Debt is not yours
Complaint: On XX/X/2017 at XXXX CST I received a call from XXXX by someone identifying themselves as " XXXX XXXX '' from " Diversified Consultants ''. He stated that I owed ~ {$450.00} for a delinquent XXXX XXXX bill. I immediately hung up, as I am on auto-pay with my XXXX account and checked while on the call that my balance was {$0.00}. I hung up to call XXXX to validate that they initiated the collection activity, which they denied and stated my account has never been in arrears.
I called XXXX back and talked to them again. While attempting to verify the account they gave an address that I have never lived at. Apparently they were calling all the " XXXX XXXX '' s in Minnesota trying to find the right one. Either this is fraudulent activity or a highly suspect methodology for attempting to collect a debt.
I would appreciate the company in question being warned against blanket calling like this. If I receive another call from them I will take legal action, as I 'm sure they are attempting to add someone else 's delinquent bill to my credit report.

Complaint: Since XXXX XXXX, I 've received XXXX phone calls from a debt collector named XXXX XXXX. Additionally, they are harassing my wife asking for me. They are looking for someone with the same name as me, but the address and social security number associated with the debt are different from mine. It is also for an XXXX XXXX XXXX service I 've never had, so it is clearly not my debt and I 've informed them of that. When I tell them this information they immediately hang up the phone, but then I get additional phone calls afterwards.

Indicated you were committing crime by not paying debt
Complaint: On XXXX XXXX I noticed a collection account had been placed on my from Diversified Consultants. This was the first time I 'd heard from them about this debt. That same day I sent a debt validation letter via email as they said this was how they communicate. On XXXX XXXX, I received a letter asking me to fill out a form for identification fraud claim I made through the credit bureaus which I never did. Also, on XXXX XXXX between XXXX and XXXX XXXX I called Diversified Consultant to discuss the papers sent to me about this fraud claim. A phone agent claimed I had no right to a debt validation letter from DCI, because it had been past the 30 day window of time from their first contact, after that they proceeded to make an attempt to collect on the debt from me by telling me I had only two options which was to pay the debt or make a claim that I have no intention of paying it. They also continued by claiming that I had received DCI 's initial letter though it was n't sent certified mail. I told them that I had not received the initial letter, the phone agent accused me of lying implying that I had received it, the phone agents implication was an attack on me in order to disgrace me.
They further continued by stating I had no rights to dispute this debt anymore because the original creditor told DCI it was valid, which I still have no proof of. They continued trying to collect on a debt by bullying me, despite the fact I still had not received debt validation, and demanding I remit payment or make a statement acknowledging the debt by refusing to pay it. When I kept insisting that I 'd like the information that I requested from my debt validation letter they hung up the phone in my face.
These actions by DCI are grossly negligent and against the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. A collection agency may not use any false, deceptive and misleading means in connection with the collection of any debt. Nor can they use implication that the consumer committed certain conduct in order to disgrace the consumer.

Debt is not yours
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I received a notification from my credit monitoring agency that there was a change to my credit report. When I pulled my report, I found a collection in the amount of {$1000.00} that I knew nothing about. I called the agency to find out what this was about. The woman I spoke to kept asking me what type of debt this was for, and of course I could n't help her because I had no clue. She took my name but it would n't pull up in the system but my phone number did. She then told me it was a XXXX home security system for an address I 've never lived at. It ended up belonging to my ex-husband for an services he procured a full year after our divorce. We were divorced on XX/XX/XXXX and I moved to Maryland on XX/XX/XXXX ( the court papers even state that my legal address is in Maryland ). His XXXX account was opened around XX/XX/XXXX. She said the name and address was his, but the social security number and phone number was linked to me and she could n't help me because even though I lived 500 miles away, it was my social security number so it had to be my debt and she ca n't guarantee it will be removed from my credit report. She tried to get me to make a good faith payment while I worked things out with my ex-husband but I refused because I am not in any way taking ownership of this debt because it is not mine.
I then called my ex-husband and he told me that the collection agency has been calling him directly to try to collect the debt. The last time they called him was in XX/XX/XXXX. If this was truly linked to my number, why have I never heard of this debt before? He called the agency himself to explain that I should n't be on there at all and that there was an error and it needed to be fixed and the debt should be tied to his social security number and not mine. The man she spoke to did n't want to hear anything about it or even try to investigate the situation. When my ex-husband mentioned he was going to talk to an attorney regarding possible fraudulent or deceptive practices to collect a debt by any means, the man said he could n't talk to him because it was n't his social security number linked to the account. Ironically, they had no problem talking to him to collect money or put it on his credit report as well..
He then called the Original Debtor to find out exactly how the original account was set up and he was not denying the account was his. They could n't print the document but they did verify that it was only his name, social security and signature on the contract and mine was nowhere to be found.
What have I done to try to resolve this? Since my ex-husband is an XXXX military XXXX, it started with a conference call between my ex-husband and the JAG officer on base. He said for me to start with disputing the collection on my credit reports, which I did online and by letter as well. He also said for me to write a certified letter with return receipt requested to the collection agency and request all of the documentation they purchased from the Original Debtor so I can validate the signatures and numbers on the original account since it is my legal right to do so. The letter I sent to the credit reporting agencies is the same letter I sent to the collection agency. I did name the names of the people we talked with. I want this dispute to be as transparent as possible. This is supposed to be and INDIVIDUAL account ( not joint or with a co-signer ) and yet the collection is on both of our credit reports. How did they get my social security number? Something is just not right.

Notification didn't disclose it was an attempt to collect a debt
Complaint: Company refused to send me a settlement offer letter prior to making payment - asked multiple times and they kept hanging up on me after trying to transfer me to a manager.
I asked for this to be removed from my credit report if paid in full due to the fact it is considered a utility bill and they refused and said that is not possible.
As an American male of the age of XXXX I am aware of my rights and they refused to comply by them.
After days of arguing with them I decided to pay the settlement in full - they barely verified any of my personal information which made me a little nervous about giving them my payment.
