Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: Dear Sir or Ma'am, This is in regards to a Phishing scam conducted by Chase Sapphire Preferred team. On Friday, XX/XX/XXXX, I called Chase Sapphire Preferred customer service@XXXX. They refused to help address questions I had about a recent purchases, billing, reverse charges, etc - until I " authenticated myself ''. Pretty standard practices on the surface? However, the questions they are asking, are not personal to me ( mother 's maiden name, city you grew up in, etc ). Instead, they use their mobile app to access your phone contacts. Then their " qualifying questions '' become as follows : Chase : " Do you know anyone named 'XXXX XXXX? '' Me : " Yes, I know two XXXX 's, why do you ask. '' Chase : " Can you tell me her birth date please? '' Me : " No, I don't know it. '' ( I lied ).
Chase : " Do you know anyone named 'XXXX XXXX? '' Me : " Yes, of course, but I'm not giving PII ( Personal Identification Information ) to you for any of my friends or family. '' You should note that this rep was of XXXX descent. So they have people in foreign countries using our mobile app, to phish for PII on American citizens. This is how we end up having a major data breach with millions of consumers being affected and identities being stolen. While I was being passed to a 3rd person ( a supervisor ), to complain about their tactics, I also drove a block away to a Chase bank, I put their rep on speaker to allow the branch manager listen to what I was being told over the phone. He asked : Chase Manager : " Did you call us, or did we call you? '' Me : " I called you, to get assistance with my card. '' Chase Manager : " Then it's not phishing, because you called us ''.
Me : " Other people 's PII has nothing to do with authenticating 'ME '. If you're asking questions about other people, you are identifying THEM, not me. '' Chase Manager : " All companies do this ''.
Conclusion : When we add a contact into our phones, it often includes first|last name , street address, email address, etc. Now, Chase is allowing their offshore people to access that data, and then ask additional PII ( DOB ) that could allow them access to hijacking their identities. And, they refuse to help me until I give in. I had to speak to 3 people, then had to hang up and walk out of the bank, because I wouldn't give in. I still didn't get my questions answered.
Respectfully,

Charged too much interest
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I participated in a balance transfer promotion offered by my Chase credit card, in the amount of {$7300.00}. This balance was to be interest-free until XX/XX/XXXX, separate from any other purchase balances I incurred thereafter.
Over the course of the subsequent cycle, I separately had purchases and matching returns at XXXX and XXXX XXXX in substantial amounts. Specifically, in the XX/XX/XXXX statement, I had {$5300.00} in return credits from these merchants, that should have been matched up to net against prior posted charges from these merchants XXXX which would have been part of my current balance at that time ).
However, it appears that Chase has chosen to disregard the already posted charges from these merchants, because they were not yet included in a *closing-statement* balance, and regard the credits from these same merchants as " payments '', which when applied to the *prior* statement balance, was considered an excess payment and therefore a reduction of my promotional balance. When the now un-netted charge from these merchants was left without its corresponding credit on the closing statement, the result is a ballooning of my " purchase '' balance, subject to a 18.24 % rate, despite the fact that I made no or minimal net purchases ( I typically do not carry a balance, outside of the promotional balance ).
As of the current statement, the balances in these 2 categories have essentially reversed, I now have a purchase balance of {$7200.00}, and a promotional balance of just {$1300.00}, again, despite the fact that I did not make net purchases in anywhere near that magnitude in the cycle, nor did I make net payments of several XXXX dollars.
In a simple case, if Chase 's behavior is permitted to stand, if I have {$10000.00} in non-interest accruing promotional balance, but buy and and return an item for {$5000.00} *within* a given billing period, the merchant 's credit will immediately deduct from the promotional balance as an " over-payment '' based on the last closing statement balance, and by the next statement, I will have a promotional balance of {$5000.00} and a purchase balance ( accruing at 18 % ) of {$5000.00}. Essentially, a purchase and return need to occur in different billing cycles to *not* reduce a promotional balance.
I find this absurd, deceptive, and likely a purposeful attempt to circumvent the spirit of the Credit CARD Act of 2009. A purchase and matching credit from a merchant is not a " payment '', and separating them in this way to opaquely increase the bank 's fees, when clearly I intended to keep my promotional balance untouched ( I had taken out the promotional balance just 2 months prior with 10 months in the interest-free term remaining ), is outrageous and hopefully subject to sanction by the CFPB.
Many thanks for your time and attention.
Regards, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX Chase returned a check for {$750.00} that is automatically withdrawn from our check account every 14 days. We called Chase numerous times to find out why the check had been returned and Chase that they had no record of this and then sent a letter stated that we were late on our payments. Then also reported it to collections after telling us that we didnt owe anything. This again happened on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. This has been an on going issue since XX/XX/XXXX and we have not been able to resolve the problem.

Unable to open an account
Complaint: The Chase identify verification conundrum - Why I left Chase Closed all my chase accounts too much time wasted, and they cant verify my identify. I've been a customer for over 10years.
The problem : Chase dont have my cell phone number on file, and they wont accept it even if I give it to them for the OTP, so they cant verify me - so DUMB It all started when I decided to move my checking to Chase ...
Step 1 : Transfer funds from my existing checking - BLOCKED, pending identity verification Step 2 : Customer service Identify verification requested send OTP to Cellphone, and no matter which cell phone number I provide in the household they cant take it.
Step 3 : They ask me to go to branch, I did, they still BLOCK the transfer - ask for proof of funds by showing my bank account on my phone, I refused for privacy reasons ( ludicrous - they can ask for it ) Step 4 : I asked to close all my Accounts ( all credit cards ) Step 5 : They completely block me out - Lost access to online access : " We locked your account to protect it from suspicious activity. '' -- I still wonder what was suspicious about a long time customer when their own process cant verify me as a customer.
BTW : I tried one more time 3 weeks later -- for online access so that I can pay off my balance and move on. I went through the same steps 1 thru 5 above Chase is so DUMB - they cant verify identity of their own customer.
I sincerely hope they can fix this for others. I am now a loyal XXXX customer -- Same process piece of cake, 10 mins and I was done, which took over 20hrs with Chase and I still was unable to get it done.

Fee problem
Complaint: Ive sent some documents. But forgot to add some additional information the bank statement of the end of each year till XX/XX/2019 Please review and look amount Ive paid I frankly feel no financial institutions should be allowed this excessive amount to be taken from anyone. This is plain theft and taking Advantage of people like my self living pay check to pay check. Or day by day because each day is different and times unable to cover the amount and the fees end up costing me more then the money I am able work.
It accumulated and at times very hard to cover them when there no way of being able catch when the fees is the reason you keep getting set back. The more I work only to pay in fees

Complaint: On Thursday XX/XX/XXXX I purchased 2 tickets to an event from a 3rd party who was selling tickets. I used XXXX through my Chase bank account to make the transaction for {$980.00} to any XXXX XXXX who supplied me with a driver 's license and a XXXX account under his name. After one day of silence and no correspondence I came to the realization I was being scammed. After calling my bank and reporting the fraud. Chase customer service and fraud Dept. Did not even try to help me recoupy funds. To have a service available from a bank and not have any type of protection from such things is a big disappointment. Further more not even trying to help someone that has been a chase customer for over 10 yrs is what disappoints me the most. XXXX should not be an option for true banking customers if there isn't anyway to protect it's customers from predatory scams and fraudulent behavior. Truly disappointed in Chase and it's customer to help rectify this situation.
