the payment to go through. I never received a response and a couple weeks later American express informed me the payment was denied. The lack of responsiveness from XXXX XXXX had me remove my assets and transfer them to a XXXX banking account. I called American Express and let them know that I switched banks due to this rejection. I informed the representative that I will be paying from a new account. At the same time I informed the representative that I would like to make a payment to pay my credit card balance in full at the time of XXXX XXXX since my original payment was denied. The representative let me know what my balance was and I authorized the payment. During the same conversation I kept confirming with the representative from American Express that my balance was zeroed out. He confirmed and stated that since I have made this payment my next payment would not be due until XXXX. In the last week of XXXX I went on American Express online to make a payment and it was showing that my balance was unusually high. I called to find out if there was a mistake. They informed me that my balance was high due to me not making a payment in XXXX or XXXX, which is false as there is a taped conversation stating my balance was at XXXX. American Express now stated that XXXX and XXXX were not paid and late fees were applied. I explained that my call on XXXX XXXX their representative confirmed that I made my payment and I was at a XXXX balance. On my most recent call the new representative told me my payment was only for the month of XXXX. My intention of my call on XXXX XXXX was to inform American Express of the change in bank accounts and make a payment to pay the full balance of my credit card-which I was told I did and confirmed many times. American Express is now saying that I did not make a full payment on XXXX XXXX. My complaint is for the deception and misinformation American Express provided me and if in fact my call on XXXX XXXX to make a payment was only for XXXX why was I told I had paid my complete balance? I was also told on my XXXX XXXX call that since I made a full balance payment my next payment would n't be due until XXXX. The new representative told me I was just given false information and would not resolve the problem. The call in XXXX was and should have zeroed my balance as confirmed by the representative from American Express on the XXXX XXXX call.
I told the representative in my XXXX call that if I was given false information why was n't I informed properly. If in fact the payment I made only paid a balance through XXXXwhy would the representative tell me otherwise. He clearly stated that I was paid through XXXX and had a zero balance and even said there will be no XXXX payment! -because I was misinformed, I was charged a late fee and now have a balance a lot higher than what it should be. This has now burden me financially as my newest statement should of reflected payments from XXXX XXXX and beyond. Instead it is a lot higher as they stated XXXX and XXXX was never paid. American Express denied any wrong doing.
Do not use American Express as their deceitfullness put me in a tough situation. My complaint stems from being falsely told I paid my full balance, would skip a month and only charged from XXXX XXXX and beyond.

Complaint: As I moved through my marriage separation and divorce in XXXX I was unable to pay my bills including over {$2700.00}. I owed to American Express. After I received my settlement from my ex-husband on XXXX XXXX, XXXX I then had enough money to pay off in full my American Express debt. I called American Express that month and told them on the phone that I wanted to pay off the whole debt amount. The representative told me they would not accept a full payoff, only a monthly payment of {$170.00} per month for a period of years. I was shocked, and repeated to him my offer to pay the bill in full. For a second time, the American Express representative told me they would not accept a full payoff from me. This was unfair to me because I had the money to pay in full but they would not take it. I feel I was discriminated against.
I spoke with American Express later in spring XXXX and discussed this matter again. This time, American Express told me that it was a misunderstanding that they would take payment in full. But by then it was too late. I didnt have the money any more. Since that time, American Express has sent me numerous letter stating that I can pay off my debt in full if I want to. This was no misunderstanding. I am sure and positive what American Express said to me, and I was lied to.

Complaint: I have a balance on my XXXX XXXX American Express card of approximately {$10000.00}. I have been late on payment in the past, but not severely late. I now find out that they are charging me 29.9 % interest on my remaining balance. That rate far exceeds the criminal usury rate in New York as provided in XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX.
I called XXXX in the hope that they would agree to some reasonable rate of interest until I could pay of the balance. They declined to do so.

Complaint: Delta sky miles American Express card Signed up for card with delta agent at airport for XXXX miles -also received delta mailing with XXXX offer ( thought it was welcome kit ) also received card and separate mailing with pin. when I called to activate card and confirm I received offer of XXXX miles with $ XXXX purchase in 1st 90 days - Advised by Amex rep I only have XXXX mile offer - and she could/would not change - I asked for manager - she advised none avail all in meetings. After over 30 min requesting correct offer and supervisor - rep advised she would file case for me. She advised it would take 8 weeks - ironically- offer would expire by time case resolved - I feel I have been deceived and scammed. Rep not helpful and not willing to escalate to supervisor. I requested supervisor call back after XXXX XXXX next biz day - recvd call at XXXX XXXX - advised I could not take call during work - asked for number to call back and supvr name - advised she would/could not give her number and I requested call at XXXX Now XXXX XXXX no call from Amex - i feel this is extremely deceptive - classic bait and switch - offered one promotion and not enrolled properly - I offered details and still denied the appropriate offer. Amex case process does takes 8 weeks so participants can not earn XXXX reward. Big company making it so difficult to resolve issue that consumers give up! Please help consumers stop the bullying by big financial services companies!

Complaint: I am on the active military duty from XXXX XXXX. I and my husband ( XXXX XXXX ) get approved for SCRA benefit for our XXXX platinum cards XXXX and XXXX. The SCAR approved letter clearly stated that our billing for annual membership fee will be waived for the duration of my XXXX XXXX. We both paid the annual fee for XXXX $ on XXXX XXXX and that means this annual fee cover from XXXX XXXX to XXXX XXXX. Since my XXXX XXXX starts in XXXX XXXX, XXXX should refund part of our annual fee based on SCRA act since I join XXXX XXXX on XXXX XXXX, XXXX. I also check with the representative when I submit the SCRA application in XXXX and she told me the annual fee will be refund prorated from my start of XXXX XXXX after SCRA approved. My XXXX XXXX card already waives the part of the annual fee I paid early this year so I do n't pay the annual fee after XXXX XXXX due to SCRA act. I do n't understand why XXXX is handling totally different and refuse to refund half year annual fee when I am on XXXX XXXX based on SCRA. I talked with XXXX representative and they are really not willing to help on this issue and ask me to file the complaint to their corporate office. This is really not the service we expected.
