Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: **UDAAP ALERT** I've had the Chase United Mileage Plus Visa for a few years and this card has offered an annual mileage reward as well as other benefits and protections that have been eliminated or reduced without proper notification. My anniversary month is XX/XX/XXXX, so I just officially discovered that the annual reward and price and return protection are no longer provided and also they reduced trip cancellation and coverage. Everything on Chase 's site regarding the United MileagePlus Credit Card benefits sends us back to United. This seems unfair as the information was not provided in advance and there are significantly reduced changes in the rewards while the annual fee remains at {$95.00} annually. If the information was provided, it was not done so in a way that was clear to the average consumer.

Changes in terms from what was offered or advertised
Complaint: We were misled by the CHASE credit card 's 0 % APR cash offer that we did utilize twice in XX/XX/XXXX and in XX/XX/XXXX we paid it all back early, because of the scam about charging auto-matic purchase interest even when paying off all of our charges off every month, as usual. All 4 statements- XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX are attached, showing the history. Also attached is the XX/XX/XXXX letter to Chase regarding the mistake that they had made on our XX/XX/XXXX that appeared to cause a pitfall " every month '' as they again charged us purchase interest, ( on XX/XX/XXXX for {$37.00} and XX/XX/XXXX for {$22.00} ) even with ALL PURCHASES being paid off on or before the due date, as we always do. We'd like our {$60.00} for these amounts, returned immediately to our Chase card that ends in - XXXX. We never would have accepted their offer for only a 3 % transaction fee if Chase had disclosed that all of our re-occurring charges and other purchases, on this visa that ends in - XXXX. {$170.00} is the amount that we were charged on our XX/XX/XXXX statement for the {$5900.00} cash advance, we are not going to demand that CHASE return that, but they should. As anyone can see, we surely did not get to enjoy their offer for 0 % APR on the cash advance part of the statement for the year that they offered! We had to pay it off early to avoid that monthly " scam '' they run on the purchases! You'd have to pay off every purchase, while it's only a " pending authorization '' and before it posts to the statement to avoid being charged " purchase interest ''!

Add-on products and services
Complaint: My wife is an authorized user on my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. One of the benefits this card advertises when I opened this account, and that it has maintained, ( see attached file ) is 'Trip Delay Reimbursement '. Provided certain conditions are met ( an overnight or 6+ hr delay, a cap of {$500.00} in expenses ) the benefit states the card will cover reasonable hotel, transportation and food costs for flight or other common carrier delays. In XXXX, my wife went on vacation to XXXX, a trip that was paid for using the CSR card, on XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, her flight from XXXX to XXXX was delayed, due to a delayed copilot, causing her to be unable to make her connection in XXXX to XXXX. She was rebooked onto a flight for the following evening, and contacted Chase via phone to inquire as to benefits for her situation - and was informed by a representative that the Trip Delay Reimbursement would apply for hotel and other expenses for that evening and the day of the XXXX. She used the card to pay for a hotel stay, lunch and dinner, and transportation to/from the airport, for a total of {$360.00}. In my mind, this should be a straightforward and very typical use of this benefit. After we returned from the trip, we filed a claim for this benefit through the process set out by Chase, using a vendor name eClaims Line. eClaims Line has been incredibly difficult to work with, and the process has only moved forward when my wife or I contact them directly. After uploading several rounds of documentation, we have yet to receive the benefit, and our last conversation strongly suggested the claim will be rejected by incredibly restrictive interpretation of the legalese fine print of the benefit. I find this experience to have been highly unfair, deceptive and abusive on the part of Chase, in multiple ways : ( 1 ) Before spending any of this money, my wife called Chase to confirm the benefit, which a representative did, and Chase is now walking back that commitment. ( 2 ) Any reasonable interpretation of Chase 's summary of the benefit is that her expenses should have been covered. Chase 's website states that the benefit 'Provides reimbursement for expenses such as meals and lodging if your common carrier ( airline, bus, cruise ship, train ) travel is delayed more than 6 hours or requires an overnight stay '. The trip met the other listed criteria of being away from our city of residence, a trip less than a year, the only time we're claiming this benefit for this trip, etc. The only exclusion it makes is to not cover 'Any covered hazard delay that was made public or known to you prior to the departure for the covered trip. Prepaid expenses are not covered. ' The length of the delay at the XXXX airport was not communicated to my wife until after the initial take-off time had passed ; this was not a rescheduled flight. The expenses could not have been pre-paid as they had only occurred as a result of a unforeseen and unplanned delay. ( 3 ) Reading the fine print & legalese in the card 's Guide to Benefits, the following are explicitly covered : 'A Covered Hazard includes equipment failure, inclement weather, labor strikes, and hijacking or skyjacking. ' The following is explicitly not covered : 'You are not covered for any Covered Hazard delay that was made public or known to you prior to the departure for the Covered Trip. Also, prepaid expenses are not covered '. The airline has not provided us with a reason for the delay of the co-pilot, which could have been mechanical or weather related on their inbound flight, but nowhere is this type of delay excluded. More importantly, these terms are much more restrictive than those described in plain English on the website and are a clear 'bait & switch ' of advertising something of much higher than value than what's actually available to customers. We have shared extensive documentation with eClaims Line for receipts, flight information, etc. and are happy to furnish those again if would be helpful in resolving this complaint, or provide any additional information. A fair resolution to this issue would be the prompt payment of the {$360.00} claim via check or statement credit. More broadly, I encourage the CFPB to look further into the spurious nature of credit card benefits at Chase. These appear highly valuable to customers when opening a product, but attempts to use them, fully in good faith, involve incredibly hurdles and slim chances of success. Chase 's summary of the benefit, which is also an attached file : XXXX XXXX XXXX The Guide to Benefit is attached as a file to this complaint.

Problem using a debit or ATM card
Complaint: On XX/XX/19 someone used my debit card number to spend {$100.00} at XXXX 25min away from where I live. I immediately received a alert limit email notification which I set to be {$75.00}. I reported it to Chase immediately. They issued me the money immediately and told me they would investigate. A couple weeks later I notice that Chase took the money back out from my account. I called and they said they denied my fraud claim and stated I need to provide more evidence. I contacted my local sheriffs department and filed a police report so they can get ahold of video surveillance to prove it wasnt me. The police officer told me to contact Chase and to submit the case number and that they know what to do since they always deal with this stuff. I contact Chase again and now they are telling me to have the Sheriffs department fax the police report to them. I contact the sheriffs department and they stated they usually dont do that type of stuff. Chase is making extremely difficult for me to get my money back and for them to accept fraud claim. I thought I had fraud protection, but its not working for me. I dont feel safe with Chase having all money ( they are my primary checking account and its where all my direct deposits go to ). Luckily it was only {$100.00} but its not the amount of money that matters, its the principal. It will be weeks until I get my money back. Extremely unhappy with how Chase has handled this and how they are making so difficult for me to get my money back. I will be closing my account with them soon once this hopefully all delt with

Closing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Company closed your account
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I opened a checking and savings account at my local chase bank. The lady that assisted me Told me that there was a possibility I could get denied after she submitted my application. I was accepted when she submitted the application and deposited {$250.00} into my new checking account and {$50.00} into my savings account. I left the bank happy to have opened a new bank account. Today which is XX/XX/2019 I tried logging into my bank account and was denied. I called the number offered and was told that my account was being closed due to unspecified reasons. I spoke to multiple people trying to figure out why this happened and if it could be reversed and to no avail they said it was irreversible. My problem is that I was never made aware of the possibility of still getting denied after I was approved. I would have never deposited the amount i did had I known this was a possibility. Now my money is unavailable and to me which is a major inconvenience as I have bills to pay. This was a very unprofessional way for the company to handle this situation.

Complaint: I was approved for a Chase XXXX XXXX credit card with an {$8500.00} limit. The promotion was to spend {$4000.00} in the first three months to receive the advertised benefits. I received the card and spent approximately {$6000.00} in the first couple weeks. I was consistently transferred to the fraud department for most purchases. After two weeks my card account was closed without logical explanation. I did not even get to one statement cycle to make a payment on the account. I feel the company advertised falsely to get me to sign up for their card and advertised aggressive spending for the first three months to reach the benefits, and once I did what they asked, they closed my account.

Billing dispute for services
Complaint: Im submitting this complaint with CHASE because my credit score was negatively impacted due to CHASE reporting late payments against me. My credit report shows late payments were reported during the months of XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX. I was a loyal customer to CHASE ever since I received my Credit Card in XX/XX/XXXX and I always made my payments on time. I had the ability to pay my bill to CHASE for the months reported as late and I scheduled my payments to be withdrawn from my bank account on-time for those bills. CHASE either did not properly send a request for payment from my bank, or did and something prevented the money transfer to CHASE. I was never properly informed by CHASE about any impending or existing missed payments on my account for the months reported as late. I also never received any indication from my bank account of a returned item due to not having proper funds in my account to pay my bill to CHASE. I only found my original payments were not posted when I logged into my online CHASE account. I immediately paid my bill with my debit card and confirmed with my bank the following day to ensure the payments had successfully been transferred to CHASE. I'm only bringing this issue to the attention of others now because I did not know CHASE was reporting any of these payments as late to credit reporting agencies until I reviewed my credit report earlier this year. I have been negatively impacted when trying to apply for other forms of credit for almost 6 years due to late payments on my record caused by CHASE. Since these late payments are not the result of my wrongdoing, and due to the circumstances listed above, I respectfully request for CHASE to remove the late payments during the months of XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX. Please consider my track record of on-time payments as proof I take my financial obligations seriously. If you have any questions, or require further information from me, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Complaint: A flight to XXXX via XXXX XXXX that my wife and I were on was cancelled mid flight and returned to XXXX. We were put on another plane, took off and, again, returned. We were rebooked on a flight the next day thus incurring costs for transportation and meals. These costs were to be covered by the Chase Sapphire Preferred card which we had used to make and pay for the reservation. The costs, with receipts totaling {$380.00} were submitted. We were then asked to provide additional information, which we did to the best of our ability. They then asked for more information, some of which had already been submitted. We submitted further information. We were then asked again for further information and responded to the best of our ability. They declared they had not gotten sufficient information and I submitted a complaint like this XXXX to CFPB which became identified as XXXX which you closed because you felt that the provider had fulfilled its requirements and, apparently, that I had not. This is an incorrect summary. Chase continues to ask for the same information which we have, each time, provided in different forms, none of which has been acceptable to them. The facts are simple : a flight was canceled ( a matter of airline record ) ; we were rescheduled the next day and did fly that flight ; we encountered costs during the layover that are covered by the card and submitted receipts as requested. I ask that the CFPB reopen the question and pursue how this issue can be brought to mutual satisfaction. Thank you.

Account status incorrect
Complaint: I opened a XXXX Rewards Business card with Chase in XX/XX/2017. When I had to shut the business down a few months later, I asked them if they could convert the account to a personal account, but they told me they could not. However, when the business card was not paid because the business no longer existed, Chase put the debt on my personal credit report, severely damaging my score.

Overdrafts and overdraft fees
Complaint: In 2016, I was charged over {$1700.00} in overdraft charges after chase bank removed my access to mobile bank deposits. I have recorded conversations with bank employees, recorded with their consent, explicitly stating that the feature was removed due to low funding levels in my account, though no official guidelines were ever presented to me, despite multiple requests. My complaint is split into two parts : 1. ) Chase Bank utilized predatory tactics to remove mobile deposit from consumers who would most benefit from the feature. I was forced to incur heavy overdraft fees, many of which were returned when bank employees agreed that fees were caused exclusively due to the removal of that feature. After multiple instances when the bank agreed with my complaints and reversed fees, they continued agreeing but no longer had the capacity to reverse the charges. In one instance, when the city of XXXX was completely flooded and no street access existed to banks or atms, I was still charged a fee, even when I showed the ability to make a deposit as soon as the streets became accessible. Instances such as this occurred on numerous occasions, and each time employees told me that my feature had been removed due to a history of overdrafts, which was entirely created as a result of the removal, itself. This policy of removing the feature for customers with low or negative balances puts us into a purposeful loop of overdraft fees, which bank employees acknowledged as a known problem. 2. ) I asked on numerous occasions to be given written or formal guidelines about my rights, as a consumer to utilize the mobile deposit feature. While in my recordings bank employees give vastly different answers about the terms of use, none could provide me with clear written rules. Who qualifies for that feature? When will mine be turned on? Why was the feature removed as a result of overdraft fees? All indicated that the feature was removed due to low funds or overdrafts, but none could explain why removal came as a consequence of those facts. Several employees agreed that this was an unfair practice and indicated that numerous customers called in with similar complaints over time. The second portion of my complaint is thus about the bank 's lack of transparency about customer terms of use. My recorded conversations with employees are from XX/XX/16, XX/XX/16, XX/XX/2016, XX/XX/16, XX/XX/16, XX/XX/16, and XX/XX/16. In total, throughout that period I was assessed {$1700.00} in fees, though {$500.00} were refunded by employees who agreed that I had done all I could to avoid them.
