Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship
Complaint: Financial hardship started XX/XX/2019.
When it became clear I couldn't make the payments on my credit card, I called Capital One starting XX/XX/2019.
Since that time I have had to let my account go 60 days past due due to reduced income.
I have been trying consistently with Capital One to enter into a hardship program, and I continually get denied.
I was able to successfully enroll another Capital One card in a hardship program two weeks ago.
1. Capital One is not willing to offer assistance.
2. They operate under a false veil of help, with a payment option located on the website, leading a consumer to believe their is help available.
3. When you click the button and go through the process, you see this is not long-term help, but rather a 2-payment option to split the arrears to bring the account current.
4. The payment in that option would exceed my prior monthly payment by 3X the amount, creating a new monthly minimum 3x the amount I could pay prior.
5. I called Capital One, and was able to enroll my business card into a hardship program in XXXX, and at that time tried to enroll personal card on a separate phone call the same day.
6. My request to enroll my personal card was denied again.
7. After reaching the CFPB, I heard from an Executive Assistant as the Corporate Office named XXXX. She had someone from Capital One accounts call me.
8. On XX/XX/2019, I received a voice mail from XXXX, to return her call at XXXX. She stated she was a Senior Manager.
9. I called back and was not able to reach XXXX, and was told that any manager could help me.
10. I spoke to XXXX, Agent ID XXXX, who asked me questions to determine hardship program eligibility and again I was denied to enter into a program on my {$2700.00} balance.
11. XXXX offered me instead a settle for {$1900.00}, which would not only increase my monthly payments, and create more of a hardship, but would also cause job loss due to the effect of not honoring an obligation.
12. The precedence for offering assistance has already been established by Capital One, as I was offered assistance by the business team for a Hardship Program, but the are purposely and willingly excluding me access from a hardship program.
13. Capital One is intentionally keeping me from paying my bill.
14. By not entering me into a Hardship Program with my original requests, starting in XXXX, Capital One continues to exploit the situation through the accruing of late fees, penalties, and higher interest rates 15. By refusing to offer assistance, Capital One is knowingly exacerbating the situation.
16. I am requesting this matter to be investigated, and to seek the highest authorities at Capital One to investigate as to why I am not able to get into a Hardship Program.
17. Why was I able to get into a hardship program 10 days ago with another Capital One Card, with identical situation?
18. I am seeking resolution of a 0 % 60-month payoff program at {$50.00} a month.

Other problem
Complaint: In XX/XX/2018, I was a XXXX-old XXXX student with barely any credit history and an income of {$25000.00} per year, most of which came from student loans. That month, I applied for a credit card at Capital One to build a stronger credit score.
To my surprise, I was approved for a credit line of {$10000.00} at a XXXX. At the time, I thought that I would be responsible and would not use the entire credit line, so I accepted the card agreement, not truly knowing what it meant.
Within the first month that I had the card, I had already spent {$830.00}. As time went on, I used more and more of my credit until I had none left. Today, I owe {$10000.00} to Capital One with interest. My current minimum payment is {$1100.00}. I only have a spendable income of {$100.00} a month. My credit score is now at XXXX. Before opening this card my credit was very good.
When I opened the card, I had every intention of paying every cent of the money that I owed. I continued to feel that way until a few months ago when I could not make a payment because I could not afford it. Now, I am XXXX payments behind because they keep getting bigger and I still can not afford to pay.
It is a predatory lending habit to extend a credit line worth almost half their income to young people with little credit history. When I applied for this credit card, Capital One knew my age, my income, my occupation, and my credit history. They knew that it was risky to give me any credit line, let alone such a large one. They attached such a high-interest rate because I was a risky lender.
If it were not for Capital One 's predatory lending habits, my credit would not be ruined for years to come just when I am trying to begin my life. I can't make payments on this card so my credit will only get worse.

Complaint: Capital 1 bank had an offer " Deposit {$50000.00} or more to a new Capital 1 365 money market account and maintain at least {$50000.00} daily balance for 90 days to get {$500.00} bonus '' last summer. I opened an account online on XX/XX/19 and transferred {$50000.00} from my external bank to Capital 1 bank on XX/XX/19. I kept my daily balance above {$50000.00} until XX/XX/19. On XX/XX/19, I transferred some money out. I thought I already passed 90 day requirement. In XX/XX/XXXX., I contacted Capital 1 to check the bonus status. Surprisingly I was told that I was 1 day short of requirement. Based on their explanation, I have to deposit within 10 days of account opening. Then I have to maintain a daily balance of {$50000.00} or more for 90 days following the initial funding period, which is 10 days. So even I have kept my daily balance above {$50000.00} longer than 90 days, I am not qualified for {$500.00} bonus. I went back to read the fine print carefully for this promotion. It states that " Deposit {$50000.00} or more of new money from an external bank within the first 10 days of account opening. You will earn the {$500.00} bonus once youve maintained a daily balance of {$50000.00} or more for the first 90 days following the Initial Funding Period ''. It did not clearly and specifically pointed out that the initial funding period is TEN days, regardless when you funded account after opening it. I thought funding period referred to the time between opening account and funding account, as long as it is no more than 10 days. If I funded my new account on the 10th day of account opening and kept the daily minimum balance requirement for 90 days, I would have qualified for the bonus. In my case, I funded my new account on the 3rd day of account opening and kept the daily minimum balance requirement for 97 days, I am not qualified for bonus. The fine print words are very ambiguous and confusing. If it made it clear at the first place, I would have kept {$50000.00} for longer time. I hope Capital 1 Bank can reconsider my case and issue the bonus that I deserve. Thank you very much for your help!

Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Complaint: Capital one told me I was being recorded for security purposes on the phone call, so I felt they were being honest with me. I called to let them know I can not pay them more than XXXX XXXX dollars a month on my bill and I was told by the young lady on the phone they have a great program that will allow me to pay off my card without the interest still accumulating more. I said ok sing me up. She began to tell about it and how they will freeze the account but I can not miss a payment. I said ok let 's do it. At no time during this phone call was I ever told they would take anything from me for accepting this program. A month later I go to use the mile points in which I have earned over the years of using the card for a flight for my wife and it would not work. I called and they said, we took those points when you signed up for this program. There is no way on GODS green Earth would I EVER forfeit XXXX XXXX points just to freeze any type of interest for a credit card. If I was given this information during the sign up I would have told them NO!! Then to add salt to my wound they told me they sent me a letter saying they took the miles points from me. That's a lie and I will take a polygraph to prove it. They should not be allowed to do this to anyone ever. They did not give me all the perennate information needed to make a sound decision. They should not be allowed to take points already earned from the past bills being paid off and then take them without permission and without cause for their mistake of not making a customer fully aware of their intent, policy and or rules for signing up for any type of program through their company. Plus they should be required to obtain a signature on every agreement that will make a change in one 's contract or any new deal being made for a new contract on a bill or credit card bill change and this is a life-changing decision.
