Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: This company is horrible. My complaints are consistent with the lawsuit being filed. I constantly receive contradictory information from different representatives and have been constantly encouraged to enter forbearance periods. Every time I present my situation to a representative they have a different version of what is the best option for me though my situation and presentation of it has not changed. The ultimate response I always get is that " If I can't afford the payments I should enter forbearance until I can. '' This occurred even when I stated that I want to find a way to make payments. On multiple occasions representatives have hurried to get me off the line with promises that a coming email would explain things. Those emails ( on at least two separate occasions ) never came. When I finally convinced someone to walk me through the IBR plan and what to submit, I was told that everything was set and that my new payment would be $ XXXX/month beginning XX/XX/2019 and that an email would confirm that on the XX/XX/2019. I asked repeatedly if the company needed anything else from me and was told no. No email came and when I called today ( XX/XX/2019 ) I was told that my application was denied because they did not have proof of income. I told them they did and pulled up the document. They stated that I did not write the pay frequency on the stub. I informed the representative that I was told everything was good and that the paystub indicated clearly how often I get paid which is every two weeks. The representative agreed and stated that she could could see that, but that the company wanted a handwritten explanation on the stub itself and that I would have to resubmit the form. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was informed again that " the due could be extended '' or I could " enter forbearance '' if this was too much for me. I'm exhausted from dealing with this company. They are unclear, unfair and not about the well being of their customers. Their policies are confusing and inaccessible and their representatives constantly encourage options that ultimately cost consumers money. I'm filing this complaint because I want accountability. The student loan scene is all but a crisis in this country and someone should hold these companies accountable. Please contact me if you have further questions.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX 2019..I called Navient to get my account up to date. My past due amount was Due XXXX 2019. Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX & XXXX XXXX XXXX lies to me stating Navients 3rd party admin Minnesota/XXXX denied my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX claim. When I requested the denial documents from Navient they ignored my emails. XX/XX/XXXX I received correspondence from Navient stating unlike federal student loans, private student loans are not entitled to discharge in the event that a customer becomes XXXX XXXX. XXXX & XXXX I repeatedly requested payment assistance due to me being XXXX with no income and was mislead me into short term payment option, instead of long term solutions. XX/XX/XXXX I applied to have co-signer removed and was denied because of financial & credit challenges. Navient never notified me of the requirements or my eligibility to release co-signer, when I was repaying on time with perfect credit.

Struggling to repay your loan

Complaint: Navient continues to increase the interest rate on the loan that they purchased from XXXX XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX Navient began to service the loan that they had purchased from XXXX XXXX XXXX. My average payment was around {$110.00}. The interest rate continued to increase and the payment is increasing as well. The current interest rate for the loan is 9.25 %, however there is a rate reduction for the amount being automatically taken out of my bank account, making the interest rate 8.25 %. My payment has increased to over {$130.00} per month and the loan amount does not decrease with every payment. As of XX/XX/XXXX ( when Navient purchased the loan ), I owed {$12000.00}. As of XX/XX/XXXX, i still owe {$12000.00}. In nearly a year, I have managed to pay off {$300.00} of the loan, however I have paid, in total, {$1100.00} - {$850.00} to interest alone. I contacted Navient to attempt to lower the interest rate, however they said they already did with the reduction through autopay. Navient said they will not lower the rate any further and that I should expect to pay the loan for another 30 years. Navient told me that if I wanted to lower my amount due, to pay more to the principle of the loan, money that is not available due to having other living expenses. Navient did not have any other options for me to reduce my payment, reduce my interest rate, and had no other options to help me. They are very predatory and are taking advantage of borrowers by purchasing loans from other companies and servicing them, offering no assistance or relief to borrowers.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I was never informed that making consecutive payments under the IBR plan can lead to forgiveness after 10 years. If that was the case then I would have certainly signed up for the automated payments and continued applying for IBR plans every year as needed. I used to get phone calls reminding of payments being due and that has since stopped so I'm unsure of where I'm at in the process, I have usually been doing 2-3 payments at once instead of monthly - again because I did not have this information. I am only told they don't report to the credit bureau 's monthly for the way my payments have been. So it's not affecting my credit score which is nice but it would be fantastic if my loans were forgiven instead. They are quite substantial and don't seem to be going down with all my payments thus far.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I have attempted over the last year to come up with a payment plan that I can afford for my private student loans with navient to no avail. Earlier in XX/XX/XXXX they were harassing me with multiple phone calls daily and when I had gotten in touch with them they would suggest a monthly payment that I couldn't possibly afford resulting in a delinquent account. I'd be quoted a monthly repayment one day and 2 days later it would be something totally different. This went on for months. In XX/XX/XXXX we finally agreed to {$230.00} monthly payment which I have been struggling but nevertheless making. I'm now told that my payment will increase beginning in XX/XX/XXXX. I have called them and they are unwilling to work with me on a plan that I can afford. They seem to have a nonchalant attitude. I want it to be clear that I'm not shying away from the responsibility of my private loans. I do have Federal loans which is also in repayment based on my income. But their customer service is at best poor and they way I've been treated is atrocious. Not certain if they treat all their customers the same way or just those with immigrant names.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I pursued a XXXX degree in XXXX and graduated on XX/XX/XXXX with my XXXX Degree in XXXX. By XX/XX/XXXX, I had a stable XXXX job and had been faithfully paying Navient at least $ XXXX monthly payment. In XX/XX/XXXX, I started out with a total loan amount of {$21000.00}. For the next 2 years, my loan amount hovered at $ XXXX-XXXX despite my monthly payments. By the time I was finally approved for a refinace with XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, my total loan amount was still {$21000.00}. I found this so hard to believe that 2 years of monthly payments hardly lowered my loan! I've included an XXXX spreadsheet that I downloaded from their website after digging hard to find how they allocated my payment to interests vs principal. In XX/XX/XXXX, they sent me a student loan interest tax form that said I paid {$13000.00} interest, which they must mean for the life of the loan and not just XX/XX/XXXX. I am not able to deduct any of this for filing my XX/XX/XXXX taxes because my AGI is now above 80,000 as a XXXX XXXX XXXX. I worked really hard as a night shift XXXX XXXX and pursuing my XXXX for an XXXX career while making these payments to Navient. Navient has done a great disservice to me and countless other students ( from reading other complaints and reports ) by misallocating my payments and keeping me at high interest rates so that my >2 years worth of monthly payments doesn't amount to anything. I am just happy that I finally was able to transfer my student loan to XXXX. I've attached my XX/XX/XXXX Navient tax form and the XXXX spreadsheet from Navient.

Incorrect information on your report

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Account information incorrect
Complaint: For a long time I was pushed into applying for a forbearance by Navient. It was only a few years ago that I was told about an income driven repayment plan. I was told to make 3 payments and it would make me eligible for low monthly payments. I made those 3 payments and only then was I told about income based repayment. I've been on that program for a few years now and although my payments have been {$0.00} I've noticed recently on my credit report that my balance on these 3 federal student loans varies by thousands each month. My balance will go up from {$1000.00} to over {$5000.00} and then will go back down. I have only recently started monitoring my credit report so I'm not sure how long this has been going on. Its devastating my credit score and making me wonder what is really going on and am I being used for fraud or something else illegal. I took these loans out almost 10 years ago and have had no help until a few years ago with a payment plan to pay them off. I've accrued so much interest the loan amount has almost doubled and that's ridiculous for a diploma that I cant even use.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I requested information regarding an income based repayment plan with Navient in order to address my student loan balance which is currently a little over {$26000.00}. Prior to XX/XX/XXXX I had no idea an income based repayment plan was available to me as I was always " suggested '' to me by Navient that I choose forbearance. Forbearance has consistently been the option provided to me from Navient whether in email form OR during phone calls over the lifetime of my loans. At NO time prior to XX/XX/XXXX was any other payment option explained to me. I only learned about income based repayment plans via research, then looking at the Navient website. I applied for the income based plan in XX/XX/XXXX but was NEVER told to submit any documents at the time the initial phone call was made. After not hearing from Navient I called again and was told I needed to supply documents verifying my low income, which I did immediately. After supplying the required documents, I was never notified regarding any updates to my account and was forced to call Navient repeatedly in an attempt to get more information. The information I received during each call was inconsistent and different depending on the individual I spoke with. Or, I was told the documents were STILL under review, no decision had been made, and to call back again at a later time. Within the last month I called again ( and spoke with a male operator ) in order to provide Navient with updated information related to my income and to check the status of my account. This individual told me that the documentation I sent in originally during the fall was incorrect, and that this was why I had not been notified of any changes. Therefore nothing had been filed, updated nor any information provided to me via email or phone call. This indivudal was rude, impatient, short, and unhelpful. I hung up on this individual because he was so disrespectful and did not provide me with any new information other than telling me I needed to start the application process all over again. Had I not called, I would've assumed my application was still under review. Keep in mind I requested an income based repayment plan last fall in order to have a financial plan in place BEFORE my XX/XX/XXXX payment was due. Just prior to my request for an income based payment plan I went through bankruptcy ( in XX/XX/XXXX ) due to my divorce. After bankruptcy I continued to struggle financially as I tried to find employment, so I contacted Navient and was simply told to utilize forebearance. An income based plan was not given to me as an option and as a result, my most recent forbearance was placed on my credit report, right after bankruptcy, without any warning being provided to me that it would impact my credit. Had I known it would impact my credit I would've denied the forebearance option entirely. As of today, XX/XX/XXXX I called Navient again. I have a XX/XX/XXXX payment due of {$180.00} which I CAN NOT afford. Today I was informed by the operator I spoke with that she can not see why my application has NOT been processed, and also informed me that she can not see any reason why it would be denied. She then stated she is going to request to have my application expedited. I was told to contact Navient on XX/XX/XXXX, ONE DAY before my payment is due, in order to follow up on my application AGAIN. When I asked what would happen if this was not taken care of or approved before XX/XX/XXXX, I was told my account would be placed into " courtesy forebearance '' until my application could be reviewed. I immediately stated I did NOT want my loans placed into forebearance again, at which time I was informed this forebearance is DIFFERENT from regular forebearance. And that it will not be placed on my credit report. Once again, I am being told my application is under review. I have contacted Navient repeatedly since the fall of XXXX, in good faith, in an attempt to take care of my student loan debt. Each time my requests have been ignored, I've been given inaccurate information, or NOT provided with information or follow up regarding my complaints that would've helped me take care of my debt in a timely fashion. I am especially angry that I was told to choose forebearance rather than given ANY OTHER options related to repayment. I trusted Navient. I truly believe Navient willfully withheld information from me related to other payment options when they suggested I use forbearance repeatedly. I do have emails related to suggestions of forbearance and welcome anyone to listen to the phone calls related to my account questions and issues.

Complaint: I was a recipient of a lawsuit against Navient for overcharging veterans interest, which was settled in 2015 with Navient being at fault. The settlement was given directly to Navient. I was in no way informed by Navient. The balance in the amount of approx {$35000.00} was not updated on my account and I was not notified by mail or email or telephone. I was not aware of the lawsuit until the IRS informed me that I owed back taxes in the amount of approx. {$11000.00}, which I am being charged penalties on in excess of my monthly payment. It was a difficult and confusing process to get the information from Navient customer service. They were finally able to locate the sum, but the records available still leave me confused.
