Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Discover Student Loan policies are designed to maximize interest charged. You are forced to sign up for autopay or you will pay 0.25 % more. The autopay can take out anywhere for 1 to 3 days to take out payment. I pay average of around $ XXXX/month or more in interest, so you are looking at up an extra {$60.00} dollars interest per month.
In addition, the information in account balance, monthly statement and student loan history ( which can be requested after struggling with hours of arguing with customer service ).
Any time you make any changes to your account, discover re-calculates your interest and increases it.
There needs to be transparency and illegal practices need to be stopped. I would like beg to lawmakers or anyone who can help to please -please -please don't torture the payer. I am already paying so much interest and making on-time payments plus taxes. Can anyone help. I have paid more than originally borrowed amount. I am not asking for forgiveness, I am asking for transparency. I need to know where my hard earned dollars are going??????

Problem with customer service
Complaint: I bank with Discover Card. On XX/XX/XXXX I submitted 1 extra payment resulting in 2 payments of {$400.00} instead of my one usual payment of {$400.00} I make to them. This resulted in imense Financial strain, since I only wanted to pay them once. I contacted the company on XX/XX/XXXX requesting a refund of one of my payments of {$400.00}. I was told I have 7 to 9 business days before the money would return to me. It's now been over 14 business days with no transfer back from the company. I have spent Collective hours on the phone with them and even their Supervisor was not able to insure an answer over the phone and had to hang up with me at that time. this case has been escalated and I've repeatedly attempted to find out where exactly the money is coming back from but no one has given me an answer. it's caused a ton of financial strain and is put me further in debt now because of this. this is not been handled professionally and my money is still missing. Please help any way you can I feel they are ignoring and neglecting my request.

Attempted to collect wrong amount
Complaint: I spoke with a Discover representative on XX/XX/2018 to notify them to cancel a payment arrangement of {$180.00} to be debited on XX/XX/18. I advised the representative I would not be able to make the payment and repeatedly stated i did not know when I could male the payment. I asked several time to confirm the payment arrangement had been cancelled. The representative finally confirmed the payment arrangement had been cancelled. The representative kept trying to persuade me to agree to a future payment arrangement, I declined, I ended the conversation without confirming and or agreeing to future payment arrangements. I then logged into the Discover mobile app and removed my bank account routing and account number to avoid any attempts at submitting a debit from my bank account.
On XX/XX/18 I received a text message from Discover thanking me for my payment of {$180.00} and I immediately called Discover Card to discuss the payment I had not committed to. I spoke with representative who state that a confirmed payment arrangement was noted to my Discover account. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to another representative. I explained the situation and requested the supervisor review the recorded conversation on XX/XX/18 to confirm I had not made a payment arrangerment but called in to cancel a payment arrangement. The supervisor stated she would review the recording and call me back within 24-48 hours. She then asked over and over again for payment arrangements and I refused stating I did not have any funds and understood it would be reported to the credit bureua. The representative asked why I have not been paying on my account and I replied I am a Hurricane Harvey victim and have been trying for the last year to keep up all bills and take care of my family but now it has become too much to handle. She badgered me for arrangements over and over again and I refused and ended the call. I then called my bank to advising the of the fraudulent debit and was told it had not posted on my account and would have to wait until it was posted to dispute the charge.
On XX/XX/18 the charge posted to my bank account and the item was returned for insufficient funds.
On XX/XX/18 I called Discover and spoke with a representative about the charge and explained I was returning a phone about a disputed payment arrangement and a return check fee of {$29.00} on my bank account. The representative stated the return check fee would be credited to my account and I requested a confirmation number to the adjsutment. The representative stated he did not have a confirmation number the returned check fee was credit. The representative asked why I have not been paying on my account and I replied I am a Hurricane Harvey victim and have been trying for the last year to keep up all bills and take care of myself and family but now it has become too much to handle. The representative asked for payment arrangements on the account and I refused. I repeated 3 times without interruption from the representative " I will not make payment arrangements on this account at XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/2018 ''. The representative asked me when did I get paid and I told him it was none of his business. He then stated I had to make payment arrangements on the account. My repley this time was I know you are following a script and I am not trying to be rude to you, I do not know when I can make a payment, I do not have any money in my bank account, and I know it will be reported to the credit bureau. I asked the representative again if the returned check fee was credited to my account and if the {$180.00} would be submitted again to my bank. The representative stated my account was credited and the {$180.00} would not be submitted again. The representative asked again and when did I get paid and I agin stated that was not his business. He insisted that I make a payment arrangement and again I declined and ended the call.
Later that day the {$180.00} was sent to my bank and returned for insufficient funds.

Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX sued me over an alleged unpaid balance. During the court process the case was disissed with prejuidice. Subsuqent to this I have filed a dispute with all 3 CRA regarding this. Discover continues to tell the CRAs that the debt is correct. I then called Discover directly on three different ocassions ad they continue to report this debt even though they know the case has been dismissed with prejuidice.

Problem during payment process
Complaint: In XX/XX/2017 I obtained a secured credit card with Discover. I put a {$500.00} deposit in place at that time. I had not used credit at all for over 15 years so essentially had no credit, as opposed to bad credit. I got the card to facilitate transactions like car rentals, etc. that require credit cards.
I was told that after " a few '' months I could get my deposit back. that has not occurred despite making timely payments for about 18 months and never carrying a balance. My credit scores on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX are between XXXX and XXXX with no late pays and no collections. I have since been offered unsecured credit up to {$15000.00} while I can't even get my {$500.00} deposit back from Discover.
Also, my payments are frequently held for several ( usually 10 ) days in spite of the fact that they have always cleared the bank and have always been early or at the latest on the due date. I keep being told this is for " security purposes '', but this is nonsense and just another way for them to make money on payments they already have in the bank. This is both unethical and illegal and it needs to stop. Discover employees have - including this past week when they put a payment on hold - have admitted it is a random process that has not real purpose.

Complaint: DISCOVER PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS -I TRIED SETTING UP A PAYMENT PLAN AFTER BEING DENIED A FOREBEARANCE. I INFORMED THEM I WAS HAVING A COMPLICATED XXXX. PHONE CALLS WERE MADE THREATENING MY CO XXXX AND JUST RECENTLY EMAILS WERE SENT TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE LOAN. HOW HER INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED IS A MYSTERY. Complaint: After going thru hardship due to identity theft and deceptive practices as reported to the Federal Trade Commission and my local police attached. I contacted Discover bank to pay my standing debt off as good faith. I've spoke to a representative regarding payment in return for deletion of negative rating on the 3 credit reporting bureaus. which was agree so on XX/XX/XXXX i paid full balance owed. however i undergone Double Enrichment because as stated by Discover Bank on my account I've made payment after charge off / collection settled. also discover has failed to report accurate balance i ask for verification of all bills, a physical signed agreement contract baring my signature and proof of my photo I.D . although in good faith to clear my name and credit reputation the bill has been in fact paid in full by me all I've asked Discover financial is to deleted this negative mark from my credit as agreed when payment was given. even after I've tried multiple time to write good will letter explaining my hardship due to identity theft yet nothing has been resolved. I was told by the Federal Trade Commission to submit proof to all potential affected creditors a copy as proof i was in fact a victim of Identity Theft and Deceptive practices. i think that its unfair that Discover Financial can hold a honest XXXX, XXXX Veteran, Father, citizen and Consumer back from achieving good credit rating to purchase a home for my family.

Complaint: I Received my credit report showing a inquiry from XXXX XXXX XXXX from XX/XX/18 showing I applied for a credit card. 3 years ago, I was a victim of identity theft where my ID AND SOCIAL SECURITY CARD were stolen. I did not apply for any credit cards and this Inquiry remark on my credit is causing many issues for me applying for a home which is affecting my score. Complaint: I had an excellent payment history with Discover card, and in XX/XX/XXXX they raised my limit from {$2500.00} to {$2800.00}. Just 3 weeks later they closed my account simply because a med-ical bill appeared in the collections category.on my credit report. They never gave me a chance to prove that this bill was paid. This ridiculous arbitrary decision by Discover card was totally uncalled for, and they have substantially damaged my credit in the process. I believe Discover card owes me substantial damages for their actions, and any credit card company that does business this way should be shut down.
