Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX Discover closed my credit card account " due to inactivity ''. This was my oldest credit account and has negatively impacted my credit score by over 100 points.
My credit card from Discover was opened in XX/XX/XXXX. My last payment on the card was XX/XX/XXXX. It was closed on XX/XX/XXXX without my consent.
Why all of a sudden did they close it after nearly 5 years of inactivity?
I did not receive notice that they were going to close my account. I have called them numerous times to try and have my account reopened and they are denying the request " due to their policy ''.
I can understand closing an account due to inactivity but I think there should be a way to reopen the account and start using it again. Especially since the credit score system calculates your " credit age '' only based on your accounts that are currently open.
I have seen online that other people have successfully had their accounts reopened by filing a CFPB complaint and am hoping to make some progress in recovering the last decade of my credit history.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Regardless of the fact that I received the attached Letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX from Discover Card, please see 3rd. paragraph stating that the rate reduction will be reflected on my next monthly statement, i.e. XX/XX/2018 I have received the monthly bill with the wrong monthly amount of {$97.00} which I can not pay. Upon contacting Discover card via telephone during the past week, and today, in several opportunities they have declined lowering the monthly payment. As you can see Discover is non compliant, as I understand once it is written they have to respect what they offer. Please look into this matter ASSAP as I do not have the amount they are forcing me to pay this month. You need to have Discover card to stand for what they have in writing it is against the law to lie in such a manner. Thanks for your prompt reply.
Respectfully, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Can't use card to make purchases
Complaint: I have a credit card ( ending in XXXX ) with Discover Bank.
There have been several issue with this card and Discover is handling this very poorly.
My credit line is {$3300.00}. A couple of weeks ago, I paid for some airlines tickets ( total $ 1,600.00+ ) through XXXX , so my balance was a little higher than that. That means I still had approximately {$1200.00} credit.
Due to some glitch ( es ), either on the XXXX or the Discover side, a duplicate charge for the same amount showed up on the credit card which effectively went over my credit limit. It stayed there, pending for approximately 1 week before Discover/XXXX removed it. Discover said it wasn't them, that it was the merchant although I still can't figure out why they'd let them attempt to charge me twice without texting me about either of the charges to approved or deny ( as they've done in the past ).
Finally, the duplicate charge was removed after about 7-8 days which means I still had approximately {$1200.00} in credit.
I had a couple of charges from other merchants that got rejected because of the XXXX charges. But now I hoped I could start paying bills. Well, not really. Because even though my credit should be the one mentioned above, Discover says I only have {$6.00} credit. There are no charges on my card and as you can seen, the billing activity only shows $ 1,700+ in charges. As of now, it looks like my card has been blocked due to these various issues for about 10 days.
I don't understand why Discover keeps doing this. It's not only bad math and that's alarming enough coming from a credit card company but it's an unfair, sneaky, misleading practice that is putting me in danger of incurring late charges from merchants that I can't pay because of this problem.
Why was I not protected from the duplicate charge from XXXX? Once that got removed, why is my credit only {$6.00} when it's supposed to be {$1200.00}? Why is Discover taking so long to update my account and why am I not being notified of potential issues with my credit line?
Again, this is not the first time this has happened. Even though Discover says I have credit for XXXX, I've seen that when I go over {$2000.00}, my credit gets blocked. When I ask questions, their explanations usually seem designed to shut me up or mislead me as to what's really happening with my credit.
I want my card unblocked and my account updated with my real credit line. If my credit line is really only {$2000.00}, then why is Discover making me think it's {$3300.00} and then doesn't let charges go through? And I would really like real time updates to my account history and more expediency resolving billing/transaction issues ( not 8, not 10 days to resolve seemingly simple issues ).
Thanks

Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize
Complaint: I have called discover and I have asked them to remove the inquiry on my credit report for all 3 credit reporting agencies. I asked Discover to provide the ip address that was used or the application that was mailed out to discover. They have not produced any documentation stating that this account is mine or the inquiry belongs to me. I asked the lady over the phone if this is common she stated yes. Instead she mails a letter stating that the inquiry is valid and I will not have the inquiry removed of all three credit bureaus. XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. I am know asking Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to enforce state or federal law and assist me in getting a copy of the phone call that took place before the letter was mailed out. I have a copy of the letter that was mailed out it should not be difficult for discover to produce the ip address or the copy of the application that they received in the mail. I am not sure how consumer financial protection bureau helps consumers get their money back but I will ask and I would appreciate if they explained to me how this procedure works. Please assist me. With my scores as low as they are it would not make sense for me to initiate a application. I for a fact know that it was not me. Discover is unwilling to assist.

Problem with personal statement of dispute
Complaint: There was a fraudulent credit card account opened in my name without my consent on XX/XX/2010. I dont know how it was opened, but Ill assume it probably was opened online. When I first noticed the credit card on my credit report in XX/XX/2010, I contacted both discover card and all three credit bureaus to file a dispute. I filled a police report with the XXXX Pa, Police department. I sent discover card and all three credit bureaus copies of the police report. I ask them all to remove that fraudulent account off my report immediately. I also ask discover card to provide me with proof as to how was the card opened without my consent/ signature. They never was able to provide me with that information. They did put in a dispute on my behalf and said the results was that it was my account anyway. The only credit bureau that removed it from my credit report was XXXX. Ive been disputing this with XXXX and XXXX ever since.. and its still on my report. Ive ask XXXX and XXXX to send me information on how did they determine that XXXX and XXXX proved that the account belongs to me. They never sent me that information, because they dont have it.

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: Back on XX/XX/XXXX I received a text alert on my phone from Discover credit card about a {$710.00} purchase that occurred at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in New York. Immediately, I knew there was something wrong because I was at XXXX and the last time I had used this card occurred three days earlier.
I contacted Discover about the fraudulent charge and I informed the representative that this was a purchase I did not authorize at all. Discover informed me I would not be held liable under any circumstances whatsoever.
Well, weeks passed by and I noticed that I kept getting more mail from Discover than I should have expected about more information needed on my part about a fraudulent charge. Well, I looked at my Discover statement online on XX/XX/XXXX and it turned out that I would be liable for the {$710.00} due to the card being used at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and that it was in the vicinity of my residence. When I inquired about this situation to the Discover representative, that person cocked an attitude and accused me of " avoiding his phone calls. '' I never was in XXXX 's on XX/XX/XXXX at the time of the purchase and I never had the card on that day. I had already disputed this transaction and I do not feel happy about this situation. What I thought was a one-off incident that should have been rectified in one day has been an ongoing struggle, and now Discover is refusing to re-investigate under any circumstances.
Please, I need help.

Can't use card to make purchases
Complaint: I have a Discover credit card that has a large credit line that has been active with them since XX/XX/XXXX. I pay all balances in full every month and have excellent credit. I travel often and spend large amounts frequently. On XX/XX/XXXX, I tried to check into my hotel in XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and pay {$800.00} for a 4 night stay and was told Discover declined my card in front of about 10 people standing in line. This is after I've already made an initial deposit for the room weeks earlier and after we've already made several other food purchases in the area. When I called Discover, I was hung up on, transferred about to 3 people who couldn't do anything except blame me for " not signing up for their fraud alerts '', which I have actually done in the past as well as signing up for the suspicious activity on my social security number with Discover. They also blamed me for not calling them to notify them " every time I travel ''! We travel ALL the time, and we've never had to call before. Now after 22 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars spent ( literally ), I have to call me credit card company to get permission to use the card every time I travel?? No one at Discover could explain why they didn't attempt to call me BEFORE embarrassing me with declining my card. They have my cell #, email, and texting contact numbers, but they couldn't notify me? I have to call them to spend {$800.00} because I'm out of town? We are out of town on a weekly basis and never had this problem. Discover card is making the practice of using my card after being a LOYAL customer of 22 years ridiculously impossible. They STILL couldn't sign me up for text alerts. They said " I had to do it myself online '' after spending over an hour on the phone. The " new security standards '' have caused me embarrassment and are not realistic for someone who routinely travels out of town. No one could explain or help in any way, and I had to " wait for a manager to call in 24 to 48 hours '', but they couldn't give me a name or contact number of the person who would call. Horrible experience and unrealistic burden for a customer that buys anything in a city they don't live in!

Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Complaint: My account is in a chargeoff status and I have NEVER been able to get any information Discover refused to send statements, refused to give online account access and Still to this day can't tell me where my payments went or how they were applied. I received a history breakdown finally but it does not balance if I add their columns for amount paid, amount applied to principal amount applied to interest it does not balance by several thousand dollars. I asked again for a better breakdown of payments since they are grouped in this sheet for two accounts. the rep said it was approved and being sent to me. I received a letter today and once again it says they can't provide the information because the loan is in a chargeoff status and that I should call once it is in repayment. It IS in repayment and has been in repayment since XX/XX/2014. They know it is being repaid but are still giving me the run around. Now upon further review of my account it appears the interest rate should have been a variable rate and it appears I have been charged a fixed rate of 7.5 % which is much higher than the agreement I had specific payment arrangements for each account and they applied them wherever they wanted even though Discover and XXXX stated in writing that the amounts would be applied to specific accounts. I strongly feel that Discover student loans and XXXX and associates have employed deceptive illegal tatics to get customers to pay more than they owe by complicating things so much that the information can't be deciphered. Now they can't even figure out what is due.

Can't use card to make purchases
Complaint: My Discovery Credit Card opened XX/XX/2017, My limit was {$3000.00}, currently it is {$2000.00}! Discovery Credit Card decreases my limit whenever it gets to 200-400 available credit!!! Yes! balance was high!! Due to moving into my New three story Town House in XX/XX/2017, my limit was close to max quickly!! I knew my Credit Utilization would increase and my Credit Score would decrease due to purchasing I needed to make with my new home. I gave myself 1 1/2 years to pay everything off! Spoke to rep and they said to make sure payments were made and to set up auto pay ( did that ) and I should be fine!! Payments are way over minimum!! Every time my Limit is decreased, my Credit Score goes down. Which affects my Credit Worthiness!!!
