Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have absolutely NEVER been late with Navient ; however, I had just in the past few weeks noticed my loans appearing late for the year 2012 on my credit reports! I called and STILL call Navient all the time, well before time for any deadlines and was NEVER NOTIFIED of any late status ( even though it would've been inaccurate ANYWAY ). I would ALWAYS call Navient well before deadlines to submit paperwork for deferments and forebearances after I graduated. I even called Sallie Mae all the time BEFORE they became Navient -- and even heard about them becoming Navient before many others did BECAUSE of it. THAT'S JUST HOW MUCH I CALL. Yet, when I called them in recent weeks, the robotic reps ( look up the calls ) kept repeating to me that I was late in 2012 and claiming that they were constantly calling me to no avail in 2012. LIES! Furthermore, please tell me why at any point when I was getting deferments and forebearances was I never granted a POSITIVE RETROGRADE? That's USUALLY what normal companies do when people are calling them repeatedly in the event that there's actually negative info reporting! I was NEVER told of negative info, was ALWAYS told " everything is fine '', " you're good '' EACH TIME I CALLED. None of the reps listened to me when I called recently. I have made it my business to stay on TOP of my business with them, yet they STILL did me wrong and has this FALSE, INVALID info reporting in my credit files, affecting my ability to move forward financially. According to consumer law, Navient is supposed to provide verifiable proof to me that I was late by providing bank statements showing late payments. XXXX even went as far to delete many of the negative accounts because Navient didn't even verify them! All of the accounts still reporting invalid, incorrect negative info for 2012 need to be UPDATED TO POSITIVE with the credit bureaus. Please expedite this dispute!

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I am a single mother and work full time for the XXXX XXXX XXXX. I work 60 plus hours per week. I have four private student loans which are now owned by Navient. I have been paying on my loans since I graduated with my XXXX in 2009. My federal loans qualify for the income based repayment option. These four private loans are placing myself and my family in a hardship and Navient is not willing to work with me. I am currently paying {$310.00} per month. I had to let the loans default for months due to Navient not willing to work with me. Six months ago, I was paying {$250.00} and after the six months, they raised the rate and it will increase again in XX/XX/XXXX. I call every six months and are insulted by their workers. I am in tears at the end of every call and am told " This is not our problem. Get a second job. '' I am told that I need to work more to pay the loans when I am calling to try and get a lower payment. They do not apply my automatic payment correctly each month. I have to call each month because I am getting threatenting calls and once I call, the automatic payment is applied correctly. My Navient account shows loans as past due when they are paid. In XX/XX/XXXX, they withdrew over {$700.00} out of my account without my authorization. I called and they refunded the money to then turn around and take out over {$400.00}. They give no clear statement as to why a certain amount of money is taken out. I call and one person gives me an amount to pay, I sign up for the program and then I am told by another that the loans dont qualify for that program and owe more money. After my mortgage and all bills are paid, I have {$100.00} to my name. I work hard and have no time in a day for a second job. I am sometimes in the negative each month due to Navient. I did not know what I was signing up for when I took out Private Loans. The payback process was not explained to me when I was trying to put myself through school. They have taken money out of my account without authorization and when I call, they tell me that I have to make that payment or I would be taken to court and my paycheck would be garnished. Navient harrassess and bullies people. I am considering bankruptcy in an attempt to file for undue hardship becasue of these loans. I try and work with this company and try and pay what I can. They are not willing to work with anyone and steal money. I will never see the end of these loans. The amounts that are now owed do not make sense and I am always having to pay a different amount and when asked why, I am told thats the amount and either I pay it or be taken to court. My family members are witness to the harrassment and bullying. I am willing to do anything to seek help. Navients practices are not ethical and they should not be in business.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: After speaking with everyone at Student Assistance Offices including the Federal Ombudsman at the Department of Education, I am advised to contact this office. I do need your help. Despite being eligible for public service loan forgiveness and having paid my student loans faithfully for over 10 years ( since XX/XX/XXXX ), I am told I am disqualified because of the kind of federal loan I hadand had never been advised otherwise by Navient or by XXXX College. I recently changed over to a federal Direct Service loan but at this rate would be paying it until I am XXXX!! As you know in XXXX XXXX, salaries are not equal to what lawyer or XXXX grads make, even from XXXX XXXX XXXX. And XXXX XXXX employees do not benefit as some other professions do from wealthy employees contributing to or paying student loans in total for employees. In XX/XX/XXXX after working since XX/XX/XXXX in XXXX XXXX, I joined the XXXX of the first XXXX XXXX of XXXX XXXX in Massachusetts, at XXXX XXXX XXXX, in order to XXXX what I had learned in many years of practice. In order to stay on the XXXX, I was required to earn my XXXX and did so from XXXX College XXXX School XXXX XXXX XXXX, completing in XX/XX/XXXX. In so doing, I incurred Educational Loans which I was told would be partly forgiven due to my commitment to XXXX in a XXXX XXXX that serves low income students. After paying faithfully toward loan repayment, the legislation finally got passed 2 years ago for those XXXX in XXXX XXXX XXXX to qualify for loan forgiveness if they had XXXX in XXXX XXXX and paid loans for 10 years. However, what we were NOT told at the time we incurred loans and what was apparently not known until the legislation was passed was that only those who had a certain kind of loan- Direct Consolidation Loan- would be forgiven. I applied for loan forgiveness- having already paid the required 10 years to qualify for it- and was told I had the wrong kind of loan and would have to switch over and pay another 10 years. By now- at XXXX years old- I am about to retire. I have followed their advice and switched my loan to a Direct Consolidation Loan and see attachedand have been told I would have to pay 10 more years on this loan to be considered for loan forgiveness. This means with additional interest that they have attached, I would be paying $ XXXXmonthly up until XX/XX/XXXX! That would be my XXXX birthday.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I have been trying to apply for repayment options since XX/XX/2018. The total loan amount is approximately 17,000.00 I have submitted the requested paperwork multiple times, changing my monthly income stated as directed by the representative, and was told that the process was completed. I was then re-contacted and told that I did not qualify and that the process was not complete. I requested and spoke with a supervisor who provided me another option of consolidation. I called back to speak with a representative to ask a few questions as I was about to submit the new paperwork for consolodation. This new representative then told me that I was eligible for the repayment application and should not consolidate. Each representative has provided different, conflicting information. I still have not been able to complete the process and obtain a repayment plan that is manageable for my family.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I've been battling with this and been trying since XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX to have this loan removed by Navient. I've called to complain about a loan they said I owe. I called an asked for proof I signed for it an was told they can't provide me with a note instead they mailed me a receipt with the amount I owe which is {$15000.00}. It was less back then an it just kept going up. I didn't want on my credit as negative so put it in deferral to prevent my credit from going bad or having my income tax return taken.I disputed with all three credit bureaus an was told this was accurate an they submitted information but I have yet to see anything. I'm asking for proof that's all period. If they can't this company needs to remove it, including all three credit bureaus

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Sallie Mae, now Navient, did not inform me in Fall of 2007 that I could have transferred my loan to XXXX XXXX. I started working as a public service librarian at a XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/2007. The PSLF program began in Fall 2007 with XXXX XXXX. Sallie Mae should have informed me that I could have transferred my student loans to XXXX XXXX at that time. This mean that I have been neglected the opportunity to be forgiven from the bulk of my student loan debt ( considering that I am still work as a pubic service librarian at the same place since XX/XX/2007 ). When I contacted XXXX XXXX about this matter, they said it was out of their hands and their was nothing they could do about it. Should I contact the Ombudsman ( if so, what is the contact information ) or should I start/join a class action lawsuit against Navient ( formerly Sallie Mae )? Please advise.

Struggling to repay your loan

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: Over the past 5 or more years we have requested that Navient work with our daughter ( a single mother of XXXX ) and us ( co-signers who are retired ) to buy some time and reduce stress so our daughter could eventually be in a situation to make regular payments on her student loans. We have made several regular and partial payments over a long period of time and yet continue being harassed by Navient with phone calls and with refusal to work with our daughter. When we do ( which is rare ) answer one of their calls and request repayment based on discretionary income basis, etc. we are denied any assistance and get hounded about making full and immediate payment. Our daughter is working hard to support her family but does not make enough income to make full, or at times, partial payments. My wife and I are both retired and social security benefits are our primary source of income for paying our bills, etc. We are confident that with time, our daughter will be able to repay what she can as she can but, Navient doesn't seem willing to work with her or us. They are rude over the phone and unresponsive to written communication.

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Between XXXX and XXXX, and on numerous occasions, I was pushed towards refinancing options that would have eliminated my rights as a federal student loan holder. Navient suggested that refinancing all my student loans to one " average rate '' would save me money, which is simply not true. I fortunately did not pursue this option, because I learned that I would no longer be eligible for forebearance or deferment of my loan. I feel the need to report this misleading practice because Navient may target other unsuspecting young individuals in a scummy attempt to line their pockets with more money.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have worked for the county and or state for the past 10 years in front line positions in which I qualify for the loan forgiveness program. Every time I called Navient for assistance as I could not afford to pay my student loan, they would direct me to do a forbearance or deferment which I did ; however, I was never informed or given the option of the income based repayment plan nor told that this plams as opposed to a deferment or forbearance would count toward the loan forgiveness plan. I reached the 10 year mark for having my loans forgiven and was informed that due to not being on the right plan, I had another 8 years to go! This is unfair as I have worked jobs in which I am due and qualify to have my loan forgiven yet I jave bedn railroaded ans forced to pay longer. It's not fair & it's not my fault that they only gave me the options of deferment or forbearance.

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I have been a customer of Navient for the life of my student loans. Over the years I have had many small challenges with the company, but more recently ( as my debts have been paid off more aggressively ), have encountered serious oversights from the loan service. Most of the time, I just let it pass, but this time is different. Like everyone repaying their loans, I have a monthly amount that I have been paying over the course of my loans. This amount is deducted on the XX/XX/XXXX of every month. Around 3 months ago, I got a message from Navient informing me that " If you make an Overpayment on some or all of your loans, you may advance your next payment due date, which can cause a future Auto Pay payment to be processed as an Overpayment. '' This is a great option for some people, but not an option I wanted on my loans. I went into my account and found that they had automatically selected that if I make an overpayment ( which I have been doing every month ), they would push my next autopayment to the next month. Seeing this, I selected a new allocation method wherein my autopayment would NOT be pushed to the next month if I made a payment and I would be billed for my full autopayment every month, despite the extra amounts I paid on my account. Today, the day in which my monthly autopayment is supposed to be processed ( XX/XX/XXXX ), I see that they have pushed my autopayment to next month ( XX/XX/XXXX ), against my direction and wishes. I have attached 2 screenshots in which you can see my autopayment history on the 1XX/XX/XXXX, but the next autopayment is indicated as coming up on XX/XX/XXXX ... completely skipping over my XXXX autopayment. I see this as a way to keep me hooked onto my loans longer, paying more interest, and pushing me to pay longer. If I weren't actively involved at looking at my loans on a bi-weekly basis, I wouldn't have caught this move from Navient.

Incorrect information on your report

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Account status incorrect
Complaint: In XXXX, Navient reported me as 30, 60, and 90 days late on my account. I filed for a loan consolidation and a repayment plan. I have submitted my paperwork approximately 5 times now, but every time I turn around, they say the never received the paperwork and that I'm hundreds of dollars behind on my account. They either put my account in forbearance or deferment instead of getting me on an affordable payment plan. At this point, I'll never be able to repay all of my loans because of the interest rate.

Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: I requested information on my loans. I noticed my loans went up from XXXX to XXXX. I took a voluntary forbearance they call it from XX/XX/18-XX/XX/18. I took this because of financial hardship. They wrote back telling me increase from XXXX-XXXX was interest charged. So during my forbearance time they added XXXX in interest to my principal. I already can't pay what I owed with interest and they add on almost 4K!!! This is absolutely wrong. How will I ever pay these back with constant increase? Even before it jumped up, my loans were not going down and I pay every month.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I attended university from XXXX to XXXX, this loan was obtained in between my years of attendance to pay for tuition. I began paying this loan immediately after school as it was a {$10000.00} loan and I wanted to tackle the balance right away and feel accomplished about it. I am not even sure how to express the frustration and disgust of what happened from XXXX to present but the loan was transferred to 4 or 5 different lenders without any notification to me. I would sometimes receive a statement or letter in the mail from the new company and i would try to call the previous company that held the loan and they for the most part could not help me because they had nothing to do with the loan anymore. I got so overwhelmed and frustrated trying to track the loan and understand what or why that was happening. The next thing i noticed was the increase in the balance and the interest changing each time it was passed around. Even though i was making payments my loan all of sudden was increasing in balance. I argued with the lenders and asked for explanations and never received answers. The suggested deferrment and forbearance and suggested it was a good way to stop paying for awhile. i have had multiple deferrments and forbearances and then i noticed after that happened the balance kept increasing. i tried to make payment plans with the lender and then low and behold the loan was moved again. I have never felt so deceived and angry about something that is so personal to me. I worked my XXXX off in school and my parents could not afford the tuition entirely so i required loans. This loan was suggested by the school and it happened so easy i was delighted. And they make you think once you are done school you make low monthly payments and easy peasy it will be gone in no time. That would be manageable but that is not what has happened. i was deceived and the loan was tossed around and my life in the process. I have no issue paying the original balance of the loan which was $ XXXX less any payments i made from XXXX to present. that is what is fair and that is all i would be able to handle. I would not have gone to school if i had to take out a $ XXXX loan because i cant afford that. This is criminal what they have done and i have been beggin for loan forgiveness and help for the actions they have taken. Please contact me as i would really appreciate someone to finally reach out and help me.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I continue to try to explain to the Navient Student loan payment center that I'm just not able to repay my loans. If I could I would. They continue to add charges to increase what is owed on my loans. I am living off of XXXX XXXX XXXX. I barely have enough income to pay for daily living expenses. I continue to get calls or reminders although I have continued explaining my situation. My dream of becoming a XXXX XXXX was lost after having a car accident which basically took my life away, at least the one I worked hard to try to get. I just simply can not afford to make any payments. I need to have all of these loans forgiven if possible. I had excellent credit at one time and I now have horrible credit. This upsets me and the whole situation has also affected my XXXX XXXX. I am under the care of a XXXX. The more they continue to ask for payments always increases my XXXX and XXXX XXXX. I'm just not able to pay these loans. My life changed dramatically after a car accident. I basically lost everything.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: The servicer offers no options to make a payment via phone over the weekend! If you travel or work and the weekend is the time you have, the serviced should offer the automated payment option. When you call the XXXX # that is on the bill, they state that there is a automated system 24 hrs a day then it gives hours of operation ( m-f ) then it hangs up. The option that the servicer does offer is payment online but not all of us have internet capability! Also the online option does not offer payment by debit card. So not only does the borrower have to go find internet access, the are only given the option of paying by checking or savings acct # and routing # which is not normally info that someone carries around with them when they travel or away from home. If they wont over automated system for pay by phone 24 hrs as they advertise then they shouldnt be charging late fees for borrowers that dont have access to the internet and those who dont have the checking or savings # readily available
