Complaint: Continuation of CFPB complaint XXXX
Discover Card has now taken retaliation steps in regards to the complaint recently filed against them referenced above. After I filed the initial complaint, the company closed out my checking account which was in good standing. I am absolutely disgusted that the response to a consumer protection complaint is to further harass and take discriminatory action against the consumer.
I sincerely hope that the CFPB can rectify this practice.

Complaint: My mother had a Discover card, and she purchased the protection plan. She showed it to me when we were going through her records before she passed away. I helped her file a XXXX claim a few months before she died. My mother also told me that the protection plan had a death benefit : the balance would be covered if she died. After she passed I called Discover to inform them of her passing. They told me that she did not have this death benefit, even though they told my mom she did. I sent the death certificate in as requested and immediately received a letter stating the full balance was due immediately. My mom sold everything in the months prior to her death. She was battling XXXX and needed money for hospital expenses. I have consulted our estate attorney, but no progress yet.

Complaint: I went into a debt collection program in XXXX and had settled all my obligations by XXXX. I am trying to refinance my mortgage to gain a lower rate. On my recent credit report the bank noticed that I have a judgment issued on XXXX/XXXX/XXXX from my Discover card. On page XXXX of the credit report it states that there was a settlement. Payment was made and the account was closed. I need help removing the judgment from my credit report as it is no longer active. Thanks. XXXX XXXX

Complaint: Discover is applying payments in excess to the minimum payment primarily to the balance with the lowest APR instead of the one with the highest APR per the Cardmember Agreement. I would have chosen to apply the payments to other balances had I known that Discover was not going to abide by the agreement.

Complaint: In a attempt to clean up my debit with discover I agreed to a XXXX time payment for this monthly only of XXXX and XXXX a month starting next month the company took XXXX this month causing overdraft fees and causing me to have to pay XXXX per transactions that bounced. I never agreed to XXXX this month. To make matters worse they refuse to fix the problem and the number they gave me to call for any problems is not available during the hours the rep told they were open. I spoke with a manager at discover XXXX call center named XXXX and he refused to help or transfer to the general manager and told the problem would not be fixed for days. meanwhile my account is still racking up charges..

Complaint: I sent a payment for {$40.00} to Discover. They ran my check as {$740.00} on XXXX. I talked to them on XXXX and was told that it was an automated error. They pulled my check and said that it was clearly written for {$40.00} and they did not know why the automated system read it as {$740.00}. The amount caused my bank acct. to be overdrawn and I had no access to my money. I was told by Discover that it is an automated process and the system could not be over-ridden. And that their system would try to post my check a total of XXXX times before being kicked back. They were able to credit the money back to my bank on XXXX. I thought everything was taken care of, then Discover tried to post the check for the same amount again on XXXX. My bank acct. was again over drawn and I had no access to my money over the weekend. I called Discover again on XXXX and explained the issue again. I was told that my acct. would be credited again on Monday XXXX. It was not ; so I called again and was told that it would take up to 15 days to resolve the issue while they do an investigation. Meanwhile, I can not access any money in my bank account because of Discover 's error. I can not withdraw cash! I can not use my debit card to buy gas or groceries! I can not pay other bills because the checks will bounce since Discover has essentially locked up my bank acct. and I 'll end up paying either late fees or returned check fee. There is absolutely no excuse for this and their should be some way Discover could go in and manually override their system when they make an error such as this regardless if it is automated or not. At the time of this writing I still have no access to the money in my bank acct. because it is shown overdrawn because of Discover 's error and not rectifying the situation in a timely manner. And I have no idea when I will be able to access the money in my bank acct because of this.

Complaint: I have never had a credit card before and whenever I apply for a student card I am always denied. The company did not send me a letter or email regarding the reasons why I was denied a credit card. I have a fairly large amount of money in my savings account but the companies do not even ask for the amount that you currently have. They ask for the gross income amount. Most college students do not have a permanent job and are mostly seasonal employees. I do not see what the issue is with my current financial information given to them. I even contacted a credit report company to see if something is wrong with my credit score even though I 've never had a credit card.
