Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Complaint: I opened amex gold credit card on XX/XX/XXXX when I saw they offering XXXX welcome bonus with XXXX purchase within first 3 months. After I spent more than XXXX using this card, I still didnt receive the reward. So I contacted them today, XX/XX/XXXX. they told me they canceled my welcome bonus and refused to give me a reason other than copying the terms, which none of them applys to me. I did not receive any form of notification about i am not going to receive the bonus. Therefore, I highly doubt whether they really want to reward their customers, or this is just a false advertising. I'm upside now because I have been their card member for years and now they are taking advantage of me and lying to me like this. I'm really disappointed with how they treat their customer and seeking helps from you. Thank you for any kind of help.

Complaint: I bought a return plane ticket through amextravel with points. Separately charged by the airline. I was stuck in XXXX with no way home, ended up spending XXXX to get home and amex 's dispute resolution team determined it was not their fault the ticket was cancelled but rather XXXX. I have not received a resolution from either company.

Charged too much interest
Complaint: I have been a member of American Express since XX/XX/2004. They raised my interest when my financial situation changed, and my credit score dropped. I contacted AMEX today, and asked for a lower interest. I think now that my credit score has gone up, and I have never make a late payment in the last 14 years I would qualify for a lower interest. I was insulted by their customer service representative, and I was told that it was my fault that I was paying so much interest. I was told by him that if I didn't want to pay interest not to spend money of pay my credit in full every month, because it's all my fault. HE SHAMED ME

Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: I was approved for the XXXX XXXX American Express credit card which had a bonus of XXXX reward points with {$5000.00} in purchases within first 3 months. I called up the number of my card and verified that buying Amex gift cards would allow me. So I purchased {$5000.00} gift card. The Amex representative in early XXXX again confirmed that I will be receiving XXXX in points within 4-6 weeks and now they are declining and saying I am not eligible for the points! Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: Recently got an American Express/AMEX Gold card with a {$250.00} annual fee. That card is advertised as providing 4x membership rewards points on U.S. Restaurants and U.S. Supermarkets ( up to $ XXXX in annual spend ). The restaurant transactions routinely code improperly, as XXXX points, even though the establishment 's coding to AMEX is clearly listed as " Restaurant-Restaurant. '' About 30 % of charges on my last 3 statements code improperly. Many of these are third party processor issued transactions, such as from XXXX or XXXX, but not all. I have opened two customer service cases with AMEX. I've called in 4 times, and chatted via online chat 1 time, for updates. This is over a 6 week stretch. They keep stating it'll be 2-3 weeks upon which I'll get a call, but I have not. I remain unable to gain resolution on this issue. This issue has been reported on many major travel sites - from XXXX to XXXX, as well as on the XXXX AMEX forums and on multiple XXXX pages. It is beyond unacceptable that a company such as AMEX can not appear to be able to systemically remedy this issue or handle customer service for it, appropriately.

Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: I applied for the XXXX XXXX Business car through American Express on XX/XX/XXXX. A XXXX XXXX sign up bonus was offered with this card. Per the Terms and Conditions : " Earn XXXX XXXX XXXX Points You can earn XXXX XXXX XXXX Bonus Points after you spend {$3000.00} ( the " Threshold Amount '' ) on eligible purchases on your Card in your first 3 months of Card Membership. Eligible purchases to meet the Threshold Amount for this offer include those made by both the Basic and Additional Card Members on the Card Account. Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases to meet the Threshold Amount of this offer do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchase of travelers checks, purchase or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or other cash equivalents. '' I met the spend threshold amount on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, I reached out to American Express to inquire about the status of the bonus. I was told it was not attached to the account but that an investigation would be performed. I inquired again on XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was informed that the bonus was applied to the account but the bonus that the representative read to me was incorrect. He said he would open an investigation and to contact Amex in 7-10 business days. On XX/XX/XXXX, I reached out again and was informed the previous agent was incorrect and to give them more time. On XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted Amex again. Based on the Terms and Conditions, the bonus should have posted with 6-8 weeks. At this point I was told that I did not qualify for the bonus, despite receiving no warning from American Express that I did not qualify during the sign up process ( a service they offer ) and differing responses from previous agents. At this point, due to American Express ' delay in informing me of this, I was also past the point where I could cancel the card and receive a refund for the annual fee. This is a clear case of bait and switch by the card issuer.

Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: Hi there, My new XXXX XXXX XXXX has an advertised perk of earning 4x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at US restaurants and grocery stores. I have a handful of XXXX charges made at restaurants, that I am only receiving XXXX Membership Reward point per dollar spent. 1 of these restaurants is coded as a " grocery store '' ( which should still earn the XXXX points ), and the other XXXX restaurants are coded as " restaurants '' but for some reason are not earning the points. I contacted American Express via chat and phone starting on XX/XX/XXXX, and have since emailed and called with them several times since then. Each time, they say they are " investigating ''. Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship
Complaint: I had trouble getting this company to understand my hardship. I was in XXXX for a period of time for a crime that I did not commit. I attempted to negotiate before the account closed due to my absence, but they would not work with me and eventually it closed with negative debt. When I did get my legal situation sorted out, I was let go. Now, I have been working to get my vital credit accounts back in great standing to keep my credit alive and well. They have told me on several attempts that its their decision to close accounts for any reason. All I ask is that American Express work with me and open my account again while I pay the debt down to XXXX over a period of 5 months. Thats definitely negotiable in my eyes considering I have stable income.

Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, 2018, I applied for the American Express Gold credit card online via a referral link my friend sent me and got instantly approved. The process was smooth and I clearly remembered I did NOT receive any " pop-ups '' saying I would not be eligible for the welcome offer ( as Amex customer service later claimed I should have seen ) during the process. To confirm I was eligible for the welcome offer, I even went ahead and gave a call to Amex customer service on XX/XX/2018 XXXX - they confirmed I was on track to receive the bonus and gave me an offer progress number : XXXX. I have spent far beyond the requirements but did not receive any of the promised rewards. On XX/XX/2018, I contacted Amex asking for why I was not issued the rewards and was told my offer was declined because of " misuse of credit card ''. I escalated the call several times and they were unable to tell me what exactly cause the " misuse ''. What Amex has done was very deceptive : 1. If they determine a customer would not be eligible for the offer, they should inform the customer before they conduct the credit check and approve the card. The credit card market is very competitive and customers have many choices other than Amex. From a customer 's perspective, what Amex has done is fraud. And it has gained Amex an unfair advantage in the credit card market. 2. What is worse than not informing the customer when they applied is : to tell customers they are eligible when they are trying to meet the requirements and then tell them they are actually not eligible after they have met the requirements. I don't know if Amex is doing this on purpose. If they are, it looks 100 % fraud to me. American Express posted on their website for the Amex Gold credit card : " Earn XXXX Membership Rewards Points '' and " Receive 20 % back as a statement credit, up to {$100.00} per Card account, on dining purchases at U.S. restaurants for the first three months of your Gold Card membership ''.

Application denied
Complaint: ECOA, enacted in 1974, prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, source of income or whether a person exercises rights granted under the Consumer Credit Protection Act for any credit transaction and through the life of the loan. Each time I have applied I have been denied and I believe it to be discrimination because of my last name ( a part of my heritage ). I find this game AMEX plays funny and unjust.
