Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: My complaint is about Navient. I am a resident physician who took out money for medical school. I am now a second-year resident so this is my second year paying on the loan. I have to be on an income-based repayment plan because my income ( ~ $ XXXX ) can not possibly make the payment on my > {$200000.00} student loan. As a result of being on the income-based repayment plan, Navient forces me to re-demonstrate my income every year to re-qualify. In order to accomplish this re-demonstration ( which is a useless exercise anyway because my income barely increases annually and that number is set years ahead of time for all residency programs and it is published online ), they sent a single non-descript email on XX/XX/2018. The email does not include any indication that it might contain such a re-authorization requirement. I have attached the email with my information redacted. In order to receive the contents of the email we are required to follow the link, login, and click on a pdf link that may or may not be the most recent message ; that is easy to overlook when you get 50 emails, this one contains nothing but a link, and there is no way to tell which message on the Navient website this email is connected to. BTW, I have four post-graduate college degrees and this is not straightforward. Of note, Navient does not include additional reminders. They do not include an email saying anything relevant at all. In fact, all Navient emails are essentially hidden until you conduct the separate login. Then, after that single email, they emailed me in XX/XX/XXXX to say that my payment would be increasing to {$2600.00} a month. Obviously, I can not afford that while I make {$50000.00} a year. They do give me the chance to fix the problem by going back on the income-based plan. I submitted all of the information to get back to the same income-based repayment program I was previously that is currently pending. However, despite staying on the same payment plan and having no lapses in my payments, Navient capitalized my interest. Apparently, that is their policy. If people do not re-authorize their loan in a pre-specified window of time, Navient capitalizes their interest. In my case, that capitalization was approximately {$6000.00}. So now I am getting compounded interest around 6 % on another {$6000.00}. In other words, I get to pay an extra {$30.00} a month for the duration of my loan. All because I missed a single non-descript email. I am wondering what the value of such a policy for the government that I borrowed money from? That is, why would Navient be allowed to steal a huge amount of money due to missing an arbitrary re-authorization date despite staying on the exact same repayment plan. It seems like a scam. We are basically borrowing money from our own government and Navient is being allowed to skim money off the top.

Incorrect information on your report

Student loan: Private student loan

Account status incorrect
Complaint: I am an unemployed, XXXX-year old man who is currently going to school, hoping to improve my chances of being hired. I am a XXXX veteran with over 25 years of experience as a XXXX XXXX. Therefore, my credit history must remain untarnished for me to successfully land a job. Unexpectedly, a few months ago, I started receiving notifications from Navient that my private loans were delinquent. Immediately, I started doing XXXX to come up with money to repay these loans. Navient offered me to enter a Rate Reduction Program, which I accepted. A few days before my second qualifying payment was due, I called Navient to forewarn this institution that I might be a couple of days behind, seeking their understanding and imploring them not reporting me to the credit bureaus. The lady whom I spoke with supposedly granted me this request, but when I made the payment on XX/XX/XXXX, Navient reported three ( 3 ) late payments to the credit bureaus. I believe that this negligent act violated at least two provisions of my rights under the Fair Credit and Reporting Act ( FCRA ) 15 U.S.C. 1681. I called Navient several times and they continue to misrepresent the fact. Their employees and supervisors are covering up for one another. My third qualifying payment was made on XX/XX/XXXX. However, per Mr. XXXX ( Navient ID XXXX ), my third qualifying payment was not processed on time. It was processed on XX/XX/XXXX, upon my last call to Navient. In sum, I was asked TWICE to wait : a ) Until the XX/XX/XXXX ; and b ) Until XX/XX/XXXX to wait for the 6 wrongful past due reports disappear. This is abusive and likely will preclude me from passing an employment credit background check. Also, my other creditors might raise their rates on me due to a higher perceived risk.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Several of my federal student loans are being serviced by Navient. I currently live in XXXX XXXX and as a result of the severe fires in XXXX, Navient decided to put my account of disaster forbearance without my permission or my request to do so. When I spoke with a representative about who authorized this I was told they do not need any authorization for disaster forbearance. I am still responsible for any interest on the account during this month 's forbearance. When asked whether I could withdraw the forbearance, Navient 's representative told me it was not a possibility. There are 10 million people in this county and only a small percentage were affected by the wild fires. I understand " President '' Trump has neutered your office and thus this is mostly cathartic.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I currently have 5 direct loans serviced through Navient. I recently paid 2 of my 5 loans off. When paying the loan online, Navient quoted one price but it turned out that the loan was actually a lesser amount due. I over paid the amount owed, and realized I had over paid the loan 2 weeks after the payment was made. I contacted Navient in regard to this situation, and requested a refund for the over payment amount. Navient responded with an apology for their system not catching the error and submitted a request to their refunds department. On XX/XX/XXXX, I was told that a check had been cut and sent to my address. Around XX/XX/XXXX I noticed I had not received anything in the mail and followed up with Navient. Navient then told me the process takes about 3-4 weeks to receive the check in the mail. I made them aware that time period was closely approaching and I would wait for my check to come as that 4th week approached. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called Navient again, they told me they hadn't sent the check the first time that it was actually sent XX/XX/XXXX. I would then again have to wait 4-6 weeks for my check to arrive and that it was no fault of theirs but the U.S. Treasury 's and there was nothing they could do to expedite my payment. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called once again, and I was told they didn't know what happened to my check but I should get it whenever it arrives and the U.S Treasury is the hold up. I then spoke with a manager and he was able to cancel the check and offer to put the funds directly in my account. I agreed. The manager then cancelled the check then told me to expect to wait another 6 weeks, as I would have to go through the waiting process all over again, because a different form of payment was being processed. I angrily asked, " Why he didn't explain this to me before he cancelled the other check?? '' He had nothing to say. I called again today and was given the same run around. He even went as far as to say, " Maybe we already paid you, and you just forgot.. '' The agent used the same script as the other agents and nothing is being done to refund my money. This isn't right and I feel this should be looked into. Granted the over payment money may not be much to most people, I work very hard for every penny I have and people shouldn't be treated like this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Step 4 : What company is this complaint about? Step 5 : Who are the people involved?

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Navient, which now services Sallie Mae 's old loans, has denied my requests for public service loan forgiveness. I have worked in XXXX XXXX for 13 years ( over the 10 years required for forgiveness ) and have made well over the qualifying 120 payments on my loan. My loans were consolidated by the lender which no longer make them a qualifying loan type under this program. Had I known this before I would have never allowed them to consolidate my loans. Part, or all, of my student loans should be eligible for forgiveness. The PSLF program is a complete scam. I worked to pay down my loan over the last 13 years only to find out when I applied for this program that I am not eligible. There was no guidance on the part of the lender and, conversely, they placed me into a consolidated product that rendered all of my loans ineligible for forgiveness.

Problem with customer service
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX I contacted Navient by phone in regards to my Income Driven Repayment Plan since I had received notification my payment would increase from {$0.00} to {$110.00}. I worked with XXXX who advised me to submit a Change Plan Request at Navient.com then to select the fifth option stating " income-driven repayment with the lowest monthly payment '' and that it would lower my payment to approximately {$75.00}. XXXX advised me that he would send me an email and that I would select : email -- > return applicant -- > change plan request -- > lowest monthly payment ; however once I reviewed the email I found it was not in this format. I then emailed Navient on their website and they emailed back on XX/XX/XXXX that I would submit the request on studentloans.gov and it was the " easiest and quickest way '' ; however again it was not explained how to submit for the lowest monthly IDR repayment plan. On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX I contacted Navient by phone again and spoke to XXXX. XXXX walked me through and advised me to go to : studentloans.gov -- > " Repayment & Consolidation '' -- > " Apply/Re-Certify/Change an Income-Driven Repayment Plan '' -- > " Switch my current plan to a new plan '' -- > " I am submitting documentation early to have my income-driven payment recalculated immediately ''. XXXX also advised me to go to Navient.com and select : " Inbox/Upload '' -- > " Repayment Plan '' -- > " The Income-drive repayment plan with the lowest monthly payment '' ; in regards to submit proof of income. XXXX emphasized just as XXXX had on XX/XX/XXXX that my payment would be approximately {$75.00}. However, on XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from Navient stating " we've approved your request for an Income-Driven Repayment plan '' with the unaltered monthly payment of {$110.00}.

Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: Hello My private student loans were initially handled by Sallie Mae until Navient took over. I have been paying my loans on time for the last 7 years and the throughout this time I have been noticing the monthly payments are increasing and the portion of the monthly payments is going towards the interest and not the principle balance. I called Navient regarding the matter and their response that this is out of their hands and the interest varies based in the stock market rate!!!. I explained to Navient that if my credit score has been improving, my principle balance is decreasing and my on time payment history is excellent, why would my interest change and my monthly payment is increasing?. I also applied for a release of cosigner request, providing them with documentation that I have been paying Navient on time for the last 7 years and proof of graduation and U.S citizenship, but they still rejected the request based on invalid reasons. I really believe as a borrower that we need a break. I keep paying for money that I have borrowed almost 15 years ago when I was young and nave and unaware of the consequences. I really need help to get out of this never ending loan payments

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Account information incorrect
Complaint: I have two private loans in good standing with Navient ( XXXX Signature Student and XXXX Signature Student ). Navient has reported both of my loan accounts as being 60 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX to each of the three credit reporting agencies, XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. My credit reports clearly indicate that, according to Navient, my loan accounts were 60 consecutive days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX. I have NEVER allowed my accounts to go 60 days past due in XXXX even though that is what Navient is reporting to the credit bureaus. Because of Navient 's harmful, unfounded and unorthodox credit reporting practices, each of my three credit reports indicates that I was past due for 60 consecutive days on each of my loan accounts as of XX/XX/XXXX. My loan accounts have NEVER been 60 days late in XXXX yet that is what Navient is reporting to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. I wrote an email to Navient 's CEO, XXXX XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX explaining the problem and alerting him to the erroneous and harmful information that was being reported by Navient to my credit reports. He did not respond to my email. However, a Customer Advocate was assigned to assist me in investigating the errors on my credit report. The Customer Advocate assigned to assist me goes by the name XXXX ( a.k.a. XXXX ) and her ID # is XXXX. I gave XXXX all of the necessary information to investigate the issue and she confirmed that I was NEVER 60 days late in XXXX but rather I had a late payment in XX/XX/XXXX which allows Navient to report a 60-day late in XXXX for the month of XX/XX/XXXX. She justified and validated Navient reporting my accounts as 60 days past due even while admitting I was never 60 consecutive days past due in XXXX. I find these credit reporting practices to be extremely harmful, tyrannical and devasting to American consumers. In the face of the lawsuit filed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in XX/XX/XXXX, Navient continues its harmful practices of unfair and unfounded credit reporting and misallocated payments. My loan accounts were NEVER 60 consecutive days late in XXXX and I demand that my credit reports reflect that. Unless my credit reports are corrected immediately, I will be filing a formal complaint with Attorney General XXXX XXXX and the Delaware Department of Justice as well as the Illinois and Washington attorneys general who are already in litigation with Navient. Not only that, I am fully prepared to organize a class action lawsuit against Navient to protect American consumers from becoming victims of Navient and it's flippant, harmful and negligent business practices.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: Student loans occurred in XX/XX/1998. Once repayment was set up by Sallie Mae payments were made although sometimes sporatic, then year after year on renewal only forebearance was offered. Struggling to build a business in small town in XXXX was rather tedious. Payment books would come in one amount, then another book with different amount with no logical amounts and no options. Upon another renewal time, my Power of Attorney was contacted stating that an Income Driven Program ( IDP ) might help me and docs were sent to my POA via fax, completed, signed by me and returned via fax and mail. However after approval and payment of a lower amt was made, statements the following months were more money and again the following month higher payments. My POA has tried to resolve docs and payments, but nothing from Navient other than " must talk to you first ''. Past years the Servicer would send the docs to my POA 's office and by regular mail, but now Navient has refused to do so stating WE MUST TALK FIRST. My feeling is to go back to forebearance. They are also stating that my evidence of income was never sent which is false, and currently I am under a forebearance, but I have a statement/letter stating " I am currently on an IDP plan. Florida A.G. Atty Office was contacted to join in the lawsuits as other states have done but I think they have closed their file as no correspondence has been sent to me. Navient has not sent the A.G. docs as A.G. requested and I signed an authorization but Navient refused to accept it.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: On multiple occasions I have contacted Navient requesting to get my student loans lowered and get my brother off as my co-signer. Each time I speak with someone I am told something different and that they can't do anything for me. They will not lower my student loans because they base my payment off of mine and my brothers income which is unfair. I need to know how if what their doing to me is legal, not allowing me to dismiss my brother from MY loan as a cosigner and not letting me use the programs offered for payment plans, something doesn't match up.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Below you will find the dates of loan disbursements, my payments, and interest accruals. You can see there are two amounts for {$2700.00} listed on XX/XX/XXXX. One of those is a payment, the other is an additional charge they made. As I had already graduated and was no longer receiving loan disbursements there should have been no charge there. For the payment I made on this date I also asked the money to pay the entirety of my smallest loan ( XXXX ) and the remaining money go towards paying for my second smallest loan ( under XXXX ).
