Complaint: I was part of the Equifax credit information hack. I find it unacceptable that I have to pay to freeze my credit when I did n't consent to my information being stored by Equifax, XXXX, or XXXX in the first place. Congress should make credit freezes and unfreezes free federally. Credit reporting agencies already make money off of my information, and I should not be required to pay them additional money to protect my information, especially when they are doing a poor job in the first place.

Complaint: Equifax gets hacked, I try to freeze my credit and all I get from Equifax is a run around!! Ca n't talk to a person ( like I could with XXXX & XXXX, WHO DID NOT CREATE THIS PROBLEM ). Answer all the questions on their automated message and then get put on hold and hung up on. Try to do it via internet and I get " unable to complete your request ''. Equifax should be put out of business!

Complaint: I attempted to instate a credit freeze with Equifax, XXXX, and XXXX. All attempts failed beginning at XXXX XXXX. It looks like I will have to either call in the middle of the night, or do this by mail.
Why do I have to pay {$10.00} to anyone to freeze my credit, when it was the negligence of the companies as well as lax data security policies that put XXXX XXXX citizens at risk of identity theft?
The fact that it is n't easier to secure my identity in this situation is frustrating and infuriating. This process should be almost automatic, not reactionary.
I want companies like Equifax, XXXX, and XXXX to have to ASK my permission to use my identity information.

Complaint: When recently discovering that my personal information was compromised during the Equifax hack, I was trying to freeze my credit score to prevent any attacks on my personal credit rating. Equifax has offered a fee waiver on freezing my account as of this time, but other unions such as XXXX XXXX are charging to put this freeze into place. And I assume all three companies are going to charge anytime I will need to unfreeze to apply for any type of loan or credit. I find this unacceptable that these institutions are profiting off if consumers trying to protect the only thing that will let them buy a home, or a car, or even get a student loan. Currently, XXXX XXXX is even hiding credit freeze information on their website in favor of advertising their own for profit credit monitoring services. So not only are hackers benefiting from getting my personal info, but the people in charge of it, whose negligence put me and millions of other US citizens at risk are profiting.

Complaint: Equifax mishandled my information which has led to a breach that puts myself and millions of others at potential risk. I am extremely disappointed with how equifax has handled reporting this breach. Very little was done to notify the public for nearly a month after the breach was detected. I received no email, letter, or phone call and instead had to discover it via social media.

Complaint: Neither of the 3 Agencies websites, or phone options are available to the consumer for freezing a credit file.
A notification should be sent to all of the individuals compromised.
The entity that failed to protect the confidential information needs to be held responsible for damages, and in initiating the freeze with the other agencies.

Complaint: Today is XXXX XXXX, XXXX. Last week I checked online with Equifax to find out if my info was breached. The response was that it may have been ( a yes or no would have been helpful ). Today I attempted to place a credit freeze with Equifax, XXXX and XXXX by phone and online. They were unable to process my request.
Their industry created a potentially big problem for me but they are not allowing me to protect myself.

Complaint: Equifax, without my permission or consent, compiled personal financial information about me, and then recklessly managed this information they compiled. As a result of their inadequate security precautions, they allowed my personal information to be stolen. When I sough to place a security freeze through their website, I was advised it could not be completed.
When investigating receiving future alerts related to wrongful use of the information they failed to protect, I was advised that they would not provide that service beyond one year without compensation. Of course, they mismanaged the information and caused harm that will last beyond one year. The monitoring should last as long as necessary to assure no future harm - presumably lifetime monitoring.

Complaint: Equifax mishandled personal information about me and 134 Million other Americans. Now, in order to protect ourselves, we 're forced to pay these credit score firms to freeze our credit. This should not cost any money to us, the victims. They make money off of our information and when they risk our financial safety, we have to do all the work and pay them. This is absurd!
