Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I begin paying back a {$22000.00} student loan in XX/XX/XXXX. I paid 75 months of {$140.00} ( total {$11000.00} ) ; 47 months at {$71.00} ( total {$3400.00} ) ; 24 months of {$100.00} ( total {$2500.00} ) ; and one payment of {$300.00} for a total of {$17000.00} to SallieMae/Navient. The interest is suppose to be 4.875 %. Over the past 13 years I have never missed any payments and pay on time monthly through direct debit. On this day XX/XX/XXXX, I still owe {$16000.00} on a {$22000.00} loan that I have paid {$17000.00}. Only {$6000.00} of the {$17000.00} that I have paid has gone to the principle and {$11000.00} has gone to the interest. How is this legal and ethical. I am XXXX years old and will go to my grave before this is ever paid off. I have looked at my current payment plan ( all I can afford ) and The payment will triple in XX/XX/XXXX and be paid off in XX/XX/XXXX with a grand total of {$35000.00} being paid back for a {$22000.00} loan.

Problem with customer service
Complaint: When trying to use Navient 's website and contact the organization or obtain forms they state are necessary for requests, one is returned to the sign in screen ( and is logged out ), and then when one signs in again, one is sent to the home screen. There is no evident way to actually send communication to Navient. When calling their number, I waited for 20 minutes -- -after being told the wait is two -- -and having never spoken to a representative, I was auto-switched to the post-call survey. I uploaded a letter from my educational institution using the function on Navient 's website to show that I am fully enrolled for the Spring semester. Upon receiving it, Navient notified me that they need proof that I am enrolled and have no such proof. The ironic thing is that what triggered this statement is the very upload I gave with the information. I have spent a day of my life trying to do a simple thing, request a loan deferment because I am enrolled in school after taking a semester off. Their website offers endless cycles and no help. If they are profiting off of my interest, the least they could do is provide an actual human being to speak to.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I paid off the remaining balance on my loan on XX/XX/2019 and cancelled my enrollment in autopayment ( which has been going on for years ). NAVIENT processes a payment on XX/XX/2019 for {$270.00} even though the loan balance was zero and the autopayment shows up in the website as stopped. They said it was already scheduled. They then said it would take 30-45 days to refund the over-payment. This is a scam. Everything is run by computers and I checked the balance on XX/XX/2019 and it showed zero and said the load was paid-off, also showed autopayment was cancelled. I then told the agent on the phone that they should pay me back interest at the 5.125 % that they charge me to hold my funds. Again this is a scam by a large company and the most complained about financial institution in the USA, probably the world. If they can withdraw funds from my bank in a single day, then there is not reason why they should not be able to retunr the funds in a single day.

Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: The school I attended and ultimately graduated from ( XXXX of XXXX XXXX ) was found to have been providing false employment stats to its prospective and current students. Ref : https : XXXX The regulation, also known as the borrower defense rule, relieves the borrower of the obligation to repay all or part of the loan and associated costs and fees. The regulation further provides : If the borrowers defense against repayment is successful, the Secretary notifies the borrower that the borrower is relieved of the obligation to repay all or part of the loan and associated costs and fees that the borrower would otherwise be obligated to pay. The Secretary affords the borrower such further relief as the Secretary determines is appropriate under the circumstances. Further relief may include, but is not limited to, the following : ( i ) Reimbursing the borrower for amounts paid toward the loan voluntarily or through enforced collection ; ( ii ) Determining that the borrower is not in default on the loan and is eligible to receive assistance under title IV of the Act. ( iii ) Updating reports to consumer reporting agencies to which the Secretary previously made adverse credit reports with regard to the borrowers Direct Loan. This private loan through Navient should fall under the same classification for loan forgiveness as the federal loan has already been reviewed. Upon approval I am also seeking compensation for funds previously paid to this institution and the damages associated to my credit and my co-signers credit corrected / repaired as job placement was not available to support the student loan financial demands..

Complaint: I contacted XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) to inquire about my student loan debt, but they could not prove the amount. I asked for paperwork and it took a long time for them to supply it. In addition, a large portion was fees that were owed was payable to their company. In addition, in XX/XX/XXXX they agreed to forgo wage garnishment until I validated the debt. I received a notice of cancellation of garnishment in XX/XX/XXXXbut a notice of wage garnishment in XX/XX/XXXX. This is not enough time to research a decades-long debt. Incorrect information on your report

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Information belongs to someone else
Complaint: I acquired a copy of my credit report on XX/XX/2018 from all three of the major credit bureaus and was shocked to see several student loans on my report. These loans do not belong to me. I sent a dispute letter to the three major credit bureaus in XX/XX/2018. Several of the accounts were removed but there are still several that remain. I sent a discovery letter to the company that is holding the accounts, Navient on XX/XX/2018 asking for a copy of any promissory note that I had signed that linked me to these debts. On XX/XX/2018 I received a reply in the mail and on the cover page is a statement that reads " We've enclosed a copy of the documents you recently requested ''. Behind the cover letter was a thick set loan papers ( signed applications, consolidation application and promissory notes ) > OTHER PERSON! A man whom I have never met, in a state I have never been to and to a school I have never attended. Set aside that Navient has reported someones else 's debt on my account, they sent me someone else 's name, address, social security number and other personal information. There is far too much identity theft in this world and to aid in that is just unacceptable.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Ive have tried calling Navient over the past year to work out a solution and I am only ever given the option to pay {$50.00} once and then back to the regular monthly payment which is over {$350.00}. I owe about {$29000.00} and my interest rate is extremely high, at 13.5 %. I have repeatedly asked to have a lower interest rate and monthly payment. Navient asks me the same question each time I call and give me no other options no matter how far my account goes past due. They refuse to offer any reasonable, long term solutions.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I was informed by Navient that my student loan was not eligible for reduced repayment options without refinancing. I refinanced and applied for a income driven repayment plan. I was informed that my account would remain in forbearance until XXXX so that the IDR plan could be processed. My first IDR request from XX/XX/XXXX was not processed by navient. I applied a second time. On XX/XX/XXXX i was informed that i was in repayment and had a payment due XX/XX/XXXX, 13 days later, with a repayment amount outside my ability to pay. i called again, and was told that my payment would be moved to XX/XX/XXXX and to reapply for an IDR plan. i reapplied, however, my payment forbearance request was not processed and i was stiill shown as past due for XX/XX/XXXX. ive just called Navent 3 times, and been disconnnected 2. According to Navient, the agent who took my call the last week of XXXX did not process any of my requests. Its very hard to resolve when the agents at Navient do not process requests. its very hard to resolve repayment issues when the information that agents provide is not reflected in the online activity.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I have been making payments to Navient in advance. I should be paid a year in advance. And my profile is set to apply payments to future payments rather than just to principle. Despite that request, every month I make a payment, the due date is not advanced. I have made countless phone calls to try to get this issue addressed -- and while they fix the particular payment about which I am calling ; the underlying issue has not been resolved. I have called close to a dozen times now. I have also tried emailing them. And still the payments are being misapplied. I am trying to pay in advance in case something horrible happens and I am unable to make a timely payment. It shouldn't take me an hour out of every month simply to make sure my payments are being applied in a fair way. Moreover, every time they make " an adjustment '' the numbers then look off. At one point, a representative told me that the interest I pay is the same regardless of how much principle I have paid -- or how far in advance I am paid. And though my payments are always more than the required amount, the payment schedule has never been adjusted to reflect an earlier final payment date. My payment amount is supposed to be {$380.00}. Every month, I have been paying {$400.00}. When I have asked for information in writing, nothing has been sent. So, unfortunately, I can not attached any correspondence as none has ever been provided.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Once graduating from XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, I notified Salle Mae/ Navient I graduated and was no longer in school. My loan XXXX XXXX student loans were dispersed on XX/XX/XXXX. When I received my first loan statement after leaving school, I called Sallie Mae / Navient to ask about my account discrepancies ( loan amounts and default ) in the loan amounts. I asked why the loans were so high and asked them to verify the loan amounts. I was told by the customer service person she was sure they were correct but if I wanted to lower the monthly payment amounts, I should consolidate my loans. It was done while I was talking to here on the phone. I received the paperwork on how consolidating would affect my account later by email and mail. Consolidating changed my loan from 10 years to 30 years lower my payment by approximately {$30.00} and exponentially increased my debt. When I received the consolidation paperwork with the new statement, I called again to complain about negative effect the consolidation had on my account and how I was not made aware of the consequences before the consolidation. I was told nothing could be done. But I could pay my XXXX University Student loans first. Then the other loans would only then be due. So, I continued to pay back my first student loans from XXXX University. One time ( likely XXXX ), I sent a check with an over amount and the repayment coupon. I wrote on the check what month I was paying the payment for and the amount, then the amount of the extra money with a note that that it was to be apply to the principle. The note was on the check and coupon. The excess money I sent was applied to the interest. When I checked my account Salle Mae/ Navient statement and realized my overpayment amount was applied to interest. I specifically stated on the coupon and the check the breakdown of the additional funds. Of course, I called to complain. I was told there was nothing they could do. I never sent a payment with additional funds again. When I completed paying my first set of student loans, I called Salle Mae /Navient again to make payment arrangement for the second set of student loans. I was not able to make the payments as they appeared in my new coupon book. They were too high. I believe the were on the $ 600- {$800.00} range and my take home pay was in the range of {$2000.00} - {$3000.00} a month. I specifically asked if I could get the payments lowered so I could make sure it was within my budget. I was told NO I had to pay the full monthly amount. I repeated asked if they would work with my budget even asking to speak to a manager. I was again refused. I was told partial payment would result in penalties and the whole amount needed to be paid. The penalties could be higher than the payment. However, they did have a solution. Financial Hardship deferment. All my loans were deferred. And deferred and deferred. I called every few months asking to have my account reviewed and asking for repayment arrangement lower than my set loan amount and was denied every time, then placed back on deferment. I started working with a financial counselor with the XXXX XXXX. I explained my loan situation when we were going over my monthly bills. He urged me to call again and insist Sallie Mae / Navient work out a payment arrangement that fit my budget. My credit counselor had given me a realistic budget. I called again spoke to Salle Mae/ Navient and again was turned down. Although I began to call less frequent this cycle continued for years, until XXXX. Around late XXXX, I started hearing about income-driven repayment programs and other repayment options because students were having such a hard time with student loan creditors. By this time, I lived in XXXX and my work had literally been washed out during the Tax Day Flood in XX/XX/XXXX That year I didnt receive a regular paycheck ( if at all ) for 8 months out of that year. In early XXXX, I went to the Navient website and signed up for the Income-Driven repayment program with the Dept of Education. When I enrolled, I was given a letter stating my payment amount for the year would be {$40.00}. The was partially due to limited income for the year previous year. After the first year the repayment amount would be re-evaluated based on my XXXX income. I signed all the paperwork and was finally grateful I was able to start paying on this account based on my income. I had been asking for this option since XXXX XXXX. When I logged into my account to pay my first month payment. A fee had been placed on my account totaling over $ 1000+ from Salle Mae / Navient. I was distraught. I didnt have {$1000.00}. I would have taken me over 2 years of {$40.00} payments just to pay the fee. I had no idea what it was for. It had not been on my account previously. I was again deceived. I was done. I had to pay that fee before my {$40.00} payment would be applied. I quit. I had literally spent years asking for repayment help on the phoneLiterally crying, angrily asking to speak to management. Crying asking a creditor to take the money I had, but leaving enough for me to eat XXXX drive, work, live somewhere, and save ( which I could do either ). My heart fell because I was so excited about this repayment program. After so many years, I had been forced into paying for the school crime and forced to eat a bogus default and repaying to my XXXX University loans to completion. I had been complained for years to Sallie Mae management, the Dept of ED, the Ombudsman Office, University Management for years to no avail. Even the Ombudsman Office told me to work it out with my Sallie Mae / Navient or XXXX University on the times I called to complain, leaving them free to act as they will. Within six months, I heard again about thousand of people who were having the same issues as I had been historically having with Sallie Mae turned Navient. I was humiliated because I was now started to understand the harm being done. To add insult to injury AGAIN my greatly inflated loan was sold by those crooks with over {$10000.00} in fee 2 days before a court judged against them in a motion to dismiss part of the case. I have been contacted by numerous companies all claiming to own the loan. I going to fight this.

Keep getting calls about your loan
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I received a call from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX on my personal cell phone from a person claiming to be with XXXX XXXX XXXX about a " personal business matter. '' This person would not inform me of what this was about until I provided personal information, which I did not provide. Later that morning I received a call on my work phone. I did not record the number, but it was the same organization on the line. Again, I could not verify that they have any legal claim to be reaching out to me, so I declined to answer any questions. About an hour later, my grandmother called to tell me that somebody had reached out to her about me. I suspect it was the same organization. Today, XX/XX/2019 I was informed that XXXX from the XXXX XXXX XXXX called someone at the firm I work for on this matter. The number they called from was XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have never received any mailed communication from this organization or any proof that they have any legal claim to be reaching out to me. I suspect this is in regards to student loan debt, however I already know who I pay student loan debt to. Further, if they are a legitimate debt service organization I would imagine they should be able to get up to date information from my school - my school knows where I live. The combination of their aggressive tactics and their inability to locate where I live to send me mail on the subject suggests to me that this is not a legitimate organization and I will not give any personal information to them until I am able to. I suspect I am being targeted as part of a scam.
