Overdraft charges
Complaint: I have been a devoted customer of NetSpend Corp card services since 2006. Throughout my years of being a loyal customer I have experienced overdraft charges to my account and from their advertising there should not be any overdraft charges. I have been charged for fees and other false overdraft fees. There were cards sent to me without my consent that I had not requested.
As a result I have experienced numerous charges accrued. My finances have been unsafe and left for vulnerability as a target for identify theft. I have been decieved for many years from the false advertisement and had not met their promised protection of monitoring my accounts resulting in loss of monetary assets. I have numerous times been delayed access to my funds that I have worked hard for. From being a loyal customer to not being provided the promised protection I feel NetSpend has lost my loyalty due to the lack of delivery and no proper way of informing their customers of changes.

Trouble closing card
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I purchased a XXXX pre-paid MC Debit Card from the Gift Card Rack at XXXX XXXX for {$300.00}. I had some Cash that I wanted to use for a purchase online and since I already had a XXXX Acct I thought this was a valid option. The only real information visible on the packaging was that it was not a gift card. I was aware of that, however I thought it would work like a reward debit card for which I have had several and found them easy an convenient to use. It was not until I tried to activate the card that I realized that something was not right. Initially I explained that I purchased the card for a one time transaction and that I assumed the card was active until the balance was used. The answer I received was 'yes you can do that ' Turns this card had an expiration date of XX/XX/XXXX. Then I went through a lengthy credit interview and realize that this was a not what I thought it was. Because I had already purchase the card I felt I had not other option so I activated the card. Next I went the use the card and was unsuccessful. I conducted the transaction on XXXX where I now have an active Debit & Credit card to make purchases. The purchase I was making was {$340.00}, I wanted to use the entire {$300.00} balance on the Debit and charge the remaining balance {$40.00} to my credit card. That transaction failed, when I call XXXX support that's when I found out that the XXXX Debit card was not actually XXXX and that they could not help me. I ended up applying the entire purchase on my credit card. So over the last month or so I have used up the balance on the debit card on smaller transactions and have keep track of the balance. On the last purchase attempt the transaction failed because I was overdrawn. When I called them I was told that I was over drawn and had a - {$2.00} balance and that include the $ XXXX monthly service fee. When I told them that this is not how I thought this would work and that I acquired this card for a onetime purchase they said they would cancel the account. I said yes and the agent said ' one minute ' when she can back she said she took care of it. Then I said now I would like to pay off the {$2.00} balance she said I could not because she had already cancelled the account. So I never did use the entire balance on the card ( {$1.00} remaining ) The next day I received new XXXX prepaid Debit card in the mail with my actual name on it and a new account number and a new expiration of XX/XX/XXXX. I did not ask for this card and I have not activated it.
Lastly I was not aware that this was a netspend acct. until I fill out the complaint. It was not mention in any of the documentation I have from them.

Can't use card to make purchases
Complaint: I bought a prepaid visa card netspend at XXXX. On XX/XX/2019 I put XXXX dollars on card to give to my daughter for school trip to wisconsin we were not able to activate card. I had to buy another prepaid card at XXXX XXXX the next day to send with her for her trip. Its now XX/XX/XXXX. We still can not use card. I tried to take it back to XXXX but they said we had to call company. I have made several phone calls to company. Been disconnected multiple times and placed on hold for about an hour each time when I finaly got through I Was told it would take a month to get this authorized.. They are asking for me to send copies of my ss card birth certificate dl. I paid for this card I have receipt to prove I paid for this card and I have purchase prepaid cards in it usally takes a half hour to get card activated I have never ever experienced this before. No where on card does it states will take a month to activate. So basically they stole XXXX dollars from me and i cant get it back. Im not a rich person and I could of used this to pay for my electric bill. I do.not need my money back a month from now and frankly there is no guarantee that if I do everything they ask me to that I will get it back I beleive they stole my money and are using every excuse they can not to give it back to me. I cant afford to wait a month I need to be able to access my money now. That is what I paid for. The. Card im having issue is is netspend visa. Thank you for your help in this matter

Complaint: Netspend has sent me cards before. I have no interest in ever doing business with them. Reviews are horrible and have many reports of losing people 's money.
My issue is they sent a card that needed only to be activated that I never requested. Now more then once. This company does nothing for a consumer.

Trouble closing card
Complaint: NetSpend has a product called Skylight One that allows people to sign up with an email address and get their paychecks deposited to a prepaid card of some sort.
This company, however, does not verify the email address when signing up, and someone else has used my personal email account. NetSpend refuses to correct this entry in their database, do I continue to get messages for this customer, which has revealed to me the person 's first name and last 4 digits of the prepaid card signed to them, which I consider to be a data privacy beach.
NetSpend support representatives tell me there's a " security reason '' ( their words ) that block them from correcting their system and removing my email address, which is now also a CAN-SPAM violation, do I'll be pursuing a complaint there as well.

Trouble closing card
Complaint: Deposited {$3000.00} via ACH from my XXXX XXXX XXXX to my netspend account, as well as other cash deposits. This took place XXXX of XXXX. After a few months of not using my account I called to close it. Netspend representatives agreed to close it and send me a check of my balance which was my initial ach deposit plus money from my other cash deposits. I was never sent a check and my card was cancelled, giving me no way to access my funds. Months of calling and I was finally able to reach a representative who would help me named XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX she reportedly arranged to have netspend ach transfer me back my initial {$3000.00} deposit. The money never reached my account and now netspend is saying the transfer was successfully completed. I have spoken to my bank XXXX XXXX about this and they have told me to take legal action as no incoming transfers to my bank took place. Netspend has taken over {$3000.00} of my money. I have given them 5 months to return my money and hours of calling with no success, the only other option is legal action now.

Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Complaint: We tried a week ago to activate this card and were told we had to send in a scanned copy of a Social Security card, driver 's license and proof of address. After three different pieces of mail were sent as proof of address ( including voter registration card ) they still would not activate the card. Also, the receipt for the gift card clearly indicates the value on the card is {$300.00} and the credit card company said there is only {$270.00} on it. Netspend is the name on the card and it says that it is issued by XXXX XXXX XXXX.

Complaint: On Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX I noticed a charge on my prepaid debit card for XXXX deducted from my prepaid debit card from a XXXX XXXX store. This store charged me for a phone i did not purchase and left with the merchant. I called NetSpend, who say that they credited the card. On Friday eve XX/XX/XXXX this unauthorized charge reappeared on my card, so On Saturday XX/XX/XXXX I called and explained again that this charge was not authorized, I sent them proof from my current carrier, showing that I did not authorize nor did I purchase this phone. The representative, blocked my card, without notice, and hung up on me. When I called back and requested to speak with a supervisor, three other representatives hung up on me, it took me three hours to reach a supervisor, who apologizes, and stated that the card should not have been blocked, and he rushed me another card. I got three cards that weren't active in the mail, and some snotty man in escalated billing reactivated the card they blocked that Saturday, leaving me open to this merchant. It has been over two weeks, they have not replaced my money, and are ignoring my emails regarding my dispute. They refuse to return the money withdrawn from my account or provide me a provisional credit.
