Closing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Funds not received from closed account
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I made a deposit into my chase bank personal checking account in the amount of {$20000.00} I waited the 10 business days it takes for a deposit of that size to clear and post to my account which it did no problem however as soon as the money posted to my available balance my account was locked and ultimately closed for whatever reason Im not sure ok fine not the problem its going into XXXX now and I still havent received my funds and after speaking with my personal banker I was informed that indeed a check had been made but theyre refusing to send it to me and I feel like theyre discriminated against me for my age or something Im not sure what the problem is because I also had a business account with them that was closed the same time with {$17000.00} in it and they didnt have any problems cashing me out the entire amount in the branch however I still havent received my {$20000.00} from my personal account even though I know a check has been made theyre essentially refusing to give it to me going on a month now without my money

Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Transaction was not authorized
Complaint: I'm a US citizen living in the XXXX for the last 5 years - I've been banking with Chase since long before my move & maintained a Chase savings & checking account until a few days ago. This complaint is twofold : XXXX - Chase is refusing to cover me on fraudulent/unauthorized transactions against my checking account, citing a T & C protecting me for only the first 60 days from the first fraudulent activity, & 2 - Chase subsequently closing my account ( due to the fraudulent activity ) & removing all information from my client login page ( significant balance, account documents, historical transaction information, etc ... ) without any formal notification or way of accessing this information. Complaint 1 - I've maintained my Chase account for the 1-2 small ongoing USD transactions I have per month but don't use it too often & don't tend to check the balance each month on account of the infrequent usage. On Friday, XX/XX/XXXX I logged in to check out whether a transfer had arrived & I noticed a significant number of fraudulent transactions from various XXXX accounts ( not mine ). I investigated & noticed the first of these transactions ( 2 deposits & 2 withdrawals less than {$2.00} - can't give you exact amounts because of Complaint 2 ) on XX/XX/XXXX. There were subsequent withdrawals of {$990.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, withdrawals of {$330.00}, {$110.00}, & {$22.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, withdrawals of {$330.00} & {$59.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, {$350.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, and another {$350.00} & XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. I contacted Chase to let them know & they asked me to indicate all fraudulent transactions, which I did. They then told me they would only protect & refund me the fraud for the first 60 days from the first transaction ( starting XX/XX/XXXX ). When I tried to question how this was possible I was told to consult the T & Cs of my initial account opening pack ( from many years ago ) then subsequently accused of being negligent when asked how they couldn't have noticed the activity given it was so different from my normal spending habits. I was told there was no way to 'quarantine ' my account from other withdrawals & after being passed around to about 15 different people on the phone ( & explaining my situation about 12 times ) I was finally informed that my account would be locked down & I would then need to come into a branch to collect my balance. Complaint 2 - In subsequent days ( estimated date XXXX XXXX ) I have received no official notice from Chase & when I log in my account & all historical statements are gone, leaving me with no information. I have no idea where my balance is, what happens to it, & no access to any historical transaction information, which I find wholly unacceptable.

Money was not available when promised

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: Domestic (US) money transfer

Complaint: My Company received a Domestic wire into our business account onXX/XX/XXXX. I went to the bank that day to do a internal transfer from one CHASE account to another CHASE account, both controlled by our company. The Location that I went to was XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, NJ XXXX The banker that Originally denied me was " XXXX. '' When asked why, he said that the reason was because even though the money was " available '' to me, before they could transfer the funds, it would need to move past " pending '' status in the account. In order to do that, the money needs to sit overnight. When I said that was unacceptable, he went to get his manager " XXXX '' XXXX told me that it was in fact CHASE POLICY that prevented him from moving the funds and that it was the same across all platforms of the bank. He said the reasoning for it was because a wire can be recalled and canceled within 24 hours. However he did inform me that if I went online, maybe I could transfer the funds. When I asked him how it would be possible for me to move the funds by myself if he couldn't do it, he had no response. When I asked if this was discretionary, He told me that the decision was final and it was the banks official policy and not his discretion. I have worked for this bank for ten years prior and i am very well aware of the policy. Chase, like all banks, have a fairly strict " Available funds '' policy. - Meaning if it's in your available funds, you have access to it. There are certain items that will always count towards " available funds '' ( Cash, Internal transfers and Wire Transfers, to name a few ). This manager lied to me and prevented me from conducting my business. He would not even check his own policy and placed artificial barriers ( " settle overnight '' ) to ensure his own safety. He had the audacity to say that it was a policy adopted by the entire bank, rather than his own decision. My concern is how many other people he has fed this same line to? How many other people had to wait for their own money because this man decided he was going to create an extra rule to prevent people from getting their own money? He could have lied for years and it took someone who actually knows what the policy is to stop this. So the concern is that not only did he cause me an extra hour 's worth of work ( finding another branch and talking to a more informed manager, who not only did the transaction, but also apologized for his ill informed colleague ) but his training on his staff, who will repeat the same falsehoods spouted by their manager.

Managing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed
Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I deposited a check into my chase bank acct via atm, in the ammount of XXXX and it printed out my receipt saying funds would be available by XX/XX/XXXX. The check was cleared by the bank on XX/XX/XXXX and on the morning of the XXXX I checked my banking app to see if the money was in my acct, it was. But when I went to use my debt card to pay bills n make purchases my card was declined, I called cutover service and was today that my acct had become restricted due to the the check not being verified and that my acct would be closed by the XXXX of XXXX if the check was not verified. I was told that I had 10 days from the date the check cleared, which was the XXXX to have the check verified. I was never contacted in any way to have been aware of any of this and was not given enough time to figure out what was meant to be done and to stop my acct from being closed. Long story short my acct was closed and I was sent a check on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of XXXX, the remaining balance in my checking acct not including the XXXX check that was deposited in my acct, I was told that in order for them to release the check amount to me I would have to go into a branch bank with the executor of the check and both bring in documents verifying that we are who we are. The executor of the check was out of state at the time and wouldnt be back til the end of XXXX and I was told that the money will be held until we come into the bank to be verified. So Ive been waiting over a month for this money, had my bank acct closed and have had no help in getting my money back. Why would chase bank clear the check on the XXXX and still ask for it to be verified in order for me to get my money?

Confusing or misleading advertising or marketing

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: Traveler's check or cashier's check

Complaint: On XX/XX/2013 I obtained a cashiers check using {$23000.00} from checking and {$160000.00} from savings. I was assured there was no expiration date. However I was never told about escheating. I realized I needed more funds in my checking so I returned to bank and had {$3000.00} put back in checking and was given another cashiers check for {$160000.00} on XXXX XXXX and was again assured there was no expiration date. Last week on XXXX XXXX I went back and told them I want this cashiers check put back in my savings acct. I was then offered a private clients account ( which at the time I did not know is not federally funded and based in Texas ) Banker had me type last 4 digits of my SSN in her computer or this private client account. She then left with my check several times and was given a number by another employee. Check was run through and she left again with my check. She then went back to her computer and said my check is unclaimed property in Ohio and told me to go home and see if my name came up.I could not find my name in Ohio or Ca where I live.I went back to bank and was told it is Texas. I later found out the clients acct is in Texas. I also got a case # by phone from Ohio and also the name she was e-mailing to the person in bank which was the same name I was in contact with. I was told another employee was waiting for the e-mail. I was told they would call me back. I never received any calls and my calls have not been returned.
