Complaint: I reported the problem on my credit reports and at first they did send my credit report from XXXX but unfortunately now I found someone froze my credit reports after getting it not too long ago and the local authorities stated they do not handle identity theft that is a federal crime great lakes still refuses to comply but the federal trade commission sent me a letter stating yes I can collect damages from any creditor denying credit especially for using my credit report against me!! my complaint is about my report being frozen again and the vicious cycle they send me in

Complaint: I have 2 student loans with Great Lakes which are both on an Income Based Repayment Plan. I have made every payment on these loans and have not missed a payment since my payment plans began. I pay {$280.00} per month on these loans. On my large loan my balance in XX/XX/XXXX was {$56000.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX my balance is {$56000.00}. After making payments totaling {$3300.00} for a full year my balance has decreased by a total of {$80.00}!!! Offering this type of plan with such a high interest rate is a deceptive and unfair practice and should be a CRIME! My student loans have more than doubled due to interest alone since I graduated ( while making payments ) and practices like this by Great Lakes and/or the Federal Government are making it nearly impossible to payback student loans. These loans were originated by the federal government. The federal government should not be in business of profiting on student loans and should not allow businesses such as Great Lakes to profit by offering such a lopsided payment plan. These loans should be able to be paid back with minimal interest at 1-2 %. Charging 6.8 % interest on this loan is just flat out wrong!

Complaint: Great Lakes Educational Loan Services turned my loan over to the U.S. Department of Education due to default. I am now attending XXXX XXXX University. After contacting Great Lakes to inform them that I did not receive any correspondence from them to advise me of the status of the loan, they indicated an email was sent on XX/XX/XXXX. After searching my inbox and spam, I received nothing from them. They said they sent a letter back in XXXX. Their lack of communication regarding a loan going into default is absurd. If they would have done so, I would have requested a deferment ( as I did with another student loan thru XXXX ). My request is that this loan be deferred.

Complaint: Great Lakes put my account into a repayment status despite the fact that I have a pending borrower defense claim ( XX/XX/2016 ) and in violation of FSA policies. When I contacted Great Lakes about this they gave me false and misleading information telling me that I had to enter a repayment plan of some kind. And that was my only choice and my best interest. This is not the case. Because I have a pending borrower defense application I should not have been made to make payments on a fraudulent student loan that is under dispute. I paid for months under the plan they forced me into when my account was supposed to be on hold and protected through Defense to Repayment case. The last call was with XXXX at Great Lakes employee ID XXXX.

Complaint: Loan Open Date : XX/XX/2009 Loan Amount : {$8300.00} As a recent XXXX XXXX XXXX, I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to go to XXXX XXXX for information about the programs they offered. Their commercials drew me in because they mentioned they had a high rate of obtaining employment after graduation. Their sales/recruiters were super friendly and pushy. I only went for information ; however, they did not let me leave until I signed up for one of their programs. I was young and nave. I was also at a point where I wasnt sure what I wanted to do with my life, and I felt that they were leading me in the right direction. I told them I was interested in Technology or Computer Science a nd they advised me to pursue a degree in Computer Drafting and Design. At first, I told them I didnt know anything about that program, and I wasnt comfortable about pursuing a career in that field. They assured me it was similar to what I wanted to do. I took their word for it and enrolled in that program. I attended for about a year and the program was not what I was told it would be. I met with a counselor and she changed me to another program, however, I enrolled halfway through the course and could not catch up. I didnt want to quit especially after taking out an {$8000.00} loan but I had no choice. I felt that I was set up for failure. As a result, I went into a deep XXXX and contemplated XXXX. Its not fair that 10 years later, I am still paying for something that I felt forced into and for a school that is obsolete and has no credibility. I cant say I am shocked to see that school close down because their sales tactics were misleading and deceptive. They also tricked many people into taking out high-cost loans without understanding the terms and conditions for paying them back.
