Trouble using your card

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Can't use card to make purchases
Complaint: I have a credit card from barclay which I used to purchase my XXXX XXXX. It was interest free for a year and I made all of my monthly payments. When the interest hit the card it was over {$300.00} which pushed my card over the limit. I have been making all of my monthly payments. None of my payments missed. I called this morning to get a new card because I realized my card had expired. I was informed my card was cancelled because it had a high balance and because of other accounts I have opennwith other creditors. Along with that I was also informed the card company checked my credit periodically reviewing accounts that had nothing to do with Barclay. .As I stated to the manager I was in the process of paying my account down today since I will be going on travel and will need to use the card. The was told I have to re-apply. I do not wish to reapply because it creates a hard credit inquiry. I wished for them to re-open my account. I was then told they can do as they wish with any of the customers they choose, that a letter was sent to me stating they were cancelling my account once the card expires ( a letter I never received ). In my defense I stated it seems unfair to cancel someone card because it has a high balance, with no missed payments. Once I stated this practice seem to be deceptive and an unfair debt collection practice the manager no longer wished to speak with me. I asked for a number to corporate and was informed I could not be provide with that information. I could be given a mailing address to send a letter.

Complaint: I went to see a financi al counselor i n XX/XX/XXXX who reviewe d my credit report with me. I became aware of a fraudulent collection ( that I have since gone to court to r emove ) a n d two fraudulen t credit cards, one from Barclay 's Bank an d one from XXXX XXXX XXXX . According to my credit repo rt Barclay 's was opened in XX/XX/XXXX and closed in XX/XX/XXXX with no reported payment history. XXXX XXXX was open ed XX/XX/XXXX and closed in XX/XX/XXXX and it looks like no payments were made according to my credit report. I have never had either of these cards and only became aware of them from looking at my credit reports. I have repeatedly called both banks to report the cards as fraud and they will not remove them. I also sent a dispute letter to the credit bureaus to remove these accounts and they left them on. I have filed a identity theft report with the fair trade commission that I will attach to this complaint. I have also visited my local police precint to report ID theft but the detective was not helpful. All the other accounts on my credit report have always been paid on time. I need th ese two cards remov ed since they are not mine and I would like to purchase a home soon and need my credit repaired.

Problem when making payments

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem during payment process
Complaint: Barclays Choice Privileges credit card company failed to timely credit my credit card payment. Barclays unlawfully held the payment over a weekend so Barclays could claim false and erroneous charges since I paid off my credit card in full each month. I timely paid, and Barclays timely received, {$220.00} on or before the due date, Friday, XXXX XXXX 2011. However, Barclays failed and refused to timely credit the payment. Instead, Barclays held the check over the weekend and did not credit it until Monday XXXX XXXX, 2011, after the weekend. Barclays then demanded {$35.00} as a false " late fee, '' and {$3.00} in false " interest. '' I immediately notified Barclays of the error and demanded it be corrected. When Barclays refused to respond and correct its mistake, I cancelled my account, terminating any contractual relationship between me and Barclays. Since that time, Barclays has attempted to charge me additional late fees and additional interest for my refusal to pay the original false and incorrect late fee and interest. SUCH LATE FEES ON LATE FEES AND INTEREST ON INTEREST IS NOW ALLEGED TO BE IN THE SUM OF HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. NOT A SINGLE PENNY IS FOR PRINCIPAL. These false claims are negatively effecting my family 's ability to obtain credit. Clearly this is unlawful.

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: Starting XXXX of XXXX, I decided to not use my XXXX Credit Card and start making payments in order to reduce my balance on my XXXX card. At the time that I started paying payments I decided to pay some amount over the minimum requirement. The amount of monthly payments I made was {$200.00} ( approximately {$45.00} over minimum amount at the time ) on the due date. Every time the payment is due and when XXXX received my payment they sent emails reminding the due date and then confirming receipt of my payments, in which, they never mentioned that my auto pay has fallen under minimum payment required or any mention of late payments due to such change in my account. Since the payments were done automatically from my checking account, I thought I am on track to reduce my balance on my card. My payments were due on the XXXX of each month. Apparently, because of XXXX of XXXX holidays in XXXX, XXXX had received my payment on the XXXX of the month and that triggered the increase in my payments without any notice from XXXX XXXX. They just accumulated the interest and late charges each and every month and charged me late payment fees and about XXXX % of interest on the total balance on my card. I did n't receive a courtesy call or a notification that my payments have fallen under minimum payment and charges are being accumulated in my account without any additional purchases and/or charges from my part. I have not used their card from early XXXX till today. I had to payoff some of my credit cards in order to qualify for a new home loan and that 's when I found out about the charges being accumulated in my account without any notice or courtesy calls. I followed up with the XXXX XXXX and after talking to the managers and representatives and explaining that if the payment is late for one week, I would receive numerous phone calls reminding me of such, however, there was no warning letters, emails or phone calls to remind me of such discrepancy. After following up with the XXXX cards and making many phone calls I could not resolve the issue with them. XXXX finally concluded that the charges are valid and they will not issue any credit toward late charges and/or interest charged on such late charges. In my opinion, these are fraudulent charges with no merit. A credit card with no activities for almost a year and a half should NOT have a higher balance than when I started making $ XXXX monthly payments. They only act to their own benefit without any consideration or regards for their card holders.

Problem with balance transfer
Complaint: I recently opened a Barclaycard because of its zero percent balance transfer rate. Barclay attempted - succeeded - in a balance transfer for twice the amount I actually owed on my XXXX XXXX card. In addition, while Barclay shows the balance now on that card there is still the original balance on the XXXX XXXX card. So now I have gone from a $ XXXX debt to $ XXXX debt simply by attempting a balance transfer. Both banks claim the other bank has to resolve the issue. XXXX XXXX says there is no payment from Barclay but Barclay shows the two erroneous balance transfers. I have tried getting help from both companies to no avail. Both say " wait and see it if it fixes itself. ''

Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Complaint: Re : Barclays Aadvantgae Aviator Credit Card Promotion : In early XXXX, 2016 I received a promotional offer via USPS mail ( Offer XXXX ) which required, registration via web or phone and the making of {$2500.00} of net charges each month for six months commencing XX/16. I have the original promotional mailing where I placed a " check '' next to the registration requirement indicating my registration. I subsequently made the required charges for each month commencing in XXXX and ending in XXXX. I was to have received, in addition to the normal perks, XXXX XXXX XXXX miles 6-8 weeks after the promotion ended in XXXX. When the XXXX bonus miles were not paid out, I called Barclays ( more than once ). In my most recent conversation ( XXXX ) I was given a totally different story. The story now was that I their system did not recognize my initial registration and that there would be no pay-out, despite their admission that the offer was, in fact extended and the fact that I met the spending requirements. Barclays has created no registration confirmation process, so I can not produce an email, a text, or a webpage confirm to refute their contention. As a side note, my wife also has the same card, received the same offer, registered as I did, made the required level of purchases and similarly did not receive the bonus miles either.

Complaint: Barclay originally offered it 's Gold card to XXXX XXXX service members with 0 % APR and waived the {$990.00} annual fee as long as the members were XXXX XXXX XXXX. As of XX/XX/XXXX, slightly less than a year after signing up for the card, I received a letter stating that company policy was changing for service members and that the annual fee would no longer be waived. I was informed that on my next annual cycle I would be charged the annual fee unless the card was canceled prior to that date. While I understand that changing their policy is within their rights, I believe that this was predatory lending/marketing against service members, they advertised one policy and then changed that policy after they got the card member to sign up. In XX/XX/XXXX I received a second letter stating that if I closed the card I would not be forced to pay the balance immediately but could pay over time until the balance was paid off. While this lessens the blow if I close the card I 'm still left with the damage to my credit score that would be caused by opening a new account for less than a year that I would not have opened under the current company policy and carrying a balance with no line of credit.

Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Complaint: I have a XXXX Credit Card through Barclaycard. The card expired in X/17. When I received the new card in XXXX, I did not activate it ( as I was not planning to use it ). They sent an email on X/XX/17 that a payment is due and payment was due X/XX/17 ( I thought the time when a statement is sent and payment is due is more than 10 days, am I wrong? ) Since I had not charged anything on that card for years, I just deleted it. Then today I get a notice that the payment is past due. I looked online since they did not mail me a statement and there was a charge on XXXX for XXXX in the amount of {$11.00} -- followed by another charge of {$11.00} on XXXX for XXXX. Then they charged me {$24.00} for late payment fee on XXXX and interest charge of {$.00} on XXXX. Then to add insult to injury, there was a charge of {$9.00} dated X/XX/17 from XXXX XXXX. None of those charges are mine. ( I have never had XXXX -- do n't know how to use it and sure do n't know what XXXX XXXX is ). I called the company today and complained and asked that they close my account. But I am afraid that they will post that I am past due on payment ( even though they were not my charges ). But my question is ( and complaint ) - How can a charge be posted to an account that was not activated? I think there is an employee in the institution that is looking for accounts that have not had activity for a long time and then selling that number to???. Also somebody in the inside had to activate the card to make the charges go through the system. Please check this out and let me know.
