Complaint: I was late on a payment in XX/XX/XXXX on my American Express card. They raised the rate to a " Penalty APR '' of 29.99 %. It won't automatically decrease to the typical rate around 17 %. I was late again in XX/XX/XXXX and they are saying they won't even consider dropping the rate for another month - and only then I must show " stability ''. I've been with them since XX/XX/XXXX. I'm struggling financially and last month was charged {$1100.00} in interest. How is it possible a rate can be jacked up so high on a late payment.
