Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: My original student loan in XX/XX/XXXX was {$35000.00}. Over the years I made payments and also had my taxes garnished but the total just kept getting higher. In XX/XX/XXXX I got a call from XXXX XXXX of XXXX XXXX Ext. XXXX. She told me that I since I was a single mother and that my loan was so old, I was eligible to reduce the interest rate of 9 % and to have all the penalties and interest removed after I made 5 payment in a row. XXXX XXXX at XXXX # XXXX XXXX walked me through all the paperwork and told me not to worry about all the legal speak and that before I knew it this would all be behind me. My loan is now at {$130000.00} still at 9 % and I just got an email that if I don't sign a new document my payment will be {$1600.00} per month and a everything will capitalize on top of the old amounts. When I called to ask what was going on the customer service person told me that I should be careful of what I sign. She told me to call my senator or contact the department of education. That I should pay {$5.00} a month. Meanwhile, I am devastated and don't know how to even begin to tackle this debt. I feel I was defrauded by XXXX/ Navient and I met others where the exact situation took place. I feel so foolish.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Ex-husband used my information to get a parent loan for his biological daughter under my information and social security number. This did not come to be known until we were in midst of divorce and it showed up on my credit report. It was agreed to and acknowledge by the judge and in our divorce decree and court judgement that he would be responsible to pay this loan off and get it out of my name and off my credit report as it was fraudulently obtained without my knowledge and/or agreement. I have notified the " loan plus '' hotline and they have in the past put a hold/deferment on this loan as my ex-husband is currently in default of the court order and has been held in contempt of court. I do not understand why I being penalized for his fraudulent behavior and why this is still attached to my social secruity number, " my debt ratio '', and i have to manage this on my credit report when it was not my doing.

Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Private student loan debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: I made a payment inXX/XX/2019 that should have applied to the payment for XX/XX/XXXX. Navient was supposed to update me on the status of the payment 2 weeks ago and though they havent I continue to get calls from collections reps. I have no issue paying my bill for XX/XX/XXXX, but they need to tell me what happened to my payment for XX/XX/XXXX before I give them another dime. The representative who just called me this XXXX was extremely rude and got very disrespectful after I explained that Navient should have been calling to resolve the issue before asking for another payment. She had way too much attitude for Navient to not be able tell me where my last payment was applied. I am disgusted by the fact that a loan company such as this cant answer a simple question to a person who has willingly paid her bill overall and especially this year. I even had an autopay set up last year and when Navient didnt take the payments as scheduled the rep didnt know what I was talking about ... its all there in the notes.

False statements or representation

Debt collection: Federal student loan debt

Impersonated attorney, law enforcement, or government official
Complaint: I was contacted by a company called XXXX XXXX XXXX on the evening of Wednesday, XX/XX/XXXX. They had most of my information already, my name, the last 4 of my social, my birthdate, everything. They claimed to be a partner of the Federal Government, and claimed that under an education rider on the ACA act, they could pay off most of my student loans and take over completely from my loan provider, then I would pay them a decreased amount from my current payment. I fell for it stupidly, gave them my social, and suddenly all my student loan account information had been changed and I was getting notices from Navient and XXXX about all of it. All the research I did indicated they lied about several things, they were not a legit company, and they were scamming me.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I am on a rate reduction program with Navient to pay back my private student loan. In order to be on this program you have to re-certified every 6 months, but the problem is the rate reduction program is not an income based program and even though the interest rate has decreased, my loan balance is not going down its continuing to increase along with my payments. I asked the customer service rep ( CSR ) if there are any other programs that I can apply for because the payments are getting to high for me to afford. The representative said no this is the only program for private student loans. The interesting thing is I asked the CSR what my remaining balance was on my student loans and she gave me a balance that was higher than my balance when I declared bankruptcy in XX/XX/2010 because they are adding so much interest to my loan. Navient is unconcern with customers who are actually trying to pay their loans back, they are continuing to increase rate as well as my payment which I can no longer afford. I do have to live and I have other obligations.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I applied for the XXXX XXXX Loan Forgiveness program and I was granted {$10000.00} in forgiveness which cleared all of my remaining debt with Navient. I received several emails congratulating me on paying off my loan and the balance went to {$0.00}. I even talked to a rep who canceled my monthly auto payments and confirmed that I was all set and that I should receive a letter in the mail confirming this. After several months I received nothing but I did get a notification that I was due to resume payments soon. I had no idea what this was referring to so I called Navint and a rep informed me that they misfiled my paperwork. I should have received only {$5000.00} in forgiveness, not {$10000.00}. She informed me that I was in fact due to resume paying off my loan. Sadly, in the months that had passed since I was informed by Navient that I had paid the loan in full, I had transferred any remaining money I had to pay off the loan into my Roth IRA. I thought I was making a wise financial choice only to find out that I once again needed that money so that I could pay off the mistaken amount.

Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: My four loans ( 1 per year ) ranged in interest from 3 % to 4.25 %. Rate did not change from XXXX when I first got the loan, until XXXX when Sallie Mae changed to Navient. In XXXX is when I noticed my rates beginning to rise. Currently my rates are 5.5 % -6.5 % and only raise. They are variable rate, however only go up. When the prime or libor rate drop, my loans don't. However, my rates go up when prime and libor go up even when they have not exceeded their previous mark. for example in XXXX the rates were at all time highs. Now they are half of what they were 10 years ago, but my interest rate has doubled. Additionally, one of my places of employment closed for 6 months last year. The only option I was offered was forbearance. Now customer Service tells me I would have had other options, but did not disclose what they would be. Each rep I speak to simply states a blanket statement, I assume from their prompt screens, that state when rates go up, so does my interest. Nobody including customer service reps, supervisors, managers, or the current advocate assigned, has been able to explain why I don't benefit when rates go down. Also, depending on whom you speak to, they can't tell me if my rates are based on prime or Libor, they are unable to explain what my base rate is, they just say base plus prime or libor. As a matter of fact, the last person I spoke to said prime is currently 5 %. At that time, my loan rate was 5 %, and they did not know what my base rate is. I asked for my original loan amortization schedules. I'm told they are not available because they are 'too old ' and with a variable rate it can extend the life of the loan. I believe my first payment was XXXX of XXXX. I should be done with repayment in XXXX of XXXX. Currently, they show XXXX of XXXX. With incorrect and unjust interest changes, there is a significant financial remediation called for based on improper allocation of funds.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I spoke with Navient to update my rate reduction program, it expires every 6 months. I spoke with a manager named XXXX, who was very rude, and a customer service representative. My current payment is XXXX and they wanted to raise my payment to XXXX. I do understand that this is a stair stepper program where they increase your payments but they have never increased it by that much. I gave them all my financial information to let them know how much I had left over and they still refused to lower my payment. I am very loyal in paying my payments on time. Financially I can not make that payment. They said they were still giving me a break because I would not have to pay the full amount {$900.00}. That is why I am on a rate reduction program to make lower payments. I know Navient has tried to make clients pay more than can. I am not trying to out run my payments I am trying to pay.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, I learned that my last 3 student loan payments dated XX/XX/2019 ( came out of my bank account XX/XX/2019 ), XX/XX/2019 ( came out of my account XX/XX/2019 ), and XX/XX/2019 ( came out of my account XX/XX/2019 ) had been misapplied. On those 3 dates, I paid {$130.00}. However, when I looked at the Recent Payments section of the Navient website, I saw payment amounts of {$110.00} for those 3 dates instead of the {$130.00} that came from my bank accounts 3 times. I called Navient to explore this. The woman I talked to ( XXXX ) explained that Loans 1 and 2 are consolidated and that payments are applied to both loans. I told her I understand, but upon review of my file the payments that were applied to Loan 2 in the amounts of {$15.00} were all reversed, so {$0.00} was applied to Loan 2 for the 3 payments I made. XXXX continued to explain that payments I make are applied to both loans and I continued to explain that {$0.00} was applied to Loan 2 the last 3 payments due to the reversal of how my payments were first applied. As a result of the reversal, the weekly {$15.00} I wanted applied to Loan 2 was applied to Loan 1 instead. 100 % of the {$15.00} they took away from my payment toward Loan 2 went to the principal on Loan 1. Per Navient 's website, payments are typically allocated to interest first. Their reversal of how my payment was applied goes against this. As a result of this reversal, there is now unpaid interest on Loan 2 in the amount of {$56.00}. It would not be this much if they had applied my payments without the reversal that XXXX said took place on XX/XX/2019. This was when XXXX said she would submit something to reverse the reversal. I asked if they would correct this mistake, just for clarification that my payments would be applied correctly. She said yes and gave me an estimated time frame of by XX/XX/XXXX.

Student loan: Private student loan

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have three ( 3 ) private loans with Navient. I payed off early one of the loans on XX/XX/2019. On XX/XX/2019 my automatic payment went through as usual. On XX/XX/2019 I received an email from Navient stating that I was put on forbearance due to a recent natural disaster. I am currently living in XXXX XXXX XXXX and the previous addresses that they have in file are from XXXX, NY and XXXX, DC. None of those areas have had a natural disaster. I did not make a request to be put on forbearance nor do I need forbearance since I have always payed the loans on time through automatic payment nor do I currently have a financial hardship, in the contrary, I am considering paying off all of the remaining loans early. If Navient is involuntarily putting people on forbearance it causes their clients to pay more money on interest. Which is unfair and something that you can easily miss since I was notified only through email 15 minutes before their customer service stops taking calls for the day. It would be easy for someone to either completely miss that they were put on forbearance or forget to call them since they sent the notice at XXXXXXXX XXXX and stop taking calls at XXXX. I want to make sure that people are not affected by this since it does not appear to be a fair practice from Navient.

Can't temporarily delay making payments
Complaint: I have been trying to work with the loan company Navient. I am unable to pay off my loans at this time do to personal problems and a family situation that has not allowed me to work at this time. I also have been studying for my licensing exam for my XXXX so I can get a job to pay these loans back and that has taken time. The company has spend the last year calling and harassing me, my family, friends, and friends of family members that I don't even know. They call them and me multiple times a day everyday for almost a year. I called the company and explained my situation to them four times and asked them three of those times to stop calling me multiple times daily. This request was not granted after they said they would put me on a no calling list. Now they are harassing me telling me they will take me to court if I don't pay a fee of {$150.00} to be put into one of their programs, money I do not have. I told the woman I would try and come up with the money by the end of XXXX and she agreed. However, she continued to call me, family, and family members friends ( such as my sister in laws father ) to try and get the money even after we had agreed to give me a months time to come up with the money. I called her back to try and figure it out and then she called me today threatening that if I don't pay the {$150.00} to be put into a program today that they are done trying to " help '' me. The company has my contact info and has no right to be calling family members and people I don't not know to get money from and sharing my private information about my loans. I have literally received hundred of phone calls in a month spanning for almost a year. I had to change my phone number it became so bad. I do not know how to come up with the money and I do not know how to stop them from threatening me and harassing me daily.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I typed in my XXXX XXXX account information for a payment of {$200.00} on XX/XX/19. I logged in and saw a payment reversal. The lady told me I had the wrong bank information in. This has happened several times. I just made a payment for {$12.00} with them with my XXXX XXXX account so there is no excuse for this. Now I have to wait for the payment to go through and the interest could possibly hurt my credit for XX/XX/XXXX. I was banking on having all the interest paid and all the interest caught up. Now this is very unlikely to happen due to the lack of Navient not changing the payment information.
