Credit card protection / Debt protection

Complaint: Hello, I have been a credit card member of Discover since XX/XX/XXXX. I just noticed that as far as I can go back ( about XX/XX/XXXX ) they have been charging me for a Payment Protection Fee which I never signed up for adding up to about {$2000.00}. I researched this matter and see there have been many complaints from customer who were also signed up for these fees without their consent and that the FDIC found Discover 's practices deceptive and there was a class action suit filed against Discover for this. I called Discover today with this complaint to cancel future charges and to request a full refund for the amounts charged without my consent. I was told they could only refund me about {$320.00} for the last 6 billing cycles. After requesting a Manager, he kept on with the same rule and added that they have recording of me opting in for this service and that they have done their " due diligence '' in making sure their customers know about this fee by putting it in the statement and sending communications by mail/email. I NEVER signed up for this service and when I requested to hear the recording of me agreeing to opt in to the Payment Protection plan, I was told they could n't share those recordings with their customers for " legal '' reasons. I 'm very disappointed and upset that a reputable institution would go about these tactics to seamlessly add small charges to customer credits cards which add up to their hard earned money over time.

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement

Complaint: I returned from XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, and in an attempt to get an apartment I learned about credit cards that had been opened in my name. I was a XXXX from XX/XX/XXXX until XX/XX/XXXX, and then returned in XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX to XXXX. According the credit reports I have managed to obtain, all accounts were opened and used while I was in XXXX. I filed a letter with each credit reporting agency and with the credit card companies. Several companies immediately resolved the issue and closed the accounts - XXXX have been removed from my credit report and I believe the remaining accounts will come off soon, as they said they would be. I received a response from Discover that they had no record of the account and then refused to continue any investigation ; additional letters to Discover, which included copies of credit reports indicating the fraudulent account, have only resulted in their sending me a package with all statements from the fraudulent account. I have attempted to contact Discover over the phone, but they will not address the issue because I can not verify any information on the account. I have also sent Discover and the credit bureaus the missionary service letter indicating the dates of service and a service completion certificate, indicating that I was in XXXX when the accounts were opened and used. The disputes came back from each CRA with no changes. Becoming XXXX as an adult and not able to use XXXX services ( or XXXX ), it is very difficult to communicate with the credit card companies myself. I send everything through letters or fax. There are a lot of errors on my account, including names, addresses, phone numbers, inquiries, and credit accounts. A credit counselor informed me that it is more effective to only dispute one or two items per letter, and to focus on the greatest errors first. The current letters are only addressing my name, current address, and remaining credit accounts.

Complaint: I saw some charges on my Discover credit card statement that I had never noticed previously ( I having been carrying a balance pretty much since I opened the card, but have n't actively used the card in a very long time since I wanted to pay it down ). Apparently they have been charging me monthly for something called Payment Protection Plan that I do not believe I ever signed up for. I called Discover to request they provide some kind of information on how exactly I signed up for this service and they refused to provide any additional information. The " best '' they could do is cancel the protection from my account and refund six months of charges that they were posting to my account. I looked this issue up online and apparently this has been a big deal for quite some time, and a lot of people have been getting charged without actually signing up for this service. I am quite unhappy that they are able to charge my account for something that I did not sign up for! They told me that I signed up for this " service '' back in 2011, so that is a lot of payments that I have been making without consenting to this program. I was guided to this site through this web page full of similar complaints : XXXX. It seems that the monthly payment averaged out around XXXX dollars, per month, for almost 5 years ( ~ {$960.00} dollars )! I know I should have paid more attention but I never noticed that single line item when I actually used the card, and have just been making payments on my balance ever since, not making new purchases.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: I was contacted by Discover student loans in XX/XX/XXXX and was told that my in school deferment had expired and that I needed to reapply and that it would take approximately 4 weeks approve and to call back. I contacted Discover again in XX/XX/XXXX and was told I received misinformation but that I may have additional deferment time and that they needed to look into things further. During this time I was speaking to Discover daily and receiving different information every time I spoke to them. I informed Discover that I could not make payments for the full amount of XXXX dollars because I am in school completing my XXXX degree and my family was preparing for a move across the country because of my husbands military status. Finally in XX/XX/XXXX an account manager informed me that if I made payments of XXXX on XXXX of the month that I can have a rolling delinquency and my account would not go into collections status. Discover contacted me this week and told me that my loan was 92 days past due and that they had reported my account to both my and my co-signers credit reports. When I spoke to an account representative he informed me that he saw where the account manager had given me the information in XX/XX/XXXX and that he could see that I had been making the payments on the XXXX of the month since but that the information I was given by the account manager was not true. He also informed me that had my account not been placed in collections status that my co-signer could have been removed from my loan but that " they do n't like to tell people that '' and now it was to late to do. He also told me that because they purchased the loan from XXXX that they can not do anything for me and that their hands are tied. That they are not honoring the terms that they honor for their own loans but instead are sticking with the originally terms.I have received misinformation from Discover at every turn and honored the agreement that I was told would keep my account from reaching default status in XX/XX/XXXX but I am continuously being lied to and now it has seriously affected my credit.

Unsolicited issuance of credit card

Credit card:

Complaint: In XXXX 2012 my son opened a credit card with Discover, it was a student card. The card had a {$1500.00} limit, that summer he went to Florida and proceeded to charge an additional {$700.00} over his limit ( Discover allowed him to do this ). I am not even sure they checked his employment to be sure he could afford to pay off that kind of debt. When it came time to make payments on the card I had to get involved to help assist him with this debt, I had called Discover on his behalf and they needed approval from him for me to speak on his behalf he said that was ok. Meanwhile Discover added me on to the account as an authorized user, the way I found this out was the other day I was checking my XXXX account and they said out of XXXX payment XXXX were on time the XXXX that were late were Discover card payments. I do not have a Discover card in my name, I reached out to XXXX and XXXX, XXXX said they would dispute it for me, I could not get a hold of XXXX XXXX. I am asking for assistance to have Discover remove me off of my son 's account that I never approved them to do and to remover the XXXX late payments off of my credit report. Thank you.

Frequent or repeated calls
Complaint: They are told to contact the primary contact, myself, and called my cosigner 8 times over a Saturday ; then when I spoke to them on XX/XX/XXXX they said I was off the call list until my payment processed. Since then they have called multiple times every day, and every time I answer they tell me the calls will stop, only to get another call 2 hours later. On top of this they include future payments in the total amount due at this time and have threatened my mom with statements such as " this will be on your credit report if you do n't pay {$1400.00} today '' when realistically we had 30+ days before it would be reported, and only had to make a payment of {$700.00} to get the delinquency reduced by 30 days. I called this week and they told me what was due as of today, but when I did the math that is what I owed through an XX/XX/XXXX due date.

Complaint: I ordered face cream from advertisement on XXXX. It said there was just a small shipping fee. On my phone, thats all I saw. If there was anything else it was n't viewable on the screen. When I got the packing list, it said nothing about the reoccurring payment. It had no name, address, phone number or email address to contact the company. I never received an email from these people for a confirmation or that I would be billed anything additional. They billed it through XXXX place when they shipped it, another when they charged me the XXXX, then when I disputed the charge, there was another name, then when I finally got a phone number for them - they gave another name and address. That sounds like a shell game. I have the info from Discover credit card, and the packing slip, and then when I contacted Discover, THEN I got an email cancelling the reoccurring billing!
